Former Governor of Borno state, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, on Monday distanced himself from the arms-laden plane detained at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano. The former governor and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was reported by an online newspaper to have paid a visit to the Kano Airport at the weekend to lobby for the release of the plane that was said to be on its way to Chad to offload a large cache of arms. Sheriff said in a statement made available to Journalists in Maiduguri that the report was sponsored by his political enemies that are looking for ways of dragging him into the mud to gain political edge in the fight for the soul of Borno state. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/sheriff-washes-hands-off-detained-plane/196159/ |

This came just as the France’s ambassador to Nigeria also said that Nigerian federal and airport authorities, being satisfied with the documents and the genuine character of the flight, have announced that the plane will be authorised to pursue its flight to N’Djamena The issue has become a political issue for opponents of President Goodluck Jonathan, who has been accused of not doing enough to stop the Islamist violence, which has left more than 13,000 dead since 2009. Russia’s embassy in Abuja also initially denied that the plane was theirs, although later confirmed that it was and that it was carrying French military equipment. AFP understands that the 18 Russian crew members and two French military personnel on board were not arrested but questioned about alleged discrepancies in the cargo manifest and flight plan. France’s ambassador to Nigeria, Jacques Champagne de Labriolle, said the commercial charter, run by Russian firm 224 Flight Unit, was carrying two French Army Gazelle light helicopters. Spare parts and maintenance items were also being transported on the flight from Bangui, in the Central African Republic, to Chad’s capital, N’Djamena. The hardware was being transferred as France winds down its military operations in the CAR and reinforces its anti-Islamist regional operation, codenamed Barkhane, in Chad. The Antonov 124, which had Nigerian diplomatic clearance, diverted to Kano 710 kilometres (441 miles) due west because of heavy air traffic in the Chadian capital, said Champagne deI mean, Labriolle. Checks were made because of the aircraft’s nationality and the nature of the cargo and the French Embassy in Abuja supplied information, he said in an emailed statement. “The Nigerian federal and airport authorities, being satisfied with the documents and the genuine character of the flight, have announced that the plane will be authorised to pursue its flight to N’Djamena,” he added. “Contrary to some press reports, there was absolutely no weapon and no ammunition on board the aircraft.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/12/nigeria-releases-russian-cargo-plane-impounded-kano/ |
Abuamam:I think in passed ten years, there has been improvement in religious tolerance. But you see, Islam has a loy to do to reedem their image more especially now in the wake of insurgency in Nigeria. A whole lot have changed in my area in Southern part of Nigeria specifically Port Harcourt. Women who are moslem wearing their hijab and more mosque along the streets. I am not a moslem nor a christian, but I know that both Islam and Christianity came from thesame root. A lot has changed maybe due social media. Is very popular if you buy a mobile device in Lagos for the guys to install a copy of the Holy Quran and the Holy Bible for you. Something unthinkable before. |
If subsidy was removed, we would have been enjoying the drop in oil prices. But the issue is that, when the government go ahead with that plan, Lagosians will "occupy Ojota for six months ". You cannot eat your cake and have it. |
From 1999 to this present day, Nigeria have learnt from their mistakes. I remember early in our democratic journey, snatching of ballot boxes during election was a norm in most states. In the National Assembly, there was a time a senate president ran away with the mace, the symbol of legislative democracy to his house. Agrieved Members produced another mace to do the legislative business. Today, a lot of positive changes have been witnessed. Electorates are no longer swayed by politician bogus electoral promises. The masses have started to demand more of the dividends of democracy. A whole lot of good things had happened in Nigeria in this journey of democracy. Now, in December 1983, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari overthrew a democratically elected government which eventually led to several years of military rule. This is certainly a very big odd against him. Imagine if Nigeria had consistently practiced democracy from 1983 till date!!! Nigeria would have been a world power. For this reason, Gen, Mohamadu Buhari will never rule this nation as democratic president in Nigeria. The Law of Karma would not permit it. Ask OBJ about this very important law. |

Nigeria politicians lack idealogy. If a politician have a party idealogy need not move to another political party if he fails to realize his goals. This shows that most politicians are there in politics for their own selfish interest. It will take a long journey in our democracy for leaders to emerge solely for leadership purpose. This can only be possible if there is no more oil money to share. |

asalimpo:Which truth? You see, there can never be a Universal Truth anywhere in the world. This is why God created several paths. What you love maybe harmful to me. Even in your opinion, if only one religion should exist, maybe Christainity for instance and everybody being a member, there will still be problem. For example, Questions such as which of the Christian sects will God approve? So we might just rule out some churches out e.g with due respect, SDA, my pre-Eck church, Olumba Olumba, Cele, maybe Christ Embassey cos they are too worldly. It will remain Deeper Life, Assemblies of God, RCCG, etc. So you see the vanity in understanding the concept of truth? ECKANKAR teaches love as the only thing that can take Soul back to God. Love and only love is the key. |
asalimpo:Well, I am sincerely happy to be a member of Eckankar, and I believe you are happy being a Christian too. In both ways we are winners, I honestly wish you well on your journey, and thank you very much. |
asalimpo:So you feel any religion that is not Christainity is false? Well, that is your opinion. Maybe in a distant future, you will understand why God created people differently, and created many paths to Itself. But for now, keep enjoying yourself in your state of ignorance. |
Barywhyte:Eckankar maybe a New Age religion, yes, so was the major religions of this world few hundreds years ago. Before Christainity and Islam there had been extinct religions of the world. You see, religions will come and go, but the true you, a divine child of God, Soul, lives forever. It is man, that bring forth religion and not the other way. Of a truth, no religion will last anything more than a four thousand years. |
thecommunist:OK, I wish you well, and thank most sincerely. |
thecommunist:I thoght you will understand the simple explanation of Eckankar being a RELIGION. It is like asking a moslem that "Did you believe in Jesus Christ,? that he died to save you? ". It makes no sense. What is he going to do with Prophet Mohammed(saw)? |
thecommunist: |
thecommunist:The answer is a capital "NO ". Just as Jesus Christ is not for Islam, Hinduism, Judaism so it is with Eckankar my dear. If you believe Jesus Christ came to die and wash away your sins, that is good for you. Eckankar is a religion on its own and not a part of Christainity. |
lastchild:You see, your case is very common in this part of the world, by this I mean, South-East, and South-South. To say the least, I have also experienced it. However, your experience explain the reality of Karma and Reincarnation, a popular African Traditional relious belief. So you see, this is why I said one who is versed with scriptures and who have not experienced it can offer very little help. This is why I recommend that always find one who had experienced it. The rest? well, take them with a "pinch of salt ". |
lastchild:Eckankar is a religion of the Light and Sound of God. We have our spiritual leader, Harold Klemp. He is the Mahanta, The Living ECK Master, given respect to but not worshiped. He teaches members of Eckankar the sacred name of God HU in most world-wide seminars. One is coming in Port Harcourt next weekend. Highly spiritual talks, questions and answers will be given. |
lastchild: |
lastchild:My dear, no need to explain any further. It takes one who have experienced truth to know what is truth. If you have experienced a thing, then you actually know it. Unto the experiencer, "Perhaps, the truth shall set you free " is most appropriate here. No amount of explanation that you will give to one who is only versed in a holy book that will be satisfactory, the reason is very simple:They lack the element of experience, which is more important than the knowledge of a holy book. |
stardragon:You are truely funny. You are not a member of Eckankar, you do not know their doctrines, and beliefs, yet you are telling a member to do a research.!!! In case you do not know, let me tell you a bit about Eckankar. Its established in 1965 by Paul Twitchel. We have many ECKANKAR Centers and temples around the world. Some of our beliefs among many include karma and reincarnation. We also believe that you are soul, a divine child of a loving God. In Nigeria, Eckankar is registered in the Coporate Affairs Commission as the third religion, others being Christainity and Islam, and we have our own copy of the holy book The Shariyat-Ki-Sugmad in the libraries of both houses of the National Assembly. So be properly guided on things you do not know so that you will not expose your level of ignorance. Please nairalanders, I sincerely appologise for appearing as if I am derailing the thread. Sometimes it is good to let people know that they are ignorant of something so people do not get the wrong message. Thanks |
stardragon:What more can I say "ignorance to some is bliss " I wish you well. |
atlwireles:I think you are right. I am thinking in similar trend too. Corruption, I think in my own view is more of mental attitude. Development with time may shelve corruption lower. |
lanxlot:Fom the time of David to the time of Jesus how many years was that? People lived hundreds of years then. Some of these beings can immortalise their physical body. |
lanxlot:He was in the time of King David and lived several hundreds of years upto the time of Christ. Am not a good bible student but somewhere in 1 Kings 1:39. Jesus met him at the age of 16yrs and studied under him. NOTE: Nothing was written about Jesus from age 13yrs until at the age of 33yrs when his mission was given him." |
Barywhyte:Is indeed a pity if you consider ECKANKAR a demon. Well, that is African poor mentality on religion. To you "any religious path outside Christainity is demon ". When @lastchild outlined his experiences, some people doubt him because of his inability to back his experiences with Bible Quotes. I am a member of Eckankar and will never refer to any religious path as demonic. "Ignorance to some is bliss " |
He was a spiritual being at that time. They usually come teach and inspire their devotees, raising their consciousness in the process. In the time of Christ there was Zadok. This ancient ones are the spiritual masters who teach these people about their mission on earth. |
chamboy:I think poor African mentality is killing us. I think Christians should endeavour to read the Bible rather than using it as pillow. |
soldierdollar:I think poor African mentality is killing us. I think Christians should endeavour to read the Bible rather than using it as pillow. |
Somehow I feel the US wants Nigeria to fail. And moreso, Nigeria not endorsing gay marriage maybe one the reasons. My opinion though. |
