BusinessJim Ovia Withdraws From The World Economic Forum by ryloy(op): 9:23am On Sep 05, 2019
JIM OVIA WITHDRAWS FROM THE WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM

Following the hypersensitivity of the issues surrounding the lives and well-being of Nigerian citizens living in South Africa and to contribute his voice against the poor state of security regarding foreign nationals living in Africa, the Founder/Chairman of Zenith Bank Plc, Mr. Jim Ovia has withdrawn from further activities at the World Economic Forum Africa 2019, taking place in Cape Town, South Africa.

Before taking his exit, Mr. Ovia stressed the need for youth empowerment and better government policies to curb continual attacks on persons living within and outside Africa. He belaboured that until positive change towards collective growth happens on this front, the continent would not reach its potential.

Mr. Ovia added that full support should be rendered in vocational education of the young persons living in not just Nigeria but Africa. According to him, the Jim Ovia Foundation has taken up a stance on this issue, having empowered over 3,500 students and entrepreneurs since its inception. He called on other members of the private sector to join hands and solve this menace plaguing the African continent.

PoliticsGov Fintiri Commends Kogi Gov Bello, Security Agencies For Support by ryloy(op): 3:17pm On Sep 04, 2019
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has commended his counterpart in Kogi, Governor Yahaya Bello, and the security agencies for their support towards the conduct of PDP primary election in Kogi.

Fintiri, who doubles as the Chairman of the PDP Electoral Committee for Kogi governorship election, gave the commendation when Gov. Bello led heads of security agencies in the state on a courtesy visit to him in a hotel in Lokoja, over the shooting incident that occurred at PDP primary at Confluence Stadium on Wednesday.

Fintiri said that he had enjoyed tremendous support from Gov. Bello and security agencies since he arrived with his team in Kogi State for the exercise.

He noted that the exercise was almost completed when the sad incident occurred, adding that eight out of the 10 ballot boxes were already counted remaining only two.

Fintiri expressed worry that there might be some form of conspiracy within the PDP, which may have led to the cause of the incidence.

“Our arrangement was to start the process at 7 am but delegates were not coming forward for accreditation and even aspirants arrived venue late.

”We did accreditation till about 4-5 pm. And again, the shooting came through part of the stadium where the floodlight went off.

”When I arrived on Monday evening, I went to the venue, inspected everything including the floodlights and were in good condition.

”The floodlight went off while sorting was going on and before you know it, gunshots started coming from that angle”, Fintiri said.

Earlier, Gov. Bello told his Adamawa counterparts that he led some heads of security agencies in the state to come to his hotel to greet him over the unfortunate incident that took place at the PDP primaries’ venue early hour on Wednesday.

Gov. Bello condemned the incidence in a strong term, stressing that what happened at the PDP party primaries did not reflect the character of the good people of Kogi State, and urged the opposition party to put themselves together to complete the exercise.

Bello affirmed that a marching order had been given to security agencies after an extensive meeting to fish-out the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

PoliticsCOZA Pastor, Fatoyinbo, In Our Custody —police by ryloy(op): 12:55pm On Aug 27, 2019
Detectives are presently questioning the founder of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, over the rape allegations levelled against him by Busola, a photographer and wife of popular singer, Timi Dakolo.

The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, said this during an interview with The PUNCH on Tuesday.

Responding to a question, Mba said, “Yes, he is in our custody.”

When asked if the pastor was being detained, the Force spokesman said it was too early to say.

He also said the investigation of Fatoyinbo was proof that the police had not swept the matter under the carpet as was being insinuated in some quarters.

When asked why it took so long for the pastor to be invited, Mba said the police wanted to get statements from several witnesses and then build a solid case before inviting him.

The police spokesman said, “We have done a whole lot of background investigations and spoken to a whole lot of people before now. It was a deliberate investigative procedure to bring him last. Although we may invite others later depending on how investigations go.

“We were not in a hurry to bring him because we wanted to have enough background information that would be used in interrogating him. We have done an extensive investigation.”

PoliticsMiyetti Allah’s Penetration Of S/east Due To Leadership Loopholes by ryloy(op): 8:44am On Jun 29, 2019
In this interview with Saturday Vanguard, Ozalagba spoke on how the association would tackle the problem without creating any tension. He also spoke on why youths should be carried along in the scheme of things in the country. What informed the formation of this association? As the Vice Chairman of the Youth Wing of the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU), I have interacted with various segments of the leaders in the various communities. This made me to think of bringing together youths in the South East for us to handle issues concerning security in the zone. I am therefore one of the proponents of the South East Association of Community Youth Leaders. I met with my colleagues in the other states in the South East and all of us are on the same page for the association to take off. We have been reviewing the situation in the country and found it necessary to come together and galvanize ourselves to work in the best interest of our people, especially as it concerns security. The issue on ground is the alleged move by Miyetti Allah to set up vigilance groups in the South East. How can the youths come in here? I don’t even blame the Miyetti Allah because they are acting based on what they have seen for themselves. They have seen that the people of the South East are not coordinated. Because there is no coordination, they want to exploit the situation. Even if they have ulterior motive, they are pursuing it because they have discovered that our people are not speaking with one voice. It is not enough to condemn the cattle breeders; there must be a proactive action to ensure that whoever believes he can come into the region with such annoying plan should not be encouraged at all. If we are sincere, we can organize ourselves and put up measures that will discourage the cattle breeders to nurse the idea of vigilance groups in the zone in the first place. Their penetration of the South East is due to leadership loopholes in the zone. I must commend the South East governors who have said no to such a move, but more should be done. We are working out plans on how to liaise with the governors. The youths already have a template on this issue and we want all Igbo leaders to be sincere on this matter. Some people should not be charting the way forward, while others are sabotaging the efforts. The truth of the matter is that governments at various levels have not been sincere with the way they handle such sensitive issues. The leaders have not been up and doing in evolving ways of securing our people as a result of this threat. The leaders should build structures that involve youths to be in the picture of what they intend to do. There is no community where the youths do not form the majority and what is required is to give them a sense of belonging. Once the youths are carried along in the scheme of things, they will do whatever they are asked to do. But if you ignore them, they take decisions that are sometimes counterproductive. That is why it is imperative for the youths in this part of the country to come together to galvanize themselves to form a formidable structure. This will help us to organize ourselves and put an end to all these anomalies happening in the society. That is the only way they can support the relevant authorities to improve governance. The truth of the matter is that until the youths are keyed into the plans and programmes at all levels, the security challenges in the country will not abate because they are the most active in the society. There is this impression that youths only come together purposely to enrich themselves and not to solve any societal problem. What do you say to that? This is true and it is as a result of the decay in the society. I do not want to apportion blames, but I must admit that my generation has not been the role model the society expects of them. There is no mentorship any longer and that is why there is this type of cankerworm eating deep into the fabric of the society. Because there are no role models to look up to and people whose sources of wealth are being –recognized in the society, it becomes survival of the fittest. Because of the fractured system, many youths no longer believe in what the leaders tell them. That is why there is need for us to come together to salvage the system. There are some of us who still believe that things will get better if the right leadership is put in place. We have chosen to remain steadfast because we have seen the need to protect the integrity of the youths and their future and safeguard the society. Is it not possible for the youths to stand their feet and rebuff the politicians who often use them to achieve their aims? That is what we want to achieve through the Association of South East Youth Leaders. There is Ohaneze Youth Wing, but we are not interested in that because it is not helping the youths in any way. We know it is not easy, but we have been able to identify many like minds in the South East who are genuinely interested in the reshaping of the ideology of the youths. From our experience so far, there is hope that we shall get the desired result. At what stage is the South East Youth Leaders Association? We have been meeting and I promise that in no distant time, our action shall be felt in the region. What is your target? We want to partner with the relevant stakeholders to stem the tide of insecurity in the South East. That is our ultimate target. Until we achieve that, no youth of this region can rest.

PoliticsNYCN Leadership Dissociates Self From Award Conferred On Obasanjo by ryloy(op): 7:05pm On Jun 28, 2019
The leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Friday dissociated itself from the honour conferred on former President Olusegun Obasanjo in its name, describing those behind the award as charlatans running rackets with the collective identity of Nigeria Youths.

In a statement signed by its Public Relation Officer, Olugbode Damola Hammed, the council described the development as unfortunate and “a daylight robbery.”

The statement read: “The National Leadership of National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, under the leadership of Comrade Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo was dismayed on conceiving the news of an honour conferred on former President of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo as “Father of the Nation” and a donation of One Million Naira cheque to buy books to Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential library by one Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere and Nihi Oladele John in the name of the National Youth Council of Nigeria. This occurrence is not only unfortunate but a national robbery in broad daylight. “For the record, Ikenga Ugochinyere was a former Senior Adviser to Dr. Abubakar Saraki ( Senate President), the spokesman of the Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, and Nihi Oladele John was also a member of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Kogi state campaign team and still a personal assistant to Senator Dino Melaye. “The leadership of the council has on several occasion dissociate self from Ikenga and Nihi who are political jobbers without virtue, and are known scavengers. They do not represent the interest/structure of the council at any level. The general public is therefore advised not to fall victim of the duo.

“It’s worrisome that these charlatans could do this to a prominent personality as the former President of Nigeria. While we sympathize with the former President, we urge him to subsequently ascertain the authenticity of the group with the Ministry of Youths ( a ministry he created) and the necessary security apparatus before opening his door to the impostors.” The statement also cautioned Nigerians to “beware of these fraudsters, Ikenga and Nihi alongside their likes,” saying they “are impostors that go around to exploit innocent Nigerians. Opening your door to these jobbers is at your own peril!” It urged relevant security agencies to intervene and save the council from the hands of “impostors.”
