skull4eva: My timeline The journey started in 2020 when i applied for visa for myself and my family together after i got admission for a phd in mcgill. I didnt get funding so i looked for a sponsor who was not a close relative my visa was denied alongside that of my family on basis of funds no travel history and that what was the perosn standing to gain in sponsoring my education. Now i went back to the drawing board decided to reapply alone got some level of funding from my supervisor 18k cad per year then i also got a gift of deed from my parents to increase my financial capacity added the sponsor statement again paid my full tuition for winter 2021 january then reapplied again in december 2020. My visa was approved in my but i didnt travel till july ending. I applied for my spouse sowp while i was in nigeria on 22nd of July 2021 and then the wait started. Did upfront medicals for her but didnt do for the two kids becos they were both less than 3yrs as at then. I was scared for 3 major reasons 1. financially becos i only had 5k USD in dorm account, 2m in my naira account and 2.4m in my spouse naira account as well as my sponsorship letter for the application. 2. I applied from nigeria and most gurus adviced against that although immediately i enter canada i sent my study permit as well as sin and invitation letter to support spouse application via webform and email 3. I changed my program from a phd to a masters when i entered and these things made me afraid When i waited and waited I booked a flight in december to come see my family and made my two kids do medical then. I came back in january hoping to get the news of their approval soon but it took another 6months. Although i sent my flight itenary as well as transcripts and other bursaries and funding i got and even my canada bank statement but they were just acknowledged IRCC didnt work on the file. My Mp started the follow up since sept and he did it till june 15th He is really a wonderful man. He even told me last week that they already put a brought forward date on my spouse sowp file to treat it on july 6 next week. Lets i forget i sent message to IRCC virtually almost every day and it got to a point in march that dey said i shud apply for my kids vv on the new portal so i quickly applied for my kids and spouse on march 25 2022 yet nothing. I kept on sending them mails and webform infact i sent mail to the minister of immigrations, countless times. On may 2nd my kids application attached to my wifes sowp was withdrawn on the old portal. Finally, yesterday i think they withdraw my wifes application for VV and approved that of my kids and then sent her a medical request on her sowp portal becos her upfront medical was done june 22 2021 so it had expired i was even thinking it was july so i spoke to one of my bosses @akintommy and he was like to push it IRCC has reviewed it that was why dey requested for another. We have started to find how to get the medical done fast fast ooo so that i can send the passport together if possible. Sincerely, i entered and came out of depression so many times but Thank God it ended in praises. Nah to start to live the canadian dream remain. Because Canada is like the back yard of heaven. Nigeria is like the backyard of hell. God will answer everyone on the waiting list with PPR. #Greatful heart# Cheers. |

What can I do about the visit visa? Thank you. I will advise to let it process, at the end of the day you've gotten the SOWP. When my spouse's VV was approved few days later his SOWP was approved. We've seen PPRs of applicants on this thread who had eligibility and PPR on the same day. Enjoy the 100CAD you spent on your VV |

Hommolarah: Please, i need guidance regarding visa application for my daughter.
My family was approved of our Visa application (mine was study permit). However, i just had a baby in April and the school is billed to resume in September. My question...
1. Should i apply separately for my baby using the new portal since my previous application had been approved?
2. What supporting documents should i attach?
3. What is the best way to go about the application?
Someone should kindly advise. Cheers to your little one. I had a similar experience as yours. My SP PPR came on Feb 2021 (i didn't inform IRCC about my pregnancy when i applied) my intake was for May 2021, my baby's due date was July 2021 and my spouse's OWP was not yet in process at that time. What i did was contacted my school and postponed to September 2021 intake stating my reason due to child birth. I gave birth and a month after i applied for his international passport and submitted a visiting visa application which was processed on the old portal. Also you will need to update everyone's file by uploading the family form (i can't remember the form's name) and report your newborn. When you submit your baby's Visiting Visa application few days or weeks after, send an emotional email and webform stating a good reason why you need your baby's application expedited, apart from emotions you need to state facts too and let your email subject be "URGENT" When i get home i can check the documents i uploaded for my baby. it's basically just your documents, his passport, birth certificate, vaccination card/ baby book, letter of intent, and a few addition funds |

Iffylove: Hmmm I am surprised how IRCC is treating couples this way... it's not just fair.. living without someone we love so much and not knowing when the application will get approved affects mental health a lot. Please did you send to them using only mail or webform? Congratulations on your husband's approval, God will remember us all. It's really sad and disappointing, I didn't tell my husband about my email to IRCC because he would be conscious of my choice of words. I was fed up already and expressed my honest truth about the unfair treatment. I said and i quote "Seeing other Nigerians who applied in 2022 or month after May 2021 getting updates on their application. It pains me to see my husband needing to work extra hard to prove himself worthy because of his Nationality" which is true. I sent to both email and webform. |

Cotyozimede: I just need words of encouragement right now cos I am depressed.hubby in Canada since last year.so I and the kids started our application dec.although hubby contacted mp he said medicals, passed, biomatric passed criminality has been checked (valid),till now nothing x.i am just tired my kids are 4 yrs and 18mrt. I'm alone in Canada with an infant without my husband since 2021. Being a student, a mom and a protector of my baby. It's depressing and affected my mental health everyday. If i tell you stay positive, It may and may not change anything. All i can encourage you is keep yourself busy to get your mind off your application. And when you feel emotional pour it out in writing. My spouse wrote IRCC about my emotional stress several times they didn't respond, i wrote them also they didn't respond positively. Until i stated honest facts, emotional damage and mental damage its causing me that i needed to seek counsel from a doctor if all these was worth it and the bias going on, if it was fair to wait for over 372 days. I sent the email with proof as i was tired already, they responded to me within 48hrs and my spouse got approved for his Visitor Visa application, while his SOWP is still in progress. There's a limit to what a person can take. You know how you feel, you know how it hurts, you know how it's affecting your health please pour it out in writing and be direct, state it to them with conversation proofs, the bias and how it's threatening your marriage, intimacy and injuries your children sustain because it's difficult taking care of 2 kids alone and having to argue all the time which is not healthy for your marriage and if studying/ traveling in Canada is really worth the pain. Mental health is real and damaging. Please stay safe and pour out your emotions, keep yourself busy and get your mind off your application. Just my honest opinion. |

Best email arrived. "We sent you a message about your application" I’m Foreigner and my spouse is Nigerian. His VV PPR finally arrived.
He applied for OWP in May 2021 no update,
He then applied for a Visitors Visa in December 2021 which was processed in Manila, Philippines but was rejected, VO stated on his GCMS note that he had no reason to visit me and our infant child. It was heartbreaking, and triggered more of my anxiety and depression.
In April 2022 I got my study permit extension for a second program and visitor’s record for my baby.
We did several research and assistance from other Nairalander Thanks to @Technix and @lianna2020.
Due to his past refusal we decided his application should be done in his country of citizenship Nigeria and not his country of residence.
He decided to reapply for a visitor's visa on May 14th 2022 and got PPR May 26th today. 12days dang!
He checked his OWP application and Eligibility review has started wow.
Over 372 days wow, finally I can smile and I believe and hope his OWP gets approved soon.
Big Big shout out to @justmellow, @gcmswriters. I really appreciate your service. They’re very professional and dang! they interpreted exactly what I was going through. For me I wrote my invitation letter myself. I really needed to express my frustration, depression and pain being alone with a 10 month old, how my marriage is threatened, my health is threatened, my spouse being a Nigerian has to prove himself worthy all the time and having different traditions and culture. I attached chats and conversations.
PPR after visa rejection from US, Australia and Schengen. It's a pattern when he applies for visas from outside Nigeria. This time he used his houses, investments and family in Nigeria as ties to his application.
Due to the limited upload size for documents on his visitors visa application he sent more documents via Webform to address his reapplication.
I just want to say thank you to Nairalanders and the community. I don’t wish this delay on anyone. I hope his OWP gets approved as soon as possible. |

House34: I guess you are making some mistake ,firstly you trying to extend a visiting visa inside canada, but what you needed for ur child as a student is to enrol the child in a school education is free for children and the child will not be rejected then apply for a student permit for ur child because Family members of foreign students and temporary workers who need a study permit to attend primary or secondary school, do not need to show proof of financial support. According to ircc.
According to canadian law,Children under 18 are entitled to go to school in Ontario regardless of their status in Canada. This includes non-Canadians and non-Permanent Residents.
Parents and the students do not need to take any immigration documents with them to enroll in a school and the school cannot demand to see any. Parents should take some identification, proof of the child’s date of birth, and all of their child’s education related documents and records to the school that they will be attending (for example, transcripts or report cards; the school may want to test you in order to determine the student’s grade level).
Children of parents who arrive in Ontario after the school year has started (September) are entitled to start school right away. Parents should contact their school board and they must enroll the children into a school as soon as possible. You need to contact an accredited ircc immigration lawyer or ur school international departmemt so you get it rigth, many thing are possible during covid lockdown but we now in postcovid era ,your child cannot contiune to live in canada on a visiting visa .l wish you all the best Thank you for your responds. Very much appreciated. I will find out more about this from my baby's day care centre. He's only 10 months old and his day care is free. |

maziude: Visiting visa has validity period. If the visiting visa has expired or about to expire, an applicant can apply for extension of stay; if approved a visitor record will be given to the applicant specifying how long it is valid for.
Now, if you need the counterfoil, you will need to apply for a new visitor visa. Thanks for your response. In this case i need to apply my baby's TRV from our home country/country of citizenship and when it's PPR can i send the passport overseas or can request to be sent to a close by VAC ? |

Please i want to ask how do i apply for TRV counterfoil for infant who has Visitors Record in Canada.

No hating, just an observation. Seeing PPR from applicants who applied in late 2021, 2022 or months after April or May 2021 applicants. Makes me wonder what's up with IRCC? are files selected randomly because honesty it doesn't seem fair. There are news from IRCC that they are working on Backlogs...but is Nairobi exempted? it seems like a bias or tactic to make people withdraw and reapply without refund. |

skull4eva: The point is they tend to deny based on flimsy excuses for a reason best known to them. He should reapply from singapore add more home ties both to singapore and nigeria just to prove he will go back. Because he has already applied for sowp that gives the VO the notion that he wants to relocate to canada and stay so they see is application for vv as a short cut to come in and when that expires he might not wanna go back. Let him write an LOE to hammer more on the real estate business and more reasons why he will leave after is visit and the childs situation and ur need for assistance then attach you extended study permit i believe that should fly. Wait for other suggestions from the gurus in the house thanks skull4eva. |
Travel › Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by rheene009: 6:21am On Mar 27, 2022 |
skull4eva: 1. When did your spouse apply for this VV? 2. When you initially applied did you use t Your spouse as home ties? 3. What is your spouse profession? Like i wrote some days ago this days the VOs look for flimsy reasons to deny VV for spouses that has SOWP application because they think sposues would need something more tangible to want to take them back home when VV expires even when SOWP application is stil in progress. Already your spouse is not in nigeria that make the VO assume that you and your spouse has the tendency not to return at the end of ur stay, more so your application for vv also looked desperate because ur study permit was almost expiring, finally the reasons you gave were no convincing to the VO that was why he termed them for no reason rewrite your SOP to give more convincing reasons why he must come to spend some time with tangible evidences that he will leave after the visit, submit ur extended study permit, in ur sop dwell more on the child care and probably how it is affecting you. Another thing of concern is hope your hubbys stay in singapore is genuie, legitimate and not short term? I believe from my little experience that the VV decision should not affect the decision for sowp but in the main time reapply for the vv as sowp is taking forever now except your spouse job is a profession that is termed esaential Hi skull4eva 1. When did your spouse apply for this VV? he applied in Dec 2021 got rejected on 1st of Feb 2022 2. When you initially applied did you use your spouse as home ties? He was one of my home ties, but I focused more on my job and my parent's investments and properties. 3. What is your spouse's profession? He manages our real estate business in Singapore while I'm away for my study. He has more ties in Nigeria compared to Singapore that's why his SOWP was submitted in Nigeria. His visa is genuine, I'm Singaporean so he holds a spousal resident permit which is probational. for some reason, IDK Nigeria passport holders are given a probational spousal resident permit. I'm just surprised they mentioned "No Reason" because he wrote his SOP, I also wrote an invitation letter expressing my difficulties as a student and as a mother with a baby during covid, I also attached a letter from a doctor who explained my situation when i and my baby got covid and no one to assist us. It's ok to state that my visa is less than 3 months since it will expire in April but stating "No reason" is quite surprising. Thank you skull4eva for your input on this. I will wait for my extension to be approved then I wonder if he should reapply using Nigeria as residence or Singapore? |
Travel › Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by rheene009: 4:03am On Mar 27, 2022 |
I just got my GCMS notes for the reason of refusal for my hubby's VV and SOWP application. the reason for his refusal on the gcms note is "Nigerian national who is a probationary resident in Singapore is seeking TRV to join spouse, Applicant also has an OPEN WORK PERMIT application in progress in Nairobi and there is no reason for the applicant to join spouse. Weighing the factors in this application. I am not satisfied that the applicant will depart Canada at the end of the period authorized for their stay. For the reason above, I have refused this application" VV was processed in Singapore since my spouse works there, and SOWP is still in progress, processed in Nairobi since April 2021.
The reason for VV and also for SOWP was family reunification since I'm alone here with an 11-month-old and I need some physical support. Though my study permit was less than 3 months at the time I applied for VV, since I didn't receive an update from IRCC for my spouse's SOWP that was applied back in April 2021.
I want to ask what do you think I should do? I applied for a study permit extension in February 2022, which is currently in progress and my spouse sent a web form with my new LOA and explained I have submitted a study permit extension. Will the refusal from the VV affect my spouse's OWP? |
