Up North, they don't care as long as they can trace it to their person of interest. It's the reason you have block votes from there. Do you also hear of violence in the north? No! It's down here we use violence and allow the meagre votes we have to be canceled.

SportsMessi Tops Ronaldo On Highest-paid Footballers List by Rico96(op): 6:20am On Feb 08, 2019
The Barcelona star earns a bit more his longtime rival on the list revealed by French publication L’Equipe

Lionel Messi is the highest paid footballer in Europe, beating out Cristiano Ronaldo by over £3 million per month.

French publication L’Equipe has released its annual report of the top football salaries and it is no surprise to see the two stars are at the top of the list.

However, some may be shocked by the order of the names that follow, as well as a couple of inclusions in the group.

The list is made up entirely of players from the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and Ligue 1, with the Bundesliga the sole top-five league that does not have a representative in the top 10.

Messi leads the way, as the Barcelona talisman and current top scorer in La Liga earns £7.3 million ($9.5m) a month before tax.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who is in the first year with Juventus, comes in second with a salary of £4.1m, just over half of what his old rival pockets.

While many might expect Neymar to slot in behind, the Paris Saint-Germain star actually clocks in fourth, earning £2.7 million a month.
Instead, it is Atletico Madrid and France star Antoine Griezmann who has the third spot, earning £2.9 million thanks to the new deal he signed with the club after his decision last season to snub Barcelona.

Messi’s team-mate Luis Suarez rounds out the top five, earning £2.5 million to lead the line at Barcelona.

Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale is sixth on the list, earning £2.2 million at the Bernabeu and is the only Real Madrid representative in the top 10.

Meanwhile, Barcelona has three, as in addition to Messi and Suarez, Philippe Coutinho is seventh on the list, as he earns £2m off the contract he signed with the Liga club in January 2018.

The first Premier League representative is Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez, who likewise earns around £2m per month at Old Trafford.

PSG is once again represented on the list with Neymar’s team-mate Kylian Mbappe pulling in £1.5m.

Rounding out the top 10 is another Premier League player as Mesut Ozil earns £1.4 million per month with Arsenal.

The highest earning Bundesliga player is Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, who missed out with a £1.2m monthly salary.

Neymar and Mbappe were nearly joined on the list by Edinson Cavani, who earns £1.3 million. In fact, all five of the highest paid players in Ligue 1, according to L’Equipe are at PSG, as Thiago Silva and Angel Di Maria round out that top five at around £1m per month

Sports'Arsenal's Unbeaten Run Offered False Hope'–Wright by Rico96(op): 12:25pm On Feb 07, 2019
The former Gunners striker believes an impressive sequence of results early in the 2018-19 masked the faults which are now holding the team back

Arsenal were offered “false hope” by a 22-match unbeaten run, says Ian Wright, with things having now become “a little worrying in respect of top four”.

Finishing inside the Champions League spots was the ultimate target put to Unai Emery upon his appointment as Arsene Wenger’s successor in the summer of 2018.

With the Gunners having spent two years outside of the European elite, a desire to avoid an unwelcome hat-trick has been driving ambition at Emirates Stadium.

Emery made a solid start to that quest, with back-to-back defeats to open the season followed a lengthy run in which no setbacks were suffered across multiple competitions .
Arsenal have, however, regressed to their inconsistent ways of late and, with little money being spent across two transfer windows, they are now playing catch up once more.

Wright believes such a situation was always on the cards, with the faults masked early in the campaign now threatening to undermine the Gunners’ efforts.

The Arsenal legend told Radio 5 Live : “Going back to the unbeaten run, I think that gave people false hope in respect to finishing fourth.
“It was a great run but during that run, there were times in it where you thought, ‘Ooh, that was a bit tricky for us, could have done better here, could have done better there.’

“But the fact is that that kind of elevated everybody’s expectations a bit and I still feel top four is still out of our reach if I’m going to be totally honest.

“The Europa League is something that Arsenal should be really focusing on, for me.

“To be honest it’s the only thing you can focus on because if you look at the way it has gone in the Premier League, and it looks like they’ve fallen away a bit, Arsenal.

“Chelsea look like they’re maybe going to emerge a little bit now they’ve got the striker they need, Man United are really on form.
“You have to say that it’s looking a little bit worrying in respect of top four.

“But I think that Europa League is what Arsenal should be focusing on.

“The manager’s got a bit of pedigree in it and I think we can get some guys back [from injury] and have a blast for that.”

Arsenal sit sixth in the Premier League table at present.

They have slipped behind London rivals Chelsea and resurgent Manchester United, but remain only three points adrift of the top four.

A safe passage has also been secured to the last 32 of the Europa League, with BATE presenting the next continental obstacle for a side that reached the semi-finals of that competition under Wenger last season.

SportsJose Mourinho Accepts A 12-Month Prison Sentence For Tax Fraud by Rico96(op): 12:56pm On Feb 05, 2019
Spanish prosecutors have sentenced the ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid boss to 12 months in prison as part of a deal reached in a tax fraud case

Jose Mourinho has accepted a 12-month prison sentence and a fine of close to €2.2 million after admitting to tax fraud in Madrid - but will not serve time in jail.

The 56-year-old was accused of evading paying in the region of €3.3m in taxes on image rights while he was head coach of Real Madrid.

The Portuguese will not spend any time in prison as the sentence is for less than two years.
In 2016, Mourinho's representatives Gestifute released a statement insisting he was "fully compliant with tax obligations" after allegations of tax evasion first came to light via the whistleblowing platform 'Football Leaks’'

However, he struck a deal with Spanish prosecutors last year, which was ratified at a court on Tuesday.

SportsEgypt To Host Afcon 2019 Tournament by Rico96(op): 12:27pm On Jan 08, 2019
The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament will be staged in Egypt between June and July, this was confirmed by Caf on Tuesday
The Confederation of African Football (Caf) on Tuesday announced Egypt as the new hosts for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Egypt submitted their bid alongside South Africa to host the finals after the rights were taken away from Cameroon late last year.

According to Caf, Cameroon was not ready to host a successful and expanded 24-team tournament.

Caf was expected to make an official announcement on Wednesday, but this was brought forward to Tuesday.

While South African football fans were divided as to whether or not the country should bid for the tournament, the South African Football Association (Safa) never got the backing from the government which reportedly made it difficult for Caf to accept their bid.

SportsJohn Obi Mikel Quits Chinese Side Tianjin Teda by Rico96(op): 2:17pm On Jan 05, 2019
he Nigeria international has cancelled his contract with the Tianjin Tigers, although his next destination remains unknown
John Obi Mikel has confirmed his exit from Chinese Super League side Tianjin Teda.
The 31-year-old joined the Tianjin Tigers in January 2017 from English Premier League club Chelsea after finding game time difficult to come by under Antonio Conte.
The former Lyn Oslo midfielder made 31 appearances scoring three goals and contributing three assists during his two-year stay with Teda.
And on Friday, the Super Eagles captain affirmed his contract termination with the Tianjin Olympic Center Stadium outfit, although his next move is still unknown.
“I broke the contract with the club, which means I will leave Teda,” Mikel told Tianjin TV Sports New Vision programme.
“As for my next stop, I am not sure yet, maybe I will return to Europe, maybe stay in China.
“Anyway, I would like to wish the Teda team good luck next season.”
Mikel played his last game for Tianjin Teda in October 2018 helping the side to a 4-2 win over Shanghai Shenhua.
Turkish SuperLig side Fenerbahce are believed to be interested in the midfielder.

SportsInside Salah's First Club: Debut At 15 & Half-time Tears by Rico96(op): 2:50pm On Jan 03, 2019
The Liverpool forward has come a long way since starting out at El Mokawloon Club, with his hard work and dedication being richly rewarded
Mohamed Salah’s path to global superstardom has been a long and arduous one, with the Liverpool forward having started out in humble surroundings at El Mokawloon Club.

It is that grounding which has made him the player he is today, with the 26-year-old having never lost sight of his roots while being
showered by praise and prestigious awards in the professional ranks – including the Goal Arab Player of the Year prize for 2018.

He has had to work hard – harder than most – to get to this point, with the determination which shaped him as a youngster now allowing him to
thrive as a senior sensation and role model to millions .

Those who helped to mould Salah’s undoubted potential never doubted that he would scale such heights, with every obstacle that has been put in front of the pacey frontman having been cleared with consummate ease.

Mohamed Radwan – the man who gave a teenage Salah his first taste of senior football – told Goal of the raw talent he first encountered in Egypt: “In 2008, I was the manager of El Mokawloon’s first team and I decided to watch their U16 team match versus Al Ahly. My assistants had wondered why I may be interested in players under the age of 16!

“In that match, Salah was awesome and he really caught my attention. I immediately decided to bring him to the first team. And because he was just 15 years old, his body wasn’t fully formed so we worked on a special diet and training program for him.

“At the end of 2008, Mo Salah had played his first match in the Egyptian League and it was against Enppi SC. He was 15 years and 10 months old exactly, so he is considered the youngest player to ever play at the Egyptian League.

“Enppi were playing really well at that time and our team were not enjoying their best days. Salah was warming up, so I told him my decision that he’s going to play and I asked him: ‘Are you afraid?’ He responded with confidence: ‘No Sir’.

“Mo Salah, from the first glance, had the speed and the talent, the fateful decision was to call on a young player and give him the chance!”

Mohamed Salah has been named Goal Arab Player of the Year for 2018
SportsMessi: I Want Neymar And Guardiola Back by Rico96(op): 11:41pm On Dec 27, 2018
The Blaugrana captain says he would like to see both the Brazilian and former boss Pep Guardiola come back to the club in the near future
Lionel Messi would love to have Neymar back at Barcelona but admitted Paris Saint-Germain are unlikely to let their star asset leave.
Neymar swapped Camp Nou for Parc des Princes in a world-record €222m ($253m, £200m) move back in August 2017.
The 26-year-old spent four successful seasons at Barca, winning La Liga twice and the Champions League once, but a desire to step out of Messi's shadow is believed to have motivated his unexpected exit.
Speculation persists that Neymar could yet seek a return to the Blaugrana and his Brazil team-mate Arthur, who linked up with Spanish champions at the start of the season, said this week he was "praying" for the rumours to become reality .
Messi shares a similar view but holds reservations over the likelihood of PSG sanctioning the transfer.
"I see it as complicated," the Barca captain said in a wide-ranging interview with Marca .
"We would love him to come back for what he means, both as a player and for the locker room.
"We are friends, we have lived very nice moments, others not so much, but we have spent a lot of time together. However, I find it very difficult [for him] to even leave Paris.
"PSG are not going to let Neymar get taken away."

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner also still harbours hope of a future reunion with Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola, now in charge at Manchester City, has previously claimed his only route back to Barca would be as a youth coach, but Messi would appreciate the opportunity to play under the Catalan once more.
"Although it is difficult, I would like to work with Guardiola again," he said.
"He is one of the best coaches in the world. That's why I would like [him to come back], but I'm telling you that I see it as complicated."

SportsMan Utd's New Manager? Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Profiled by Rico96(op): 6:05pm On Dec 18, 2018
Reportedly in line to succeed Jose Mourinho, the former Old Trafford striker is loved by fans and has been coaching since 2008
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the favourite to take charge of Manchester United following the departure of Jose Mourinho from Old Trafford.
The Portuguese’s reign came to an end on Tuesday following a 3-1 loss to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday , with the Red Devils left sixth in the Premier League having made their worst start in 28 years, a massive 11 points short of the top four.
A surprising void has appeared at the helm of the first team, and while names such as Zinedine Zidane and Laurent Blanc have been tipped to fill it, Solskjaer leads the race for command, with the 45-year-old set to take charge until at least the end of the season.

WHAT IS SOLSKJAER’S MANAGERIAL RECORD?

Solskjaer has been a manager in his own right since 2011, when he took charge of Molde, though he has never experienced a job anything like the magnitude of Manchester United.
He does have experience working in the backroom of the Old Trafford club, however. After retiring from the professional game, Sir Alex Ferguson gave him a role as the striker coach and a year later he was put in charge of the reserve team.
It was at Molde, though, that he first cut his teeth in a managerial role. He started in an inauspicious fashion, going down to a 3-0 defeat to newly promoted Sarpsborg in his first match in charge, but the first season proved to be a success as he led the club to the league title for the first time in their history – quite a way to mark their centenary year.
He proved to be in no rush to return to England, turning down the opportunity to manage Aston Villa in 2012.
“I have said for a long time that I have ambitions to be a Premier League manager, but I haven't been chasing after any jobs,” the former striker told the media at the time.
Although another Tippeligaen title followed, the following season proved difficult and Molde finished in a disappointing sixth place.
It was at this juncture he finally elected to move to the Premier League as he replaced Malky Mackay as Cardiff manager.
“I feel lucky to be back in the Premier League. I had to have a talk about it with the family obviously but it is a great opportunity,” he told the media.
He was not, however, in the top flight for long as he was unable to save the Blues from relegation. Indeed, their fortunes deteriorated under his charge as they fell from 16th to bottom, earning only 12 points from 18 matches, while conceding 42 times and scoring only 17.
Cardiff persisted for a time, but a 1-0 loss to Middlesbrough that left them 15th in the Championship saw him sacked in September 2014.
In 2015, he returned to Molde and has enjoyed steady form back in Norway, with a couple of second place finishes in the Eliteserien.
On December 3, he signed a three-year contract extension with the club, stating: “I’ve never hidden that I enjoy being here and am pleased to continue developing the team. We’ve moved to the top of the table slowly but surely, and I was to see further development and improvement over the next few years in pursuit of trophies and European football.”

WHAT DID SOLSKJAER ACHIEVE AS A PLAYER?

Solskjaer is a face already well known to Manchester United fans due to the tremendous success he enjoyed in 11 years as a player for the club.
He joined the Red Devils in July 1996, aged 23, for a fee of around £1.5 million and proved a roaring success at a time when he was an unknown quantity outside of his native Norway, where he had excelled by scoring 31 goals in 42 top-flight games for Molde, including a hat-trick on his home debut against Viking.
During his 11 years at Old Trafford, ‘the Baby-Faced Assassin’ became known as one of the Premier League’s great super subs.
Indeed, he holds the record for goals scored as a replacement for a single Premier League team, having tallied 17 in total during his career – a mark subsequently equalled by Olivier Giroud when he was at Arsenal.
Undoubtedly his most impressive outing in this regard was scoring four off the bench in a single game against Nottingham Forest in an 8-1 win during the 1998-99 season, although his most memorable contribution is written large in the club’s history as he scored the injury-time goal that claimed the 1999 Champions League final with a 2-1 win over Bayern Munich.
During his time at Old Trafford, he played 359 times for United and scored 123, while his loyalty to the club made him a firm fans’ favourite. He won six Premier League titles and two FA Cups at Old Trafford, as well as the European Cup.
He also turned out 67 times for Norway and scored 23 goals, featuring at World Cup 1998 and Euro 2000.
As one of his country’s greatest ever players, he was honoured with the Knight of the Order of St. Olav, First Class – the highest award possible.
SportsMessi, Pjanic Or Neymar? Top 15 Free-kick Scorers Of Last Five Years by Rico96(op): 3:13pm On Dec 14, 2018
The Barcelona and Juventus stars bring an extra dimension to their teams' play with a stunning talent for converting even the most difficult attempts

It is a testament to Lionel Messi's ability with the dead ball that any free-kick on the edge of the opposition area has Barcelona fans on the edge of their seats ready to celebrate.

The Argentine is one of the world's top exponents of one of football's trickiest arts, and just seems to be getting better in that respect, as he showed with two stunning efforts to down Espanyol in a one-sided derby victory for the Catalans last weekend.

It was the first time the Blaugrana captain had ever netted two in the same game and took his overall Liga tally to 19 since 2013-14.

However, Messi, who honed his technique under the legendary Diego Maradona , is far from the only dead-ball specialist in the game right now.

Indeed, Juventus alone have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to free-kick takers, with Cristiano Ronaldo's summer arrival at the club having only added to their remarkably long list of options.

The Portuguese now battles for the ball with Miralem Pjanic and Paulo Dybala every time the Bianconeri earn a free in a dangerous position.
In fact, Serie A has no lack of talent from dead-ball situations. Milan's Hakan Calhanoglu too is every bit a match for Pjanic, and is currently tied with Juve's Bosnian maestro for free-kick goals over the last five seasons in Europe's 'Big Five' leagues.

1 Lionel Messi Barcelona 19
2 Miralem Pjanic Juventus 12
3 Hakan Calhanoglu Milan 12
4 Paulo Dybala Juventus 9
5 Daniel Wass Valencia 8
6 Daniel Parejo Valencia 8
7 Aleksandr Kolarov Roma 7
8 Cristiano Ronaldo Juventus 7
9 Juan Mata Manchester United 6
10 Enis Bardhi Levante 6
11 James Rodriguez Bayern 6
12 Marvin Plattenhardt Hertha 6
13 Neymar PSG 6
14 Andrea Pirlo Retired 6
15 Alexis Sanchez Manchester United 6

A little further down the list we find Neymar, who, it is somewhat surprising to learn, has only punished six fouls in La Liga and Ligue 1 since arriving in Europe from Santos in 2013.
Although, as an interesting aside, it seems the Brazilian saves his best efforts for Europe: no player, not even Messi, can match his sparkling Champions League record of five free-kick goals from just 17 attempts.

And fans of hulking defenders who are also adept at smashing in from long range are well-represented by Aleksandr Kolarov. The former Manchester City man, now at Roma, has managed no less than eight, giving him a place in the top 10.

Even Andrea Pirlo features, despite leaving Juventus for MLS at the end of the 2014-15 season.

But the numbers do not lie: Messi's reputation as the best in the business is fully earned.
