Burna Boy & his record label, Aristokrat Records are dancing Azonto and Skelewu to the bank after they reportedly sold the marketing rights for Burna’s debut album to popular Alaba marketer Uba Pacific for a fee of N10million. For some time now, marketers in Alaba have stopped paying artistes to secure marketing rights of their albums. They now prefer to split the royalties made from the sales of albums According to reports, Burna Boy ’s album has been selling so fast that it has allayed the fears of UBA Pacific who was sceptical on paying such a huge amount for a new act. He reportedly sold 40,000 copies on the first day. I'm even a witness to that when I went to buy my copy of Burna Boy's album ten copies were sold within a minute.

Beverly, in the ongoing Big Brother Africa reality show, the dreadlocked guy has denied it. He said they were ‘just kissing’. Speaking to a source on the phone earlier in the week, after being evicted from the show, Angelo said, “We didn’t have sex. We talked about it. There were some things I said I wasn’t going to do in the house. I respect my mum so much. Before I got into the house, there were things I told my mummy I wasn’t going to do. I wasn’t butt naked. It looked as if we were having sex in that bathtub. We were just kissing. I couldn’t take advantage of Beverly because I respect her so much.” Respect is not the only thing Angelo has for the Nigerian lady. Angelo also confirmed that he is in love with her and intends to pursue the relationship. “We will try and work things out and see how we can make our relationship work. At the same time, I hope the people of Nigeria don’t hate Bev. I would love to come to Nigeria and experience Nigerian culture and take lots of pepper,” he said. Now that he is out of the house, so many people feel the South African will go back to the girlfriend he left behind before BBA. But he said he wasn’t in any relationship before he got into the show. “I didn’t have a girlfriend before I got into the house, but I had someone I told to wait for me so that we would see what would happen when I get out of the house. I will be focused on what I want to do as a person and then focus on my relationship with Bev and see where we will take it to,” he said. No matter his feelings for Beverly though, Angelo said he hopes Melvin, the other Nigerian housemate, comes out tops in the show. “Melvin is very humble and he is not a selfish person. I wish he wins. I think he is a stronger competition than Beverly,” he said. Meanwhile, the show ends tomorrow with Elikem, Cleo, Dillish, Melvin and Beverly as the finalists.

Former US President George Bush Senior has shaved his head to show support for a child suffering from leukaemia. The 89-year-old Republican made the bold decision to be rid of his familiar grey locks after he saw that all the members of his Secret Service security detail had just done likewise. One of the agents has a two-year-old son currently undergoing treatment for the cancer, and is losing his hair as a result. And in a display of solidarity, the president and his men got the clippers out earlier this week at his summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine. A spokesman for Mr Bush identified the young boy only as Patrick, and said the security detail had launched a website , , to help pay for his treatment. George and Barbara Bush lost their second child, 4-year-old Robin Bush, to leukaemia almost 60 years ago. Mr Bush was the 41st president of the US, serving a single term from 1989 to 1993. He is the father of fellow former President George W. Bush, and was himself only discharged from hospital in January, after spending two months being treated for bronchitis.

Another former Super Eagles’ player, Pius Oleh has been confirmed dead in the United States of America. Daily Sunsports have reliably gathered. Former Junior International, Paul Okoku who confirmed Oleh’s death to Daily Sunsports hinted that the ex-football star was found dead in his garage and the unconfirmed cause of the death was linked to carbon monoxide. Okoku said: “Totty called me several times in the last three days to ascertain whether it was true or rumour about an ex-international death in Michigan. “I extended a call to my former Flying Eagles and St Finbarr’s College team mate, Alphonsus Akhahon, who resides in Michigan and a one-time close friend of the deceased. “Finally, Alphonsus confirmed to me that Pius Oleh was found dead in his garage and the unconfirmed cause of death was linked to carbon monoxide. During his lifetime, Oleh tried to bring soccer back to the Cotton Bowl, USA. At this time last year, the AmeriSoccer President, Pius Oleh was in the process of staging the Obama Challenge. Unfortunately, Oleh could not close the deal as it caused a major scandal between four federations, with the Nigerian Football Federation inclusive in the fiasco as the Super Eagles were stranded in Dallas. Meanwhie, the Association of Nigerian Ex-Internationals in the Diaspora, (ANED) commiserates with the Oleh’s family over the loss of their beloved son, saying Oleh was a comrade and a fraternity colleague. •Army school’s Labour Prefect loses life for enforcing discipline … Victim’s brother demands justice From JUDEX OKORO, Calabar Tragedy struck at 13 Amphibious Brigade, Eburutu Barracks, Ikot Ansa in Calabar Municipality of Cross River State recently when the Labour Prefect of Army Day Secondary School, Boniface Odinakachukwu, 19, was stabbed to death for confiscating fellow student’s sandals. Investigations revealed that Boniface, an SSS II student and an indigene of Onicha-Igboeze Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, met his untimely death penultimate week when his fellow SS II student, one Francis (surname withheld), allegedly hired a colleague, Godwin (surname also withheld), 20, to assist him in beating up the Prefect for daring to accost him (Francis) for improper dressing in school. The late Boniface, it was learnt, was a stickler for discipline and therefore, ensured that students complied with the mode of dressing within the school premises. And in carrying out his official functions, the Prefect had accosted Godwin, queried him on why he should fly his shirt’s collar and adorning a pair of sandals during school hours and as a punishment, the late Boniface allegedly confiscated the sandals and handed over to one of the school masters, hoping to return them to him the following day as has always been the practice. Francis, sources said, did not raise any eyebrow as he walked quietly to his class without showing any sign that he was annoyed or out to do anything funny over the seizure of his sandals. But trouble started, when after school had closed at 3:00 pm, Francis and a few of the students alleged to be cultists including Godwin, a school drop-out, were unknowingly trailing him and subsequently attacked and killed him in the process. An eyewitness said: “As we were going home after school hours, we noticed some funny movements by senior students as they clustered and were pointing at our Labour Prefect, accusing him of always embarrassing the students who don’t dress properly. “The group of students numbering about five accosted Boniface finally and asked him why did he embarrass the big boy, Francis and before he could utter a word, a fight ensued. At that time, Godwin just stepped forward, removed a dagger from his pocket and stabbed the Labour Prefect on the chest and he slumped and died instantly.” On discovering that Boniface was dead, the boys fled, but were later arrested by the soldiers and handed over to the police. Godwin, who hailed from Akwa Ibom State, is cooling off at the Diamond Hill state police command headquarters, Calabar where is being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). Police sources informed that Godwin had confessed that he was hired by his friend, Francis, to assist, asked him to recover a pair of sandals which Boniface had seized from him for allegedly dressing improperly. The accused disclosed that Francis spotted the Labour Prefect for him from a distance and pointed at him and they went after him in a group. Besides, Godwin who is a drop-out from Government Technical School Ikot Nsa, Calabar, had admitted that he got hold of the Labour Prefect from the back, and later stabbed him on the chest, saying he didn’t intend to kill him. Francis was also said to have admitted that both of them laid ambush for the late Boniface at the school gate, waiting for the closing hour so that they could the deal with him. He said that it was not their intention to kill him, but to just harass him and collect the sandals. Francis and Godwin, who are said to be close friends and live in the same block at Eburutu Barracks, would soon be charged to court as they have already admitted to killing the prefect. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Hogan Bassey, confirmed the incident to reporters in Calabar. Reacting to Boniface’s death, his elder brother, Ikemefuna, said: “I don’t know why a fellow student should organize people to kill my younger brother just like that. It is very painful and a big loss to our family and we would not allow our brother’s killers to go free. “What will I tell my parents that I took my brother from home alive and bubbling and now taking him home in a coffin? Why should it be so?” Ikemefuna, who trades on GSM accessories, said: “Justice must be done by ensuring that those students are also killed so that others will learn from there. We will not accept any move to scuttle the prosecution of this matter because I have informed my community here in Calabar and Ebonyi. We will soon write to our state government to come to our aid so that this type of thing will not happen to our people again.” He said, however, that once the police are through with the autopsy, they would write officially so that the body can be released for burial in his hometown. Also speaking, the Ebonyi Development Association, Calabar branch’s spokesman, Chief Ogbonnaya Oka, said the community would soon decide on how to go about the killing of one of their sons. Oka, who appealed to all Ebonyians to remain calm amid any provocation, said, “we will soon make our representations to Governor Liyel Imoke to ensure that we are given protection because Ebonyi people contribute positively to the economic development of the state,” adding that they would assist the police in the prosecution of the accused. |
BEIJING (AP) — A strong earthquake that shook an arid, hilly farming area in northwest China sparked landslides and destroyed or damaged thousands of brick- and-mud homes Monday, killing at least 75 people and injuring more than 400, the government said. The quake near the city of Dingxi in Gansu province toppled brick walls and telephone lines, shattered mud-and-tile-roofed houses and sent cascades of dirt and rock down hillsides that blocked roads and slowed rescue efforts by crews trying to reach remote areas. Hospitals set up aid stations in parking lots to accommodate large numbers of injured, while hundreds of paramilitary People's Armed Police fanned out to search for victims in the region of terraced farmland where the quake struck about 1,200 kilometers (760 miles) west of Beijing. "I saw the bulb hanging from the ceiling start swinging wildly around. I woke my two friends and we ran into the bathroom to hide," said arts student Li Jingui, 21, who was on the fourth floor of a school dormitory in Dingxi when the shaking started. "After the strongest tremors were over, we were worried that there would be aftershocks so we packed our stuff and ran out into a large clearing," Li said in a telephone interview. In addition to the 75 confirmed dead, there were 14 people missing and 459 injured, the central government's China Earthquake Administration said. Damage was worst in Min county in Dingxi's rural southern portion, where scores of homes were damaged and telephone and electricity services knocked out, Dingxi Mayor Tang Xiaoming told state broadcaster CCTV. All but three of the deaths, all the missing and most of the injured were in Min, a likely result of shoddy construction. Residents said the shaking lasted about one minute, but wasn't strong enough to cause major damage in urban areas, where buildings are more solidly built. "You could see the chandeliers wobble and the windows vibrating and making noise, but there aren't any cracks in the walls. Shop assistants all poured out onto the streets when the shaking began," said a front desk clerk at the Wuyang Hotel in the Zhang County seat about 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the epicenter. The clerk surnamed Bao refrained from identifying herself further, as is common among ordinary Chinese. Tremors were felt in the provincial capital of Lanzhou 177 kilometers (110 miles) north, and as far away as Xi'an, 400 kilometers (250 miles) to the east. The government's earthquake monitoring center said the initial quake at 7:45 a.m. (2345 GMT Sunday) was magnitude-6.6 and subsequent tremors included a magnitude-5.6. The quake was shallow, which can be more destructive. The center said it struck about 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) beneath the surface, while the Gansu provincial earthquake administration said it was just 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) deep. The U.S. Geological Survey measured the magnitude of the initial quake as 5.9 and the depth at 10 kilometers (6 miles). Initial measurements of an earthquake can vary widely, especially if different monitoring equipment is used. Su Wei, leader of a 120-member rescue team from the paramilitary People's Armed Police, told state broadcaster CCTV that they were on their way to the epicenter, but progress was being slowed by mud and rock slides blocking the road. The Chinese Red Cross said it was shipping 200 tents, 1,000 sets of household items, and 2,000 jackets to the area and sending teams from both Lanzhou and Beijing to help with relief work and assess further needs. Heavy rain is expected in the area later in the week, raising the need for shelter and increasing the chance of further landslides. Almost 2,000 homes were either destroyed or heavily damaged, with thousands more suffering partial damage, according to the Dingxi government website. It said 14,066 households were without power and five county and township roads had been cut. Gansu province, a region of mountains, desert and pastureland with a population of 26 million, is one of China's more lightly populated provinces, although the New Jersey-sized area of Dingxi has a greater concentration of farms in rolling hills terraced for crops and fruit trees. Dingxi has a total population of about 2.7 million. China's worst earthquake in recent years was a 7.9-magnitude temblor that struck the southwestern province of Sichuan in 2008, leaving 90,000 people dead or missing.

The Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa may like his music fast-paced and energetic, but when he talks, he wants you to listen, and listen carefully. Timaya, while trying to explain the points of his argument during a live programme at Blaze FM, Nnewi, was rushed off a question one time too many. The artiste didn't find that amusing and he made his feelings known on air. An act of arrogance and pride most people call it, but it seems as if the artiste knows where he is heading when he cut his host off saying, "Why do you journalists (OAPs) always cut people off? You ask one question and won't allow people to 'land' before asking another." The host of the show, JJ, graciously allowed the artiste to have the microphone and voice out his mind. Well, it was during the interview that Limpopo King, KCee who was also being interviewed, announced that he would soon be dropping a new single with his 'partner on the streets', Timaya. He also used the opportunity to tell his fans that Limpopo means 'Let's have fun'. "It's a 'feel good song' and I really appreciate how my fans have so quickly taken to it," he said.

Culled from Sunnewsonline.com Until June 23, not many could have suspected that all was not well between Emeka Agu, 28, and his pregnant girlfriend, Miss Bidemi Akinsolufe. That night, disaster struck in their home in Ayobo area of Lagos, as Emeka allegedly set his lover ablaze. The reason? To prevent the lady from charming other men with her beauty. Nearly a month after, Bidemi still writhes in pain at the Gbagada General Hospital, even as Emeka awaits his date with the law. The reporter met the badly burnt lady on her hospital bed and she narrated what led to the sad incident. “I started dating him last year but my boyfriend is very jealous. Even whenever my sister called me, he would want to call back to be sure it wasn’t a man that called me. “He was working before and had his own place but he later lost his job and had no place to stay. I secured a mini-flat in Ayetoro and asked him to join me there. We had been living together since then. “Recently, when I took in, he asked me to stop working and I did. But he drinks a lot. He spends his money on alcohol and I always told him that I was worried that his liver might be destroyed. He doesn’t trust me; he thinks I date other men. “He used to work in the night as a bouncer in a hotel. The day before he set me on fire, his former boss had summoned him and I thought maybe the man wanted to offer him a job. So, on the morning of that day, Sunday, June 23, I called him to know if he had gone to the man’s place. As we were speaking on the phone, he told me he was already high. And I asked him why he should spend his money on alcohol when I was hungry at home. “I was angry, so I went to report him to his friend. His friend then called him and talked some sense into him. But when he knew that I was with his friend, he became angry and accused his friend of sleeping with me. He said he would suck my blood for sleeping with his friend. I was even explaining to him that I couldn’t be sleeping around with my pregnancy but he wasn’t convinced. He began to call me names, that I was a useless woman. He later said it was all right, that he wasn’t angry again. So, I went back home. “When I got back home, one of my friends told me that Emeka had reported me to her, saying I locked him outside in the rain. So, when I got to our apartment, I begged him and my friend also begged him. He said he was no longer angry but I didn’t know he still had plans to deal with me. “After a while, he pretended as if he wanted to go to the toilet and while walking past me, he suddenly gave me a terrible slap. Then he began to beat me. In fact, I had never been so thoroughly beaten since I was born. He had only slapped me on two earlier occasions. That night, I was yelling for help but I guessed people weren’t hearing me outside. I was crying and threatening to pack out of the apartment. “Then he said he would destroy my beauty. But I didn’t believe he would do anything so devilish. Then he went to the kitchen, brought out the stove and poured the kerosene on me. He lit a match and threw it at me and I was burning. I rushed to the kitchen to get water but he was pushing the buckets of water away. I was yelling and crying. Then after some time, he began to say to me: ‘My babe, your face is burnt, I’m sorry.’ “I didn’t even know that my face was badly burnt. I initially thought my hands were the only parts affected until much later when I saw my face in the mirror. “When he realised the damage he had done, he began to beg me, saying he would marry me. He said I should stay inside, that he would go and get raw pap to apply on the burnt parts of my body. But as he wanted to go out of the apartment, I followed him. He said he wasn’t running away, that he just wanted to get the pap and get back. And I said okay, but I was following him. He kept pushing me back but I insisted on following him out. Later, one of our neighbours, a man, knocked on our door and asked what was wrong with me. He replied that there was no problem but I shouted that the man should come in to save my life. I told the man that the door wasn’t locked, that he should push it. Eventually other neighbours came and pushed the door open and I immediately ran outside so that everyone could see me. I think that was when I passed out.” After she lost consciousness, some of her neighbours quickly rushed her to the nearest hospital from where she was transferred to the Gbagada General Hospital. Meanwhile, the neighbours also alerted the police in Ayobo, who came to arrest Emeka. Bidemi also told the reporter: “He told me it was the devil’s handiwork but I know God would repay him. I leave everything to God. I have been hospitalised here now since then, and my people have been spending money on me.” “Initially, I thought no man would want me any longer since he had destroyed my face. But my people said no, that they wouldn’t allow me near him again. They said he should write an undertaking that he wouldn’t come after me but I’ve been told that, even with an undertaking, he might still try to harm me. I will have the baby but he must never ask for my child. I want him to face the music. I want justice to be done.” Bidemi’s mother, Mrs. Nike Adeyemi, also spoke with the reporter. Said she: “Some good neighbours took my daughter to a nearby hospital and asked her boyfriend to stay with her there. They then secretly invited policemen to arrest him. We are already in court.” “I have spent all I have to treat my daughter. None of Emeka’s people has paid a dime out of the heavy hospital bills. We have spent over N200, 000 now and we are still spending. The doctor said we would need, at least, N500, 000 for comprehensive treatment for my daughter because her face and hands have been badly burnt. You can see the wounds are still looking fresh even after over three weeks. I don’t even have any money for her treatment any more. I’m so fed up. One of Emeka’s sisters came to me with policemen from Ikoyi. She offered to pay me N40, 000 so that the boy would be released. I refused to collect the money because I said it was even an insult for her to offer that little amount when we were being asked to bring N500, 000. “I don’t even know where to turn to for help. Please, help me beg compassionate Nigerians to come to our aid. I don’t want my daughter to die. I think we will also have to do something about her pregnancy because I don’t ever want her to have anything to do with that boy any longer.” The reporter spoke with Emeka’s sister, who allegedly offered N40, 000 to Bidemi’s family. Her words: “I don’t know what to do again. I didn’t know when Emeka and Bidemi started their friendship. I didn’t send him to set the girl ablaze. I’m even tired of everything. I am a widow myself and I don’t have money. I have even used the N40, 000 that I offered her to take care of some other issues. I’m tired of the whole issue and I don’t know what to do.”

Benedict Cumberbatch plays the Australian Julian Assange while Daniel Bruhl takes on the role of Assange's first partner and friend, Daniel Domscheit-Berg. While the trailer seems to fall victim to somewhat unclear timeline issues, something that plagued the recent Wikileaks documentary, We Tell Secrets, with Bill Condon behind the camera, the concerns should be few. The man behind such great films like Kinsey and even the Breaking Dawn movies, there's little doubt The Fifth Estate will be on par with other movies released this fall. Perhaps the most interesting thing to watch going forward however, will be the circus that still surrounds Assange and the Wikileaks organization. Holed up in the Ecuadorean embassy after having rape charges brought against him, Assange has spoken out saying The Fifth Element is a propaganda attack against both Wikileaks and himself. The Fifth Estate opens on October 11th. - See more at: http://www.thehollywoodgossip.com/2013/07/the-fifth-estate-trailer-benedict-cumberbatch-is-julian-assange/#sthash.LX9FUVj8.dpuf
