JideSM:
So sorry about this. Please send STATUS to 799 via sms to confirm your registration status.

Hello Mr Jide,

I tried sending Status to 799 as you mentioned but received a response to dial *789# to check my status. However, on dialing the code, I got no response only an error message.

I hope you can escalate this issue to ensure that at least one of the two systems works. It would prevent customers and you guys from a lot of stress.

Now, I don't know if I'm registered or not and I'll have to go join a queue.

Thanks.

Let's assume there was a question with answer options A, B, & C. The catch is that, the answer you choose isn't the one that's graded. Rather, it's the answer you believe in with your heart. The suggestion in your post is like choosing option A on paper but believing in option B. Sorry to burst your bubble, but your plan wouldn't help you in the least.

Everyone knows deep in themselves that there's only one True God deserving of all worship. Sadly, only few accept to actually believe and act by that.

Hey, thanks for this compilation, rationalmind. It's been quite useful. Your type of grit and determination is something we all need but most lack.

Do you mind adding a summary post with the main points of the previous posts mentioned for easy review and reference by readers?

Thanks.

@op I'll also like to take a look at the structure of your CV not just the content. If you don't mind sending it to me, you could pm me.

I'm afraid you're probably looking for jobs the wrong way. Check out these 2 guides by a fellow Nairalander (not me!):

"Free Guide: How I helped 6 people get jobs in about 2 months"

https://gbudoh.

I really really found them useful and I trust that if you follow the advice on there you would get a job within some months (barring any other obstacles). Let me know how it goes...

Career / Re: My Friend Was Fired because Of Me Should I Quit The Job Also? Advice Pls by SadiqDO(m): 9:03am On Aug 09, 2015
A lot has been said. My 2 cents:

1. Don't quit the job because of him. You both would probably be worse of if you did that. Like someone mentioned, would you be happy keeping him as a friend if he becomes happy with you when you quit?

2. Don't leave the apartment, yet. Give him time, be nice, take on expenses in the house, support him financially (but not in a way that would make him feel inferior - send money to his account instead of handing him money directly). I believe he's just feeling quite bad and needs some time to recuperate. Your being nice should help him think clearly and realize it's not your fault quicker.

3. Help him find another job and keep it.

... Which brings me to ask: did you attempt to help him get better at work when he was being chastised by your boss? If you didn't, that's really not nice if you. Maybe that's why he's mad? Apologize in that case.

If the equation were such that it compressed to be 6-1+1 ?
I could say that i have (6-1)+1 or 6-(1+1).

I once taught JS2 students factorization and at least a few of then would understand very well that 6-1+1 is not equal to 6-(1+1). Rather, 6-1+1 = 6-(1-1) [by factorization rules, if you want to bring out the minus sign].

It's either you're making a big mistake or all this talk from you is just one big joke!

Even the debate over the application of bodmas was never resolved among all the experts who ushered it into standard form....
That zero makes a confusing difference and can help people discover the arbitrary nature of mathe in its pure form.
You keep talking about "Mathe", pure maths, dialects and what not. If you could only bring some evidence for your claims. But please don't say that BODMAS is being used incorrectly. Here's what Wikipedia says about the order of operations:

The order of operations used throughout mathematics, science, technology and many computer programming languages is expressed here:[2]

- exponents and roots
- multiplication and division
- addition and subtraction

(Source: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_operations )

So it's Addition AND Subtraction. NOT addition then Subtraction. Both have Equal order of precedence. Neither precedes the other. Please.

Simply put: if I have 6 oranges in a bag, take away none (zero) and then add 1 orange, how many would there be in the bag eventually?! 5?! Or 7?

Like many have said, this is primary school maths and it's quite sad a simple question like this has become a debate. It's a challenge for us to step up our game and improve ourselves intellectually. There are many resources in the Web for learning - instead of wasting data money and time on gossip, movies and what not. And then we complain we can't get jobs!! We really are the bane of our own problems.

Good morning, and thanks for your comments.

The natural human is very weak and indisciplined and will most likely continue in the same of success or even failure [until] situations and circumstances force them to have a rethink. ... As we waste our time, we waste our lives.

True. Very true points. Thanks for responding and for the advice. It's much appreciated.

The big job now is to strive against that weakness and indiscipline.
Career / Re: A Friend Lost His Job: How To Future-proof Your Career! by SadiqDO(m): 10:58pm On Jul 27, 2015
Thanks for the great points, dearpreye. Really important and eye-opening, especially the first three points. I'm afraid the general trend is that unless our jobs force us to gain a new skill or learn something new, most of us act like electricity - follow the path of least resistance and do only what the job requires, no more, but perhaps less. And then we wonder why people hardly move far from their first positions for several years.

But what do you suggest in a case where the current job takes so much time that it hardly leaves any for personal development? And what's your advice for a person who finds himself in a state of inertia when it comes to continuous learning except when encouraged in a physical community of learners?

Programming / Re: My First (finished) Nwjs_nodejs/javascript Desktop App by SadiqDO(m): 4:15pm On Jul 02, 2015

Thanks.

Yes. I used just nw.js & node.js 4 d development. For d UI (layout/design) I used HTML 5 & CSS with d menu bar module dat is already embedded in d nwjs runtime. JSON (javascript object notation) too is part of what one will write for d appearance of d window or alternatively u use d window module.

Thanks a bunch for sharing. I hope you get even better.

Op, Congrats on building this. It does look quite good. Keep working hard and improving yourself.

I'm trying to get my head around it though. Still quite a newbie when it comes to these JavaScript technologies. Was it just NW.js and Node.js you used? How about layout, design and stuff?

Thanks...

What you need to do now is gain some serious intermediate-expert level competency in various skills esp skills like Problem solving, Interpersonl skiils, Communication skills, critical thinking/questioning. You should also develop your research I.e knowing where/ how to obtain information and to properly harness or utilize said info for profit.

Thank you for this very important piece of advice. I've always heard people suggest improving on particular technical skills and gaining more knowledge (which is essential) but can't remember ever being advised to work on improving soft-skills. But how would you advise one goes about that?

Thanks again.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: vacancies At Beni American University by SadiqDO(m): 8:22am On Jun 23, 2015
Thanks so much for doing your research about the school. After spending some minutes browsing through the University's site and related sites, I was sure it was no fluke. In fact, it seems to me that it'll be close to world-class. It's appalling to see people shoot down the university without doing basic research.

Ukanwoke does not plan to be restricted to the internet though. While changes in technology have helped encourage and build-up the introduction and use of different platforms of education; and despite the fact that in other parts of the world, online degrees are gaining recognition, Nigerian educational regulations stipulate that online schools must have a physical campus. That’s why he is building physical structures for B.A.U in Benue State, for which hectares of land have been purchased from the indigenes.

As a piece of advice, please let your educational standard reflect in your writing. I figure you might have been in a hurry, but seeing the way you typed your words, I'd have assumed you at best had a 2:1 from some Nigerian University. A "distinction" in "MSc" from a "top" "UK" University would never have crossed my mind.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Huawei Graduate Trainee Recruitment 2014 by SadiqDO(m): 6:11pm On Dec 26, 2014
Good day all,

First, thanks a lot to all those that have contributed to this thread especially ibksolar and slimtriggaman.

Here's just to share my experience in the Huawei recruitment process in hopes it would help someone else in the future. A lot has already been said by ibksolar and slimtriggaman but to add my 2 cents:

1) To prepare for the aptitude test, try some sample GRE questions. It's helpful to have an idea of the type of questions that would be asked - it'd make you faster on the actual test. Searching on Google for sample questions could help.

2) For the Technical Interview, study the material hard - to the best of your ability. And while waiting for the interview, try reviewing with other interviewees - it could help.

3) For the HR interview, it could help to revise how you would introduce yourself, your background and how Huawei fits into your future goals. Also revise about the company, it's values etc. Try searching online for tips and advice on general job interview. You might not have to answer these questions and your interview MIGHT be much easier but there's never any harm preparing harder than required.

4) For the big one: the Directors' Interview:
A) Stuff that may increase your chances:
i - Having a good background: first class, foreign degree or relevant experience (in Telecom company). In my experience, most of such graduates if not all were selected.
ii - Being a group leader, one that writes on the board, or presenter (in my case, the presenter was different from the leader). All but one of folks that held these 3 posts were selected. [And maybe being the time keeper, but I'm not sure.] BUT don't take up this post if you may not be able to fulfill it properly and also don't force yourself upon others if you're not selected, rather:
iii - Be active in the group, let yourself be heard (but explain yourself and don't scream!), and interact with the group leader and other members nicely. This would lead to the 4th point:
iv - When others are asked to select people to be chosen, I noticed it was mostly the group members and those described above in (i) [i.e. with foreign degrees or first class]. Getting selected by these should increase your chances.

B) Stuff that may decrease your chances:
i - Badmouthing others: speaking badly about other group members. If you may disagree, explain your stance politely.
ii - Screaming during the team work just to be heard especially when you're unable to explain your points
iii - Try your very best NOT TO ARRIVE LATE! You may be automatically be kicking a lifetime opportunity down the drain ....

C) Extra stuff:
i - When asked to introduce ourselves, we were told to do so in 30 secs.
ii - They had asked for those who had experience with NEPA/PHCN. We noticed afterwards that all those that stood up then were not picked. I don't know if there's any connection or just a coincidence.
iii - Listen to and follow instructions closely.
iv - Try to note those with first class or foreign degrees during the introductions and pay attention (and perhaps, take notes) when the film is played.
