This was the question asked by Punch today on their relationship section. So am asking you NLers to answer this question. Marriage counsellors say it is normal for people to share their workplace experiences with their spouses; in fact, they are supposed to act as confidants to each other. Assuming their spouses confide in them that they stole N100m from government coffers, some Nigerians told SATURDAY PUNCH what they would dohttp://www.punchng.com/feature/adam-eve/if-your-spouse-confides-in-you-that-heshe-stole-n100m-from-government-what-will-you-do/ |

With these topics APC and Lai Mohammed will certainly lack topics to serve those vulnerable ones that feed on propaganda. |

Nigerian leaders are ill prepared to govern a modern nation. we may be in for a long thing |
4Play:I could not agree less. But I believe a steady fall in the price of oil in the global market may trigger off a need for a review of some poor economic decision like holding on to subsidies and not deregulating and diversifying the economy. To me,I somehow believe that one cannot give what he does not have. Incidentally, those close to the President like Oshomole,Rochas, and many others lack the economic decision making ideas in contemporary business context. I believe we are going to face a challenging moment |
eleven:This is the reason men of good will always say that this present administration in tackling the menace of corruption is mere propaganda and lack genuine legal approach towards bringing down the level of corruption. Very respected people like Rev Father M.Kukah has sounded very loud and clear that the approach towards bringing down the level of corruption is wrong. Many APC followers regard the most revered man of God to be aiding corruption. The days of military impunity is long gone. Nigeria is no longer in military era any more. Rule of law must prevail. Little wonder some APC goons and followers say that for Buhari to function in a democracy he needs to suspend the constitution. It is indeed a pity that after 16years of democracy most people do not learn the difference between military government and a democracy. |
owobokiri:Good thinking !Good product ! |
The staggering truth is that FG have no business running business. They provide the atmosphere for the growth of business but not to run the business itself. Private business more especially in the Telecom industry has shown us that government are poor business manager. |

http://www.punchng.com/politics/of-buharis-cold-feet-over-asset-declaration/ In this piece,ENIOLA AKINKUOTUlooks atthe refusal of President Muhammadu Buhari to declare his assets publicly in thelight of his anti-corruption crusadePresident Muhammadu Buhari shocked many Nigerians last October when he announced that he took a loan of N27.5m to buy the All Progressives Congress’ expression of interest and nomination forms for the 2014 presidential primary. The act endeared the Katsina-born general to many who saw his stance as a departure from the profligacy which characterised the campaign of some of his opponents. It also gave him an edge over his co-contestants in the party who included the then Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso; a former vice-president, Atiku Abubakar; Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, and the publisher of Leadership newspapers, Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah.While also delivering his speech shortly before delegates voted at the APC presidential primary which held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, in Lagos, last December, Buhari said, “I have always served Nigeria to the best of my ability. I have always tried to give more to the nation than it has given me. This is the principle of service that has guided my public life. Thus, I am not a rich person.“I can’t give you a pocketful of dollars or naira to purchase your support. Even if I could, I would not do so. The fate of this nation is not up for sale. What I will give you and this nation is all of my strength, commitment, sweat and toil in the service of the people. What I can give you is my all.”Buhari maintained that he was the only former Head of State that does not have a house in Abuja despite also being a former petroleum minister and former military governor. This emotional speech inspired many of the delegates at the jam-packed stadium, causing Buhari to win convincingly as the number of votes he garnered surpassed those of others combined. Buhari polled 3,430 votes while Kwankwaso, who came second, scored 974 votes. Former vice-president Abubakar got 954 votes to occupy the third position. In his three months of campaign, posters of ‘Sai Buhari’ and ‘Sai mai Gaskiya’ meaning “an honest person,” and “tested and trusted” adorned major cities in Nigeria. At the climax of the presidential campaign, Buhari stated that he would publicly declare his assets and liabilities, if voted into power.Buhari stated this in a document which highlights what he would do in his first 100 days in office. He said he would encourage political appointees in his administration to also declare their assetspublicly.Buhari, in the document titled, “I pledge to Nigeria,” also said that all his political appointees would only earn salaries and allowances as prescribed by the Revenue and Mobilisation and Fiscal Allocation Commission. He said, “I pledge to publicly declare my assets and liabilities, encourage all my appointees to publicity declare their assets and liabilities as a pre-condition forappointment. “All political appointees will only earn the salaries and allowances determined by the RMFAC.”The promise again gave Buhari an electoral boost because the late PresidentUmaru Yar’Adua was the first and the onlyNigerian President to have publicly declared his assets when he assumed office.Buhari’s promise also threatened the chances of the then President, Goodluck Jonathan, who had said during a live media chat that he did not give a damn about public declaration of assets.Jonathan, when asked why he had refused to publicly declare his assets as an example for members of his cabinet, said, “The issue of public asset declaration is a matter of personal principle. That is the way I see it, and I don’t give a damn about it, even if you criticise me from heaven.”However, many Nigerians were shocked when after being inaugurated as the President, Buhari and Vice-President YemiOsinbajo, declared their assets to the Code of Conduct Bureau as required by the constitution but failed to make the contents public as promised. The development has even been compounded by the fact that 80 days afterBuhari and Osinbajo took over, they have not commenced the process of having theCCB verify details of their declared assets. The Chairman of the CCB, Sam Saba, said the bureau was prepared to commence the verification of assets declared by the president and the vice-president, but said the CCB was awaiting a convenient time for the two leaders to carry out the exercise. He said a conference verification which involves the examination of the particulars of an asset and the field verification which requires physical validation of a listed property had yet to be done.He said, “For instance, if you say you havethree vehicles, let us see the registration numbers. We don’t have to see all the details. “Once we are able to see the receipts of the purchase of the vehicles orthe registration documents, we are satisfied. But we still have to see them physically and that is the second stage which we call field verification.”The possibility of Buhari declaring his assets publicly might have further dimmed as his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, has said Buhari never promised to make his assetspublic. He said rather, it was the APC that made the promise during the campaign. While speaking with a social commentator, Kayode Ogundamisi, duringan interview, Adesina said, “You need to get his words right. Go and check all that the President said during the campaign. Inno place would you see it attributed to him as a person.“But then there is a document by his party, the APC, saying he would declare publicly. So, we need to set that right; it was a declaration by his party. The law requires public officers to declare their assets and he has done that.”Adesina added that after the CCB had verified the assets, Buhari could choose to make it public or not.The Nigerian constitution states in Chapter VI , Section 140, that a person elected to the Office of the President shallnot begin to perform the functions of that office until he has declared his assets andliabilities as prescribed in the constitution.Although Buhari has committed no crime by failing to declare his assets publicly, many see it as a betrayal of trust as well as a setback in his ferocious war against corruption. Also, separating the promises Buhari made from those his party made during the electioneering seems to be an ominous sign of what to expect of APC’s promises such as free meals for pupils, allowance for unemployed youths and N5,000 for every poor family.A civil society group, Stop Impunity Nigeria, invoking the Freedom of Information Act, applied to the CCB to request copies of the completed assets declaration forms by Buhari and Osinbajo. However, the CCB declined the request. The CCB cited the absence of a prescribedlaw by the National Assembly authorising the release of such information to the public, thereby making it impossible for anyone to know Buhari’s assets.Responding to the development, the Socio-Economic Right Accountability Project, argued that the declaration beforethe CCB alone fell short of the commitment to publicly declare assets. The group said Buhari’s public declarationof assets would boost his fight against corruption. The Executive Director, SERAP, Mr. Adetokunbo Mumuni, said, “SERAP recallsthat the President had said before the election that he would publicly declare hisassets and liabilities, and encourage all his appointees to publicly declare their assets and liabilities as a pre-condition forappointment.“Public disclosure of assets will give the general public a true picture of the assets of the President and the Vice-President and will send a powerful message that it is not going to be business as usual with this government.“This will also follow the best practice by former President Umaru Yar’Adua, boost this government’s fight against corruptionand impunity.’’SERAP stated that public disclosure of assets provided a baseline and means of assets to identify assets that might have been corruptly acquired and for which a public official might legitimately be asked to account for.SERAP also “urged the President to urgen |

’No pressure can stop anti-graft moves’ PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari yesterday gave a fresh indication that he might be forced to reverse or if possible, abandon some inherited economic policies from the past administration, if doing so would lead to the creation of more jobs for Nigerians. The President stated this during a meeting at the Presidential Villa with the Executive members of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN).Meanwhile, the President said that all persons charged with stealing the nation’s resources will have their day in court and that, upon conviction, their ill-gotten wealth will be seized and returned to government coffers.Buhari directed the Ministries of Industries, Trade and Investment, and Finance, as well as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other relevant government agencies to evolve before next year’s budget, new policies to boostdomestic manufacturing.According to him “We are in difficult times economically, but we’ll continue todo our best for manufacturing to pick up.We must begin to behave as if we have no oil at all. “We will gladly have policy somersaults, if it will mean more jobs, particularly for youths.I campaigned on three major planks. To effectively secure our country, provide employment through revamping the economy, and wage a relentless war against corruption.I intend to keep faith with these promises,” the President assured Nigerians that no amount of pressure will make him give up the war against corruption in the country. He lamented that the textile industry thatemployed about 320,000 people in the past only parades about 30,000 now. “It shows the carelessness of past governments, if almost 300,000 people lose jobs in a single sector. We have a clear idea of how we can stimulate employment and we will work very hard to do so,” Buhari added . The MAN President, Dr Frank Udemba Jacobs had appealed for a review of policies that stifle the manufacturing sector, noting that the importance of a robust manufacturing sector for the general well-being of the economy cannot be over-emphasized.In an address to a group of Nigerians who marched to the Presidential Villa to pledge their full support for his administration’s anti-corruption campaign, Buhari, however, promised a relentless prosecution of the war againstcorruption with due regard for the rule of law. Buhari stressed that the time has come for a real change, saying “I believe it is time for Nigeria to change course. That is why I sought election as President and got elected. As President, I am determined that Nigeria must move away from a course of endemic corruption that was leading us to perdition. “There can be no question of our willfully allowing anyone to get away with corruption. No matter the pressure and entreaties, the anti-corruption war will continue and all accused persons will have their day incourt,” the President said.Welcoming the support of the group – Nigerians March Against Corruption, President Buhari, who was represented by his Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), Femi Adesina, also reaffirmed his commitment to curbing insecurity in the country and boosting employment opportunities for Nigerians, especially the youth. He called for continued support and solidarity of Nigerians as his administration works to correct the wrongs of the past. The Nigerians MarchAgainst Corruption led by Aisha Yesufu had condemned recent statements by some individuals against the President’s anti-corruption campaign. They assured the President that vast majority of ordinary Nigerians fully support his ongoing efforts to curb corruption, and urged him not to be deterred by the antics of those who do not share his laudable vision of a fairer, more equitable, corruption-free and progressive nation. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/2015/08/i-may-reverse-jonathan-economic-policies-says-buhari/ |
Beremx:In our democracy I have not seen any governor lasting a full tenure of the administration in a house of Assembly where the governor is in another political party. Fayose was able to go through it because it was not up to four months before the expiration of the Assembly. It would have been a difficult task if it was four or three years interval. I gave the Amaechi style as a way forward but that will be difficult because the Assembly members are not in the same party with the governor. |
size40:Let us assume Dakuku wins in the election tribunal. How is he going to govern a state house of assembly where all its members are PDP. Let us also assume that he will close down both the judiciary and the house of assembly as Amaechi did.How are they going to pass laws considering the fact that APC law makers which are three in number can not form a majority to enable a legislative passage of any law.. Let us also assume that they annulled the election in the house of assembly. A task that will indict the INEC Chairman. In all fairness I think the Rivers state election even if they give to Peterside he will find it difficult to govern the state. My opinion though |
I begin to wonder what the APC are really saying. So much inconsistent in their various statement. At one point it was N6Billion and later increased to N9.2Billion and now finally to N11Billion. Now let us consider the following scenario, who are we really going to say that really loot the nation between Amaechi and Wike. The former was in PDP and later moved to APC, while the latter has been a PDP Member ever since. To me if any money of such magnitude was stolen then it was stolen by both parties since most of them are constantly defecting from one political party to another To me, are doing the mind game to distract people from asking the true dividend of democracy. |

EgusiSoup:let's assume APC win in the election in Bayelsa state the PDP members in the house of Assembly whose members are in majority may impeached the governor in no too distant time. Fayose was successful because the election was less than four months interval. If the election was up to two years difference Fayose would not have survived it. It will be difficult for the APC governor except all the PDP members in the house will defect to APC. |
CALABAR- TWENTY seven year old Cyril Etim Ojar, who beheaded James Eni, a pastor of an Evangelical church in Old Netim, Akamkpa local government area of Cross River State has remained defiant stating that he would do it again if the circumstance that led to his killing the pastor arises.
