Charge Metuh to court if you have evidence of fraud
against him, Fayose tells Buhari
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has
challenged President Mohammadu Buhari to direct
the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC) to charge the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa
Metuh to court if the commission was sure of
evidences of fraud against him, saying; “the EFCC
appears to be operating a system in which an
accused person is first arrested, detained endlessly
while the anti-corruption agency goes about looking
for evidence.” Governor Fayose, who maintained his support for a genuine fight against corruption, challenged the EFCC to also act on petitions submitted to it against All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains and President Buhari’s election sponsors. Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose cautioned that nothing untoward must happen to Metuh, adding that the APC’s desperation to decimate and silence the opposition has dragged the Buhari-led government in the mud of lawlessness. The governor said; “In saner climes, you don’t arrest people for alleged fraud and start to look for evidence to prosecute them. Rather, before you arrest anyone for fraud, anti-corruption agencies must have established a prima facie case and arresting the suspect will only be to enable for his or her arraignment in court. “However, what we are witnessing in Nigeria today is a situation whereby the EFCC will arrest PDP leaders, humiliate them by subjecting them to media trial, detain them for weeks in the process of trying to force them to make statements during which the commission will be looking for evidence. “For instance, in the case of Metuh, we are being told that the EFCC is insisting that he must write statements and one begins to wonder if it has now become mandatory for an accused to write statements in law enforcement agent’s custody. Shouldn’t the EFCC have simply charged Metuh to court based on its own evidence? Or is Metuh’s statement the evidence the EFCC requires to prosecute him? “The international community, especially the United Nations (UN), African Union (AU), European Union (EU) and others are put on notice on this condemnable act of arresting and detaining opposition leaders by agents of the Buhari-led government before fishing for evidence. While challenging the President Buhari to extend his anti-corruption crusade to those who sponsored his election, Governor Fayose said; any anti-corruption effort that targets only members of the opposition and those with axe to grind with the government of the day can never succeed. “If President Buhari did not wait for any petition to move against PDP chieftains, asking people to come forward with allegations of corruption against APC chieftains, especially those who sponsored President Buhari’s election is clearly hypocritical. “Most importantly, that the EFCC Acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu even said the commission do not have any petition against APC chieftains when indeed there are loads of petitions against ministers serving in Buhari’s government and other notable APC chieftains goes to show the hypocrisy of the fight against corruption. “It is even more hypocritical and anti-democratic for the President to have turned himself to the accuser, prosecutor and judge, carrying on as if those he accused of corruption have already been convicted,” the governor said. |

wrote this beautiful piece.
Read and be blessed. Sometimes you are unsatisfied with your life, while many people in this world are dreaming of living your life. A child on a farm sees a plane fly overhead and dreams of flying. But, a pilot on the plane sees the farmhouse and dreams of returning home. That's life!! Enjoy yours. If wealth is the secret to happiness, then the rich should be dancing on the streets. But only poor kids do that. If power ensures security, then officials should walk unguarded. But those who live simply, sleep soundly. If beauty and fame bring ideal relationships, then celebrities should have the best marriages. But those who live simply, walk humbly and love genuinely! All good will come back to you!!! Man asks, “Where was God when Myles Munroe, wife and his associates were killed in a crash? He answers, "The same place I sat when John the Baptist my servant was beheaded. When Stephen my servant was stoned to death. When Paul my servant was murdered in Rome. The same place I sat when my only Son was brutally crucified, wounded, bruised and killed. I have not moved from my position." I am the same. It is not the means of exit from earth that matters but the destination. Live simply. It's all about God!!

GROUP PETITIONS EFCC, SEEKS PROBE OF NYESOM WIKE OVER ALLEGED EDUCATION FRAUD: The group wants the anti-corruption commission to investigate its allegations. The Civil Society Network Against Corruption (CSNAC) has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over the alleged corrupt practices of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of State for Education. The petition also urged the commission to investigate Ahmed Mohammed, former Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education, UBEC. During Mr. Mohammed’s 12 year tenure as Executive Secretary of UBEC and National Teachers Institute, NTI, the duo mismanaged over N50 billion fund allocated to primary education, the group said, quoting a 2012 article by an online publication (not PREMIUM TIMES). The report also indicted Ruqayyatu Rufai, the Education Minister, according to the petition signed by Olanrewaju Suraju, CSNAC’s Chairman. According to the petition, while in NTI, Mr. Mohammed appointed his wife Aishatu, as principal consultant, and through the position mismanaged over N3.3 billion from the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) grants assigned to the office. “The contract for the building of Almajiri schools and supply of textbooks was alleged to have been allocated to the front of Chief Wike, which is clearly in conflict of interest with regards to his position as Minister of state at Federal Ministry of Education. “Mr. Wike also allegedly coerced principals of federal government colleges across the country to remit 40% – an increment from 15% – of their allocated funds,” the petition said. “This implies that out of the N16,706,314,319.00 quarterly allocation to federal schools in 2012, a return of about N6.68billion naira went to Mr. Wike,” the petition added. “By virtue of his position as Minister of State at the Ministry of Education, Mr. Wike manages all the Federal Government Secondary Schools and its within his authority and power to discharge and transfer school principals (he can sack them without pension or access to other accumulated gratuities). “With the awareness of the power Mr. Wike wields, the principals are afraid to blow the whistle for fear of losing their jobs.” The group noted that Mr. Wike, while serving as Chief of Staff of Rivers State government, was arrested by the EFCC over allegations of embezzlement and money laundering of over N2.5 billion. “The details of the prosecution are yet to see light of the day,” it said. CSNAC urged the anti graft agency to carry out a “thorough investigation” of Messrs Wike and Mohammed and prosecute them if found culpable. "Both (Mr. Mohammed) and Mr. Wike are known to spend lavishly and own properties worth billions of naira. These men have been public officers all their lives and it is irreconcilable the kind of lavish lifestyles otherwise displayed by this officers,” CSNAC continued in their petition. “Education is the cornerstone of the development of any nation. Where funds appropriated to these institutions of learning are allowed to be misappropriated and the offenders left to go scot free we are inevitably building a nation where illiteracy and underdevelopment will thrive. “The recent Boko Haram crisis is traceable to the dearth of basic education as one of the causal factors.”PREMIUM TIMES # WAR...OOO START# NO RETREAT NO SURRENDER Visit: http://billchristianreportersworldwide..com.ng/2016/01/group-petitions-efcc-seeks-probe-of.html?m=1 |

Is Governor Fayose Missing ??Where Is Governor Fayose? Tongues are wagging as to the whereabouts of controversial Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, who has not been seen or heard of since he reportedly travelled to Dubai on Sunday December 27, 2015. The trip in itself was controversial before he jetted out as the opposition political party in the state, the APC, alleged that the governor was travelling with nothing less than N250 million believed to be Ekiti State Government's money, which the governor's media aides denied. Hardly had he settled down in his Dubai hotel than the edifice was gutted by fire. Eye witness accounts stated that Fayose and others were rescued from the inferno but he was injured in the process and is presently recuperating in a Dubai hospital. Another account has it that Fayose has been arrested in Dubai for alleged money laundering, but The Monitors is yet to confirm this story. There is yet another version of Fayose's disappearance, which states that he is jittery because of the outcome of the Army Board of Inquiry in Kaduna over the Ekitigate saga. Therefore, there are insinuations that Fayose is hiding in Dubai and watching events before he knows his next move. Another source states that Fayose has left Dubai for India to seek medical attention. In all of these stories, one thing that is sure is that the whereabouts of Governor Fayose who was expected back in the state Sunday evening is still unknown. Governor Fayose's convoy came back from the airport without the Governor on Monday where he was expected to join the traditional interdenominational New Year prayer at the Government House on Monday morning. Fayose was represented by the Deputy Governor. The convoy again came back empty on Tuesday and Wednesday without any communication from the governor about his movement. As tongues are wagging about the whereabouts of the controversial governor, the question remains: where is Governor Fayose? The Monitors will keep you posted about further developments.
