oml, am not writing off classical music cause i so much love the technicality of classical piece, all am saying is it quite so hard to spend so many years learning notes by notes isn't it , you were taught how to play notes , treble clef, bars, innit, every genre of music are interwoven , so there are no ways a professional keyboardist wont come learn how to play classical.. Anyways you said you have been playing for 8years, you are my boss then.. But i have been playing for 2years, name any genre i will play for you . Why?The internet is loaded, jazz, opera, any sort of appreigo. Can be learnt online.. At low cost.just 10mb I guess i have make my point
You make it seem as if I don't know everything about music is available online. I know You can find any genre but just don't expect to be professional learning online. I can tell, You haven't met real jazz musicians and know nothing about opera(opera is a genre of classical by the way) if you think you can be proficient by learning both genres online and worst of all on wikihow?(Lol Seriously dude? Wikihow), there are premium websites that offer real courses on music but you have to a pay a premium subscription for it. It's Only those kind of websites that can rival the offline learning just not Wikihow and youtube. Wikihow and youtube are really c rap. It takes dedication, skill and someone to take you in the right direction to master music not some plumber who come from work and learn music from wikihow on his spare time and think they are big shot. I'm not all against learning on your own without a teacher but if you're gonna do it on your own your best bet to be great will be with institutions like abrsm. Online with sites like wikihow is just a no, no. You most probably are mediocre in your playing and you just don't know(assuming you've learned online as you say). Take an assessment with any musical board and come with a distinction and then we can talk. Abrsm offers jazz too you are not forced to do classical.

hmmm.. So far , all i just saw here is the value of $ and rands there .. Omo! But well you have spoken well.. The places you talked about are in muson center they charge as hell.. And the outcomes are good, but i tell you, in naija here.. The appreciation of classical is at 0% and if you are good at playing classicals, i bet you cant play any genre.. I know of a guy who called <name withheld> and said bros, i want to know how to play high life and know how to solo.. Not only that.. He said i can play to all kind of classical songs but to play to naija kinda genre is hard..
Because the guy cannot play naija style doesn't mean it's hard. I'm not saying it will come naturally. You make it sound like naija style is harder than classical. As you say its hard playing in naija kinda genre. What I'm saying is there is no style as hard as classical music, once you master it you can master anything. Probably the guy hasn't played naija style before but he mastered classical, once you show him naija he will grasp the material quicker than normal. Naija style is probably hard but The way you talk about material online and watching youtube videos really sounds like it's nothing compared to classical. And of course this is Africa. Classical isn't as appreciated as in Europe. Even America doesn't come close to Europe in classical appreciation. Why else do you think Alicia Keys sings rnb? Alicia Keys is trained in the classical style. But what she plays to accompany her vocals is really nothing compared to what she can playing a classical piece. Maybe I am giving bad advice as I do not know Nigerian market but over here you can make a decent living with classical but with other genres success will come with luck.
Perhaps you have a problems with someone trying to make a living with it. No worries you can always play music as a hobby, that's how I started my lessons on piano, only as a hobby and classical is very good in that aspect too.

...am following bro. tnx for taking ur time to put up this..
Since you're from Lagos. Aren't there any teachers in Lagos? Have you ever heard of abrsm? I do teach but we might have to resort to skype for lessons since I'm based in Pretoria which I highly do not recommend. I recommend you find a teacher from Lagos but I think you sound like you want free lessons which is another thing I highly do not recommend. Do you want to learn Gospel? Do you want to play in a church? If you answered yes to any of those 2qs I would advise against it. I did my piano with Unisa and they grade their music from grade 1 to grade 8, then you also have abrsm which applies a system similar to Unisa which is grade 1 - 8. Abrsm is London based music school. They operate all over the world. There should be one in Lagos. Find a teacher in Lagos who can enrol you with abrsm. You will work with that teacher and will only go to abrsm for examinations. Tell your teacher you want to learn in the classical music. I assure you, classical is the most demanding style you can play on piano and once you reach your grade 5. Any other type of music you want to play will be piece of cake for you. Unisa or abrsm do not require any prior learning to enrol with them even a 4 year old kid hasn't started school yet can be enrolled as long as they know abc until z. The good thing is you can start a career once you got to grade 6 or 7. I am a tutor myself and here in South Africa most teachers charge around R380 - R450. You can make around R20 000 per month which is really good if you ask me. But if you want to learn by watching youtube videos or wikihow you will be limiting yourself and won't make a good living out of it unless a church you want to play at will pay you to play but I doubt it will a good pay check after all. Once you want to maximise your earnings you may want to relocate to the US or the UK because there they pay their tutors handsomely. A piano tutor in the US can make approximately $55 000 a year. That's a pay that can be earned by someone with a diploma yet in music you don't formal education to start classes as I've said a 4year old can also enrol.

I cannot advice on where in Lagos you can find a teacher as I've already mentioned I've never been in Lagos but I think this might help:

I sing like a robot. My target market is those honeys that don't care much about my music than how I look and can easily brainwash their kids that got no clue
My beats are terrible and generic also. But hey what can I do, I mean I look at kendrick and think that guy is way more talented than me but hey as long there's no worries as I'm in luck cos no matter how you look at it k.dot loses cos for every one fan k.dot and real hip hop have there will be a hundred and one clueless honeys and brainwashed kids that will like the way I look, the trends I set and what I wear... Etc and nothing about the music. There will be more and more fans of me plus the media, radio and tv are gonna want to cash in on this. I'm gonna be number one on billboard charts for 27 weeks and be in magazines all year long. That works my in favour cos I don't have any talent so More people will be brainwashed and I will sell millions of copies and win awards. But that's just my work, when knockoff from work and get home tired from the trash that is my music. I just put in my Kendrick Lamar cd and listen to real hip hop because how much trash can one person tolerate.

Oh in addition to singing like a robot and having trashy beats on my songs did I also mention that I can't rap? Apologies it should have been the first thing I mentioned.

Ps: I once asked a honey what aspect of my musical skill she likes the most. Her reply: drake you're so hot I could cuddle you. And I bought my 7year old son shoes similar to yours, he liked them very much and thinks you're a cool dude, next week I will buy him your cd too. The one with your number hit on billboard.

Cool.
Music/RadioRe: Top 10 Hot Rap Songs Of The Week (courtesy Of Billboard) by RSAMAN(m):
chuksisaac or maddskillz. Have you guys heard the album Deltron 3030 by Deltron 3030?

I listened this album and to this day I still think it is the best album released in hip hop EVER.
And I've never reffered to anything hip hop avant garde until I heard this album. Truely inspiraltional.
some works of art are so avant garde you just see paint thrown onto a painting In patterns you cannot follow or even make out whats going on the painting and get marvelled when one artist tells you it's the best art he's ever come across. And the artist say: you won't understand because it's avant garde. And you be like: avant what?
We could say the same about this album. Because I always research my music I'd hear ppl going raving mad about it over review sites, amazon and youtube. I finally downloaded just to hear what everyone was raving about. I put it in for a spin and man was I disappointed. And thought to myself: was that it? That everyone is raving about? The beats sounded cheap and lyrics sounded forced. I forced myself to finish it and then had to Stash it away for over a year after which I thought let me give it another go,
It won't kill me. I still didn't understand it. I never gave up. Gave It another go. It was just the most difficult thing to digest. Took me a while but luckily it it finally kept growing on me little by little but after about ten listens Man, man, man I felt like I could cry over stashing it for over a year. I Finally understood what the term 'avant garde' is, man it's a hidden gem, one that grows on you no matter how many good rap albums you've listened to, even hardcore rap fans like me found it hard to digest. Guys you need to hear this album but I can't guarantee you will love it at first listen. In fact its almost a guarantee you will dislike it even after maybe 2,3 to 4 listens. But don't give up(I wish someone told me that and I would never have slept on it and stash it away for so long) just because it might sound like cheap underground beats and wack raps of which it isn't at all, because it's(should I say avant garde again? Let me just say It's a hard to understand album)

About the album:

The album is so futuristic in nature and is based on a concept which sees the album set on a year 3030 concept.
Members of deltron 3030 are Del The Funky Homosapian(raps), Dan The Automator (production), Kid Kaola (scratches), del the funky homosapian on the album is cast as deltron zero and he's lyrics are so on point and can paint a picture that can remain vividly in your mind.
I'll leave it there. I suggest you go to wikipedia and learn more about the concept of the album. They explain it in more detail than I can do it here. Just read the part: 'album information'

I definetely recommend this album to you guys.

Guys I've posted this some time before. if you've missed it you're missing out on a great album. Now this is 2Pac's best album I've heard released posthumously. Think of something on par with 7day theory but 7day theory involved Pac's creative input even though it was released posthumously making The Way He Wanted It vol2 the best without his creative input. Now this is really how he wanted it and not those posthumous albums they released after his death and were passed off as Pac's albums. Note this is not an official studio album release but a mixtape and you'll find a few of his posthumous releases remixes among the other songs you've never heard before. Had it been an official release I believe it would have been his best after 7day theory. You got to hear this for yourself to believe.

There is still good hip hop out there. You just have to know where to look. Rappers and rap groups such as: atmosphere, blackalicious, el-p, immortal technique and pharoahe monch are still keeping it alive.

As I'm from South Africa it's difficult to tell if a piano on olx Nigeria is affordable, but I think I saw the cheapest at N25 000, I don't know if that's affordable. I bought my piano from olx for R4 700. it was so affordable people always asked where did I get such bargain. It will be beneficial for you to visit olx, there are many offers made from there and you can decide which one can be affordable for you. If you can't find any piano you can afford or most offers seeming to be far away from where you live, do not worry, offers are posted everyday on the site. Just wait until someone posts what you need at a reasonable price within a reason distance from which you live(this may take several days until someone posts what matches your needs) Just google search olx Nigeria.

Precaution: remember don't pay for goods you haven't seen(a photo doesn't cut it, you have to meet and see the goods), make sure you're in a position to receive the goods when you pay for them, always meet at a safe place. E.g next to a police station etc...

How can you say it is a fact that Drake doesn't have talent? Or that he doesn't rap? Or that he can't sing? Those are opinions. Or do you have English comprehension problems? Because you don't like someone doesn't make your opinion a fact.

And about Hotline Bling, every hit song has a time frame in which it is on constant rotation, and after which, it is considered old (or a classic), and is listened to every once in a while. Hotline Bling was on Billboard's top ten chart for 19 weeks (almost 5 months). Hotline Bling sold over 600,000 copies in the UK. Hotline Bling sold over 2 million copies in the U.S. These are facts, not opinions.

I love rap too, but I love other kinds of music and talent in general. When I see talent I respect it. Well, I don't blame you. You have never tried to write a story, or sing, or act before to know the amount of work that goes into creating art, that is why you can open your mouth and talk shiit.
Hot line bling blang blung has sold 600 000 copies in the UK and 2 000 000 copies in the U.S? That makes it a great song right? Well 150 billion flies think shiit is delicious.

19 weeks on billboard? Like @maddskillz said: billboard charts are a joke.

And how can I say it is a fact drake doesn't have talent? Well if I didn't know of over 200 rappers who can rap and write songs way better than him perhaps this fella would be great just like nokia 3310 was best when there wasn't iphones and samsung s7s.

And I suppose you mean beyonce, rihanna and chris brown when you say you listen to other kinds of music too? when real artists in other genres who possess real talent are: Norah Jones, Melody Gardot, Esperanza Spalding and Diana Krall.

Well, with hardwork and focus comes luck.

About you not seeing him as a rap artiste, what classifies someone as a rap artiste? Does Drake RAP? Yes. Yea, he sings sometimes, but at least 70% of the time, he is rapping, so why are you not considering a rap artiste? The guy is a great talent, give that to him. I know great rappers that can rap circles around drake but can't make a good song to save their lives. Making a great song takes a lot of talent and creativity.
I've never heard him rap. The guy has no talent at all. He can't rap. He can't sing. He can't make a good song. That number one song of his for this week will be in the trash can in twelve weeks time.

You do admit there are rappers who can rap circles around drake. You hit the nail on the head, I give you that. Great observation but there are also over 200 rappers that can out rap him and make a better song than him anytime, anyday. You just don't know.

Again, it's your opinion that Common is better than J.Cole. No Problem.

But we simply cannot have that conversation about commercial rap vs non-commercial because you're simply too poorly educated in hiphop matters to understand what I'm even talking about.

Notice that my first response to you was focused on comparing and contrasting the content of some of the so-called commercial rappers vs non-commercial rappers. Being ignorant of these rappers and their work, you tried to change the discussion to one about preference...a discussion I am simply not interested in...

I mentioned JCole because he dropped 'Forest Hill Drive' 2 years ago...It had no radio singles and not a single featured artist on any of it's tracks. It had very little marketing and only dropped 3 weeks after it was announced....Yet it went Platinum. The first hiphop album without features to go platinum in 25 years in fact.

I mentioned Kendrick Lamar particularly for his latest Album 'To Pimpp A Butterfly'...another album with virtually no radio friendly songs, experimental tones, etc....yet it went Platinum

If you were familiar with any of these guys, We would be able to confidently hold a discussion on how these Albums with seemingly 'non-commercial' content performed very strongly in commercial terms...and how the difference between commercial vs non-commercial rap is very blurred

But you cant discuss things you don't actually know...which explains why in a discussion about the commerce of rap, you are instead discussing who is the better rapper... cheesy
I will see if I can give Forest Hill drive a try. Dude's songs are flooding radio and tv and I have little to no interest in them at all as they are sub-par compared to, say maybe, Common. I don't see how a whole album will make any difference. As to your claim that I have limited knowledge about rap artists, do you want me to list all the rap artists I've listened to, will that do you any justice?

Why are you being so aggressive?

Are you salty because I refused to debate this matter with you? cheesy

You raised an interesting question with your initial post, but then interesting questions don't always need to be answered.

How can we have a wider discussion on this issue if we can't examine the bodies of work of several contemporary artistes, artistes who unfortunately, you are not familiar with?

You haven't listened to J.Cole but you've already decided Common is better.

You haven't really listened to Eminem but decided he makes 'commercial' music, without even defining what commercial music means...

You're 'not into' Kendrick Lamar...

In the end, the only thing we would discussing is your opinion, which is formed from a clearly limited knowledge of hip hop, and hip hop artistes.

You're entitled to your opinion of course...but that doesn't mean I have to respect it, or discuss it.

Last response.
I haven't listened to eminem? says who? Dude I have listened to every eminem album except mmlp2. And I don't intend to listen to it any time soon. Dude I've heard enough jcole to know he doesn't hold a candle to common. I'm not obliged to torture myself with his albums when I know I'm not gonna like them or I might as well listen to fetty wap and lil wayne. Yeah I'm not into kendrick lamar, like I said I wouldn't give up blackalicious' blazing arrow for kendrick's section.80. As for saying I have a Limited knowledge of hip hop artists. Check yourself.

I've googled the name k dot. And by k. You mean kendrick lamar? Dude you're not serious, this is your new low. I'm just not into the guy and couldn't care what name he went by. Not that he's bad. I'm just not into him. Doesn't matter what name he once went by. I used to hear about this guy in the old days, people saying "kendrick lamar, kendrick lamar" and decided to check him out but wasn't exactly as impressed. Wouldn't leave "blackalicious" for k. I hope you can see where I'm going with this.
