secondly,I can't give specific figure of students admitted through D.E last year and it varies but in my department, students admitted through D.E are between 20 to 25

A former Chairman of the Nigerian chapter of
Transparency International, Maj. Gen. Ishola Williams
(retd), has said the Nigeria police is still operating on
its 1949 structure, hence its inability to provide
security for elections in the country.

He therefore called for the scrapping of the Ministry of
Police Affairs and canvassed for the placement of the
force under the Ministry of Interior for effective
supervision.

Speaking at a post-election management review
organised by the CLEEN Foundation on Monday in
Abuja, the retired military officer said it was not right
for the National Security Adviser and the military to be
involved in election security, stressing that this is not
part of their business.

He said, “If well structured, Nigeria would have no
problems with elections. States should organise their
own polls, what is the business of INEC organising
governorship elections? The Nigeria police is still based
on 1949 structure and that is why it cannot provide
election security.

“The Police affairs ministry should be scrapped and the
Force placed under the interior ministry. It should
have a Director-General in charge of intelligence and
general investigation.”

Williams insisted that the Independent National
Electoral Commission erred by involving the NSA and
soldiers in the 2015 polls, noting that in Ghana, for
instance, there is a security coordinating committee
that handles election security.

“In Ghana, they have the security coordinating
committee which oversees election security; the NSA
should not be involved (in elections) at all. When I saw
their budget running into billions, I just shook my
head and wondered what they are doing with such
amount of money,” Williams stated.

According to him, the allegations of rigging that trailed
Ekiti and Osun governorship elections should not have
happened, noting that the deployment of soldiers for
the polls should not have been done since other
security agencies were available to assist the police in
supervising the election.

Williams’ submission was however countered by Prof.
Okey Ibeanu from INEC, who argued that the electoral
agency had a basis in law for allowing the military to
take part in election security.

He also defended the NSA’s involvement in the
elections, stressing that its role was to coordinate the
advisory from the various security agencies in the
country, noting that the deployment of soldiers was to
deter political thugs from disrupting the polls.

The Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, said
there is a lot to be done in terms of organisation and
securing the electoral process, adding that “this is the
time to start planning for 2019 and other staggered
elections like the governorship polls in Bayelsa, Edo,
Ondo, Osun and Kogi States.”

The National Examination Council has warned
candidates sitting for its examinations against
patronising people who post requests online, asking
them to pay and get leaked answers.

NECO’s Abuja Liaison Officer, Mr. Abdul Mustapha,
who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria on
Monday in Abuja, said such online postings were from
scammers.

NAN reports that NECO organises Senior School
Certificate Examination, Basic Education Certification
Examination and National Common Entrance
Examination.

According to Mustapha, such fraudsters cheat
unsuspecting candidates, adding that whoever
patronises them is doing so at his/her peril.

“They have no access to our answers; they cannot get
our answers; they will pretend as if they have seen the
answers but it is all lies.

“Our questions appear in four types – types A to D ;
but what they present to unsuspecting candidates is
just manufactured answers without the type
specifications.

“Again, our questions stop at 50, but theirs continue
from 51 to 100; that is another proof that they have
not seen our answers.

“In one occasion, in our biology exam, the specimen
was an ear but they drew flower in their own fake
answers,” he said.

He said candidates are always shy from reporting to
NECO when they fell prey to scammers, “knowing that
they tried to cheat but ended up being cheated.”

The 2015 NECO SSCE internal examination which
commenced on May 21 will end on July 10.

I had hardly sat down to listen to the radio programme when the anchor’s language deteriorated and included every profanity on his lips. Gov. Rochas Okorocha wasn’t spared at all. He kept on reminding his listeners that “Okorohausa” (the name he used to refer Gov. Rochas Okorocha) is not an Igbo man but an Hausa first son on a mission to Igbo land with Northern agenda. I was disenchanted over such misleading statements and the best I could do was to switch off the radio.

My second encounter with the radio Biafra was late last month in a public transport, the anchor, Nnamdi Kalu had urged all through sons of Biafra to come back home to Aba, Abia state May 30th in commemoration of Biafran day. Someone called in and asked if they should come armed in case of any resistance from the Nigerian police, he said and I quote: “it’s not yet time for war, when it’s time, we will come out for war, I know Biafran forces will win the battle against Nigerian security forces when the need arises, we are fully prepared, waiting for the right order”. I was again stunned over such inflammatory comments.



[b] Truth must be told, nobody does same thing same way and expect different results, over the years it has always been a particular pattern, gather their supporters at Onitsha, Aba,Owerri and Enugu and start processions or demonstrations, after that they go home but not without casualties.

How will such gatherings lead to creation of Biafran state? Biafran leaders are yet to convince United Nations General Assembly to carryout a referendum in the South-east region to ascertain if they want to secede or not, yet Biafran leaders and it’s supporters are already convinced that an Independent Biafra is in the offing.

One of the disadvantages of such false hope about this Biafran issue is that the time our youths would have used in investing in something meaningful is being used to listen to Biafran radio.Very sad!
An unemployed friend told me proudly that he’s no longer a Nigerian and not interested in searching for a job in Nigeria, before the end of 2015 Biafran state will be a dream come true and he will just go and join Biafran army. Many of our youths reasons like my friend, argue with a Biafran supporter and you will realize how disconnected they have become with the harsh realities of life.

Radio Biafra has done more harm than good to our youths, they have been convinced to get ready to lay down their lives for the Biafran course if that’s the only way the Biafran state can be actualized.

What have Biafran leaders done for the South-eastern region so far to convince them about this movement? As far as am concerned, Biafran leaders are not better than politicians, atleast politicians have provisions for stomach infrastructure.

The earlier we realize this movement has outlived it’s usefulness the better for us all. The agitation has done
more harm than good. With such memories of the Biafran civil war, the South-eastern region will never see reasons why this nation should remain a united entity. [/b]

The All progressives congress, APC, National Chairman John Oyegun has called on those calling for his resignation in the party to redirect their energy towards ensuring that the party delivers on its promises to the Nigerian people.

He stated this as a guest on the Channels TV programme “Road Map” before adding that nobody should blame him for the fiasco at the National Assembly elections.

Oyegun who backed Senator Lawan Ahmed and Honourable Femi Gbajabiabila for the National Assembley positions, admitted that he has been hurt by the outcome of the elections which produced Senator Bukola Saraki and Honourable Yakubu Dogara as Senate president and Speaker of the House of Representatives.

“The civil war in the party has ended and we would not allow this to distract us”
“There is no question that we have been hurt with what happened. We disappointed the Nigerian people and we apologise for that but, all that is in the past and its behind us, we are moving forward and focusing on policies that would benefit the Nigerian people”

Oyegun whom the former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwanso blasted for his inability to resolve different interest groups in the party, vying for different positions also stated that he should not be blamed for what happened at the national assembly.
