Where do all these nutters keep crawling out from? huh

If a team's best player on the night, who also happened to score one of the best goals of the tournament choked, then what did all the other player's do? Drown? huh

Meanwhile, Bendtner was magnificent for the Danes. Neat in possession, winning headers and flick ons, even spraying diagonal cross-field passes for fun! And of course he scored twice.

Giroud's signing now seems imminent, which means RVP+Bendtner+Chamakh+Park+Giroud, not to mention Poldi. Two of them will probably have to leave.

coogar: you are a glorified simpleton!
what has cesc's playing furthest forward gotta do with this?
welbeck was a forward tonight and he posted 92% pass completion....
Ode, how is Welbeck posting 92% in a one-off game relevant? Does he post 92% every season?

cesc is a liability...telling us he plays furthest forward in a team
that has messi and alexi sanchez makes you a world class Arrow.
When did I say this? Were Sanchez and Messi included in the stats you provided? Is it my fault you cannot read? cheesy

his ratio is horrible wherever he has played.....cesc is always attempting risky passes.
Proof?

what has this gotta do with the argument? your theory that xavi should be benched for cesc
makes you a bumbling oaf.
When was this posited? Was Xavi not in the Spanish team i posted earlier?

Abeg, don't suck me into your imbecilic arguments again. . . I can do a lot of things but i cannot cure stupidity! grin grin grin

coogar: because you have nothing to say....

things have changed since then....firstly, it was under a different manager(aragones)
since 2010, the whole continent has moved to playing 4-2-3-1 from their traditional
formation.....then there's now the emergence of busquets and xabi alonso has redefined
himself. so of what essence would it be to sacrifice xavi as a pivot when cesc cannot
even retain possession as much as xavi? you are very daft!

i know you would put a spin in this.
all i said was cesc is more likely to give the ball away trying
hollywood passes than xavi, iniesta and busquets. the stats
proved so, why are you still moaning like a bitch?
your rebuttal to that was comparing joe allen to maradona. grin

yes, you must play with 2 pivots.

in the last world cup....

spain - alonso + busquets
holland - de jong + van bommel
germany - schweini + khedira

football managers have now learnt to be more cautious
and reactive than going gung-ho and getting thrashed.

ritchboy, you are a disgrace to football punditry!
rest one of busquets or alonso? in 2012? your brains should
be quarantined. grin
You still dey yarn? cheesy

Anyway before I sign out it's imperative I don't leave you believing this myth Cesc cannot retain possession as well as Keita and co by letting you know Cesc doesn't play furthest forward because he has the lowest pass completion percentage, he has the lowest pass completion percentage because he plays furthest forward.

Anyone with half-a-brain knows it's easier to keep the ball closer to your goal where (A) The opposition are happier to let you have it and there is less pressure, and (B) You're attempting far less risky passes(i.e through balls). That's why DMs/DLMs(incl. Denilson, Mikel, Keita etc) always have some of the highest pass completion rates.

Go and check Cesc's ratio when he played deeper and make sure you keep tissue on stand by! grin grin

P.S. According to your logic Joe Allen is the sixth best "shape keeper" in Europe, no? cheesy

Yes! he has choked in some games.
OH!

However, time and time over his goals has been instrumental in winning Barca a lot of trophies. Sadly, same cant be said about the choker.
Of course if you play at the right CLUB at the right time you'll win trophies irrespective of how good or bad you are. John O'Shea won loads at United, Ronaldo never won the UCL. If Messi played for Wolves he won't win anything and according to you his goals become irrelevant and he becomes a "choker". Has your cerebral cortex has expired?

You cant abuse your way out of answering my own question!
Which question? How big a tool you are? Did you answer all my questions? The irony.

Ps. I agree the first example is a bit harsh. I hold my hands up and exclude that.
You should hold your brain up cos it's not doing it's job.

The other two I stand by, he played the full games and was found wanting when needed. Basically, he choked.
He may not have been at his best, but if you're suggesting he played badly/"choked" in those games then you should be lobotomized by a mad-scientist.

You mean the final he scored the equalizer before being taken off injured?

When a single goal was needed in the second half of CHAMPIONS league match with Ac milan this year, where was he?
Another game he scored? huh You want him to score two or three goals every game?

Sunderland 2 vs Arseanl 0, fa cup, this year, where was the choker?
This is the best you can do? Is this the part i start listing the gazillion games other world class players have failed to score/"choked"? At this point i have to refrain from calling you retarded because that would be slandering retards.

nah...the lice in your nether region was too stubborn to admit this is tournament football

cos i never knew cesc would start ahead of his strikers....but i said
cesc can't be trusted to play in the midfield ahead of the quartet of xavi, iniesta, busi

his team as much.

which yeye perks.....what has this gotta do with our argument that cesc can't be trusted
in the midfield? del bosque played him as a striker for a reason and if he could trust cesc,
he coulda moved him back to the midfield and sub one of alonso/busi for a striker....but it
was cesc that got subbed.

your idiotic assumption that cesc is also better than iniesta was finally put to bed last night.

except that it didn't ruin spain in their last 2 major competitions.
Euro 2008 doesn't count as Aragones' Spain wasn't as possession obsessed as Del Bosque's. Go and watch it again in 3D!

I'm sure you'll also agree Spain won games more convincingly at Euro 2008 than at SA 2010 despite having better players at the World Cup, what does that tell you?

what ruined barcelona against chelsea wasn't about reluctance to give it away.
Sure it did, did you not see the amount of times they were playing casual 5-yard "make e no spoil for my hand" passes and ignoring other options?

cesc fabregas ruined barcelona, his brainfarts in front of goal missing
gilt-edge chances was well documented in spite of chelsea's ultradefensive tactics,
barcelona stillbreached their defence several times @ the bridge with cesc missing glorious chances.
Stop talking nonsense my friend, Cesc was Barca's best player over two legs. He missed(air-shot) ONE chance at SB and had a brilliant mini-chip-shot heading straight for the bottom corner cleared off the line fantastically(no fault of his). Which glorious chances are you talking about? If Sanchez/Messi had converted the chances/penalty he created the story coulda been different.

spain cannot flop...barcelona missed villa's marksmanship in front of goal.
in this tournament, spain would have llorente and nando torres who wouldn't
be as wasteful as cesc fabregas in front of goal.
LOL!

what a stupid way of flipping an argument. i said cesc fabregas cannot retain possession and
he's the player most likely to give the ball away in their midfield and you laughed at my claim.
Is your claim not laughable? cheesy

i then brought out stats that vindicated my claim and you quickly turned it into joe allen's credentials.
You mean you actually feel "vindicated"? This is serious! grin grin

Your stats also "vindicate" the fact Seydou Keita retains possession better than Alonso, Cesc, Iniesta and Busquets!!!

I can't even laugh.

we are talking about keeping possession - the ethos of tiki-taka and you are talking about fabregas....
a player that is not disciplined enough positionally and would often attempt risky/hollywood passes
the only area of the pitch cesc can fit is in the forward area, where his giving the ball away won't
hurt the team so much. in a nutshell, cesc is like gerrard..too impatient to fit the tiki taka philosophy!
And Seydou Keita is the king of your own brand of tiki-taka? cheesy

in the midfield....xavi, busquets, iniesta and alonso must start. i can put your life on it.
Iniesta playing wide has half-defeated the purpose. Spains best formation =

back five

Busquets/Alonso Xavi

Silva Cesc Iniesta

CF

except that cesc's 86.9% possession + 200 key passes + 50 assists led barcelona to their worst season since 2008.
You mean they cloned Cesc to fill 11 positions on the field simultaneously? Why not Sanchez or even a previous squad-member? huh

nateevs: Dude. . Football does not work "only on a set of principles".

Chelsea can line up a very decent midfield in a combination of Mikel and Lamps in a double pivot and Mata in the hole.
This is one of the best midfield 3 in the PL.

However, one of the reasons Chelsea had to defend deep against the opposition mentioned is because almost always broke down on the forward line. With Drogba, Malouda, Kalou, Ramires, there was not enough quality in ball retention. They lost the ball more often and it's only a matter of time before midfield is overrun.

With the inclusion of Marin, Hulk, Hazard and Mata in the hole we suddenly have an att mid/forward line that could cause problems.
Hazard and Marin are players that can pick up the ball and walk into the opposition half.
Opposition knows this and the plan will be to double on these players and that's where it changes.

When two players on the flanks in certain "team A" need to be doubled on, then the opposition suddenly has two midfield players with more work to do on the flanks in addition to dominating possession. Because they know this team has a forward line dangerous not just on the break but even with posssession, they become less inventive with passes. This will cause them to push back a little in preparation for defensive cover. The outcome is "Team A" also has less pressure and allowing their midfielders to get on the ball more. This is an example of how a mobile and threatening forward line can help a team win midfield battles.
All this is secondary. . . Sure, Hazard can help keep opposition honest(even Theo Walcott does this with sheer pace) and make the midfielders' job a little easier but it's still up to the midfielders to do the main job. Silva and sons can also "pick up the ball and walk into the opposition half" but Mancini still parks his Lambo at Emirates every season because his midfield is no match for Arsenal's in possession.

As long as it's still Ramires, Lampard, Miereles and co in the middle of the park don't expect to roll up to Allianz Arena and play "high blocks" because Bayern are scared of Hazard and Marin.

A classic example of this is Bayern V Chelsea, Bayern did not win the midfield battle because they typically have a better midfield than Chelsea. They did because they had threatening forward players in Ribery and Robben.
This is patently false as Schweinsteiger and Kroos are miles ahead of Lampard and Mikel in possession of the ball. Ribery and Robben are the most threatening wingers on earth but don't expect them to win midfield battle for Bayern at Nou Camp.

Examples? Another nutter on the loose.

He choked thrice at Stamford Bridge right? Choked at Anfield twice, choked versus United twice, Choked thrice vs Dortmund, choked vs Spurs, Milan, Udinese and all but three of the teams he faced last season? The boy is a real choker!

dayokanu: How many chances did Persie get and blew?

In the first half 6th min shoots off target when he was alone in the box, 42nd min he failed to control a simple pass in the box and missed the chance

In the 49min in the box again and he couldnt control the ball

3 huge chances Van persie alone in the box, no marker cant shoot on target and he cant even get a save from the keeper

BTW Robben didnt start 2010 world cup so Robben cant be blamed
Bros, no be only you watch match. . . people who actually didn't see the game will be mislead by these bogus analyses of yours.

Van persie is known to disappear for the NT whenever it matters
Wow, you deciphered all this from just one World Cup? You've just tattooed "problem of induction" on your forehead.

What about Euro 2008? The World Cup before that? Even in SA you'll be hard pressed to find a game he played badly. Worst case scenario he had "quiet" games no thanks to BVM's negative tactics. A striker's performance is at the mercy of the people behind him.

nateevs: Dude it's all about the setup. Suckers for English football don't see football any other way.
The obsession with winning 50-50s, midfield battles, defending deep, makes you think football is science.

Do Iniesta, Xavi, Busquets, Sergio, Alcantara look like midfielders who "can win midfield battles" ?
But they win battles except in a way unfamiliar to many. They win the midfield battle "attacking".

Hell Atletic Bilbao won the midfield battles over two legs against United.
Valencia destroyed supposedly one of the most resilient teams in the PL - Stoke.
These guys are not built like tanks, yet they run English teams to the ground in midfield.

Football is an art and there are more than one way to reach your goal.
While many believe that sliding tackles and power play is the way to win midfield battles, there are others who believe possession and zonal pressing, even with seemingly little and weak footballers, is the way to win it.
Nattevs, you are an embarrassment! cheesy

How the feck did you translate "midfield battle" to 50-50s, sliding tackles, "power play", etc!? Abi when did Arsenal midfield become renowned for winning 50-50s, sliding tackles and power play!? Obviously midfield battle = possession.

My point is, whether Hulk, Hazard, Mata and Marin can win midfield battles is heavily dependent on the system employed by the manager not their size or their strength.
Of course Marin, Hazard and Hulk won't win you any midfield battles because they are not midfielders. The team that wins the midfield battle dictates possession. The team that surrenders possession can only play up to a certain level("low/medium blocks" [c] AVB) before they get slaughtered by more skilled opposition. So I'm wondering how Hulk and Hazard will turn Miereles/Ramires to Busquets/Xavi(possession kings) that afford you the luxury of "never having to defend as deep as before". How will Hazard and Hulk help you play higher up the field @ Nou Camp, Allianz Arena or The Emirates? huh

I also like how you make Wilshere, Arteta, Song look like the best discovery ever.
They may not be the best discovery ever but they will dominate possession against any other midfield in the league more often than not. But apparently you think Hazard and Hulk will have a big say. cheesy

coogar: i did not say they aren't skilful....i said they are not in the
top tier of the skilful players in europe. you wouldn't put
anyone up there with berbatov....would you?

not to talk of nani, cristiano, okocha, van persie, ozil, etc.
Can you define "skilful"? In any definition Figo is at the "top tier". Forget e-diotic step-overs/flicks, Figo's natural tekkers shyte on Ronaldo/Nani every day of the week. AS IN LUIS FIGO!?!?!?

coogar: his is tournament football.....the difference between winning and losing
is a fine line: things like giving the ball away. that was what ruined
cesc against barcelona @ nou camp when he was still a gunner.
cesc is more likely to give the ball away with his risky/hollywood passes
than xavi and iniesta.
Focusing too much on not giving the ball away is what ruined Barca against Chelsea. Managers have become more adept at playing possession teams. In fact i have a strong feeling Spain will be one of the biggest flops at the Euros with their nonsense formation.

pass completion stats
92.4% - xavi
92.7% - thiago
91.9% - seydou keita
91.5% - busquets
89.7% - iniesta
88.1% - xabi alonso
86.9% - cesc

as far as passing the ball is concerned, cesc is the worst midfielder
in barcelona. xabi alonso even posts a better passing stats.
Joe Allen is also the sixth most accurate passer of the ball in Europe where stats are concerned. I will also show you stats that put the likes of Denilson in similar standing. Abeg, go and show your stats to six year olds.

The difference is Cesc's 86.9% in X amount of games will result in 200 key passes and 50 assists while Xavi's 92.7% won't get anywhere near. Let's not get started with the goals. . .

coogar: cesc has no discipline to hold position, xavi does.
Rubbish. Let's even assume this is true, the mandate of an AM is not to "hold position". While Cesc will be busy supplying assists and making good runs into the area to score goals, Xavi would be too preoccupied "holding position", maybe he is too disciplined!

cesc cannot retain possession, xavi can.

Ibime is the only nucca making brain here. . .

I see Nateevs is still living in la la land thinking signing Hazard/Hulk/Marin means Chelsea "will never need to defend as deep as we did" forgetting teams with better offensive units(i.e Man City) still come to the Emirates and camp in their 6-yard box. Abi how will Hulk and Hazard help you win midfield battle against Song-Arteta-Wilshere huh

Coogar also thinks Rivaldo, Kaka and Figo aren't skilful cheesy
