In a very ambitious attempt to construct the historical past of Etche, Achonwa (1980) traced the migration of the people from a particular place and point in time. According to him: The Etche people left the Benin Kingdom about 7th century. They moved up to Agbor, and entered the Orashi River through Ndoni. Creek-settling for brief while at the present-day Omoku … they moved eastwards up to Abua. They crossed Abua to Ndele on land; stopping finally at Igbo, the first Etche settlement. There is the speculation that “this horde” was an amalgam of many other tribes, which according to Achonwa included the Ikwerres, Abuans, Ekpeyes, etc. He submits that this was responsible for the settlement known as Ikwerre-Ngwo – a conglomerate of peoples. According to Onyema (2000), Etche is part of the Benin in Diaspora of the fourteenth century.
He moved along with the Ogbas, Ekpeyes and Ikwerres. They crossed the River Niger from one spot and spread themselves southwesterly and southeasterly from the spot they crossed the River Niger. This myth has some credence. There is similarity of language among the Ogbas, the Ikwerres and the Etches. There is also similarity of language between the “Etches” and Igbodos” of Delta State. “Igbodo” is a town between Asaba and Agbor in Delta State. There is a town called Obite in Ogba land and Obite town in Etche. Also, an address sent to the Ekpeye people in their annual “OGWU EKPEYE” cultural festival by the Oba of Benin confirmed this aspect of the history. The present Oba of Benin was one time Divisional Officer in the then Ahoada Division, which comprised Etche, Ikwerre, Ekpeye, Ogba and Abua. They were then known as clans.

Newsgeek24: The Minority Leader and member representing Omuma state constituency at the Rivers State House of Assembly, Sylvanus Nwankwo and his colleague, Peter Abbey representing the Degema Constituency have retraced their steps in the ongoing plot to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy.
At a press conference in Port Harcourt on Monday, the duo urged the State Assembly to reconsider its step.
According to them, the decision followed an appeal from “our elders and leaders”, who begged for leniency.
They said, “Rivers State issued a notice of impeachment on Governor Fubara and his Deputy. We appeal to our fellow colleagues to temper justice with mercy and see how we can solve this matter without the impeachment proceedings.
“Having listened to so many calls from our elders and leaders, both within and outside the state, we are begging our colleagues to reconsider our steps and see how this matter can be resolved amicably even though the governor and his deputy have infringed on the Constitution”.
Very Nigerian reports that the governor and his Deputy were served impeachment notice on Thursday last week over alleged gross misconduct.

DAVE UMAHI, NUHU RIBADU, HOPE UZODINMA, OTHERS STORMS RIVERS GOVERNMENT HOUSE: Wike's Political Arrogance Have Come To And End.
By Speaker Jethro Daniel.
From every visible sign, the era of Nyesom Wike’s unchecked political dominance and Arrogance has come to an end.
Normally in this life, when a man mistakes temporary power for eternal authority, history is never gentle in its response.
As you can see in this Video, Hon Dave Umahi, the Hon minister of works, Alhaji Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser to the President, Hope Uzodinma, Executive Governor of Imo State, and many other APC Big Boys storms Rivers State government House on a courtesy call on Fubara last night amids impeachment process by the Rivers State House of Assembly.
This Video alone speak louder than a thousand speeches. This convergence of this powerful APC figures in Rivers State Government House at such a sensitive moment is not accidental, nor is it ceremonial. It is symbolic, it is strategic. It is a loud political statement: the ground beneath Wike’s feet is no longer firm.
Wike right from when he was governor, operates as if power was personal property—as if institutions existed to serve his will, not the people’s mandate.
Wike carries himself as a demigod on earth, untouchable, unquestionable, and unaccountable. I have said it before that, one day, just one day, Wike will live to regret this his arrogance, because Power, when abused, eventually abandons its abuser.
Wike failed to understand that political alliances are transactional, not emotional, he failed to understand that the arrangement that the deal between him and Tinubu and APC has clearly expired.
Wike don't want to believe that President Tinubu and APC now sees Wike as a liability to them, and if care is not taken, Wike will be removed from the ministerial position that is making him misbehave.
In today’s politic, usefulness determines survival—and when a player becomes a liability, sentiment disappears, and the signals are clear that the umbrella has closed, the shield withdrawn, and the protection gone.
And if he din not quickly humble himself now, he will end up without any strong political party, because the PDP he fractured has stacked him and moved on with resolve, and from all indication, the APC has made its position clear on anything Wike, and no serious political platform will love to accommodate a man who treats structures with contempt and loyalty as disposable like Wike.
I pray this serves as a lesson to those politician who believes power is permanent, who elevates ego above humility. I pray they understand that no matter how loud your voice is, how deep your pockets are, or how wide your influence is—there is always an end.
Power is borrowed, authority is temporary, and history is unforgiving.
May this serve as a solemn warning to all of them who see themselves as small gods on earth: there is a time for rising, and there is a time for reckoning. And when that time comes, no amount of bluster can stop the fall.
Na Fubara dey pity this man. All these statements suppose dey displayed for strategic places for Rivers State. Play the dirty politics Fubara. That's the only language wike understands.
hrm93: I’ve just completed my first semester in the MBA program at the Ahmadu Bello University Distance Learning (ABUDLC), and here’s an honest review for anyone considering the program.
Onboarding & Welcome Experience The program started fairly, but students were expected to figure out key things (like WhatsApp groups and tutor access) by checking forums on the learning management system. This information should have been clearly communicated in a welcome email. Score: 5/10
Lecturers & Teaching The lecturers in the first semester (they tried sha but my 2nd semester proved it was a set u) were generally fair and reasonably active. Engagement was frequent enough, and the teaching quality was decent overall. Score: 6/10
Examinations (First Semester) I wrote my exams on the Lagos mainland at JKK Building, Anthony. Day 1 was very disorganized, although things improved on Day 2. However, when you factor in the emotional and mental stress (especially for working professionals) the experience was far from ideal. Institutions of this caliber should be proactive, not reactive, particularly when they claim to be shaping Africa’s future business leaders. Score: 4/10
Examinations (Second Semester – Current Situation) As I prepare for second-semester exams, I received an email just two days before the papers informing us that the Lagos center has been moved from Anthony to Abule Egba. For working students, this last-minute change is extremely disruptive. Score: 1/10
Grading System Some lecturers still operate with the “5/5 is for God” mentality, even in 2025, in an era where AI and modern learning tools are redefining education. This approach feels outdated and discouraging. Score: 6/10
Final Thoughts If you’re considering this program and have a high tolerance for stress and surprise changes, then this might work for you. At times, it honestly feels like a toxic relationship, you praise them twice for enabling remote learning, then spend eight times dealing with avoidable frustration just to enjoy that privilege.
Won’t recommend to anyone I love.
Let me quickly tell my friend that Ahmadu Bello Uni is a no go areas, he was actually considering them for Distance MBA.
BondRiv: Are you are Rivers man? Allow him be how? To continue running our state like a dictator? Keep your emotions in check and leave our state alone.
These men, you guys don't reason properly anymore. If you call Fubara a dictator, what was Wike during his tenure?
Most of these men no get any constituency project in their various constituencies,na to dey attend burials, marriages, child dedication up and down but once it comes to Fubara, them go dey serious dey read motions wey their aides write
Dead on arrival.
Why the Impeachment move? I been think say them talk say Fubara no go get APC ticket? Abi that one don cut?
fergie001: The Rivers State House of Assembly has initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Sim Fubara.
These Assembly members are behaving like over-fed babies. No steeze, nothing at all. What makes them feel they can just Impeach Fubara just like that? Martins don dey take very old whiskey too.
See as Martins dey lament with him vgly face. His pain is that Fubara has refused to appear before him. Martins Ntoor!!
Hedonisco: Stop taking nonsense. This primitive kind of reasoning is similar to how Nigerian police people reason, and I wouldn't be surprised if you are one or maybe the son of one.
What is the criminal culpability in being a passenger? Which law exactly did he break as a passenger? Some of you people can be so annoying.
Lolz. Look who calls someone primitive. It's actually very funny. You guys can actually mention laws but when such laws catch up with you, you deviate from the subject matter.
I hate when we can’t dispassionately assess issues without throwing that poor man jab.
The first day I saw the accident, I suggested that the driver be prosecuted.
If you look at the impact that vehicle had, a Lexus SUV for that matter, you’d realize that only recklessness could have caused the accident.
If he were to be a little bit more careful, he would have been able to maneuver the situation and avert that tragedy.
The accident is 100% on the driver and those who drive know it.
As a hirer, are you not mandated to caution the driver when you notice his over speeding? You guys haven't answered his question, if that vehicle was being driven by one of those AJs friends, do you think he would have been prosecuted? Absolutely not. I feel at this juncture, if the driver is being prosecuted, AJ has some case to answer as well. They have used that poor man as scape goat. When you guys see the truth, say it and stop twisting things.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiSyy44L5hg The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, has alleged that his successor, the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, upon resumption of office cancelled an employment process by his (Wike’s) administration which engaged 10,000 youths of the state. Wike regretted that Fubara was priding with projects he (Wike) started in Ahoada and Emohua areas, describing Fubara as ‘a bad child.’
This evvil man.
Wike that did recruitment for only rumuepirikom people in the guise of employing Rivers people. He has been talking since as if he did anything good for Rivers people
