I stocked the fish at fingerlings stage.. If u hatch yourself its either u introduce them at fingerling or juvenile.. Using maggot to feed is d best.. I learnt a little of maggotery at songhai.. When they are in fingerlings stage I do flow through.. But when dey are bigger I change the water every three days.. Thanks

One question, if you made a net profit of N1000k in 5 months, am I assumed to believe ur net salary to be N200k a month?

Your are absolutely correct.. My net profit as at then was N200k a month.. But as you expand ur net profit increases.. Thanks

Yeah I think u should work on your water management and try reducing their feed drastically for two days.. If things don't improve then (tertracyclin,chloraphenical and salt should be administered).. But we need to know the size of ur pond so as to know the quantity to administer..

williams20: Good morning great Farmers. Pls we have 2 concrete ponds about 3000litres each. And we have stocked a thousand fish into both. We feed twice daily with coppens and change water completely every 3-4days. Bt the fishes do hang up sometimes and they have big bellies. Recorded 3 casualties so far. Pls we need more insight.

I spent the 2 million overtime in the space of TWO AND HALF YEARS.... My first stock was 5000 fingerlings which I bought for 20 naira each.. And feeding them with about 700,000 naira,I still have the records.. At harvest I only sold about 300,000 there by making a lose of roughly 400,000, if u minus feeding and the purchase of the fingerlings..Of which I did not even add salary, fuel,drugs etc..

I harvested 5 times within the two and half years.. Of which I consequently lost money all through..roughly With my calculations its even more than the 2million naira...

I know I could learn it in lagos but like I said earlier on most of the farm I visited where not even sure of what they where really doing..they only told me what I know already... I had to source for a training outside because I wanted a different training to what others are doing.. I thank God I took the right step to learn from songhai..

ab1x: Thanks for the info. What kind of pond do you make use of ? Also, don't your fish get sick after a while? How often do you wash your pond during the five month?

I use a concrete pond in my farm... Due to experience,before I stock I wash the pond then i disinfect it with BLAGDON ANTI FUNGAI AND BACTERIA.. So they rarely get sick.. But once in a while I still record a very few death though throughout the five month..
I wash my pond only after harvest.. Its shaded to avoid direct sun light.. Thanks

ab1x: are you saying u used Vital feeds all through without local feeds ?

I fed them with zeigler for the first three months then I switched to vital feed for the rest two month.. With my findings vital feed gives them weight..
