In the right direction. Nigerians are tired of estimated bills since time immemorial |
Electricity consumers across the country who are on estimated billing are to pay lesser than their counterparts who have been provided with meters, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has said. The Chairman of NERC, Dr. Sam Amadi, who said this in Abuja at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, said a new regulation was coming to compel electricity distribution companies to provide meters for all their customers within four months or accept a cap on what they could charge as estimated bills. Amadi said after four months of moratorium, the firms would not be able to charge such consumers beyond what would be prescribed according to the region or zone where the customer was based. According to him, the ceiling of the tariff, which a customer on estimated billing can pay, is an incentive for the distribution firms to metre call customers, adding that the capped tariff would be significantly lower than what metred customers pay. The NERC boss said after 16 months, customers of a distribution company who had not been metred would be freed from paying any tariff at all until they were provided with meters. He said, “In view of the Discos’ negative attitude to metering, an option worth considering to incentivise metering is to place a limit on the ability of a Disco to arbitrarily estimate consumers who are not metered. “This has the tendency of encouraging the Discos to accelerate the implementation of metering plans that have been talked about but not implemented before privatisation and after taking over the management of the Discos.” Amadi added, “The commission has chosen to issue an order setting the cap but with an effective implementation date after a moratorium of four months to allow the distribution companies to appropriately adjust their metering programmes. “All estimates being imposed by the Discos within the moratorium period shall be strictly based on the commission’s billing estimation methodology. As soon as the capping regulation commences, the extant regulation on estimation methodology will be vacated. “Metering is a critical component of the business of electricity. It serves as the only parameter for quantifying energy delivered and energy utilised by the supplier and consumer respectively.” http://www.punchng.com/business/business-economy/electricity-consumers-on-estimated-billing-to-pay-less-2/ |
What do you expect when a judge presides over his own case? |
The saibaba group will say "give us more time, after all GEJ didn't declare his. " |
I really don't know why Nigerians and politicians are acting like this. Very hypocritical and selfish, filled with so much propaganda and hatred. Just not too long ago, a speaker in the House of Representative emerges against party's opinion. Most people celebrated that as a victory for democracy. So why are they not celebrating now that Saraki emerges outside party's opinions? I am reacting based on the recent development which shows that many people from a section of the country are highly pained because of the Saraki issue. This is very obvious on many news coming from Sahara Reporters. |

The All Progressives Congress (APC) bridge of change is gradually undergoing avoidable turbulence at the federal level and nobody seems to be in control at the centre except one, two or three ambitious northerners camouflaging individual interests as those of the entire country. And without equivocation, the avoidable leadership squabble in the National Assembly must have emanated from the antics of these men who have stayed long enough in the corridors of have now forgotten that they have nothing more to contribute to the country but trouble. The unraveling power game, though unnecessary, is a testimony to the need for the altruistic leadership of the ruling party to think deeply now about how to rescue the party from imminent perdition from inordinately ambitious members. And the sad truth is that the buck stops on President Muhammadu Buhari’s table as leader of the party; he must do something to guarantee party supremacy that governors under the platform are demanding. Now that the party with the ‘change’ mantra has mounted the saddle, what Nigerians are being subjected to is another theatre of the absurd as senators’ and Reps are in leadership contest. The man at the heart of the bout is Dr Bukola Saraki who won the Senate Presidency through subterfuge in an election that deliberately ensured that half of senators were disenfranchised. This development has kept mouths agape while pundits are wondering if the defiance to party order by Saraki was not without the backing of powerful elements within the fold. Saraki had gone ahead to defy the party on the list of other principal officers of the red chamber. Speaker Dogara equally played the Saraki game in the appointment of principal officers for the House of Representatives. |
APC never voted for Dr. Saraki and Sent. Dogora. You guys cannot eat your cake and have it. What goes around comes around. Law of Karma. |
Most Rivers people will not key into this |

Lalasticlala! Does this merit a FP? |
Dollyak:Nigerian politicians have always been like this, devoid of political and sound leadership idealogies! |
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said it has adopted Senator Bukola Saraki for the position of Senate President in the National Assembly leadership election to be held today. In the same vein, the PDP said it has adopted Hon. Yakubu Dogara for the position of the Speaker of the House of Representatives. In a statement by National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, the party urged its senators and members-elect in the House of Representatives to support its candidates. It said,” The party therefore urges its senators and members-elect in the National Assembly to act accordingly.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/06/breaking-news-nass-leadership-pdp-adopts-saraki-dogara/ |
