My elder brother traveled out without telling us his siblings, he told only my mother.
He left his property including his car,though, he still had his rent running. When his rent was about expiring, he called us to take whatever we wanted because his friend wants to stay in the apartment.

I knew my mother told him not to tell us.

Even the last time he came back, we chatted in our family whatsapp in the night, and the next morning we saw him.

My mum slogan is "everybody is a suspect"

They should be allowed to be kids, to explore stuffs, to be naughty, to decide basic things like "going out with you or not", to take control of their lives early, of course under guidance, oral correction, mild persuation, moderate freedom etc.

Explain to then that fear in kids limit the development of their curiosity, which is a key aspect to scientific advance and of course problems solving. He should allow them make mistakes, break stuffs, try to fix it with them, learn alongside, discard if it's irredeemable, buy another set in that cycle. That's why they are kids.

One just need to be very careful.
My husband went to his mechanic workshop with my first son to service the car. When he was done, he entered inside thinking my boy was at the back seat. As he was about to reverse, he turned back and didn't see him, he came out and saw him outside trying to open the door. My boy wasn't up to 2 years then,

Another day, on our way home, we stopped opposite a small market so I could get okra, my husband was carried away by his phone, my first son opened the door, my baby came out and was crawling to the main road, it was people at the bus stop that alerted him.
I just can't imagine what I would have done to him that day if anything had happened to my baby.

When he comes from work, I lock my door with key before going to open the gate for him whether the kids are awake or not. I started locking the door since the day my first son came out and stood gidigba in the middle of the driveway where the car was supposed to be parked while I had already told him the kids were sleeping.
