Riba_man: Abeg, where can one find foreign fish food in Enugu! I buy in Abakaliki, it's a bit pricey. ThanksI am currently in abakaliki and I think they get their feeds in enugu or onisha... u have to do a proper search because I know for sure before any feed that reaches abakaliki must pass through enugu... |

saheed':Hatching is the spinal cord of fish farming.. When u hatch u have everything at ur disposal from fries to fingerlings, juvenile, melange, table size and brood stock.. Hatching urself is the best in fish faring |
. |
saheed':I think mr excelsior has done justice... I will prefer for a starter you go into fish farming... And like stocking the pond juveniles is preferable because at this stage they are not that vulnerable or susceptible to disease and mortality... So I will also advice he starts fish farming.. |
saheed':contact aquatic1... |

aleshsenior2000: Pls at all. Did anyone know about exportation of smoked catfish should pls share.u have to get an export license and have a target market etc.. I am working patiently on this, as soon as i am thru i will brief u guys.. |
saheed':We thank God.. |
HAPPY SUNDAY YE'ALL... |
saheed':U are right, over feeding make water to be dirty because the left over feed will definitely dissove and in turn pollute the water... Especially local feed because it sinks.. |
saheed':Sorting is as important as a good feed... Sort more thoroughly.. I sort at most from fingerlings stage every ten days, from juvenile every two weeks.. Sort them into sizes small, medium, and large.. Any small fish u see at the pond of the big size must repeat its class by taking the fish back to where the smaller ones are... And any big fish u see at the smaller fish pond, u have to quickly give such fishes double promotion to where its class is.. Its just like the school system where one has to repeat or be promoted... This is my mentality.. |
saheed':thats good, just keep up with good management and keep us updated.. |
williams20: We have fed them with coppens for about three months so we decided to go local because of costfirst off, using coppens for three months is quite impressive.. If u are not sure of ur local feed formular We wrote a good feed formulation and its analysis on this thread, i recommend u use it and see a bumper harvest.. Thanks |
saheed':is it the same local formulation u use with the other guy? If its the same, u can continue since u are a witness of his result... U can also check out our formulation we wrote on this thread.. Cheers |
williams20: My fishes are about 3months old and I just changed to local feed AMS TOP FEED , is there other feed I can use or continue with amsHonestly speaking I have never heard of "AMS TOP FEED" before... How much is it and Is this your first time using it? |
saheed':From your info u said the fishes are 6 weeks and I wonder why u should formulate feed for them at that age...u will be suprised that it was the local feed that was doing the damage all along.. I suggest u start giving them ranan feed for your own good.. Ranan feed 2mm is 4500 while from 2mm upward is #4200... |
UP FOR GRABS!!! COLLAPSIBLE TANK MEASURING 15 BY 15 FEET WITH A DEPTH OF 4 FEET FOR JUST #50k... IT WILL ACCOMODATE A THOUSAND FISH CONVENIENTLY TO MATURITY... INTERESTED PERSONS SHOULD CONTACT ME.. THANKS.. |
miqos02: @all, pls how good is ranan feed. i am trying to save costRanan feed is one of the emrging feed now in circulation, the company is from israel and they are gradually finding their feet in nigeria.. I have gotten a good report from some farmers who uses it... I attended a workshop organised by ranan feed last month and it was awesome... I intend giving it a try by next week... |
@ ab1x, aquatic, excessoir, u guys have been wonderful... @ saheed kindly get back to us on any developements.. |
omode2: thanks but frm d farm pix u posted u use concrete ponds does d mortality rate differ btw concrete and earthen pond?i can not say of earthen ponds because i have not used it.. Mr ab1x is an earthen pond specialist, he can give us mortality rates on earthen pond... Over to u mr ab1x for ur own experience on mortality in earthen ponds |
. |
omode2: @robonski thanks for ur good work. What shd be d likely mortality rate for juvenile of 1000 fishes under good mgt practices.management practices differs from farm to farm.. I record different mortality rate with the same management practices at different stocking, though minimal.. But the least i have recorded was 4 death out of 3000 juvenile for 5 month.. I guess u should give them good management and find out on your own.. Thanks |
Immaculate4sure: @robonski I have been following from the beginning and I must admit u guys are doing great job. Pls I have a mobile pond 12 ft × 12 ft by 2.5 ft height, how many can I stock for milange. ThanksI used one of these mobile tanks for melange and it accommodated a thousand two hundred very comfortable.. though it was 3 feet height... |
aquatic1: The 2000ltrs will contain 250 to 300fishes to maturity not 400 to 500.iU can strech it to 400 comfortably |
jamp: I want to use plastic pond that is 2000 litersit will contain 400 to 500 fishes to maturity comfortably.. |
jamp: Bros what of my second questionit depends on the system used in raising them... If u use a flow through system it is 100 to 150 fishes per square metre. Recirculatory is 300 per square metre, earthen pond is 50 per square metre.. |
THA BOSS: Aw do u know if dey are runts for newbies like us.If u read the post carefully I wrote about how to identify runts... Plz re-read its on the first page... |
