LOL Adim eje na igbo thread nairaland. Ebe ka ino fu ihe m dere?

Anywayz, I'm just speaking for myself, if these people live in Anambra obviously their parents MUST know igbo and should speak it to them at home. I'm originally from Anambra but I wasn't born or bred there, I learned igbo at home. Nevertheless, the bill is a good idea quite alright but people should already know their languages without learning it in school. If people in the city like Lagos can speak and write igbo, why can't the ones in Anambra? huh
Gini mere na inaghi abata na igbo thread ? ifere isu igbo na public of igwe mmadu o na aso gi? ihe anyi n'eme na igbo thread bu ikwalite omenala (omenana) igbo elu nyere aka me ka ndi ozo nwe uchu n'ihe gbasara ide na isu igbo.

Because our parents suffer from colonial mentality like Mr. Knowall, How can one explain the outright prohibition of igbo language in classes? Beats my imagination. We are so backward as a people and to make it worse we don't even know who we are.
PoliticsRe: Anambra's Igbo Language Bill by romeo(m): 5:55pm On Jun 04, 2009
KnowAll:
Of course 10 million Soyinkas will not be appreciated in a backward backwater which your semi illiterate law makers are trying to create because arts and theatre which is held in high esteem and revered in most advance society will be seeing as irrelevant and inconsequential to a subsistence hungry people. There only focus will be how to and where to find the next meal. The Intelligentsia who are meant to guide this hungry and vulnerable people are feeding from the same white man’s hand and speaking the same white man’s language more than the natives. It is well documented that the Igbos in America have the highest Phd amongst all African tribes yet these same people want to deny the opportunities to their country folks, It will appear that some of your people take pride in seeing their kith and kin wallow in abject poverty I wonder whether it brings some sort of joy or maybe they get there kicks from what most people will consider as a selfish and inconsiderate behaviour.

Dude wake up!! This is a no brainer. Igbo people should know how to read and write in their language if you wouldn't mind.

sorry for your stress!

You should have migrated to an English speaking country!
I am planning on that. But i'd need Spanish citizenship before i will move out from this country and i am due for that after 10 years of legal residency. To make movement easy or status genuine elsewhere.

Thanks for your concern Tpiah tongue kiss

No, but I'm sure their parents speak their native tongue at home. It's not only spoken to them during a class setting. I don't live in an igbo setting either, neither was igbo taught to me at school. I learned it at HOME. It's still a matter of personal choice. If one is determined to learn or not learn a particular language, then that's what it will be.
Nne gbanyuo oku!! O bughi tata ka m matara onye i bu, Lota kwa na enwere ebe anyi n'ede igbo na nairaland.

It's a matter of personal choice if a native english speaker decides to learn more languages and it should not be a matter of personal choice if a native English citizen can not speak or write his/her language. IT'S A SHAME!!!.

Native igbos must know how to read and write in igbo language and it should not be a matter of choice but compulsory. A particular language indeed! Not my igbo ofcourse.
PoliticsRe: Anambra's Igbo Language Bill by romeo(m): 11:28pm On Jun 03, 2009
This is a good idea!! Non-igbos living and studying in igboland should learn igbo language from nursery to secondary school level.

@Chiogo
You can speak igbo language because you learned at home but you can't write or read igbo language embarassed
Don't you think that is enough reason to make the language compulsory in igboland.

I could remember the days of Grace Ubesie and her brother Tony!! Their Igbo novels were simply fantastic and i read their books, so did my friends. Igbo novels anyone?  No way because i want my kids to be queen queen oyoyo

Igbo Language must be compulsory in Igbo states. If you don't like it stay away from Igboland.

I am living in Spain and i must learn and pass Catalan to gain addmission into the Balearic University of Mallorca
Note: Not castellan language which is the national Language in spain and of which i am very fluent with. If i want to learn in castellan language i must have to move out from my base of over 10 years and start from scratch again or stick to mallorca and learn their Catalan language which is used 50/50 with the Spanish national lingo in academic activities. From secondary school down is strictly Catalan. Mallorcan signs and posts are in catalan

Reason, they are saving their language and culture.
