Christianity EtcWhat Holy Thursday Is All About by Richieboyn(op): 1:44am On Mar 24, 2016
HOLY THURSDAY.

TODAY MARKS THE BEGINNING OF EASTER
TRIDUUM. (A 3day period before Easter. Holy
Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday).
Holy Thursday(Maundy Thursday) is the day before
Good Friday and it commemorates the 'Washing of
the disciples feet' by our Lord'- A sign of his
humility and service. And it also commemorates the
LAST SUPPER of Jesus Christ with his disciples.
On Holy Thursday there is a special Mass in the
morning in all Cathedrals, (commonly known as the 'Chrism Mass' or 'Cathedraticum') attended by as many
priests and congregation of the diocese as can
attend, because it is a solemn observance of
Christ's institution of the priesthood. At this 'Chrism
Mass', the Bishop blesses the Oil of Chrism used for
Baptism and Confirmation. The bishop washes the
feet of twelve of the priests, to symbolize Christ's
washing of the feet of His Apostles, the first priests.
(Note that in some diocese' this Chrism mass has been shifted to be celebrated on any day shortly before the Holy week. E.g Abuja Archdiocese). This was adopted because in times past, the priests got back late to their parishes for the evening liturgy.

The Holy Thursday liturgy, is celebrated in the
evening because Passover of Jesus with His disciples began at sunset, it
shows both the worth Jesus ascribes to the humility
of service, and the need for cleansing with water (a
symbol of baptism). The officiating priest also strips
of his Chasuble-d BIG outer garment he wear (in imitation of Jesus-John 13:4) and washes
the feet of 12male parishoners.

The action of the Church on Holy Thursday night is
a sign of the Church's REVERENCE for Christ's Body
present in the CONSECRATED HOST in the
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, carried in
SOLEMN PROCESSION admist chants of 'Pangue
Lingua Gloriosi' to the flower-bedecked Altar of
Repose, where it will remain hidden until the
communion service on Good Friday. It can also be
kept in the Chapel of the Parish house for security
purposes. No Mass will be celebrated again in the
Church until the Easter Vigil proclaims the
Resurrection.
And finally, there is the Adoration of the Blessed
Sacrament by the congregation during the night
(They are divided into groups. An hour of adoration
for each group. (Just our Lord admonished His disciples to do in Mark 14:37 during His agony in the Garden of Gethsemane
before the betrayal by Judas).

Holy Thursday is the day on which Catholics
commemorate the
institution of three pillars of the Catholic Faith: the
Sacrament of HOLY COMMUNION, the
PRIESTHOOD, and the MASS. During the Last
Supper, Christ blessed the bread and wine with the
very words that priests use today to consecrate the
Body and Blood of Christ during the Mass and the
Divine Liturgy. In telling His disciples to "Do this in
remembrance of Me," He instituted the Mass and
made them the first priests.

NOTE: The liturgical colour of Today is WHITE
signifying salvation. The Gloria is chanted with the
use of piano and other musical instruments while
bells are rung by the altarservers in d church during
the Gloria. After the Gloria, ALL THE BELLS AND
MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS GO SILENT until Holy
Saturday. All singing is to be done in Accapela
(natural voice, no accompaniment). In place of the
Altar bells, a WOODEN CLAPPER is used during
consecration and while transferring the Body of
Christ to the Altar of repose for Veneration.
(An analogy has it that the ringing of bells signify the joy the disciples had with Jesus shortly before his Agony in the garden and that the reason for the clapper is a symbol of the fear that enveloped the disciples knowin fully well that their master was about to die, so they talked in hush tones).

Good morning

Christianity EtcMy Experience At St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dubai. by Richieboyn(op): 8:43am On Sep 15, 2015
MY EXPERIENCE AT ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC
CHURCH, DUBAI.

Sunday, 13th September 2015, we were to attend
Evening mass in English by 19:30hours GMT +4
(7:30pm). This waa about our best option as the
finding a church in Dubai can be compared to
finding an oasis in the desert. This can be attributed
to the fact that this is a muslim country but it has
been said previously that any settlement without a
CATHOLIC CHURCH, IGBO MAN, & COCA-COLA
products is incomplete.
Well we set out from our Hotel at bout 6:45pm and
had about 30minutes drive before we got to the
Church.

The beautiful and well lit grotto of our Blessed Virgin
Mary with burning incenses and the praying faithful
was a very exciting sight to behold. I didn't fail to
notice the caption: "Do not throw money in here"
that was inscribed on the body of the Grotto. (But na
normal thing for naija na, I thought within me).

Anyway, we proceeded to enter the Church building
and for some micro seconds I wondered if I was in
Church or in the Maracana Stadium because the
size of the Church was like 25 or more football
fields joined together with projectors everywhere;
the eight wonder of the world I guessed.
The rosary prayers were ongoing and the Church
was packed full to the brim to the extent that people
(including I) had to stand.

The Holy Mass began @ EXACTLY 7:30pm and I
was pleased there was no 'African time'. Well, I
immediately noticed that 98% of the females there
had their heads UNCOVERED and were clad in all
sorts of trousers. Even the two girls who served at
mass had nothing above their heads. (Nawa O!,
wetin de happen nahuh ). I decided to watch
keenly everything that was happening.

The Liturgy of the word commenced immediately
with two layreaders approaching the sanctuary clad
in SUITS, even the woman wore a TROUSER SUIT
with UNCOVERED HAIR....it is well O! Lest I forget to
mention, not even one altarserver came out to
welcome the lectors, they were just sitting down. I
thought they will at least flank the priest with
candles during the Gospel but it was contrary to my
thinking.

The homily came next as expected. It was
EXACTLY 15mins. (Seriouslyhuh? :-O), the homily
was so cool and calm and philosophical that I
couldn't help but think of my own lovely Fr. Essien
Augustus (MSP) and Fr. Benedict Egbuchulem... But
I at once began to miss my own friends Fr Franklin;
my energetic, charismatic, vibrant humourous and
talented minister who could run from one end of the
sanctuary to the other in jubilation and soul lifting
praise. Why was Fr. Mario Dibie not here to act
drama for us and make us appreciate every detail
of the word of God in very simple ways? Can Fr.
Victor Ogunyemi miraculously appear here and lead
us in beautiful angelic worship to Yaweh Sabaoth?
Well, if wishes were horses...

The offering was next, I had straightened out my
well tailored native ready to walk down to the
offering stand when I suddenly noticed that
NOBODY WAS STANDING UP, (why na?),
SUDDENLY, about 50 individuals came out with
some opaque materials with wooden handles and
moved round each each seat for the worshippers to
put in their offering. (Chisos! Uwa-oma, I couldnt
help but wonder whether this was a normal offering
of the mass or an SBC of a Marian gathering).

LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST.

Everything was so usual and familiar to me until I
heard "Let us offer each other the sign of peace", I
excitedly prepared to shake @ least 10 hands or
more when I noticed that everybody in the
congregation was sufdenly an Altarserver, because
they all had their hands in the form of prayer and
began to nod their heads to the cardinal points of the
earth, mehn, I quickly pocketed my Nigerian hand
O! Thank God say dem no notice sef.
There wwre over 40 lay distributors of the Body of
Christ, I think they are called 'instituted alcolytes' or
something. I quickly noticed that they were all
bringing out their palms to receive Holy Communion,
thank God I didnt bring out my Nigerian tongue o.
.
***********************
I almost shouted 'O Sacrament most Holy and I
remembered I was not in NFCS. Surprisingly,
the priest himself began to take the announcements
of the Church and ended with, for other
announcements, visit the Church WEBSITE. ( ok na,
me I am used to 'please refer to your bulletin' or at
best 'please check the notice board'. Then the priest
took the prayer After Communion. (When
announcements became part of the Communion
rites, I wondered). I also noticed that THERE WAS
NO SECOND COLLECTION.

Finally, an announcement was made that the
Charismatics will be having a programme on
Wednesday evening tagged "Come let us praise the
Lord". Shuooooo! It is veey good to praise God, but
na say this people no get wicked aunty 4 village
wey talk say dem nor go make am? Dem no get
people wey sidan for their progress? I couldn't help
but think of the themes of the crusades we have at
home.

*LOOSE HIM AND LET HIM GO!
* NONE SHALL BE BARREN IN THE LAND
* THAT GRAVE IS NOT FOR YOU
* LORD, MY CASE IS URGENT!
* GET BEHIND ME SATAN!

Just February this year, I organised "O LORD MAKE
HASTE TO HELP ME' for my people at school. Is it
that this people really don't have issues to settle?
What happened to our weapon of "HOLYGHOST
FIRE"? I was almost relaxing and about to believe
that the world is generally sweet when I
remembered that I am not from Dubai. I have not
forgotten that I am a Spiritual warrior, FIRE is my
name and identity and I do not plan to stop Firing in
the nearest future. Even this night, before I sleep, I
must FIRE! because those who lie in wait for the
Children of God for no just cause are on patrol.
Anyway, I think I will stop here. Any similar
experience from anyone? Pls share! —

THE WORD OF GOD.

In the First Reading today, Isaiah 55:11 says, "So shall the WORD be that goes forth from my mouth, IT SHALL NOT RETURN TO ME VOID, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

My dear, in Hebrews 4:12 The WORD of God is ALIVE and ACTIVE. In Psalm 138:2 God has magnified His WORD above His NAME. In Matt. 24:35, ...heaven and earth will pass away but the WORD OF GOD abides forever.

Child of God, is it not yet OBVIOUS that the WORD of God is not something to take lightly?
You must have heard when it was said: "There is POWER in the word". Oh! What a discovery cheesy. This means that when you have knowledge of the word of God, you have power! There is no situation that you cannot overcome! Because for EVERYTHING happening on the surface of this earth, there is a Bible Reference. wink. Great isnt it?

My dear, the message is simple. You cannot wield power from something you're ignorant of. The Bible is the seen word of God. HOLD UNTO IT! DO NOT LET IT GO! NEVER YOU ALLOW A DAY PASS WITHOUT OPENING YOUR BIBLE! Do this and you will testify.

In John 1:4, the WORD was made flesh and dwelt among us. The word made flesh is JESUS CHRIST. Child of God, CALL ON THE NAME OF JESUS! There is nothing to hard for Him. In Philipians 2:10- AT THE NAME OF JESUS, EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW!

I will stop here. Just remember, that God created the WHOLE WORLD out of WORDS only. We are God's image, therefore we can also create and destroy by application of God's word in everything we do.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Utterances BREAK hinderances.

I pray for you today, that all you have read may fall on a fertile soil as in the Gospel Reading and bear fruit. So that from today, you'll HOLD ON TO THE WORD OF GOD AND APPLY IT ALWAYS. Amen.

Psalm 47:1- Clap your hands O ye people...!

If I were yu, I will begin to clap for God for the blessing of the month of June past and the month of July present.

Child of God we're in the second half of this match. Normally, in matches, d players do what they think is the best IN THEIR OWN UNDERSTANDING to win that match throughout the first half. Sometimes it works well for them and @ other times it doesnt. Whatever the case may be, their COACH takes note of ALL they've been doing throughout and during the halftime advises them on how to be better in d second half. With this TRUST they have in d words of their coach, they step out CONFIDENTLY into d second half. most of d time, they do very well and defeat the other team if their coach is really skilled.

Child of God, January-June was our first half, this is our half time and our coach is telling us today:

"TRUST in the Lord WITH ALL YOUR HEART and LEAN NOT UPON YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING. IN ALL YOUR WAYS ACKNOWLEDGE HIM, AND HE SHALL DIRECT YOUR PATH". - Proverbs 3:5, 6.

Thats the instruction from our coach. Remember that the players always do better EXCEPT the coach of their opponents is better than their own coach. Is anyone greater or wiser than our God? NO! Follow Him this month and He shall direct your path, with Him Victory is sure. AMEN!

JULY THEME: Proverbs 3:5,6.

HAPPY NEW MONTH. I LOVE YOU.

NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS:

Resolutions are a list of points drawn out to serve as guidelines on how u'll behave in d new year. De r to govern ur prayer life, ur manner of relationship with people, ur eating habits, and indeed EVERYTHING about u.
When making resolutions, d following points r to be taken into cognizance.

1. Do not pile up a litany of resolutions to be observed by you: Some people feel hapi with demselves by havinqa LONG LIST of resolutions. But itz not d length dat matters. Keeping dem is wat matters. Make it as brief as possible.
2) Do not make resolutions that are impossible for you to keep: When making resolutions, make resolutions u will be able 2achieve. E.g. It will be impossible for u to say u'll give all ur monthly pocket money to d poor; when u have no other source of livelihood as a student.
3). Let ur resolutions be based on who u are: Do not make resolutions because odas r making. Resolutions of pple differ on account of deir profession, family background, experiences in life, etc. E.g a farmer's resolutions will differ from a doctor's resolutions. Check urself and kw which fits u.
4) PRAYER: Always pray about wat u've resolved. As d year runs, d resolutions shd form part of ur prayer points. This helps you to access urself, so u kw weda ur progressing, regressing or static.
5). DISCIPLINE: lastly, discipline shd be ur watchword. Infact dis goes hand-in-hand with prayer. Even wn u feel weak about sticking to d resolutions, keep striving and keep praying abt dem. Strength will come 2u from d Lord. Without discipline, u won't stick 2ur resolutions and u'll find urself qoing back 2 ur old habits by February or even before the end of January. May God hellp us all.

So, if you've not made yours, start making them and if you have strive to keep it. HAPPY NEW YEAR...
