Saturday’s Africa Women Cup of Nations final showed the undoubtable superiority of Nigeria on the continent as much as it signaled an imminent end to a sprawling hegemony. After 120 minutes of scoreless action against a plucky South Africa at the Accra Sports Stadium, the Super Falcons strutted their unrivalled pedigree in the women’s game, showing up when it mattered most to steal a 4-3 triumph. It wasn’t a ‘beautiful’ win; no, that was certainly not flawless. It wasn’t one of those games where the West Africans, as per pre-match prognostications, cruised with authority, teased in display, balled in aplomb and in the end sign-off with a matching score-line to remind all of how unplayable they are. It wasn’t one of those! For most people, South Africa were the best team at Ghana 2018 and deserved to win. They came into the tournament as the best prepared side and put an exhibition that showed how much work they have put in. Indeed the 1-0 opening day victory over Nigeria in the group stage was the first sign of an imminent all-new dynasty. It wasn’t just a game Nigeria looked lost, but also a match in which Banyana Banyana did everything right. Thembi Kgatlana’s 85th-minute strike was just the icing on the cake. Then Desiree Ellis’s outfit moved on to 7-1 thrashing of Equatorial Guinea to show that the first game was no fluke. Against Zambia in their final group fixture, all the Banyana Banyana needed was a draw to qualify as Group B leaders. The 1-1 draw against the Shepolopolo put SA on course for a maiden trophy, even if they missed out on three points for the first time in Ghana. After a 2-0 win over Mali in the semis, a result which confirmed South Africa for a historic qualification for the Fifa Women’s World Cup, the dream of gold appeared well and truly on course. Nigeria, meanwhile, drove themselves back into the race with a 6-1 thrashing of Equatorial Guinea, going on to hand Zambia a 4-0 defeat to qualify as group runners-up. The drudgery of their semi-final penalty win over Cameroon only suggested that winning a record ninth title was going to cost a lot more sweat and blood than usual. Indeed South Africa had every chance to kill off the final even before the end of 90 minutes; with a high defensive line and a high-pressing approach, Banyana had total control of the opening 25 minutes, restricting Nigeria to occasional forays. Jermaine Seoposenwe saw a shot saved jut under one minute, Mamello Makhabane’s effort was pushed away before Kgatlana’s shot in extra time was collected by Tochukwu Oluehi. When Asisat Oshoala spurned a 76th minute penalty, it appeared as though Banyana Banyana were destined for a first hurrah. However, Nigeria showed their big-game power, the spirit, the needed character – all just enough to force the game into penalties. At that point, the game was anyone’s for the taking, but it was always going to play into the hands of the Super Falcons, for they have seen this situation one too many. It was familiar territory. Not even Onome Ebi’s missed first kick was going to stand in their way. As Lebogang Ramalepe and Linda Motlhalo missed their kicks for South Africa, Nigeria showed once again their prowess – that this is indeed their game, their kingdom, their rule. They did not have to play well to win it, for they knew just how much to give to win it. It was an emphasis of their power. However, there was an underlining message from South Africa – this dynasty won’t continue for long. The wall may not have fallen but its cracks have been visibly exposed. Come Congo 2020, it may not stand the fury that will be released on it. |
Venues in Paraguay and the Middle East have been mooted as potential hosts, though Boca Juniors have appealed for the match to be awarded to them Efforts to rearrange the postponed Copa Libertadores final second leg between River Plate and Boca Juniors have begun, with CONMEBOL proposing the match is played outside of Argentina. With the two teams locked at 2-2 following the first leg, Saturday's match was delayed and then postponed after River fans attacked the Boca Juniors bus , injuring a number of players. Though efforts were made to play the game the following day, it was decided that the match would be delayed further, with authorities now hopeful the game can be played on the weekend of December 8-9 . It is reported, however, that Boca are set to reject the proposals at a meeting between the two clubs in Paraguay, claiming that they should be awarded the match, and therefore the trophy, given their innocence in the events of the weekend. "It is a shame that we are in a situation like this because of some misfits," CONMEBOL chairman Alejandro Dominguez told Fox Sports . "The image that has been sent to the world is the wrong one, this is not the football that we want. "The conditions are not equal, given there is a team that was attacked. When the teams of each club enter the field, we want there to be equal conditions. We want to see a show. "We believe that we must send a signal that there are no excuses. Let the team who scores more goals on the pitch win. The board of CONMEBOL has taken the decision that there is no equality in the current conditions. "We have to provide the conditions so that both clubs have the ideal conditions for the final to be played. We will meet with the presidents of Boca and River in Asuncion to find a date and play this game." Boca have appealed to CONMEBOL's disciplinary court, and despite the confederation's proposal, the decision of that tribunal is likely to determine whether the match goes ahead or not. Should it be rescheduled, Paraguay has been reported as a likely venue while venues in the Middle East such as Doha and the UAE have been mooted given the Club World Cup begins on December 12 in Abu Dhabi. The winner of the Copa Libertadores will play in the competition alongside Real Madrid and other continental tournament winners, with the final set for December 22. Genoa has also offered to host the game, with the Italian city citing their large Argentine population as reason for it to be played there. It has not yet been determined whether any supporters will be allowed to attend any rearranged fixture given their part in the incidents that lead to the postponement and the potential security risks. |
The Pharaohs Argentine gaffer said the 26-year-old star forward may swap clubs if the Reds fail to lift a trophy “in a season or two" Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp has hit back at Egypt coach Javier Aguirre after comments the Argentine made suggesting Mohamed Salah may change clubs to win titles. Klopp responded in the same manner, asking Aguirre - who replaced Hector Cuper a poor 2018 World Cup - to dump Egypt if he does not secure a silverware in the next two years. The German tactician said in his pre-match briefing: “I would say if he [Aguirre] doesn’t win titles in the next two years he should move country! "I don't know why people say things like this. I don't agree but it's a free world and he can say whatever he wants. "I don't know why people say things like this. I don't agree but it's a free world and he can say whatever he wants." Salah joined the Reds last summer and tasted unprecendented success on the Merseyside. He scored a staggering 44 goals, bagging several individual awards as he led the Klopp's side to a top-four Premier League finish and a Uefa Champions League final spot. There had been links with Real Madrid in the past; one he responded to by signing a long-term extension with Liverpool. Prior to that, Egypt legend Mido had suggested a move to the Galacticos was best for the former Roma star , and in a week where the striker again showed his world-class quality in the Pharaohs' colours , similar words were uttered by his national team coach. “Salah may leave Liverpool in a season or two if he does not win trophies,” Aguirre told ONSport. “Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp knows that very well and that’s why they are working hard to win trophies.” Meanwhile, Salah who, for the eighth time, has been named the Best Player of the Month for Liverpool will hope to maintain his current form when Liverpool take on Watford in Saturday’s league clash. http://m.goal.com/x/en/news/8/main/2018/11/23/49569572/he-can-say-whatever-he-wants-liverpool-boss-klopp-in-swipe |
The former Borussia Dortmund striker is delighted to see a fellow countryman shining on a European stage and providing inspiration to others The exploits of Mohamed Salah at Liverpool are allowing Egyptian youngsters to dream of following in his footsteps, Mohamed Zidan has told Goal , with the 26-year-old proving to be a perfect role model. Currently starring at Anfield, Salah has graced a European stage for some time, with spells taken in at Basel, Chelsea, Fiorentina and Roma. It is since moving to Merseyside, though, that he has truly captured the attention of a global audience, with a 44-goal haul last season seeing him land countless awards and earn nominations for the FIFA Best prize and 2018 Ballon d’Or . Former Borussia Dortmund striker Zidan is delighted to see a fellow countryman gracing the very top of the game and offering inspiration to those who hope to one day follow in his footsteps. A man who earned 44 caps for Egypt in his playing days told Goal after representing a team of Dortmund legends in a friendly match against Thai side Buriram United: “Now we have a very good team with Mo Salah. “He’s representing Egyptians very well in England and Liverpool. He’s doing very good and we all support him always. “We all have his back and we always pray for him and always follow him because he is representing us as Egyptians and as Arabs. “He’s a good example, as we were before – me and other Egyptian colleagues who played in Europe, like Mido, Ahmed Hassan and many other players who played in top leagues. |
The Italian famously guided Leicester City to glory in 2015/16 and punters can now back the Cottagers at the same price after he took over in London Fulham will be hoping for a rejuvenation ahead of Claudio Ranieri’s first game in charge after the international break. The Italian replaced Slavisa Jokanovic at the helm on Tuesday after a woeful start saw the Cottagers take just five points from their first 12 games of the season, with his first fixture coming on November 24 against Southampton. There were certainly many bright points under Jokanovic and on a different day, Fulham would have got a result at Anfield instead of losing 2-0 to Liverpool, so there is still cause to be optimistic for the Craven Cottage faithful. However, William Hill offer just 4/7 (1.57) that rock bottom Fulham, who are three points from safety, are relegated this season after just one season in the Premier League. “Fulham fans will be hoping that Ranieri can steer them to safety this season but given what happened at Leicester a couple of years back, there may be a few that are starting to dream,” said William Hill’s Joe Crilly. Indeed, the Cottagers can be backed at 5000/1 (5001.0) to win the league next season – the famous price as Leicester were in 2015/16 when Ranieri was in charge of the Foxes – and there is likely to be no shortage of backers should Fulham survive this term. |

Lega Serie A has confirmed AC Milan will be without the Argentina forward for two matches after his red card against Juventus Gonzalo Higuain has been handed a two-match ban after an on-pitch meltdown following his dismissal in AC Milan's 2-0 defeat to his parent club Juventus on Sunday. Higuain endured a nightmare showing against Juve, missing a penalty before receiving his marching orders in the second half. The Argentina international had to be led off the pitch by team-mates after he reacted furiously to referee Paolo Mazzoleni's decision to show him a straight red card. Higuain was initially booked for dissent but was dismissed for persisting with his complaints to the official. Lega Serie A on Tuesday announced the 30-year-old would be forced to sit out two matches. The 30-year-old apologised to fans for the incident, but claimed that his emotions got the better of him during the game. "It seemed an unfair foul, I was fouled as far as I'm concerned. I was cautioned but I did not insult anyone," he told Milan TV . "I apologised to the club, the fans, the coach and my companions because these episodes must be avoided. "We are human, we feel emotions, the game was not going the right way and it was one of those days." Higuain's former Real Madrid team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo also came out in his defence after the match, explaining how he intervened in order to calm down the situation. "I told him to calm down, as he risked an even worse ban," Ronaldo said to Sky Sport Italia . "He didn't do much, he was annoyed at losing the game. That's understandable. I hope he is not punished too severely." The two-game ban means Higuain will miss the the trip to Lazio on November 25 and the visit of Parma a week later. |

Goal 50 winner Modric: Real Madrid going for fourth straight Champions League triumph The 33-year-old was proud to end Ronaldo and Messi’s recent duopoly on the Goal 50 trophy and is confident of Real having a great season Luka Modric has spoken of his delight after winning the 2018 Goal 50 – awarded to the world's best player of the last 12 months – and says that Real Madrid are gunning for a fourth straight Champions League trophy, despite their poor start to the season. The Croatian metronome enjoyed the best year of his brilliant career in 2018 , lifting the Champions League with his club and leading his country to the final of the World Cup in Russia. This saw him pick up a host of individual prizes, including the FIFA World Cup Golden Ball, The Best FIFA Men’s Player of 2018 and UEFA Men’s Player of the Year Award. Modric has now added the Goal 50 trophy to his growing collection of individual honours after finishing above last year’s winner, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who finished second and third, respectively. In doing so, Modric ended Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’s recent duopoly of the prize, with the Portuguese and the Argentine having claimed every Goal 50 trophy since Wesley Sneijder triumphed way back in 2010. "I am very happy to receive this award,” Modric told Goal . “I would like to thank everyone who voted for me. It is an honour to receive it, and to follow in the footsteps of these two great players. “Winning after these two makes me very happy. It is an honour for me.” A good season would surely entail winning yet another Champions League. Madrid have lifted the last three editions of club football’s biggest trophy – and four of the last five –and Modric believes that the Blancos can retain their title. http://m.goal.com/x/en/news/2466/goal-50/2018/11/13/49329382/goal-50-winner-modric-real-madrid-going-for-fourth-straight |
The elegant midfielder helped Real Madrid retain their Champions League crown before inspiring Croatia to a runners-up finish at the 2018 World Cup Luka Modric has been unveiled as the winner of the 2018 Goal 50 , thus breaking Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi's stranglehold on the prestigious annual prize. Not since Wesley Sneijder in 2010 had someone other than Ronaldo or Messi topped the list, which recognises the 50 best players in the world over the preceding 12 months. However, Modric has claimed the award after a stellar year in which the midfielder helped Real Madrid win a third consecutive Champions League before then leading Croatia to the final of the World Cup . Ronaldo, who top-scored again during the Blancos' European triumph, had been bidding to finish top of the Goal 50 for the third year in a row but the Portuguese superstar was forced to settle for second place. Liverpool and Egypt sensation Mohamed Salah claimed the final podium place, thanks in no small part to the fact that be broke the record for goals across a single Premier League season by netting 32 times during his debut campaign at Anfield. Kylian Mbappe finished fourth after lighting up Russia 2018 with a string of scintillating performances for champions France, including a decisive double against Argentina that ended Messi's hopes of World Cup glory at the last-16 stage. Messi, though, still made our top five after inspiring Barcelona to a domestic double, while his 34 goals – in just 36 Liga matches – also earned the diminutive attacker the European Golden Shoe. Elsewhere, Kevin De Bruyne was rewarded for the key role he played in Manchester City's record-breaking Premier League triumph with sixth place in the standings. The Belgium international, who played a pivotal part in his country's third-placed finish in Russia, finished just ahead of this year's highest-ranked defender, Real and France centre-half Raphael Varane, who, this summer, became only the fourth player in history to win both the Champions League and the World Cup in the same year. The prolific Tottenham and England striker Harry Kane came home in eighth place thanks to his Golden Boot success in Russia, with Antoine Griezmann ninth on the back of his contribution to France's World Cup triumph, and Real left-back Marcelo rounding off the top 10 after scoring in every knockout round before racking up two assists in the Champions League final. |
Most football fans will understand what is meant when a player is said to have scored a hat-trick, but what are the roots of the word? Scoring goals is the chief aim of any striker, but there is a particular satisfaction to be gained by scoring a hat-trick. Such is the difficulty of actually putting the ball into the back of the net that the achievement of a hat-trick is uniquely lauded. The term itself has origins in the 19th century and it is now a common feature of football's everyday lexicon. Goal takes a look at the what it means, when it first came into use, records and more. What is a hat-trick? The term 'hat-trick' is used when a player achieves the feat of scoring three goals in a single game. Goals do not need to be scored in succession and it does not matter whether they are scored during normal regulation time or extra time. Due to the relative rarity of the feat, it has become tradition for players who score a hat-trick of goals to be given the match ball as a symbolic reward or memento. When a player has scored two goals in a game - which is sometimes known as 'a brace' - they are often described as being "on a hat-trick" due to the fact that another goal will complete a hat-trick. In Italy, a hat-trick is described as a tripletta and in France it is known as a coup du chapeau or triplé . Interestingly, the English term hat-trick tends to be used in Germany and Spain. What is a "perfect hat-trick"? In football, a "perfect hat-trick" can be achieved by scoring one goal with the right foot, one goal with the left foot and one goal with the head. Why is it called a hat-trick? Nowadays, the term 'hat-trick' is widely used across a variety of sports, but it is believed to have originated in cricket. According to the Oxford English Dictionary , it was first used in 1858 after English cricketer H.H. Stephenson took three wickets in three consecutive deliveries during a game between an all-England team and Hallam. A collection was held afterwards, with money being placed into a hat before being presented to Stephenson. There are also connotations associated with the practice of magicians conjuring unexpected items from a hat |

The Catalan wanted to sign the Chilean throughout last summer and in January but pulled out of the deal as it emerged he was open to joining United Pep Guardiola has congratulated Alexis Sanchez on his impending move to Manchester United, insisting the Chilean and his agent have "decided what is the best for them". It has been widely reported that Alexis will earn anything between £300,000-per-week and £500,000-per-week at Old Trafford, but Guardiola was not prepared to discuss the financial aspect of the deal. "I am not the guy with the mathematics, the numbers," he said. "At the end what I know is he is still at Arsenal, I think he will go to United. Congratulations to both of them, the players and his agents decide where they want to play, good luck." Alexis had agreed a deal to join City on two separate occasions during 2017 - last spring and before Christmas - but Guardiola insists he does not feel let down. "I repeat, the players and their managers decide what's best for both," he said. "There's nothing to add. My opinion of Alexis remains the same. It was always a pleasure to be with him in Barcelona. He has decided to join another club and we wish him all the best." Speaking generally about January transfers, the Catalan added: "I believe in it if the players adapt quickly and have quality. It depends if they are nice people. We are looking for nice people to come to help if we believe we need them." http://m.goal.com/x/en/news/8/main/2018/01/19/41867122/guardiola-congratulates-alexis-on-impending-man-utd-move |

The 39-year-old goalkeeping icon has been rewarded for leading Juventus to a domestic double, as well as the Champions League final Italy and Juventus captain Gianluigi Buffon has claimed second place in the 2017 Goal 50. The goalkeeping icon turned 39 in January but has enjoyed a stellar 12 months, winning another league-and-cup double with the Bianconeri, whom he also led to the final of the Champions League. Of course, Buffon - who remains the world's most expensive goalkeeper 16 years after his €52 million transfer from Parma to Turin - was left heartbroken after Juve's loss to Real Madrid in Cardiff but there was nothing he could have done about his side's 4-1 defeat. The Carrara native had played a pivotal role in the Old Lady reaching the final by going 600 minutes without conceding a goal in the Champions League - a new personal best - before Kylian Mbappe's strike for Monaco in the second leg of the semi-finals. In addition, Buffon's performance in a 1-0 win for a 10-man Juve over Lyon in the group stage was immediately lauded as one of the finest of his career, thus silencing the critics who had written him off. "I love it when they celebrate your funeral," he enthused on the night on which he saved a penalty from Alexandre Lacazette, "and then you show them that you're still alive." Meanwhile, a sixth successive Serie A title took Buffon's overall tally to eight, moving him level with Virginio Rosetta, Giovanni Ferrari, and Giuseppe Furino as the players with the most Scudetti in the history of Italian football. Second place also represents his highest ever ranking in the Goal 50, with his previous best having been a 16th-place finish in 2015. But who denied 'San Gigi' top spot? Lionel Messi? Cristiano Ronaldo? Neymar? All will be revealed when the final Goal 50 list is published at 1200 UK time on Tuesday. http://m.goal.com/x/en/news/2466/goal-50/2017/11/13/40201312/buffon-named-as-worlds-second-best-player |
Abuja – The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said that as far as Federal Government appointments to public offices and key positions are concerned, the era of “godfatherism’’ is over. The minister stated this in Abuja on Sunday at a thanksgiving reception by the newly appointed Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Culture, Ms Grace Gekpe. Mohammed, who was represented by Mr Bayo Onanuga, the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), stated that appointment to positions in the Federal Government “is strictly by merit’’. “Gone are those days when people were appointed into positions by other factors apart from merit. “Most of us must have heard that the new permanent secretaries were asked to write examination; Gekpe was one of the very few that scaled through the examination. Gekpe is a shining and beautiful woman. That could have earned her the appointment, but not under this regime of Change. “She is a permanent secretary by virtue of hard work, merit and because she has a lot of things to offer,’’ he said. The minister said that the ministry was proud of Gekpe, satisfied with her appointment and wished her all the best. Mohammed underscored the need for improved funding for the Ministry of Information and Culture and its parastatal agencies. “The Ministry of Information and Culture has a very big responsibility and there is the need for sufficient funding for it and its agencies. “The government is doing a lot of things, but it is being misrepresented by naysayers. “This is the time that the government needed to raise an army of competent information managers to counter the false and negative narratives about the administration,’’ he said. He also underscored the need for upward review of the retirement age of journalists working in the Ministry of Information. “They are like judges and university professors; like old wine, they get better with age,’’ he added. The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita, said the position of permanent secretary “is the highest level any civil servant can dream to reach in the public service’’. She enjoined Gekpe to present her life and tenure to God for wisdom and guidance and as well show understanding and loyalty to her minister and the administration. Oyo-Ita said: “She is called to serve the nation and in doing this, she should face her duties with dignity, integrity and understanding that this is a government of change, it cannot be business as usual. “She has to be an epitome of incorruptibility, she should be efficient, productive, and be a citizen centred- permanent secretary’’. In a brief remark, Gekpe said her appointment was a call to serve the country. She pledged to discharge her responsibilities with the fear of God and in support of the government’s programmes. “I will put in my best to assist my immediate boss, the minister, and the government at large to achieve the agenda set for the country,’’ she said. NAN reports that a thanksgiving service was held at the Living Faith Church, Jahi District, before the reception. The event was attended by heads of parastatals and agencies in the Ministry of Information and Culture and representatives of the Government of Cross River. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/09/fg-appointments-era-godfatherism-lai-mohammed/ |

ABUJA-The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Concerned Youths’ Forum yesterday tasked the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee (NCC), Senator Buruji Kashamu and Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah to close ranks in the overall interest of the PDP. The Forum stated the PDP cannot afford another round of internal strife few weeks after the Supreme Court laid to rest the leadership tussle that almost reduced the party to ruins. It will be recalled that the NCC recently slammed one-month suspension on Uba, who had threatened to sue the party over the August 28, Anambra State governorship primary, as an aspirant, citing irregularities and a lack of transparency. The committee also queried Kashamu and referred him to the National Disciplinary Committee for further action over “anti-party activities.” While addressing newsmen yesterday, in Abuja, National President of the Forum, Nafiu Yunusa Mai Salati called on the Makarfi-led committee to invite the two politicians to a roundtable meeting. The forum noted that Senator Buruji remained the most visible mobiliser and financier of the PDP in the South-West and counselled the caretaker committee to encourage him to sustain the effort. ”We need calm in the PDP this time. It’s time for sober reflection. We have gone through deep legal challenges and came out of it. What we need now is for our leaders and members to close ranks. “Dialogue is key because politics is a game of numbers; so we need to exercise caution in taking certain decisions. PDP at the moment needs more members into its fold; people with profound political pedigree who can propel it to victory again,” he said. Mai Salati further urged the party to take its mobilization efforts to the grass roots who he said kept faith with the party through its the 14-month turbulence of a protracted legal battle. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/09/2019-pdp-youths-charge-ncc-kashamu-ubah-close-ranks/ |
Pretty and sexy actress, singer and beauty therapist, Chesan Nze may have opened a can of worms many of her peers wouldn’t dare to attempt by declaring in an interview with Potpourri that she can never date a Ghanaian man. Her reason? “They are a very lazy lot,” she said . As down-to-earth as she could be, Chesan, who is currently studying at Zenith College in Ghana opined that even though Nigerian men are not so romantic but dating a Ghanaian is out of the question for her. “Ghanaian men are lazy, the only thing they do is sit at home, and the lady goes out to get the money to feed their sick ass. They can’t spend their one kobo on women, they are only good in bed, based on what my friends told me, but not hardworking, I cannot date a Ghanaian,” she stated emphatically. Chesan Nze, started acting as a child but professionally in 2014 and has also appeared in some Ghanaian movies. Some electricity consumers in Alagbado area, Lagos have appealed to the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) to end the challenges of estimated billing system in the area. The residents told newsmen on Saturday in Lagos that the billing system was affecting their pockets negatively. Mr Akeem Balogun, Chairman of Landlord Association in Alagbado, said that residents would not be able to pay for such bills because they are unacceptable in the face of interrupted service by IKEDC. ”We can no longer continue to suffer and pretend as if all is well as regard the crazy bills,” he said. Balogun said that the IKEDC office in Fola Azeez, Alakuko directed residents to its office in Ikeja to meet higher officers that may address their grievances. He alleged that the marketing officers at Fola Azeez refused to listen to them about the estimated bills. ”We are pushed to the wall as the crazy bills was gradually killing us and making life difficult.” Mr Fatal Ogundairo, a welder, said that estimated billing system was driving them out of business. Ogundairo said that they had to look for alternative ways of generating electricity for their business. ”We cannot continue like this because we have family that are looking up to us for their daily living,” he said. Another resident, Mr Kunle Oyetunji, urged the management of IKEDC to find lasting solution to the problems of estimated bills by making pre-paid meter available for the people. ”Bringing estimated bills for the people without reading the meter is just uncalled for and unreasonable. “We do not see the reason IKEDC cannot brace up for this kind of challenge by providing pre-paid meters because they knew that this will put stop to all their crazy bills,” Oyetunji, a civil servant said. Mr Felix Ofulue, the Head of Corporate Communications of IKEDC, said that the company bill customers according to what they use. He noted that the amount they charged customers depends on the hours of light enjoyed, adding that the company would soon provide pre-paid meters to all customers in the area. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/09/alagbado-residents-task-ikedc-estimated-billing/ |

The Globacom-promoted Mega Music Nationwide Tour which is scheduled to go round 27 cities in Nigeria will this week enter the big Festival Town known as FESTAC Town. The town was named after the Festival of Arts and Culture which took place in 1977 and gathered all of Africa for a cultural celebration. The FESTAC concert will feature the biggest stars in the industry including Olamide, Flavour, Phyno, Timaya, Kiss Daniel, Di’Ja and Reekado Banks. DJ Neptune will be the disc jockey at the event which will hold at the pristine Golden Tulip Hotel. Globacom will bring some of its brand Ambassadors as celebrity guests – the likes of Mercy Johnson-Okojie and Juliet Ibrahim who will anchor the show, and Odunlade Adekola, Patience Ozokwor and Richard Mofe-Damijo who will be celebrity guests and will interact with the audience. In a statement issued on Friday, the firm explained that the show is free to all subscribers as long as they use up to N2,000 a month for data or voice. Glo counseled the subscribers to send SMS “MUSIC FESTAC” to the short code 207″. According to the statement, those who have not used up to N2,000 before the event day can also be part of the fun by recharging the lines with N2,000 or more at the venue. They will then receive tickets which will admit them into the concert hall. So far, the Glo Mega Music Nationwide Tour which debuted in April 2017 has been to 22 cities including Awka, Aba, Asaba; Calabar; Port Harcourt; Ajah; Victoria Island; Benin, Ekpoma; Owerri; Ibadan; Ikeja; Abuja; Abeokuta; Ijebu Ode; Akure; Enugu; Suleja; Kaduna; Kubwa; Lokoja and Makurdi before landing in the bubbly melting pot enclave of FESTAC. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/09/glo-takes-brand-ambassadors-others-festac-concert/ |
