In no too distant future, traditional marriages will be conducted by Nigerians in the UK, US and other foreign nations.

The era of conducting traditional marriages in our local communities will soon be archaic.

No thanks to insecurities.

EducationRe: The Types Of Exams We Need For Schools And Academic Institutions In Nigeria by saintopus(m): 9:51am On Nov 25, 2022

Hahaha! Not as easy as you have put it o grin. I taught Chemistry in a public school in South-West where many students could barely express themselves in English language and Omo, I did try to use Yoruba as much as possible but how do you say 'Electrolysis' in Yoruba naa? Let alone explain the whole concept. Me that my normal use of Yoruba is wack. grin

What I did was to ensure I did some little class practicals and also used very relatable examples, most of the time. For example, I remember mentioning how people who fry akara in large quantities add pieces of charcoal to slow down the rate of fermentation of the grinded beans while frying... To explain rate of reactions and effect of catalysts. I made analogies, mnemonics etc and it helped.

While I think teaching in local languages is great and has positive effects, I feel the issue of multiple languages might be limiting. Say, a child born in Enugu, being taught in Igbo through his early years, now has to relocate to Delta at age 10, where they don't speak his language... How will he cope? Or states like Lagos with much diversity, what local language will be the language of instruction. Those are my thoughts.

The whole Education sector in Nigeria needs myriad of solutions jare embarassed
I agree completely, this is why I said that it has start from the kindergarten or nursery education.

I also thaught Chemistry in a small community in Odeda LGA of Abiokuta in Ogun State when I was in NYSC. From Rivers State with multiple culture and languages it's indeed difficult to teach the sciences in our Local Languages.

However curriculum developers can still find a way of doing it.

As a chemist, I realized the shortcoming in expressing the scientific laws and methods in the local language.

This is why it's very important to rewrite curriculum for the educational sector.

Good submissions OP. Especially, in the tertiary education stage.

Graduating from the higher institution with no idea of how to apply your course of study to real life situation is such a waste of time and money embarassed embarassed embarassed
The courses I really enjoyed and passed well in school were the practical and applicable ones. For instance, this course where we had paternity dispute case studies, or the one we learnt about genetic modification or the one where we learnt about population nutrition and designing healthy nutrition plan. Totally enjoyable courses. These were courses that could give a student a sense of career direction but sadly, they didn't come until final year.

Sad when I see students of really practicable courses oblivious of the ways they can maximize their knowledge, even as students. For instance, imagine a student of International Relations or something that has to do with people, who doesn't like attending conferences and formal events or has no idea he should be actively involved in organizations like AIESEC and others that will build their diplomacy skills and give them experience and exposure. But you can't totally blame them, they are just victims of a system that hasn't exposed their minds to reality.

That's why the advice for young people to study relevant and in-demand courses is good but not enough, people have to learn to use their knowledge for the real world.
I'll give it up for a UI lecturer who made it essential for many of his students to watch the just concluded Kadaria Ahmed's Presidential Debate. Some of them felt he was being extra but boyy, if only they knew how he was helping them.

So, true, higher institutions have to include practicality to their courses, right from year one to final year. Not that scam of final year project grin More platforms for students to gain experience and be able to offer value to organizations and the society even as fresh graduates. Also, students have to be intentional about adding values to themselves, thank goodness the internet is now there.

No, we all don't have to be techies but we all can be innovative in whatever field we have chosen or "gotten". wink
Very correct.

You can imagine what will happen if our Local Languages were used to teach let's say Science from the Nursery to the University.

We would have been probably producing NOBEL PRIZE winners.!!!

PoliticsHerdsmen Abduct Villagers Demand New Naira Note by saintopus(op): 2:54pm On Nov 23, 2022
Suspected terrorists have abducted four persons consisting a man, woman and two children, in Kolo village, in the Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that following the victims’ abduction, the suspects demanded N10m ransom and rejected the old naira notes.

An indigene in the area, Mohammed Ibrahim, said the bandits later reduced the ransom to N5m, adding that people in the village had been trying to raise the money to secure the safe release of the victims.

“As we were trying to gather the money demanded by the terrorists, they sent another message this morning that they would not collect old naira notes.

“They said they would keep the abducted persons in their camps until the release of the new naira notes in December,” Ibrahim said.

Calls made to the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Mohammed Shehu, and the state Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Dosara, rang out.

Text messages sent to their mobile numbers were yet to be responded to as of the time of filing this report.

In another development on Tuesday, gunmen kidnapped a politician of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Nduka Anyanwu, in Imo State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Anyanwu, who is one of the party’s House of Assembly candidates, was campaigning with his supporters when the gunmen invaded the rally and whisked him away.

Narrating how the abduction happened, a source said, “The gunmen stopped him (Anyanwu) on the way as he was going to finalise arrangements for his polling agents. We are yet to ascertain where they took him to and the kidnappers are yet to make any contact.”

Contacted, the APGA Chairman in the state, John Iwuala, who confirmed the kidnap, said the politician had been freed.

Iwuala said, “Yes, our candidate was kidnapped early this morning, but just as we were about to report it officially, we heard that the kidnappers had released him. The kidnappers collected all he had with him as at the time he was kidnapped.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mike Abattam, said he was yet to be informed about the incident.

We have very poor choices for this election.

It's very boring.

Perhaps it would have been really interesting if we had.

1 Peter Obi of PDP Or Wike

2. Osibanjo of APC or Amaechi

3. Kwankwanso of NNPP.

But now we have very poor choices.

Any vote for Peter Obi in the South East and South South increased the chance of Tinubu wining the election.

There could be a run off of the election.
