Iheanacho Transfer Saga: Amuneke Slaps, Beats Up American Football Agent An American football agent, Henry Galliano, was on Monday evening assaulted by a Nigerian coach, Emmanuel Amuneke , at the Rockview Hotel, Owerri, the Imo State capital. The assault, which happened at about 6:00 p.m. was caused by the decision of Golden Eaglets star, Kelechi Iheanacho, to choose Galliano as his agent ahead of one recommended by Amuneke. As agent, Galliano would be responsible for arranging club transfer deals for Ihenacho, a member of the world-conquering Golden Eaglets. Iheanacho was selected by FIFA as the best player of the just-concluded FIFA U17 World Cup in the UAE. He has since been linked to top European clubs including FC Porto and Manchester City. Iheanacho has signed an agent deal officially with Galliano with a copy of the agreement sent to the secretariat of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF. The agent also confirmed that a copy of the agreement with Iheanacho was submitted to the NFF on October 21. In a chat with a source, Galliano and his Nigerian partner, Solomon Oluwaseun, accused Amuneke of assault; and threatened to press charges against him. They said the coach invited them for a meeting before he got angry, saying that his (Amuneke’s chosen) agent must be the one to handle Iheanacho’s transfer. “The coach invited us, we went to see him and he started threatening Kelechi that he should follow him to Abuja to sign with his agent who is working with a Nasiru Jubril, a staff of the NFF; or else Nasiru, the man in charge of the ITC (International Transfer Certificate), will not release kelechi’s ITC to him and they will both make sure that he is banned from Nigeria football; also he will not get a good club. “When the agent tried to talk back, the coach slapped him and beat him up in the presence of over 25 people,” Solomon said. In his comment, Galliano said he only came to Nigeria to take Iheanacho abroad for club engagement; and he didn’t know why the coach threatened him. “I came here to take Kelechi to his club. FC Porto and Manchester City are interested in him but Manchester City has a better package. This was our discussion and conclusion when Mr. Amuneke sent for me, and asked me to go back to my cousin. “He called me names, beat me up and embarrassed me, he said it’s impossible to just take his players,” Galliano said while accusing Amuneke of racial statements. Galliano, an American, said Keshi ordered Ihenacho to follow him to Abuja and also threatened him; which made the boy to burst into tears and went away. “Kelechi is nowhere to be found, he started crying after the threat made against him, the small boy is afraid and I hope he will not lose hope. “Amuneke said he will delay his ITC and deal with him, he called vulgar words, cursing the boys and the players,” he said. When Reporters tried to speak to Iheanacho, but his phone was switched off. His father, when contacted, declined comment. Amuneke, a Nations Cup winner in 1994 with the Super Eagles, and current assistant coach of the Golden Eaglets, confirmed that he assaulted the American. When contacted on phone, an angry Amuneke confirmed that he slapped Galliano. He threatened to beat him up again whenever he sees him. He, however, denied being involved in the player’s possible transfer. “Yes, of course I slapped him very well and I will do it again whenever I see him,” Amuneke said. “He is an idiot, useless white man, he wants to come and reap where he didn’t sow. “Kelechi is a nobody; yes, I said we helped him into the team, made him, moulded him into what he is today, he shouldn’t allow anybody to fool him,” the former winger said. When asked the reason for his action and his rumoured roles in Kelechi and other players transfer business, Amuneke said, “I care so much for my players, I am a coach.” “I’m not an agent but I just look out for the boys. He wants to come and sign a player just like that, he’s an idiot, I will not allow him. “Because the boy’s parents are poor and illiterate, he wants to use them. We are Nigerians and we’re not foolish,” he added. Despite Amuneke’s denial, the shady involvement of Nigerian coaches and football officials in the transfer of players to foreign clubs is something muted and known by close observers of Nigerian football. A football website, Goal.com, recently revealed that Super Eagles midfielder, Sunday Mba’s move to a French club, was scuttled because of the financial demands and involvement of Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi, and some officials of the NFF. Mba had been unveiled by the French club, Bastia, before he was forced to return to Nigeria. The NFF also recently suspended a former Secretary General of the Federation, Taiwo Ogunjobi, over the latter’s alleged involvement in the transfer of a Flying Eagles forward, Olanrewaju Kayode. 3:09am Alleged PDP thugs disrupted the proceedings of the Presidential Advisory Committee on National Dialogue/Conference in Benin City yesterday when they stopped Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State and others from making contributions to the ongoing talks. Col Tony Nyiam (rtd), a member of the committee was the arrowhead of the disruption as he shouted down the Governor while making his contribution. The Governor who took the stage to make his contribution shortly after the Isoko Ethnic group had made their contribution said he objected to spending huge public funds on a wasteful venture saying, during the tenure of President Olusegun Obasanjo, money was spent on similar conference and at the end, nothing positive came out of that conference. He said:"I will be surprised if anything changes. Sincerely, I have no business to deceive or mislead anyone. I believe that the outcome of this conference will not be different from that of other conferences we have had in the past." But as soon as Governor Oshiomhole made this statement, committee member, Col Nyiam jumped to his feet and would perhaps have lunged at the Governor were they close enough. He was restrained by other members who were taken aback by his action. Even while the Governor was still making his contribution, Nyiam started screaming at the top of his voice for the Governor to shut up and sit down. He was then joined by alleged PDP thugs who disrupted the whole proceedings and many dashed for safety as a result of the unruliness of the committee member and thugs. The Governor who insisted on concluding his remarks however yielded the floor when the thugs were getting violent and he was booed out of the venue. However, the Governor had a courtesy visit in his office by members of the Committee led by Senator Femi Okurounmu, he insisted he had no faith in the whole process. Oshiomhole said: "...all I owe Nigeria now is to speak my mind. It could be error of my head but certainly not of my heart. As much as I wish you well, I just want to say that I have no faith in this process and I do not think it was necessary at all. I am unable to find any basis to give me some illusion that this exercise will not be different from the others. And I honestly think that in terms of the private sector, when a country keeps debating how we can live together that cannot be one of the basis on which the outside community will invest in Nigeria. They may well wait until we know how we want to live in Nigeria." He lamented that 53-years after independence, Nigerians still prefer to look at themselves from their ethnic origin rather than being Nigerians, saying, "for me, I am just a Nigerian". "I do not think that more than hundred years when we have set aside billions of naira to celebrate the centenary commemorating the amalgamation of the North and Southern Nigeria, and we have lived together as one country for over a hundred years, and we have gone through independence, we have been free for fifty three years and we are coming back to ask the question, how could we be there. I think Nigeria needs to address very serious issues. When I see eminent Nigerians discussing this issue, I am sure they know that Nigeria’s problem is not this politics of sharing which the national dialogue is all about, who is getting what, who has this natural endowment, who should do this or not do this. For me this is the act of perfecting poverty. The real challenge is getting Nigeria back to production. The real challenge is creating industrial base and this cannot be resolved through conferences. We have moved from parliamentary system in our own wisdom to the presidential system. We have test-run it and it was aborted by the military and it has re- incarnated in the present form. Nigeria does need a serious reflection about how to return to those core values that made Nigeria work before. Those healthy competition between the governments, visit the whole question of attitude and unless that changes, I do not see how any dialogue can work." he said. The Governor noted "I was discussing with somebody last week and he noted that this is the eleventh conference and I ask what ten conferences could not do, how would the eleventh one do it? Why do we think we can continue doing the same thing the same old way and think that this time the outcome would be different?" The Governor said nobody convenes a meeting without stating an agenda and asking others to draw up an agenda for that meeting adding "from conception we know we want to talk but we do not know what we want to talk about." Earlier the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on National Dialogue/ Conference, Senator Femi Okurounmu said they were in Benin as part of their visits to the six geo political zones to get their input as regards the content of the agenda, the duration, choice of delegation and legal framework. http:// www.allaroundgist.com/2013/10/ adams-oshiomhole-escapes- being-lynch.html#more http://www.youtube.com/wat |

http://www.punchng.com/business/business-economy/imported-cars-reps-differ-on-higher-tariff-policy/ You are here: Home / Business / Business & Economy / Imported cars: Reps differ on higher tariff policy Imported cars: Reps differ on higher tariff policy October 17, 2013 by John Ameh 17 Comments Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila Two members of the House of Representatives on Wednesday held opposing views on the Federal Government’s decision to raise tariff payable on cars imported into the country. The new tariff regime, fallout of the government’s Automotive Industrial Policy Development Plan, implies that Nigerians will pay heavier tariff on cars they import into the country than they are already doing. The aim of the policy is to discourage imports, encourage production by local car assembly plants and drive the supply chain in the country. The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Olusegun Aganga, had indicated two weeks ago that the new tariff regime would kick off on October 4. However, lawmakers failed to agree on the relevance of the policy on Wednesday in Abuja. For example, the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, observed that higher tariff on cars would be an added burden on “impoverished Nigerians.” He also argued that there was nowhere in the world where the government would begin to tax its citizens ahead of a policy that had yet to take off. The lawmaker said he expected that the assembly plants would have taken off and started supplying cars to the market before the government would begin to introduce measures to discourage imports. Besides, Gbajabiamila opposed the idea of the government raising tariff by fiat without recourse to the National Assembly to put in place the necessary legal framework. |
pdp needs blood for 2015 IRS Fokker 100 With 92 Passengers In Emergency Landing At The Kaduna Airport Posted: October 13, 2013 - 16:50 Posted by siteadmin By SaharaReporters, New York An IRS Fokker 100 aircraft with 92 passengers on board nearly crashed upon approach to the Kaduna international airport earlier today. The aircraft was carrying passengers from Lagos to Kaduna when it suddenly developed a hydraulic fault which forced the pilot to activate an emergency landing around 11:00 AM Nigerian time. Efforts to get the ministry of aviation to explain what happened to the aircraft has proved abortive as aides to the minister has not responded to email inquiries. However, some of the passengers who spoke to SaharaReporters said they were alarmed at the sudden drop in altitude as the plane began preparing to land in Kaduna An airport source who pleaded anonymity said all the crew and passengers were safely evacuated, adding however that it was a terrible situation. While the plane remains at the airport. Security has been beefed at the airport and journalists were barred from entering the airport as the time of filing this report. The last incident in Kaduna airport was on 20 August 2010, when a Chanchangi Airlines Flight 334, operated by Boeing 737-200 5N-BIF struck the localizer antenna and landed short of the runway. Several passengers were slightly injured and the aircraft was substantially damaged. Chanchangi Airlines later suspended operations following the accident. http://saharareporters.com/news-page/irs-fokker-100-92-passengers-emergency-landing-kaduna-airpor |
