President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday addressed the gathering of world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States.

President Buhari pledged Nigeria’s solidarity to the United Nations and solicited the support of the international community in tackling global challenges.

On behalf of my country, Nigeria, I congratulate you Mr President on your election and Mr (Antonio) Gutteres on his first General Assembly outing as our Secretary-General. I assure you both of my country’s solidarity and cooperation. You will indeed need the cooperation of all Member States as we are meeting during extra-ordinarily troubled and dangerous times. Let me also thank former Secretary-General Mr Ban ki-Moon for his service to the United Nations and wish him a peaceful retirement.

Mr President, the previous year has witnessed many far-reaching developments. Some of the most significant events include the Iran Nuclear Deal, the Paris Climate Change Agreement and, of grave concern, the North Korean nuclear crisis.

Mr President, I must also commend the UN’s role in helping to settle thousands of innocent civilians caught in the conflicts in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. In particular, we must collectively thank the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany under the commendable leadership of Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Governments of Italy, Greece and Turkey for assisting hundreds of thousands of refugees.

In an exemplary show of solidarity, the international community came together within my own region to assist the countries and communities in the Sahel and the Lake Chad regions to contain the threats posed by Al Qaida and Boko Haram.

We thank the Security Council for visiting the countries of the Lake Chad Basin to assess the security situation and humanitarian needs, and for pledging assistance to rebuild lives and livelihoods. Indeed, in Nigeria, we are providing relief and humanitarian assistance to millions in internally displaced camps and those afflicted by terrorism, drought, floods and other natural disasters.

In the last year, the international community came together to focus on the need for gender equality, youth empowerment, social inclusion, and the promotion of education, creativity and innovation. The frontiers of good governance, democracy including holding free and fair elections, and enthronement of the rule of law are expanding everywhere, especially in Africa.

Our faith in democracy remains firm and unshaken. Our regional organisation ECOWAS came together to uphold democratic principles in The Gambia – as we had done previously in Cote D’Ivoire.

Through our individual national efforts, state institutions are being strengthened to promote accountability, and to combat corruption and asset recovery. These can only be achieved through the international community cooperating and providing critical assistance and material support. We shall also cooperate in addressing the growing transnational crimes such as forced labour, modern day slavery, human trafficking and cybercrime.

Mr President, these cooperative efforts should be sustained. We must collectively devise strategies and mobilise the required responses to stop fleeing ISIS fighters from mutating and infiltrating into the Sahel and the Lake Chad Basin, where there are insufficient resources and response capacity is weak.

This will require strong UN cooperation with regional organisations, such as the African Union, in conflict prevention and management. The UN should continue to take primary leadership of the maintenance of international peace and security by providing, in a predictable and sustainable manner, adequate funding and other enablers to regional initiatives and peacekeeping operations authorized by the Security Council.

Mr President, new conflicts should not make us lose focus on ongoing unresolved old conflicts. For example, several UN Security Council Resolutions from 1967 on the Middle East crisis remain unimplemented. Meanwhile, the suffering of the Palestinian people and the blockade of Gaza continue.

Nigerian musician, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as TuFace, has arrived at the camp for internally displaced persons in Makurdi, the Benue State capital alongside his wife Nigerian actress, Annie Idibia.

Tuface, a native of Benue State, arrived about 10:40 a.m. to donate gifts to thousands of families who are urgently taking shelter at the camp. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has called on Nigerians to disregard any news credited to any social media account in his name, stating that he has no Twitter or Facebook account.

The Minister made this disclosure in a statement, on Sunday, while debunking reports that President Muhammadu Buhari will travel to the United States on Monday, to condole with President Donald Trump over the floods in Houston, describing them as fake news.

He said numerous parody accounts have been opened in his name on both Twitter and Facebook and Nigerians should disregard them as he has nothing to do with the social media accounts.

”Numerous parody accounts have been opened in my name on the two platforms, when indeed I have no Twitter or Facebook accounts,” he said.

The Minister recalled how one of the parody Twitter accounts @MohammedLai was used to circulate a fake report that he sharply criticised Senator Dino Melaye for attending the Notting Hill Carnival in the United Kingdom.

It was gathered that six members of Ifeanyi Ubah football team have sustained serious injury after the bus carrying the players had a head-on collision with a passenger cab, which was overloaded.



The accident occurred on Friday morning when the team players and some officials were heading to Ijebu Ode for the NPFL Matchday 36 fixture with Sunshine Stars, set to hold on Sunday, 3rd of September, 2017.

The Chairman of the club, Mr Chukwuma Ubah in a statement released on Friday morning confirmed the accident.

He said, “Sequel to the reports making the rounds this morning. We wish to confirm that FC IfeanyiUbah team bus conveying players and officials was involved in a car accident along Benin/Ore expressway while on our way to Ijebu Ode to honour the NPFL Matchday 36 fixture with Sunshine Stars billed for this Sunday, 3rd of September, 2017.

President Muhammadu Buhari has joined thousands of Nigerians in marking the Eid-El-Kabir.

The President on Friday attended the Raka’at Eid-El-Kabir prayer with Muslims Faithful at the Kofar Arewa Eid prayer ground in Daura, his home town.

In his Sallah message, the President felicitated with Nigerians particularly the Muslim faithful, on the celebration of this year’s Eid-El-Kabir.

A three story building was said to have collapsed in a working-class neighborhood and has killed at least 13 people this morning in Mumbai while authorities are scrambling to rescue survivors.

According to CNN, a spokesman for the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai told CNN that the building was 117 years old and had been deemed unsafe years ago.
"The building was served an 'unsafe to live' notice in 2013," said the spokesman, Vijay Khabale-Patil.
"Ten families used to live in the building and some of them had vacated the property recently. So we don't have an actual count of the missing people."
He told CNN that 13 bodies had been recovered from the site and the operation was still "in full swing."
Twenty others were rescued and sent to hospital, according to Deven Bharti, the joint commissioner for law and order of the Mumbai Police.
"We are still assessing how many people might have been trapped," Mumbai police spokesman Rashmi Karandikar told CNN.
The building collapse comes after heavy rains and flooding in Mumbai this week, which have killed at least five people. Authorities would not say if the collapse was connected to the rainfall.

It was also gathered that the market leaders had before now, reportedly sued the Governor over plans to demolish the market, a lawsuit they allegedly won. Sources claim that the demolition of the market which is reportedly as old as Imo, is against the alleged judgement passed in court.

A man identified as, Chris Wamalwa, 40-year-old who decided to bury his mother alive following a family problem, has been arrested by the Police in Kabuchai Constituency, Bungoma County, Kenya, his plan was uncovered by people who were passing nearby, who heard the woman crying for help and went to check.
