Car Talk / Re: Window Winder Conversion by rockiedink(m): 6:56pm On Jan 24, 2016
Siena:
For those complaining of electric window mechanisms going bad, how about manual versions? They too seize up with age. I suppose with this analogy, the next time your electric window mechanisms stop working, you'll all convert to manual operation.

For those who wish to convert to electric operation, it's easier if you buy used OEM parts from a dead car. In this case, you'll need the electric mechanisms, switches and wiring harness from a 2004-2009 Toyota Corolla. The 2006 Corolla is part-wired for electric window operation, meaning the plugs the OEM wiring harness plugs into is already in place.

The OEM electric window mechanisms are simple bolt-on affairs, the doors have the corresponding holes in place.

You'll need to plug in a fuse and relay in the vacant positions. Any decent technician should be able to get this done. Estimated time? 3 hours.

Every time you comment, I'm always impressed with the way you clearly articulate your thoughts and points that even Dumbo can follow your instructions. Bros come and setup a shop in Nigeria; I will personally ditch my Toyota and move to Audi...which BTW I still intend to do in the not too distant future...I love the A6...

Thanks. Will a scan help narrow down the problem?

If it's a problem in your fuel supply line...perhaps not...

But hey, if you have access to scanner, get it checked...it could throw up things you never knew.

If you're in or around Akilo road, Ogba, hit me up, I might help with a scan...that's if you don't have access to one.

I believe that vehicle is the Suzuki APV...

Powered by a 1.6l engine generating 92bhp...

Very popular internationally as an all-round multipurpose vehicle...cargo or passenger movements and very good fuel economy...

C & I Leasing are authorised dealers for Suzuki in Nigeria...

Logistics is the magic word.

I can plan for the cost of purchasing oem parts and shipping but once thing get to the ports Nigeria happens.
I was willing to start with some loss but not lose everything as things will likely turn out.

So I was informed its better I find buyers negotiate price and find a way to ship it in below cost.

Now try finding buyers in the 419 riddled place. A couple of stories will discourage many.

still hoping though will try again this year.

Imagine being able to ship and install tires in a tire and break shop (not used) Those are the most frequent service needed when combine with a lube job

That just sounds so wrong...in sooo many ways... grin grin grin

The carb breathes better and becomes more efficient. Conditions for both tests are not the same. Better still you could repeat both tests again to be sure.

Good point...and while you're it, switch the order around...use the treated mix first, then a normal mix afterwards...to sort of balance it out... undecided

Av not been able to access a mechanic yet, coz today being Sunday. But I was thinking, could it be a wet spark plug problem? Can the fuel pump suddenly go bad without the preceeding signs of jerking and misfiring? Just thinking out loud though. It's not my field.

You have a point there...I'm tending towards the sensor or a problem with your fuel pressure line as kingreign said...

Egunmogaji, you wan start your own shop ni?

Personally, I'd like to see authentic bodyshops where I can take my ride and get dream body layouts...flames, stripes, graffiti...

Then also, I'd like to see a growth of performance outlets; whose focus is tuning your engine to eke every single bit of bhp and torque out of the engine...like we have in Europe.

And finally, a growth of kit car providers...

Ah...bliss!!!

I dunno if it's the same guy...

But I got the same deal sometime last year for a Toyota 4Runner...

I wasn't pleased at all!

The didn't fit the door seals properly, so once it rains, it starts raining in the car...till date one of the doors doesn't close properly except you use incredible hulk force...The paint has developed bubbles all over the bonnet and begun flaking off...

Kai! I regretted giving it to them it was a guy called Kunle. Methinks his boys don't saving work well...

I have however bought at least 4 different oven-baked deals on Dealdey...

I've got best finishes from one chap at Opebi and another chap at Olusosun mechanic village Ojota.

Obviously this odometer has been rolled back...

That's a car about 10 years old...with the old Naija number...

Definitely a rollback.

Car Talk / Re: How Much Mileage Is Too Much Mileage? by rockiedink(m): 6:55pm On Jan 11, 2016
Divinelove just said it all.

I own a 2003 V6 Toyota Camry....

My odometer is well over 200k miles...

But if you fit, come and try my car on the road...I'll leave you in my dust wondering what happened! And despite it being that high on mileage and a V6, I average 17mpg! I've seen 'younger cars that only dream of that consumption level!

Maintenance history is the critical thing. Get that right and you can't go wrong.

I know they do things because they can!

But again - you will have to understand my question properly. This is not an issue of who can or not.

Would you rather fix your car 10 times at the rate of 10 million naira each or would you simply buy a new one for 100 million?

I would suppose that even people who CAN would rather buy a new one for 100 million. It's just common sense.

Now, my question comes back to this - assuming a Nigerian who buys a buggati veryron know he would spend up to 20 million fixing the car each time it has an issue, and there is a chance that he would have to fix the car at least 10 times - if he knows this information already, would he rather buy a new car than fix an existing one? That's the crux of my question - Are the owners likely to buy a new car? Are they going to keep spending money fixing an exisiting car knowing fully well that they can simply buy a new one? Or are they most likely to simply dump the car in their garage and conclude that it is not worth fixing?

I am already assuming that those who buy these car have a lot of resources to throw around.

There's the answer to your question...given by you!
Car Talk / Re: [photos] Supercars Spotted In Lagos by rockiedink(m): 9:42am On Jan 11, 2016
bookface:

The point I am trying to understand is not whether these guys have the money to fix their cars - that is granted - my point is to focus on the rationality of doing so.

Your estimate tells me that it doesn't make sense. Let's assume they would need to fix their cars - from full scale service to the simplest electrical fixes - at the cost of 10 million each time. Then by the 10th time, they would have spent 100 million and would have been better off buying a new car in the first place. This tells me that this behavior cannot be considered rational.

Except of course, there are specialist that can do these things effectively in Nigeria. Which brings me back to my original question - who are these specialist and where are they located.

Bros I understand you.

But first you should realise that these billionaires don't do these things because "they should" but because "THEY CAN"!!!

We've seen pictures of a 'richie' who use a gold-plated flush bowl in his loo... does it make sense? NO! Can he do it? YES!

The average billionaire has multiple houses...even in the same locality. Does he need them? NO! Can he buy them? YES!

The big boy wey get one of the biggest telcos in Naija plus oil company join...you know how many houses he get for Banana Island? And VI? Many of them he no dey live inside and he no rent am out; I even heard that one day he was being driven along the road somewhere in VI and he saw a house he liked and he called his acquisitions team and said "Buy that house for me." when acquisitions started their findings to purchase the house, lo and behold, na him gan gan get house! Tell me, did he need the house? NO! Could he buy the house? YES! Times over!

So my dear brother, there's a level these people get to where they do things not because they should do them, but because they can do them. Rationality is alien to them because the 'substance' is there!

Lexus' LFA supercar is, or was, the most exclusive vehicle ever built by the world's largest automobile manufacturer – only 500 of the exotic carbon fiber 200 mph V10s will be sold at US$375,000 apiece. Now the racetrack-focused "LFA Nürburgring Package" is set to be revealed. Only 50 such 562 bhp vehicles will be produced with revised aerodynamics and technical refinements designed to fine-tune the exotic two-seat sports coupe to be capable of lapping the fabled Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit under 7:20.
