Head to youtube - and you can clearly see that 1) Abuja - the well-planned part is good - decent CBD albeit with more empty houses than occupied - with few organized estates for civil servants - but the majority live in slums like Mpape- and the city is almost empty. There is almost no middle class. No industrial area. Just big mosque and the rocks. 2) Accra - has a tiny central business district - a few middle class planned estates - and the rest I would call mostly lower lower middle class - just few inches from Kibra. So all in all - Accra beats Abuja. Abuja is a dead lego city. Accra is a sprawling disorganized slumpolis. Shma2020: |
The entire Accra city is mostly a slum without any zoning or planning - maybe we can excuse cantoment, east legon and airporth hills - lower middle class areas - otherwise everywhere else is a SLUM. vaxx: |
Mpharma bought Halton - a pharmacy dispensing chain- that had 20 stores. It controls nothing in Kenya advanced pharmaceutical center. Kenya has open-door policy for companies to come in - and go out. That is why this year I expect we shall overtake Morocco to become 3rd most business-friendly country... vaxx: |
After meeting the president what stopped him. The Rostam Aziz maybe was blocked by Magufuli...not Kenya. Magufuli refused kenya it's LNG gas. If he was coming to set up LPG - it's free for all. Rostam joins Dangote - people who come to see the president to start a business - WHY? Kenya is not banana - come to Nairobi - register your business online - buy land or lease warehouse - import machinery - and be in business. Seriously nobody can block you in our liberalized free democratic country. But if you want favours - forget it. Mzal3ndo: |
When we go vertical - your run to horizontal Look at how Nairobi is nibbling your city shackman See how you dead city has 1 or zero building under development - with Nairobi 25-30 any given year. Add 5 yrs - 5 times 30 =150 new buildings in Nairobi in 5yrs - overtaking joburg (that look likely to add only 5 new buildings - 1 every year) AfriqueDuZuid:
|
Shackman, of course, it goes without saying that we are fixing the entire country. Mombasa alone has planned about 2B dollars project. LAMU-Turkana new corridor is ongoing with 22B dollars planned. We have invested 5B dollars on SGR - and another 1B on course to rehabilitate the old one. When this thread started in 2016 - Kenya had about 3Million households connected to electricity - now that figure is well over 8M! About 15yrs in 2005 - only 0.4M kenyans were connected. We have plan to connect another 2m by 2022 - and we might even hit universal access - considering we have Africa leading solar connections. We are building mega water dams and irrigation schemes. Bla de bla. I can go on and on - but I suspect it would be like performing an orchestra to the sheep of sotholand. There is a reason why in 2005 in South Africa - it's GDP was 260B and Kenya economy was 18B - and Now Kenya GDP is 100B and South Africa is 320B. So shackman if in 15yrs we have reduced the gap from when South Africa was 15 times larger than kenya to just 3 times! - What make you think in the next 15yrs we cannot catch and even exceed South Africa. Why would it be almost sacrilegious to Azanias to hear that Nairobi will definitely overtake Joburg soon when all data is screaming YES. And pray what will STOP KENYA - maybe a civil war or some natural catastrophe - otherwise our non-mineral well-diversified economy has grown almost unperturbed by anything the last since 2003. AfriqueDuZuid: |
South Africans brought themselves to this Kenya viz Nigerian thread. Don't blame me . After it became obvious Nigeria stood no chance - South Africans and West Africans brought your country as the new opponent. Now I see you are all ganged up against fast-growing Kenya without a mineral - the largest such economy in SSA.Kenya is nailing the basic down and is about to enter a phase of very high growth and progress. We have managed to reign on our population - and we are seeing less and less kids - with highest population cohort now the 10-14. As for export, fdi, etc - well our economy this year is projected to grow at 8 % (the most important metric) - Africa highest - our revenues will hit 21B plus - meanwhile your country will be lucky to get out of recession. What Nairobi is is fixing big infrastructure (THE HARD part) - and the small stuff like - walkways - and pedestrian paths - bicycle lanes - and such attention to details - which are low-hanging fruit. Upper hill, Kilimani and Westland are transitioning from low residence to high rises organically...so the horizontal infrastructure is not yet there. They are not planned cities from the ground up like say Tatu city, Two Rivers, Konza, Eko Altantic dead city, or the many in South Africa...they are growing organically....so eventually when there is good enough densities..and the walkways are fixed...they will look as good. It takes few millions to do that...it's small thing. Nairobi is already on these small kind of stuff....anyway. Walkways will cost 15m dollars to fix grey and red lanes all over Nairobi - very cheap - very low hanging stuff. https://nairobinews.nation.co.ke/general/nms-unveils-sh1-47-billion-plan-for-non-motorised-transport-corridors https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2GVF8-z5R0 Randlord: |
Why do you think I am bitter; I pity you and your declining country. 20 yrs ago when I first visited Joburg I was impressed - Nairobi then had a single CBD - Joburg had 3. Now I see an old decacying country and cities. Now I see Nairobi edging Joburg in 5-10yrs - all Nairobi need to fix are few minors things they are fixing. If I want to be impressed I just visit Malaysia or Thailand or Indonesia or Vietnam or of course China - if you had not wasted a generation already - 2005 to now - you would be like this - NOT competing with Kenya - having been overtaken by Egypt now (ignore the paper giant of Nigeria with cooked data) - but with other proper middle class countries Now, this is impressive - and makes you want to visit them Asian cities. Nairobi needs 30yrs (2050) to get here - but 10yrs max to South Africa level. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPDznHIgVMA&t=181s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDTsIHL0JAQ Randlord: |

Of course, no coherent rebuttal, I guess lying has its limit, even by your standards. Just30: |
Let look at Ghana's overcooked economy - 70B dollar informal economy . Banks. Their biggest bank would 11th in Kenya - just above PRIME BANK. . They have 28 banks against kenya 45 banks.2019 data - by now I am sure many Kenyan banks have overtaken many others - Equity Bank now is 10B dollars behemooth. https://africanbusinessmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/TOP-BANKS-AB1019_lr.pdf Ghana biggest bank - Ghana Commercial bank - assets - not even 1B dollars. THIS IS LIKE A SACCO - Mwalimu Sacco is about 500M dollars now in asset and even own a bank ![]() In Africa Other new entrants were Kenya’s Prime Bank (entering at #92 with capital of $212m), Société Générale Côte d’Ivoire entering at #93 with capital of $209m, Ecobank Ghana (#97 with capital of $202m) and Barclays Bank of Ghana (#99 capital of $194m).

All that is data. Cement when poured creates structures that WE CAN SEE WITH the NAKED EYE. Cement companies themselves become so rich they build big offices and even expand - their owners become DANGOTES . Ghana banks would grow enough to even expand to Togo and build huge office blocks. When it comes to electricity - manufactured goods from Ghana - should show up somewhere. It should not be Nigeria - we have 100B dollars agriculture - and yet we world biggest food importer. We can go on and on - the balance sheets of your utilities - like Ghana Water, ECH, and name - should show that consumption! It doesn't! ghana water - nationally - has 0.5m customers! just imagine that!!!!!!!!. The electricity company is normally in IMF ICU ward. Therefore we can conclude there are data integrity issues or just lack of seriousness West Africa style. This Nigeria claiming to be self-sufficient in rice production - while 10M BENIN is importing tonnes and tonnes of rice from Thailand, Veitnam and India...all destined for Nigeria. Just30: |
Economic growth should MANIFEST itself in development that naked eye can see. Anything else is cooking Nigeria style. If you go to Asia growing countries - you can use common sense to know it's growing. If you cannot use common sense - to see economic growth of Ghana - there is a problem. Ghana has failed SPECTACULARLY the picture and common sense test. For Nigeria - we know they have been in Oil induced recession since 2014! What is obvious the average Ghanian is like you Just30 - a pathological liar - and that is why every year you claim to have Ethiopia like growth - but nobody see it. Ethiopia has turned from 2nd world poorest country with bottom every index to what it is now. Do you see Adis Ababa - and you see tall buildings - cranes - and new stuff. THAT IS REAL ECONOMIC GROWTH reflecting in all the echelons of the society. Big ships like banks - are growing so much - they have money to put 50 floors buildings - but Ghana - nobody seem to thrive - Not big companies - not SMES - except in their national account books - and the Chinese gold gangs of course; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gh05N48FMPc Just30: |
DarSaleem already overtook Lagos in terms of Skyscrappers or even 20 floor building. Nairobi has about twice Lagos. Please Nigga - you can only impress GHANA; Watch out for Adis Ababa and Maputo. Already Angola's Luanda is age away Look at ADIS ABABA - this country growing - not cooking figures Ghana or Nigeria style. Another decade Lagos will not even make top 10 in Africa most developed cities..it will be competing for Ghana for earthquake fault lines ![]() https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDeGR6nkGQM 68816419: |
Nigga - this thread started in 2016. SHOW ME ONE SINGLE COMPLETED PROJECT IN NIGERIA THOSE 5YRS. NOT ONE. Meanwhile we complete projects almost every month. Nigeria - please - you're doing as badly with south africa - with economic recession lasting a decade ![]() There is already a 10yr glut in office and hotel effective demand - DO NOT EXPECT ANYTHING to be built in your country. Heck even rental apartments - you're TOO POOR to afford - so there is basically HUGE OVERSUPPLY already Talk of peaking early!Try watch Kenya zoom past you. HECK EVEN SAMMY GAVE UP ON RENDERS - we warned him 68816419: |
Give us 5 years top 10yrs; and South African will be coming to Nairobi like Nigeriians are - to catch glimpse of tallest buildings - world class roads - rails - name it. Upperhill has changed from a low residential area to the city you see now in 15yrs.While you're sleeping - kenya is huge construction site - as we speak there contractors all over Nairobi building stuff 24hrs a day. The land here will set you at 5-10M dollars an acre.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aldyTlrmd_Q&t=46s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cv7gbJ1kM-0 68816419: |
How big is Sandton. Same but better than anything in Nigeria - and it just got started - it extending all the way to Kilimani. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUwBpW8hlCE 68816419: |
What is everything Upperhill just needs more density; and it's getting it; when likes of 88 condominium, Pinacle, Montave and rest come off ground - the rounds and streets will get fixed.Obviously the big difference - upper hill is mostly business offices - Sandton is mostly shopping (more like Two Rivers) Remember Upperhill has totally changed from low residence to skyscrapers in 15yrs Last 5yrs - 30 projects registered!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLjAot3JhFw Vlain: |
Upper hill vis Sandton - and number of planned activities in Upper hill beat Sandton 10 nill https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUwBpW8hlCE Upperhill via duct under construction https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEiHB7sIKLs |
You mean Lekki will be ready in 30yrs - yes that about expected. Lamu 3 berths are already. Ships will start next week docking. It can handle almost any ship in the world. Having a depth of 17m with berth of 400m - that is as good as any worldwide Lekki will be 14m and will be ready in 30yrs timeVlain: |
What exactly do you call development? Streets? Or high end stores on the streets. Upperhill lacks behind in those; those are lipstick that are easy to apply. The scrapes are harder. Sandton. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4uvAZPuzuI Upperhill - with 88, Montave, Pinacle and many upcoming towrs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Sc8w3V55Uw Vlain: |
Lamu Deep Seaport is long complete and going for operation. At completion it will be larger than Lekki https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TLN5JxHX0o Vlain: |
Why would I fight facts like an idiot. I have never said kenya is RSA level. But I have said ceteris paribus - Nairobi will catch up with joburg in 10yrs. Kenya as whole - 15yrs min. Vlain: |
You don't even know what a street is - you want to compare streets with roads/highways;For example -bourdillon RD - mean it's a ROAD - not a street. You want to compare Apples with Apples - not Oranges - even if they are all fruits. 68816419:

Gov functions are mainly in one single street or two steers - Harambee avenue mostly - that is where nearly all ministries are located. Then Nyayo house. 68816419: |
Quote the particular world bank report. What kind of miseducation did you go through Just30: |
Again quote some emperical data otherwise you're wasting bandwith Just30: |
Lagos has 20M according to state stats - and if you think those boats - are the solution - then you're nut case like the average person in your Zoogeria. What you need are large ferries - large ships - to move at least 1000 people at go. Otherwise those laughable boats are not solution to MASS TRANSIT Some of Mombasa ferries MV Nyayo: Carrying Capacity: 60 Vehicles | 1200 Passengers. MV Harambee : Carrying Capacity: 40 Vehicles | 1440 Passengers. MV Kilindini : Carrying Capacity: 40 Vehicles | 1440 Passengers. MV Likoni :Carrying Capacity: 60 Vehicles | 1500 Passengers. Vlain: |
Nobody cares about what you say. You should already know that. We care about WHAT emperical data SAYS Secondly ALMOST the entire Ghana's Accra and Kumasi - are for me SLUMS - coz it informal - has no sewage - no roads - and look really shady But here is quick google search -About 45% of Accra residents live in some form of slum housing. These areas are overcrowded, have limited access to piped water and poor sanitation facilities. ... Old Fadama is the largest informal settlement in the city of Accra. Approximately 5.5 million people live in slums in Ghana. Just30: |
Why not buy a ferry morons? How many people will those boat carry - a city of 20M people - some sleeping 5 days in traffic. Mombasa ferry carries thousands. These or even large vessels is what lagos need. NOT KAMIKAZE BOATS - that look like boats for touristhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRvqAENy-jo Vlain:

. You are SA's older brother but are stunted in growth. BTW it was you who dragged us in this topic with your constant mentioning that you're catching up to SA and generally trying to patronise SA. Why do you want us gone now? The photos are making you angry cos they show the Nairobi 'emperor has no clothes'?
