Christianity Etc › Saudi Arabia, Vatican Agree To Build Christian Churches In The Kingdom by Roger3D(op): 3:58pm On May 05, 2018
Saudi Arabia reportedly agreed to a historic deal with the Vatican to build Christian churches in the Kingdom, a potentially stunning development for the country that's home to Islam’s holiest site, Middle Eastern media is reporting.

The move would continue the nation’s effort to transition to a “moderate Islam.”

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdel Karim Al-Issa of the Muslim World League and Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, president of the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Inter-religious Dialogue, allegedly signed the agreement April 14, according to the Egyptian Independent.

Under the agreement, a joint committee with representatives from both parties will also be established to organize future meetings, which will alternate between Rome and a city chosen by the Islamic World League.

"During my meetings, I insisted very much…that Christians and non-Muslims are spoken of well in schools and that they are never considered second-class citizens," Tauran told the Vatican News, adding that he believes Saudi authorities wanted "to show that even in Saudi Arabia there is the possibility of discussion, and therefore of changing the country's image."

Tauran’s trip was also the first time the Saudi king met with such a high-profile official from the Vatican.

Inspired by the rigorous doctrine of Wahhabism, Saudi Arabia is the only country in the region that bans the building of churches and all forms of open Christian worship. Home to Islam’s holiest sites, Mecca and Medina, the move would no doubt spark outrage among Islamic hardliners. But the Vatican has urged the country to build Christian churches since a large number of foreign workers who identify as Christian are now forced to cross the border to find places where they can worship.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has been pushing a reform agenda called Vision 2030, aimed at weaning the country off oil and introducing social changes, such as permitting public concerts, building movie theaters and allowing women to drive.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a sit-at-home order, to be carried out on 30 May, across the five states of the South-East geo-political zone in memory of those killed in the Nigerian Civil War.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by Mr. Emma Powerful, the group’s Publicity Secretary. According to IPOB, there will be no vehicular, human or animal movement in the five states of the South-East zone on the day, which was instituted by the group for the remembrance of fallen Biafran soldiers.

Towards the remembrance, IPOB advised churches, mosques, synagogues and other places of worship to open at midnight on 29 May for special midnight prayers in memory of those killed in the struggle. It added that a special vigil will be held at the homes of select Biafran heroes. The group also called on the people of Southern Kaduna, Middle Belt zone, especially Benue, Adamawa and Kogi states, as well as those affected by Fulani herdsmen terrorism in the South-West to observe a day of prayers and join in the sit-at-home to remember those that lost their lives unlawfully at the hands of Fulani herdsmen and security agencies.

IPOB stated that it was the sacrifice of those killed in the civil war that has made it possible for the current generation of Nigerians to be alive.

“We owe our heroes of the class of 67-70 an incalculable debt of gratitude and shall honour them annually until the end of time. We shall never forget them

“We shall also remember all victims of Fulani herdsmen attacks, Boko Haram violence and those that died at the hands of Nigerian security agencies over the years that nobody remembers.

“We are calling on all the people of Southern Kaduna, Middle Belt especially Benue, Adamawa, Kogi, those affected by herdsmen terrorism in Ondo and other states in Yorubaland to join the great family of IPOB in observing a day of solemn prayer and sit-at-home to remember those that lost their lives unlawfully at the hands of Fulani terrorist herdsmen and security agencies.

“This year's remembrance will be special because it will present a unique moment of shared pains and misery for all the families that lost their loved ones to war, hunger, disease and terrorism,” the group stated.

It called on all families of its members in the Diaspora to rally on the streets of the countries their residence and submit petitions to the nearest United Nation offices and embassies of foreign missions in such countries.

“As our freedom draws near this year, our 30 May sit-at-home and total lock down of Biafraland will be remarkable. The whole world is looking up to IPOB which, through the grace of the most high God, will deliver Biafra and all other oppressed peoples of Northern and Western Nigeria from bondage into freedom,” said IPOB.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, May 3, 2018 secured the conviction of Ikechukwu Elom Awoke before Justice A. Y. Sanya of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri, on a 2-count amended charge bordering on conspiracy and cheating to tune of N350,000 (three hundred and fifty thousand naira).

He was sentenced to six months imprisonment with option of fine of N50,000 for conspiracy on count one and eighteen months imprisonment with option of fine of N50,000 for cheating on count two.

The case was triggered by a petition dated August 16, 2017 by one Noami Wanya, who claimed she met the convict through the Facebook, and in the process entered into a relationship with the aim of marrying each other.

In the course of the relationship, Awoke fraudulently obtained N350,000 from the petitioner through his account domiciled in one of the old generation banks, prompting the victim to petition the EFCC. The offence is contrary to and punishable under Sections 320 (a) and 322 of the Penal Code Law Cap 102, Laws of Borno State.

Awoke pleaded guilty to the two counts and was convicted and sentenced by the court after a review of the facts of the case.

Go check their drug addiction rates. It isn't zero. The capital punishment would have been great if it reduced drug trafficking to zero. There are still loads of drugs being sold in Manila, Pattaya, bangkok and pattaya.

Forget the Nigerians (or is it Biafrans) who are caught smuggling drugs into south east asia. The real drug lords fly whole full shipments into the air space and land them there. Those ones are rarely caught but they take advantage of the very high drug prices in Asia to market their merchandize.
Nobody said anything about reducing trafficking to a zero. That would be an impossibility. Its to serve as a deterrent and also rid the planet of one more dealer.
Celebrities › Re: Seun Kuti Reacts To Ban Of Codeine. - Talks On Status Of Cannabis In Nigeria by Roger3D(m): 1:22pm On May 03, 2018
einsteine:
I am not a supporter of capital punishment for crimes like drug trafficking. Aside from murder, there's no rarely a reason for capital punishment. Execute all the drug dealers in the world, it doesn't solve the problem. China occasionally executes people for corruption. Yet, China is way more corrupt than the US. It is important to understand that punishment does not deter people from committing crimes. What does is removing the conditions necessary for the successful commission of these crimes. For the codeine issue, get people engaged in work so they are not so idle they have to spend all day being high. Tighten the border to track the entry of controlled substances. Proactive measures to stop drug trafficking.

Capital punishment is an ancient relic that has been confined to the dustbin of history because it does not work.

Of course, if you are more interested in blood lust than solving the actual problem, then your call.

@ bold, only idiots resort to ad hominem attacks during discussions.
Capital punishment for drug crimes in south east Asian countries has brought about some positive results. The world will be a much better place with one less drug dealer

Lol. There is dealth penalty for drug trafficking in Indonesia. Yet they have more drug addicts than America. The more you legislate against supply, the richer the drug dealers. Laws such as those actually help the dealers. Until people stop taking the drugs, it would continue to be supplied. End of story.
Oga what do you care if drug smugglers are executed for their crimes? Or are you one of them?

We also want the national assembly to as a matter of urgency pass a law mandating the death penalty for anyone caught smuggling the drug into the country else this ban will not work
