All Progressives Congress (APC ) leaders are backing Ahmed Lawan, Femi Gbajabiamila, George Akume and five others as principal officers of the National Assembly, The Nation learnt last night .
The party has adopted the lists submitted to it by The Unity Forum ( Senate) and The Loyalists ( House of Representatives ) to heal the wounds and reconcile all after the June 9 controversial elections .
This has put pressure on Senate President Bukola Saraki and House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara .
It was learnt that more than 12 members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC ) supported the candidates recommended by The Unity Forum and The Loyalists.
Those recommended by the party as principal officers in the Senate are Lawan(Majority Leader ); Prof. Sola Adeyeye( Chief Whip ); Sen. George Akume( Deputy Majority Leader); and Sen . Abu Ibrahim (Deputy Chief Whip) .
The list for the House of Representatives has Gbajabiamila( House Leader ); Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa ( Deputy House Leader); M . T . Monguno ( Chief Whip ) and Hon. Pally Iriase (Deputy Chief Whip ).
A source said : “ Most members of the NWC and leaders of the APC are fully in support of the lists from the Unity Forum and The Loyalists. We need to heal wounds and move forward .
“ It will only be fair and just if the aggrieved legislators are allowed to choose among themselves the principal officers .”
The leaderships of the two groups generated lists which they sent to the APC National Chairman , who is expected to send them to the Senate President.
Asked if the lists are binding on Saraki and Dogara , the source said : “ They have no discretion in the matter; they must abide by it if they are really loyal party members .
“ It is the responsibility of the party to recommend these principal officers . In 2011, we were told that the President of the 7 th Senate, Chief David Mark was not going to work with Akume as minority leader but the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria insisted on Akume. ” None of the officers of the party was willing to speak with the press last night.
For the first time after the crisis of confidence erupted among APC Senators Saraki and Lawan met at Oyegun ’s residence to explore the possibility of reconciliation.
A top source , who spoke in confidence, said after Oyegun sued for reconciliation , Saraki and Lawan were asked to retire into a room for “ frank talks.”
The source said : “We were all happy that Saraki and Lawan agreed to hold a tête -à -tête for the first time and we waited with bated breath for what they will agree upon . http://thenationonlineng.net/new/apc-backs-lawan-akume-gbajabiamila-for-top-posts/ |

A suit on the alleged refusal to pay for services rendered by a company duly engaged to broadcast a campaign message for Dr. Goodluck Jonathan during the last presidential election has commenced.
The Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has assigned to court No. 37 in Kuje a suit in respect of which the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Director-General of Presidential Campaign Organisation, Ahmadu Ali, and a former Minister of Finance and Director of Finance of President Goodluck Jonathan’s Presidential Campaign Organisation, Senator Nenadi Usman were sued.
The company, Silon Concepts Limited, in a suit filed before the court, alleged that Ali and Usman, who served as the Director-General and Director of Finance in ex-President Jonathan’s campaign organisation respectively, have refused to pay an outstanding N70million balance for a campaign contract awarded it by the PDP presidential campaign organisation.
The company averred that it was engaged to provide “voice SMS campaign broadcast,” of ex-President Jonathan’s campaign message which it sent to eligible voters on behalf of the PDP former presidential candidate before the March 28 presidential poll.
The plaintiff to the company, in a letter signed on behalf the Festus Keyamo’s Chamber by Bala Dakum, in a statement monday said the defendants were unwilling to pay the N70million balance of the N100million contract sum.
Keyamo, along others urged the court to compel the defendants to pay the outstanding sum of N70m and additional N15m as the cost of the suit plus an annual interest rate of 10 per cent on the sum of N70m until the said sum is fully liquidated.
It claimed that it successfully executed the project with continued assurance from the defendants that the balance would be made available in no distant time.
The plaintiff, stated in the statement of claim that the PDP only paid N20 million as initial payment instead of seed money of N100m to kick start the project as agreed and that the ex-Finance Minister, Senator Nenadi Usman paid the N20 million through a Zenith Bank cheque in the name of a company, Jointrust Dimension Nigeria Limited with account number 1010740698, whose account Senator Usman serves as the sole signatory. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/court-commences-case-against-jonathan-s-campaign-team/212875/ |

damilareoye: to start with, runs don't work in Unilorin hence, if someone promise runs I will count it as a scam. Okay, good. yeah, connection do works. am very sure of that but not to worry because their is a list called merit list. once your score merit the cut off mark, you sure do have a chance of gaining admission. …Can you please lay emphasy on score, I mean the cut off mark Your choice of course to study also have a role to play because some courses are of higher demand than the others No wonder you tend to see a person scoring higher mark than his subordinate but the admission favour the latter due to choice of course. Hmmmm...danger looms oo. I'm going for finance and banking, and surely the course is of higher demand documents are o'level result(s) DE statement of result/certificate state of origin You mean, those for registration? |

damilareoye: firstly, my state of origin is kwara state nevertheless, in terms of admitting students into the institution, they do consider the catchment area. secondly,I can't give specific figure of students admitted through D.E last year and it varies but in my department, students admitted through D.E are between 20 to 25 Well, I am also from kwara state, I have my Cert. of origin. What other things do I need?
Is it a must for one to have strong connection in unilorin before ones admission can be certain? or is a must for one to pay for runs in other to get admitted?
Thanks in advance. |

Politics › ‘Nigeria Police Still Operating On 1949 Structure’ by Rilwayne001(op): 3:55pm On Jun 22, 2015 |
A former Chairman of the Nigerian chapter of Transparency International, Maj. Gen. Ishola Williams (retd), has said the Nigeria police is still operating on its 1949 structure, hence its inability to provide security for elections in the country.
He therefore called for the scrapping of the Ministry of Police Affairs and canvassed for the placement of the force under the Ministry of Interior for effective supervision.
Speaking at a post-election management review organised by the CLEEN Foundation on Monday in Abuja, the retired military officer said it was not right for the National Security Adviser and the military to be involved in election security, stressing that this is not part of their business.
He said, “If well structured, Nigeria would have no problems with elections. States should organise their own polls, what is the business of INEC organising governorship elections? The Nigeria police is still based on 1949 structure and that is why it cannot provide election security.
“The Police affairs ministry should be scrapped and the Force placed under the interior ministry. It should have a Director-General in charge of intelligence and general investigation.”
Williams insisted that the Independent National Electoral Commission erred by involving the NSA and soldiers in the 2015 polls, noting that in Ghana, for instance, there is a security coordinating committee that handles election security.
“In Ghana, they have the security coordinating committee which oversees election security; the NSA should not be involved (in elections) at all. When I saw their budget running into billions, I just shook my head and wondered what they are doing with such amount of money,” Williams stated.
According to him, the allegations of rigging that trailed Ekiti and Osun governorship elections should not have happened, noting that the deployment of soldiers for the polls should not have been done since other security agencies were available to assist the police in supervising the election.
Williams’ submission was however countered by Prof. Okey Ibeanu from INEC, who argued that the electoral agency had a basis in law for allowing the military to take part in election security.
He also defended the NSA’s involvement in the elections, stressing that its role was to coordinate the advisory from the various security agencies in the country, noting that the deployment of soldiers was to deter political thugs from disrupting the polls.
The Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, said there is a lot to be done in terms of organisation and securing the electoral process, adding that “this is the time to start planning for 2019 and other staggered elections like the governorship polls in Bayelsa, Edo, Ondo, Osun and Kogi States.” http://www.punchng.com/news/nigeria-police-still-operating-on-1949-structure/ |
