Please share more on your address because I think its closer to me and possibly drop ur mobile contacts. Like I really need to run a diagnosis scan on this vehicle. This car will not move when the accelerator is pressed at first but wen u step on the break it suddenly picks up again.

It does so mostly after successful Gear switch to Gear2.

Please how much is your scan, and do u just scan alone and not fix issues?.

Thanks

As an auto professional, id advice you in the order of my perceived priority.

1. Get that car scanned for that Check engine light code. And fix the causative agent behind the Check engine light.
2. Find out whats wrong with your ABS system. The rains are approaching, you dont wanna end a journey offroad or with a crash caused by braking inadequacies.
3. That set light is a TPMS light. Check your tyres, is your COLD AIR PRESSURE same as indicated by the sticker kn the B panel or glove comoartment?
Do you have a spare tyre? have you gone to a vulcaniser who in the process of hitting the rubber damaged the tpms sensor?

I don't want any trial by error sir, I discovered that the ABS wire has been disconnected.

I have all 4 tires to be a bad one Just planning to change them but Please I was Unable to Read the required tire size on the vehicle body but I notice it is Rim 16 and I have Rim 15, Please Kindly recommend the standard Sienna Tire Size sir.

About the Check engine Light, I don't Know where to run the scan around Agbara Area oooo.

Thanks a lot sir

so how much did you finally use to put the car in order.

will one have to put nearly half the cost of purchase for repairs? what do you think.

You don't likely need to use half the cost price to fix the Ride, It depends on your Mechanic from inspection point. Most times mechanics push us to buy a bad car so that they can extort us of our hard earned money (Truth). He will say the ride just need some little issues to fix and at the end of the day the little issues becomes a big issue.

1. Gear Box:- 45k
2. Steering Rack:- 23k (Twice)
3. Front Shocks:- 8k
4. Side Mirror:- 6k
5. Panel Beaters workmanship:- 10k
6. Painting (AutoBase):- 40k
7. Battery:- 14k
8. Engine Seat:- 3k
9. Tyres:- 10k

and other expenses sha.... grin , but now I enjoy the ride like seriously smiley

Autos / My Experience Buying My First Car (a USED Car) On Nairaland! by rydow(m): 7:24pm On Feb 29, 2016
Good Day Guys,

I wish to share my experience buying a USED car with everyone who cares to Read and learn from my GREAT Ordeal grin.

It all began in October 2015 when I sealed the deal with @ Royalty1, https://www.nairaland.com/2563498/sold-toyota-camry-tiny-light.

After several calls for negotiations and agreement, we sealed the deal, I ask about the issues with the ride and behold Big-Bro made me understand its a buy and drive shocked, but the issues are:-

1. Leaking Oil on the Power Steering
2. Fade Off paints on the Bonnet that needs to be resprayed to my taste, (Optional).
3. Engine in Good condition but the Gear box needs some service because most times when u want to Overtake a vehicle ahead, The gear responds late and makes some loud noise.

This where the listed faults by Big-Bro, and as the ride is my choice of first car, I made some underG research about Toyota Camry that price and my colleagues where like Oh-Boi hope say no be SCAM!!!.

I further asked about the total price to fix this defects and Possibly if the ride can be driven to Lagos without issues, He said the ride was recently driven to Ibadan recently, that Lagos shouldn't be a barrier and he contacted his Mechanic for me immediately for the price to fix the Leakage and service the Gearbox.

I payed for the requested amount and Big-Bro makes it clear to me that Paying the money isn't part of our agreed price of the car oooo, incase I came to inspect and I dnt later like the ride. But to me I trust him as he spoke so calm and politely on the phone,I took the RIsk.

On Friday 9th Day of October 2015, I Took a Day Off and decide to visit Ilorin to seal d deal and drive my Toyota Camry straight to the CenterOfExcellence grin. I arrive Ilorin with my friend late around 6PM in the evening. I called Senior Man and we met @ The Point where the vehicle was parked, It has been serviced and I believe the engine should speak well.

I did a Rigorous checks on the Ride and this were my Physile Observations:-

1. Clean Interior though the seats are very wet due to the thorough wash by the CarwashMAn grin and thanks for the pappers Big-Bro.

2. The ride has a First Body, Little/No too much observable Rust...**Like no Rust.

3. The Side Mirror (Driver Side ) Broken and well packaged grin

4. After starting the Engine and I raised it to hear its cool sound exhaust was emitting some smokes continuously before it stopped but we both belived it was as a result of the engine oil used to service the car.

5. Bad Front Tire and My Oga immediately admit to replace the Tire. @Royalty1, Replaced the tire on the Spot. Thanks.

We seal the deal after few minutes Test drive and there was an instant alert on his Phone from **Bank grin grin. It was late, the Pictures we took was very dark so I cant share, but it was a wonderful transaction. (Thanks For the Wiper Sir). We left Ilorin for Ibadan at exactly 10PM. It was a FunFilled Journey as we arrive Ibadan at 2:30am.

Now it all Began...

I left Ibadan for Lagos around 12no0n 0n Saturday 10/10/2016. I decide to refil my Gas. I parked gently alight and make my staright order for a fill up, After buying fuel I cant start the ride again and Guess What the Battery has Parked Up. As a Hot Guy I bought a new one sharparly (14K).

While cruising my ride on Lagos/Ibadan express road after Academy before Soka, I had a huge noise (GBAUUUUUUU) , Oh! I smashed the braked it was a narrow escape. OMG!!! Allihamdulilahi I shouted , but behold the Tire at the Driver side (Front) busted on the high way. I changed to the extra and made a way towards Challenge to replace the busted tire and change my route Via Lagos Abeokuta through Apata Vs Lagos Ibadan.

When I got to Sango Ota, I stated Observing a strange Noise and Behold it was the Power Steering Pump, and before I got to ATan, I was already driving a Trailer grin (Man-Diesel). The steering was as strong as IshanMaalu grin cheesy. I called my niggas instantly cos its already getting late cos of the huge trsffic so I was advice to buy road ATF oil and top up the reservoir. I did that and miraculously my steering was sooo soft. So I drove home safely.

I proceeded to a Mechanic Workshop on Monday and this where the listed faults with the ride:-

1. Defective Steering Rack shocked cry

2. Decide to reservice the Gear Box cos after the long distance Journey it was Observably not changing at all.

3. Defective Engine Seats cryCausing serious Jerks in traffic cry

4. Oil driping from some parts of the engine around the CAM-Shaft (Valves), decide to get a Valve seals.

I called @Royalty1, We fought and it was really a Long Mis-Understanding. I believe he sold a scrap for me but he insist he forgot about the engine seats and he cant ever do that on NAIRALAND He promise to get back to me though but I got nothing.

But Atlast this were the LIst of what I changed in the Ride:-

1. New Gear Box

2. Steering Rack (Changed Twice)

3. Battery @ Ibadan

4. Tires (One in Ibadan and 4 in Lagos)

5. Reservice the Engine.

After all this was Done, The ride came back to life and I was Really enjoying the Motor ooooo. AC is a WOW shocked smiley

I contacted Big-Bro again and he politely accept to help me with my Documents Renewal without demanding for an extra Charges. Senior man. I respect your maturity and that is why I have decided to share it Here on Nairaland.

I hereby wish to advice anybody who want to buy a Used Car to have it in mind that no matter how clean, Buy and Drive etc as proposed by the seller, he/she should have an extra 150k to 200k to fix the Ride to his desired Taste. Don't be too much in Haste, Chat for LOng, Request for the vehicle History, ask of when the posted pictures where taken. Most times buyer post the purchase clean photos and not the immediate status of the car.

In conclusion, I didn't regret buying a Used Car on NL and Insha Allah, am praying for an upgrade soon, so KAKAKIBuy should watch out for me wink.

Below are my Pimped Pictures. Evrybody is already making an Offer but am Not Selling oooooooo

OP,

If I come to Ibadan next weekend and I found out that u are still hanging around. U will see what I will do for you.

An organization that has not fully confirmed your appointment?
They haven't played U a dime

Yet u want to sleep and wake with them abi. I pity U. Font just be surprised when contracts start tripping in and they categorically tell U that its there strategy that's working and not your marketing contributions.

Don't be surprised when they bring in there people to replace you, wen there national cake is booming.

Don't be surprised wen u are fired for smiling too much at a client.

The truth is **Lagos is Challenging just as UK, US, Germany and Canada are. Racism exist right and our people survive. How

If u can answer how they survive, my brother U will survive Lagos. Lagos Is a Land of Many Opportunities. Only the Lazy ones complain.

About the 50k pay, though it can be so small to start but I can bet wen u start and u are hardworking as u claim. Beter offers are already waiting.

@ Tonylaw, I use Total oil. It doesn't smoke and moves smoothly though. Its manual and doesn't give me any other headache aside from shortage of oil especially after long travel

Big Bro.

Toyota Corolla are fuel efficient but the engine are always very expensive oooo. The only issue I think ur car is having is a minor one. Just check the engine Oil seal.
When ur car is parked for few hours or over the night. Just check under the car in the morning during ur routing checks for small oil leakage. U should see some oils dropping down on the Sump or exhaust pipe.

Take it to ur mechanic for an immediate fix. Even if u use mobile oil or chevron oil, if the seal leakage is still there, the oil level will still go down sir.

Thanks

-Paying rent - I believe its better to get an apt outside campus. Especially for those who dont have family here, it means you have a place to live when school is out of session. You can either get a cheap studio or get a room mate to lower the burden of the cost. Always and i say ALWAYS get an apt with all utilities included in the rent for your first year until you know how water, gas, electric bills work. Especially in winter, your gas bill could be very high if you dont know how to be judicious with heating your apt.

-Doing assignments/Research and thesis - frankly this is on you. No one can tell you how to read.

-Reading plans - again if you need someone to tell you how to read then you should not be in school.

-Getting a phone line and cheaper plan - For your first year, get a prepaid phone. When you are sure you know how much you typically have in finances a month then you can go for a contract phone. Tmobile was cheaper for me when i first came. Verizon and AT&T are too expensive for students unless your papa hold pepper! If you have family here, ask them what provider they use and see if you can use the same - that way your frequent calls are free.
You do not need a smart phone as a student! Save your money! NEVER use your phone to call international - its very expensive so use phone cards (penny talk is a good one).

-Getting scholarships - You should arrange that BEFORE you start school so you are not left hanging with bills you did not anticipate
-Graduate/resident assistantships - As a grad student in the biological sciences, this is a given. I suggest you try PhD programs, its free for the bio sciences. your mentor's grant pays for this. Arranging assistantships with your dept should be easy.

-Owing a used car (if necessary), Getting a bus pass - Dont buy a car for your first yr or 2. the fees add up very quickly. Since you have never driven in the US before, your insurance will be high too, you also need time to get used to the traffic rules. you dont want to rack up traffic tickets so fast.  grin
If you must own a car, it will depend on how much money you have. If you know you can depend on a constant stream of financial support from your parents then buy a new car (keep your car note payments below $200/month if you can) - that way you can start building credit. If you dont have much then go for a used car - best bet is to get one from an auction direct if you can get a dealer to help you with that.

With regard to bus passes, i usually skip those as i cant guarantee i will use most of it anyway. Most schools should have free buses for students. find out.

-Getting a licence - bring your naija license with you to the DMV when you apply. That way you can avoid having to go through the annoying road testing to get a license in most states. NEVER EVER drive without a valid US license, at worst have your naija license with you and show this to the cop if you are stopped. find out if your state honors foreign licenses though.

-Getting a State ID - this should be the first thing you do! Just go to the DMV and give them the requested documents. U should be able to get a temporary one in a few hours.

-Making the right friends. - depends on you.

-Getting a job on campus/off campus - its not a good idea to depend on this for the bulk of your finances. to get a job you will need a valid SSN and can only work after your first yr for no more than 20hrs/week
