Foreign AffairsTrump Blasts Facebook Claim Of Russian Election Interference With Ads by Rico96(op): 5:20pm On Sep 22, 2017
U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday blasted claims by Facebook that it had published thousands of advertisements originating from Russia, from groups seeking to influence 2016 election, even as the Kremlin denied any involvement.

“The Russia hoax continues, now it’s ads on Facebook. What about the totally biased and dishonest media coverage in favour of Crooked Hillary?’’

Trump wrote on Twitter, a day after the popular social network said it would provide the U.S. Congress with details about political ads sponsored by Russians as part of the investigation into Russian influence in the U.S. presidential election.

The Kremlin denied being involved in Facebook advertisements that have been aimed at influencing U.S. politics and said it does not know, who placed the ads.

“We have never engaged in this,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in comments carried by state news agency TASS.

“The Russian side has never been involved in this,” he said.

Earlier this month, Facebook said it sold some 100,000 dollars in political ads purchased out of Russia that were aimed at influencing U.S. politics.

Some 3,000 ads sold between June 2015 and May 2017 were tied to inauthentic accounts and pages that violated the site’s policies and “were affiliated with one another and likely operated out of Russia,” Facebook’s Chief Security Officer, Alex Stamos, said in a statement.

Separate probes by the U.S. Congress and an independent counsel into Russian interference in the U.S. presidential election are continuing and include questions about potential collusion between members of Donald Trump’s campaign and Russia

EducationPolitical Elites Should Send Wards To Nigerian Schools – JAMB by Rico96(op): 4:52pm On Sep 22, 2017
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has urged the elites to encourage their dependents to obtain their first degree in Nigeria before going for further studies abroad.

JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede gave the advice in Abuja on Friday while speaking with newsmen.

The registrar was speaking on the sidelines of a workshop on intensive Training and Sensitisation Forum on Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) for the 2017/2018 academic session.

According to him, it will be worthwhile for the children to obtain the first degree in the country where the public and private institutions are of high quality and standard rather than study abroad at institutions that are of poor quality and low standard.

It is better for the elite in Nigeria to let their wards and children attend universities, higher institutions in Nigeria, at least for the first degree.

“But if they wish to go for Masters, PhD and so on elsewhere, there is nothing bad about that.

“But for the first degree, we have enough universities here – both public and private because when most of them go outside Nigeria to study, they do that at private institutions.

“And I know countries in Africa where Nigerian students constitute 90 per cent of the class in every set as if those institutions were set up for Nigerians.

“What we are saying is that you have better value if you send your children to private universities in Nigeria than sending them to study at private universities of poor quality outside Nigeria.’’

Oloyede called on owners of private universities to consider the economic situation in the country and make tuition fees affordable for parents.

He said that the institutions were operating in a competitive world and that failure to check excessive increase in tuition fees could force many of the schools to close shop
“I believe that private institutions are established for worthy purpose.

“ I also believe that private institutions’ charges are high, but they are not as high as traveling outside the country and people still send large number of students to inferior universities.

“ If you care I will show you on my telephone, I was in Uganda, I was in a number of African countries about a month ago.

“And if you see the condition; I am disturbed by the fact that not only that the conditions were not conducive, But also because 90 per cent of the students are from Nigeria.

“In some cases you find them under tents taking courses.

SportsReal perspective:Messi Has The Same Amount Of Liga Goals As Madrid Combined by Rico96(op): 12:37pm On Sep 21, 2017
The Argentine currently sits level with Los Blancos' squad, highlighting the issues facing Zinedine Zidane

With Real Madrid having failed to score - for the first time in 74 Liga games - in their shock loss to Real Betis, Barcelona striker Lionel Messi now sits level with the entire capital club combined with nine goals scored in the Spanish top flight.

Hotly tipped to walk the league after their impressive exploits last season, as well as yet another poor transfer window for Barcelona, Madrid have gotten off to an extremely poor start domestically to raise questions over Zinedine Zidane's attacking options.

The fortunes of eternal rival Cristiano Ronaldo's side sit in stark contrast, with Madrid recording 3-0, 2-2, 1-1, 3-1 and 0-1 results, respectively, the worst of them coming in Wednesday's night's loss in which Ronaldo himself returned from a
five-match ban .

The Portuguese's return to action was an underwhelming one as the result suggests, with the Ballon d'Or holder having 12 shots on goal but registering only two on target, providing yet another worry for Madrid when compared to Messi's four-goal performance against Eibar.

With his Clasico rivals defying the odds by sitting at the top of La Liga with 17 strikes in the goals scored column after a quick start to the season, Zidane faces the tricky task of swiftly turning around Madrid's fortunes or risks giving away the title before the campaign gets properly under way.

Nairaland GeneralHelp Monitor, Report Reckless Truck Drivers, Dangote Begs Public by Rico96(op): 10:25am On Sep 20, 2017
The Management of Dangote Industries Limited has launched a passionate appeal to members of the public to assist in monitoring both the recklessness and illegal haulage of contraband goods by some of its truck drivers.

It noted that trucks belonging to Dangote Cement were only allowed to carry cement, high grade gypsum and coal, those belonging to Dangote Sugar (NASCON).

The company also revealed in a statement yesterday that trucks belonging to Agrosacks, the bags producing arm of Dangote group could only carry bags belonging to Dangote Flour Mills, Wheat, Flour and Danvita.

The statement read: “The Management of Dangote Industries Limited hereby alert the public to report any suspected Dangote Truck driver involved in illegal haulage.

‘’Please call Dangote Industries Management hotline on all information regarding illegal haulage activities on 08070188000, 01- 2123567, 08170023846 08152093133.”

‘’Dangote management also issues a stern warning to those illegally transporting unauthorized goods through its trucks.

“Dangote Industries Limited equally wishes to warn those that illegally transport materials on Dangote truck that such unauthorized goods, when found, shall be confiscated and such owners prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”

PoliticsIPOB: I Won’t Dethrone Nnamdi Kanu’s Father – Ikpeazu by Rico96(op): 9:20pm On Sep 19, 2017
ABUJA – GOVERNOR Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Tuesday said that he will not dethrone the traditional ruler of Afara Ukwu Ibeku Autonomous Community of the state, His Royal Highness, Eze Isreal Kanu, the father of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu because of the involvement of his son in the ongoing tension in the state.

There have been calls from some people from Umuahia that the governor should dethrone Kanu’s father following the horrible experience the people had from the military that had invaded all streets in the area to curb the activities of IPOB.

Specifically, the Umuahia Youths Movement On Sunday gave governor Ikpeazu a 24-hour ultimatum to dethrone Kanu’s father as paramount ruler of else they would take the laws upon their hands claiming that the royal father was not fit to be king as he was unable to control his son.

But another group, Ibeku Youth Assembly warned against any attempt to remove the traditional ruler from his throne.

But Governor Ikpeazu who was at the Presidential Villa to brief President Muhammadu Buhari who was represented by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on the security situations in his state told State House correspondents that there was a difference between Kanu and his father.

According to him, “I clearly separate Kanu from his father. The processes of handling traditional institutions are enshrined in the laws of our land.

“Traditional rulers who are members of our constituency have leadership, they will do the needful at the appropriate time. But for me, I think their is a clear division between Nnamdi Kanu and his father.”

Fielding question on what went wrong, he said, “It depends from what point to what point. But if you are referring to what happened in the past one week. Nigerians know that for some time now this group called IPOB is agitating for a separate nation called Biafra and that the home state of the leader of that group happens to be Abia State.

“As expected, when such things happen there is an interface between some members of that group and the military, and the theater was Abia state.

“Some people attempted to hijack that event to conflagrat our country. To the glory of God, the rest is history, we are still working to stabilize the fragile peace in the region. I thank God also for the instruments he used to be able to keep our country as one. We are humbled by the privileges.”

On what he told the northern governors that were in his state as a result of the ethnic tension generated by the clash between the army and IPOB, he said that he assured the northern governors of the safety of their people in Abia State.

He said, “Well, I assured them of safety of lives and property of everybody that resides in Abia whether you are an Abian or not an Abian. I swore with the Bible to protect lives and property and because I take such things seriously, I will continue to protect the lives and property of my brothers and sisters irrespective of where they come from.

“You know that the main stay of our economy in Abia State is trade and commerce and I do not think it will augur well for our economy if we make our kitchen the theater of Biafra.

“A native wisdom in my place says you shouldn’t allow fight to ensue from your mother’s kitchen. It is my responsibility also to grow prosperity from my state.”

Commenting on the essence of his meeting with the Vice President, he said, “Well, naturally I am heading a subnational government when this kind of thing happens which would have had dimension of national proportion, it is right that you will come and brief the Commander-in-Chief or his vice and that is exactly what I have come to do.”

On his reaction to allegations that the IPOB crisis was as a result of failure of leadership in the South East, he said that the new crop of governors in the zone were doing their best to better the lots of the people.

He said, “Allegations are supposed to be investigated by investigative officers and I am not trying to investigate such things, so is just the masses especially the press.

“You know, we are perception builders, we should try to say things that are good about our country not things that are bad. I think there are enough reasons to see that under our circumstance that we may not be Eldorado yet but there are concerted efforts and attempts to make our place a better place.

“I do not see how as an Ibo man boxing myself into a smaller geographic entity without recourse of the most widely traveled people in Nigeria. There are Igbos in Sambisa, what are you expecting of them if I narrow their geography of coverage.

“But agitation, marginalization, infrastructural deficiencies, these are issues which are germane and they can be discussed, they can be spoken about, they can be addressed. But I do not know how in 21st century how carrying arms in my kitchen will grow the prosperity of my people.”

On his message to Igbos all over the world he said, “First and foremost I think our relationship with our brothers from northern Nigeria the governors, they have assured that every part of Nigeria is safe for every Nigerian including Igbos to continue in their business and enterprise.

“I want to announce that the population of Igbos outside Igbo enclave is about 11.6 million, you don’t play with the lives of 11.6 million. So we all have to be careful, the press, the leadership at the state level, the leadership at the federal government level, everybody.

“I think we should be guided by the rule of law and grow confidence in the Nigerian citizens that under our laws that everybody is protected.”

PoliticsOkowa Signs DSIEC, 2 Other Bills Into Law by Rico96(op): 5:17pm On Sep 19, 2017
Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta on Tuesday in Asaba signed three bills into law, including the Delta State Independent National Electoral Commission (DSIEC) Bill (2017).

The others bills which the governor accented to were the Local Government Amendment Bill (2017) and the Administration of Criminal Justice Bill (2016).

Okowa signed the bills in the presence of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Sheriff Oborevwori and other principal officers while commending them for their dedication to duty.

The governor said that it was auspicious to accent to the bill now so as to strengthen the commission.
He said that the law would facilitate the reconstitution of the membership of the commission before the tenure of the Local Government councils expired in October.

“I believe that with this action, members of the commission will be appointed to assume office for the smooth conduct of the local government election.

Okowa said that the laws would ensure good governance and respect for the rule of law as well as ensure progress in the state.

The governor gave the assurance that his administration would continue to support local government councils in the state to offset their salary arrears.

He, however, attributed the inability of some local governments to pay salaries to over bloated staff strength in the councils and the primary schools.

Okowa called on the council workers’ unions to support the efforts of his administration to rid the councils of ghost workers through the capturing of the staff biometrics.

“We will continue to support the local government councils to pay salaries because their revenue is very low which makes it difficult for them to shoulder their responsibilities,” he said.

He noted that some local government councils did not owe their workers’ salaries because their wage bill was low.

Earlier, Oborovweri said that the bills passed through the rigorous process of different house committees before their passage.

He noted that Delta was among the very few states that had enacted the administration of criminal justice law.

Ilorin – The University of Ilorin has for the fourth consecutive year maintained its status as the most subscribed university by admission seekers from 2014 to 2017.
