Religion / Re: Where Is The Correct Place To Pay Our Tithes by sacostyles(m): 9:17pm On Jul 17, 2016 |
kennygee: Just a little analogy that might help... Johnny gained admission to Uniport to study Public Policy. Bisi gained admission to Oxford to read Law. And Nkem gained admission to Lagos Business School. They are all eager to attend their respective schools and graduate with flying colors. Where should each pay their tuition fees? A) to his/her favorite teacher in secondary school B) to the Dean or VC of the University C) to the Widow who often helps out with homework D) to the Registrar or Accounts office of the University? Sam is an acknowledged member of Obedient Children of God Ministries. He wants to enjoy all the blessings of God here on earth and also make heaven. Where should Sam pay his tithe? A) to pastor David who often shares the word with him B) to his parents who introduced him to the ministry and give him a ride home C) to the local foundation for widows and orphaned babies D) to the church administration that manages all the functions of and income to the church? Answering these questions might give you a clue to where you should direct your tithe. May the Spirit of God direct you along your path this week! More Grace |

Forum Games / Our Picture Challenge by sacostyles(m): 12:30am On Dec 09, 2015 |
Maybe as a nation we are pictorially challenged. Most times when I don't have a clear picture of where I want to be, say in the next three to five years, I end up wasting time beating about the bush that I find myself in. Somehow, I think this is the present challenge we are faced with here in Nigeria. I'm pretty sure some of us have heard one of our parents say, "In my time the Naira was trading for three times the Dollar..." or "I landed my first job with only a school cert..." or "... during WAI you wouldn't dare be found littering, let alone peeing on the streets." Stories like these made me feel like our parents lived in some type of 'post-colonial paradise' before the forbidden fruit of 'kwaraption' was coveted by a few that we now so conveniently venerate as the so-called cabals. The truth is (well... according to me, anyway) our elders may be the only ones who remember Nigeria in her past glory before things became so 'bad'. This present generation, since birth, has only experienced life in perpetual degeneration. And ('m sorry to say this) it honestly shows on our faces, but mostly in our attitude towards ourselves. As the saying goes, "What you see is what you get." So, in other words what we get is what we see. Therefore, what we need to see is our leaders painting a clear picture of the "Promised Land" they are supposedly leading us to. We need them to communicate how pleasant it would be for us if we agreed to cooperate and give change a chance, like a father does with his kid on his first day to school; and not just 'chance' the change. But (and I know it is improper to start a sentence with a 'but', but this is a very BIG BUT) as a nation we desperately need to open our hearts and our minds to a collective vision of a brighter tomorrow and join hands to work out this 'jigsaw puzzle' together. We have seen too much of the BAD in Nigeria that we've somehow forgotten what GOOD really looks like (or sounds like, or feels like, or smells like, or tastes like). So... for starters... grab a picture... now "go to your happy place..." Yours truly |
Politics / The Nigeria You Want Is Already With You by sacostyles(m): 1:34pm On Nov 30, 2015 |
Sometimes when I think about the socio-economic situation of my native country, the chaos caused by a corrupt political system, the oppression and suffering of the common people, and the deplorable state of our youth (who should be the leaders of now by now, but are tending to become the moochers of tomorrow), I cannot help but burry my head (no, not in the sand…) in search through history for answers as to why things are the way they are and how they could improve; and to at least console myself with the thought that no civilization was ever immune to this sort of decadence at some point in time. However, I did stumble upon an event during biblical times that reminds me of the sort of challenges faced by those who chant the ‘Change Mantra’. First, a little caveat: though I make reference to the “good book” this remains a topic of conscience. The characters mentioned happen to be more than just historical figures to me. So here we go... Once upon a time, Jesus moved about healing the sick, raising the dead, and performing myriads of miracles in the lives of the most unfortunate and helpless in his society, but he came to a point on his mission where he paused and realized the more he did the more he still had to do! I try to imagine how he must have felt when he looked out at an overwhelming multitude of people pouring out from the forgotten corners of his neighborhood in need of help; • people that didn’t know where their next meal would come from, • people threatened by civil unrests and made homeless by terrorist activities, wars and anthropogenic disasters, • people sickened with diverse ailments caused by obvious societal negligence and gross environmental mismanagement… just to name a few. He knew he had the power to offer help, but even if he were to share himself into twelve he could not even reach out to a tenth of them in time (Mt 9:35-38). So now I ask myself, what would I do when I know all hope would be lost if nothing could be done immediately to help the situation of things? Sometimes I get exhausted merely by staring at the mountain of responsibilities before me, and honestly I retire before even taking a step. Who do you confide in when you realize how frail you are, and the people looking up and/or to you begin to suspect you don’t know what you’re doing? Sometimes, in a decay is found the perfect condition for a seed to grow... MLK once looked at the broken situation of the black youth in America, and the bleak future for his little children in society and yet declared the “I have a dream” speech. In the late 80s, Mandela stared at the dark walls of his prison cell and saw the end of apartheid in his beloved South Africa. Not to talk about the one man that brought an entire colonial might to her knees in the late 1940s. So he quipped: “the harvest is truly plenty but the laborers are few.” And in this honest moment with his followers, and in further investigation into what followed, I learnt many divine principles I would love to share with you and maybe perfect in my own journey when met with a moment of truth: 1) The law of Sacrifice (which I term the Law of One) – From this law proceed all others. Everything starts and ends with one; one person, one act, and one opportunity. Whatever you want to see in the world you have to give it first. A grain of wheat doesn’t produce until it falls to the ground and “dies” (germinates). 2) The Law of Empowerment – Lift others up and they will in turn lift you up. Whatever you have share it with others, no matter their level compared to yours. Someone once shared with you something you weren’t qualified for and it improved your life. You perfect your learning of what you teach others. That was the whole point of the movie Lucy. 3) Law of instruction – One performs better when he/she knows better. Lay down rules and guidelines specific to their roles. 4) Law of priority – Go with the most elementary or familiar challenges, then move on to the next. 5) Law of focus – Go ask jack of all trade “who is master of none?” 6) The Law of Initiative – Start! Do something! Anything! Learn from it, and then do the next. A wise man once said, “Don’t get hung up on what step four is when you haven’t completed step first.” Another said, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” 7) Law of Supplication (I term this the Law of Ask, ask and ask again!) – A well directed and incessant, heartfelt request of a sincere man works very well and is very profitable for him. Finally, there is always a divine help that accompanies one who abides by these principles. I pray I have made a new powerful friend today that can help me make a better Nigeria. I pray you feel the energy you need to make your life better in Nigeria. I pray the positive transformation we need in Nigeria begins to manifest; but it can't if we cannot first see it in our minds. Have a nice day. |

your passion about what you believe is admirable, yet remember it's easy to criticize your government and much easier to re-inforce a negative mindset about it... unfortunately there's no honor in that (it's like kicking someone when they are down, or exposing your drunk father's unclothedness to your neighbors). try picking out a few positives and focus on that... or better yet proffer solutions for what you critique. guessing from your 'likes' your opinion matters to a lot of people anyaekekehinde: |

arresa: honestly my brother... i don't understand these people sometimes... statements like their's all over the place makes it seem as if Nigerians are unpatriotic... let's keep praying for Nigeria instead of expecting her to fail... it's the only 'earthly' home most of us have... Baifra has not yet been realized and I think Germany has enough people already seeking asylum endtime mentality Anyway we are permitted to air our opinions even when they are misguided, just as officials are permitted to make a few mistakes in reporting issues, as long as they are not detrimental to the nation-state. You are very hard working right... 1 question... are the results showing? I hear that one of the worst things in life is to be hard working at the wrong things. 1 more question... have you heard of the concept of smart work or leveraging? Perhaps if you leveraged off financially prudent person you could achieve your desired result and end up even helping the prudent person... E.g... my mum is very free handed person. She bought a keke and put it on hire-purchase. She gave it to one of her nephews to manage it for her for a commission at very little cost to her. He's a prudent go getter in his final year at futo. After 6 months he now owns and operates a small scale fish farm from the little money he made managing this keke for my mum. And he is still in school... and my mum uses that little money she gets from her keke biz to buy new shoes and hand bags for her people. I'm a network marketer and I run a medium scale business and train others to start and run theirs also. Dyt: |

I don't have to be business inclined to succeed in business. Look at bill gates or mark Zuckerberg for example. I just know that I shouldn't have any stories for my unborn generation when there is no food on the table. just like success in school comes down to learning and applying principles, perhaps a similar mindset is required for business, except I wanna remain broke all my life #BloodOfJesus and if you didn't get it right in school it doesn't mean you will get a "let my people go" result at business. That is also a common misconception. I'lI be back with more of these at a later date... |
