OP, i think you are only uncomfortable with this because you have never given her a thing. So pls tell me, why do you want to start benefiting from her when you have never extended the same privilege to her? I find that quite selfish.
That her folks are rich doesn't mean you can't even give her a toothbrush. It's not what item you buy that matters, but the thought that matters.

At to your dilemma, just tell her you are broke. I have male friends who tell me the same and i give them money and buy them lunch...no biggie. She's your girlfriend, let her know you have nothing on you.
Get a job of your own. Your dad survived while you were away in school. You could help him after work hours or in the weekend...no one will hold that against you. You are simply a man trying to find his own way.

And please DO NOT make it a habit of asking her for money, your pride is at stake here.
