eleven: This topic is really interesting and touchy no doubt because Nigerians have never really learnt to be free thinkers. We need to look at issues more realistically and not celestially.
The issues of man of GOD is seen as sensitive because of the high level of poverty in the country now and hopelessness with our government making the pastor (motivational speakers) hot in the market.
Nigeria is a typical example of the "poor man seeing himself wiser than the rich man" because to him the rich man is wasting money on useless projects which he spends for his personal comfort.
Someone here liken baba Adeboye to Macdonalds in term of success. Yes I agree but to some extent because both are lead players in their chosen line of business, papa Adeboye sells Hope to a hopeless Nigerians while Macdonalds sells food to hungry people. Both meet their consumers needs well, however the only difference is that while Macdonalds re-invest some of its capital in raw materials, Pastor Adeboye doesn't!
To liken baba to Martin Luther King that I DISAGREE 100% they are not comparable. MLK is visionary who sacrificed for the black race. He spoke the truth when it mattered most, he spoke against racism at a time when no one dare to speak. He did this to the detriment of his own life! and today the world celebrate him in US President-Elect Obama. Baba on his own part dines with our tomentors and even prays for them!
The only reverend that can be compared slightly with Martins Luther King in Nigeria now is Cardinal Anthony Okogie because of his perceived stands with the people.
Before you hate me. I go to church but I do so with my eyes and mind wide opened. Church and GOD exist is in my heart and not with the man on the pulpit. |

GettysBurg: Let me ask you Romeo, what have you contributed to Nigeria in all your existence? Except probably contributing your quota in some strange country, washing plates, doing menial stuff, etc.
Man, get real. What do you mean by freedoms? Who told you universities were designed for freedoms? Didnt you realise that universities were actually meant to deprive you of your 'freedoms', in order to give you a new reality? What with the self denials, the long hours given to study and research, the disciplines and rigors of the acedemia? Not phrases synonymous with the careless kind of freedoms you are alluding to.
You probably didn't go to a university. If so, then i'm sorry for being hard on you. Your dumbness will not let you know that those people that "wash plates" in some strange countries send home way too many money to Nigeria. Now that's a contribution to the Nigeria economy. I didn't know what freedom meant until i left the shores of Nigeria, Educational institutions should not be like military barracks. Learning in a University should be pure fun and not the contrary. Back in 2007 i went to one of those "quack" Universities belonging to a popular mega pastor and i was astonished that the person i came to visit could not come out to see me until the permition came from the chief security at the gate and our meeting was monitored for the 30 minutes i was granted to see the person. I was Horrified. And you call that education? The sub standard university is not even close to the size of my former secondary school back in Nigeria and in the same city. I blame ignorant parents for that. Those mega pastors can channel their energy in promoting theological institutions or whatever. But all they do is discredit the main institutions of higher learning for their own selfish interests. Building universities every here and there churning out half baked "graduates" like you that doesn't know what freedom means and the importance of it. Ask Nigerians that came here to do their Masters the difference between studying in Nigeria and outside Nigeria, Socially and academically. The gap is too much, thanks to the mindset of people like you. |

GettysBurg: @ all,
I am shocked at our responses to this post, to say the least.
Someone said here that that's not biblical. We crave change, yet we see people who have made outstanding sucess in their fields, and rather choose to mock them. i'm shocked, and conclude that Nigeria may never change, if what i hear or see on nairaland is a guage of the opinion pulse of the average nigerian.
Seems u never knew that Martin Luther was a baptist preacher? What kind of criteria do we really have for one that will sucessfully lead nigeria? Unfortunately, we have none. It' so obvious.
Pastor Adeboye is an example of a sucessful man in whatsoever field he has chosen. As scientist, his record is there for all to see. He doesnt lead dummies. His members and pastors are mainly sucessful people, and his church model is unique. It is no mean feat to establish your organisation in almost all countries of the world. I have been in some strange corners abroad, and have seen the RCCG signpost at such places. No mean feat, my friends. Think of a man whose organisation drew the attention of Prince Charles of England, to the extent he had his birthday at the RCCG.
If he were owner of Mr Biggs, or tantalizers, they will be like MacDonalds in all probability.
See friends, we criticise our own best. Check out for yourselves who has made the greatest impact in Education. Adeboye, and other preachers like him have most of the private universities. Covenant, Redeemers, Babcock, BIU, etc etc.
I tire for us sef. See how sentimental and subjective we are in our arguments. Hardly intelligent, except for a few. Nigerians and dumbness Those Universities you mentioned are nothing but Jails. There are no freedoms of any sort there. Next time you travel out from Nigeria, mix up with people and stop searching for RCCG sign posts. It will do you and Nigeria more good. |

Jakumo and romeo don't belong to your school of thought. We sort of think differently; some think too crazy and never give a second thought of what they type.
@ Poster , Is this Topic All You Can Give. Why comparing a Pastor to such when u probably knows nothing about him. Has he declared his intention to be the next president. Talking about school of thought , I am leagues away from you and yemmyse's school of thought. Rogues like that man are the kind of people Fashola should be closing their bizness for tax evasion and not poor Computer Village lads. If 60% of Nigerians know what freedom of speech means, I bet we would've been in a better society. Ignoramuses |

lucabrasi: here we go again, this same computer village that was started by yoruba guys, yet they didnt complain when majority ibo men took control neither did they riot, now they imprted trailers of computers and laptops doing their businesses paying the necessary tariffs abroad failing to pay the government even after several warnings and ultimatums,YET you didnt complain about all these then untill the government did the right thing,so you ll have preffered them doing their business without paying their taxes because they are ibo right?? how come the ibo majority don't shift computer village to the south east if they are that scared? after all their's a copy of alaba and isale eko on iweka road. Did anybody stop the "Yoruba pioneers" from selling in computer village? They where forced out with a healthy competition!! How is one going to riot when you willfully sold your slot to ready buyers? Except they harbour hate!! News!!! Igbo people don't pay Tax, but the rest of Naija peeps do Give Onitsha a well deserved port and ask me that question again about shifting computer village to South-east. lucabrasi: same as ladipo, they refused to clean up the dirt spilling onto government roads, street trading all these insult upon injury whil;e refusing to pay taxes and they are making money yet you don't see anything wrong it the market being closed, again after repeated warnings and ultimatums, dude, this blind tribal patriotism is getting to be something else, ask anyone living in germany,if you spill a drop of oil on government road you will pay a fine, same as uk talk less of heaps of rubbish on government roads while still refusing to pay tax Who should clean up dirt? the government or the traders? If you fail to provide an adequate waste collecting strategy in a community, the end result would be a littered street. Even in the US. White house The same Germany that will fine you for spilling oil on the road provided alternatives for disposing waste. Abeg tell me who is in charge of waste in Manchester. Bunch of tribal bigots lucabrasi: you can check the nigerian news and see the south east conference orji kalu/sun newspapers organised, and you can find out the part nnamani and other south easterners played or you didnt know south easterners were zoned the senate presidency ?? Yeah David Mark is from Enugu!! Orji Kalu is the one organising the South-east Govs.? 2008? |

Alaba under threat Computer village closed and re-opened after hefty loss. I am confussed. Igbos are not safe anywhere in this Nigeria except in our Region |
