7. The Layers Of The Atmosphere One fact about the universe revealed in the verses of the Qur'an is that the sky is made up of seven layers. "It is He Who created everything on the earth for you and then directed His attention up to heaven and arranged it into seven regular heavens. He has knowledge of all things." (The Qur'an, 2:29) "Then He turned to heaven when it was smoke. In two days He determined them as seven heavens and revealed, in every heaven, its own mandate." (The Qur'an, 41:12) The word "heavens", which appears in many verses in the Qur'an, is used to refer to the sky above the Earth, as well as the entire universe. Given this meaning of the word, it is seen that the Earth's sky, or the atmosphere, is made up of seven layers.

6. The Protected Roof The atmosphere only lets rays required for life reach the Earth. Ultraviolet rays, for example, make it to the world only partially. This is the most appropriate range to allow plants to make photosynthesis and eventually for all living things to survive. In the Qur'an, God calls our attention to a very interesting attribute of the sky: "We made the sky a preserved and protected roof yet still they turn away from Our Signs.." (The Qur'an, 21:32) This attribute of the sky has been proved by scientific research carried out in the 20th century. The atmosphere surrounding the earth serves crucial functions for the continuity of life. While destroying many meteors big and small as they approach the earth, it prevents them from falling to earth and harming living things. In addition, the atmosphere filters the light rays coming from space that are harmful to living things. Interestingly, the atmosphere lets only harmless and useful rays- visible light, near ultraviolet light, and radio waves pass through. All of this radiation is vital for life. Near ultraviolet rays, which are only partially let in by the atmosphere, are very important for the photosynthesis of plants and for the survival of all living beings. The majority of the intense ultraviolet rays emitted from the sun are filtered out by the ozone layer of the atmosphere and only a limited-and essential-part of the ultraviolet spectrum reaches the Earth. The protective function of the atmosphere does not end here. The atmosphere also protects the earth from the freezing cold of the space, which is about minus 270° C. |

5 Contd. The Sex Of The Baby Until fairly recently, it was thought that a baby's sex was determined by the mother's cells. Or at least, it was believed that the sex was determined by the male and female cells together. But we are given different information in the Qur'an, where it is stated that masculinity or femininity is created out of "a drop of sperm which has been ejected". "He has created both sexes, male and female from a drop of semen which has been ejected." (The Qur'an, 53:45-46) In the Qur'an, it is said that masculinity or femininity are created out of "a drop of semen which has been ejected". However, until fairly recently, it was believed that a baby's sex was determined by the mother's cells. Science only discovered this information given in the Qur'an in the 20th century. This and many other similar details about the creation of man were stated in the Qur'an centuries ago. The developing disciplines of genetics and molecular biology have scientifically validated the accuracy of this information given by the Qur'an. It is now understood that sex is determined by the sperm cells from the male, and that the female has no role in this process. The Y chromosome carries characteristics of masculinity, while the X chromosome carries those of femininity. In the mother's egg, there is only the X chromosome, which determines female characteristics. In the semen from the father, there are sperms that includes either X or Y chromosomes. Therefore, the sex of the baby depends on whether the sperm fertilising the egg contains an X or Y chromosome. In other words, as stated in the verse, the factor determining the sex of the baby is the semen, which comes from the father. This knowledge, which could not have been known at the time when the Qur'an was revealed, is evidence to the fact that the Qur'an is the word of God. Three Stages Of The Baby In The Womb In the Qur'an, it is related that man is created in a three-stage process in the mother's womb. "... He creates you stage by stage in your mothers' wombs in a threefold darkness. That is God, your Lord. Sovereignty is His. There is no god but Him. So what has made you deviate?" (The Qur'an, 39:6) As will be understood, it is pointed out in this verse that a human being is created in the mother's womb in three distinct stages. Indeed, modern biology has revealed that the baby's embryological development takes place in three distinct regions in the mother's womb. Today, in all the embryology textbooks studied in faculties of medicine, this subject is taken as an element of basic knowledge. For instance in Basic Human Embryology , a fundamental reference text in the field of embryology, this fact is stated as follows: "The life in the uterus has three stages: pre-embryonic; first two and a half weeks, embryonic; until the end of the eight week, and fetal; ftom the eight week to labor. |
Islam for Muslims / Re: Scientific Miracles Of The Quran by Saksreal(f): 12:24pm On Apr 02, 2013 |
5. THE BIRTH OF A HUMAN BEING Many diverse subjects are mentioned in the Qur'an in the course of inviting people to believe. Sometimes the heavens, sometimes animals, andsometimes plants are shown as evidence to man by God. In many of the verses, people are called upon to turn their attention to their own creation. They are often reminded how man came into the world, which stages he has passed through, and what his essence is: "It is We Who have created you. Why, then, do you not accept the truth? Have you ever considered that (seed) which you emit? Is it you who create it? Or are We the Creator?" (The Qur'an, 56:57-59) The creation of man, and the miraculous aspect of this, is stressed in many other verses. Some items of information within these verses are so detailed that it is impossible for anyone living in the 7th century to have known them. Some of these are as follows: 1. Man is not created from the entire semen, but only a very small portion of it (sperm). 2. It is the male that determines the sex of the baby. 3. The human embryo adheres to the mother's uterus like a leech. 4. The embryo develops in three dark regions in the uterus. People living when the Qur'an was revealed, to be sure, knew that the basic substance of birth was related to the semen of the male emitted during sexual intercourse. And the fact that the baby was born after a nine-month period was obviously an observable event not calling for any further investigation. However, the items of information just quoted were far above the level of learning of the people living at that time. These were verified by 20th century science. Now, let us go over them one by one. A Drop of Semen During sexual intercourse, 250 million sperms are emitted from the male at a time. The sperms undertake an arduous journey in the mother's body until they make it to the ovum. Only a thousand out of 250 million sperms succeed in reaching the ovum. At the end of this five-minute race, the ovum, half the size of a grain of salt, will let only one of the sperms in. That is, the essence of man is not the whole semen, but only a small part of it. This is explained in the Qur'an: "Does man reckon he will be left uncontrolled (without purpose)? Was he not once a drop of ejected semen?" (The Qur'an, 75:36-37) As we have seen, the Qur'an informs us that man is made not from the entire semen, but only a small part of it. That the particular emphasis in this statement announces a fact only discovered by modern science is evidence that the statement is divine in origin. In the picture below, we see semen ejected into the uterus. Only very few sperms out of 250 million sperms emitted from the male can make it to the ovum. The sperm that will fertilise the egg is the only one out of a thousand sperms that have managed to survive. The fact that man is made not from the entire semen, but only a small part of it, is related in the Qur'an with the expression, "a drop of ejected semen".

3. THE SEAS NOT MINGLING WITH ONE ANOTHER One of the properties of seas that has only recently been discovered is related in a verse of the Qur'an as follows: "He has let loose the two seas, converging together, with a barrier between them they do not break through." (The Qur'an, 55:19-20) This property of the seas, that they come together yet do not mingle with one another at all, has only very recently been discovered by oceanographers. Because of the physical force called "surface tension", the waters of neighboring seas do not mix. Caused by the difference in the density of their waters, surface tension prevents them from mingling with one another, just as if a thin wall were between them. The interesting side to this is that during a period when people had no knowledge of physics, surface tension, or oceanography; this was revealed in the Qur'an. 4. THE IDENTITY IN THE FINGERPRINT While it is stated in the Qur'an that it is easy for God to bring man back to life after death, peoples' fingerprints are particularly emphasized: "Yes, We are able to put together in perfect order the very tips of his fingers." (The Qur'an, 75:3-4) Everyone, including identical twins, has a unique fingerprint. In other words, people's identities are coded at their fingertips. This coding system may also be compared to the barcode system that is used today. The emphasis on fingerprints has a very special meaning. This is because everyone's fingerprint is unique to himself. Every person who is alive or who has ever lived in this world has a set of unique fingerprints. That is why fingerprints are accepted as a very important proof of identity, exclusive to their owner, and are used for this purpose around the world. But what is important is that this feature of fingerprints was only discovered in the late 19th century. Before then, people regarded fingerprints as ordinary curves without any specific importance or meaning. However in the Qur'an, God points to the fingertips, which did not attract anyone's attention at that time, and calls our attention to their importance-an importance that was only finally understood in our days

Fourteen centuries ago, God sent down the Qur'an to mankind as a book of guidance. He called upon people to be guided to the truth by adhering to this book. From the day of its revelation to the day of judgement, this last divine book will remain the sole guide for humanity. The matchless style of the Qur'an and the superior wisdom in it are definite evidence that it is the word of God. In addition, the Qur'an has many miraculous attributes proving that it is a revelation from God. One of these attributes is the fact that a number of scientific truths that we have only been able to uncover by the technology of the 20th century were stated in the Qur'an 1,400 years ago. Of course the Qur'an is not a book of science. However, many scientific facts that are expressed in an extremely concise and profound manner in its verses have only been discovered by the technology of the 20th century. These facts could not have been known at the time of the Quran's revelation, and this is still more proof that the Qur'an is the word of God. 1. EXPANSION OF THE UNIVERSE In the Quran, which was revealed 14 centuries ago at a time when the science of astronomy was still primitive, the expansion of the universe was described like this: "And it is We who have constructed the heaven with might, and verily, it is We who are steadily expanding it." (The Quran, 51:47) The word "heaven", as stated in this verse, is used in various places in the Quran with the meaning of space and universe. Here again, the word is used with this meaning. In other words, in the Qur'an it is revealed that the universe "expands". And this is the very conclusion that science has reached today. Until the dawn of the 20th century, the only view prevailing in the world of science was that "the universe has a constant nature and it has existed since infinite time". The research, observations, and calculations carried out by means of modern technology, however, have revealed that the universe in fact had a beginning, and that it constantly " expands". At the beginning of the 20th century, the Russian physicist Alexander Friedmann and the Belgian cosmologist Georges Lemaitre theoretically calculated that the universe is in constant motion and that it is expanding . This fact was proved also by observational data in 1929. While observing the sky with a telescope, Edwin Hubble, the American astronomer, discovered that the stars and galaxies were constantly moving away from each other. A universe where everything constantly moves away from everything else implied a constantly expanding universe. The observations carried out in the following years verified that the universe is currently expanding. 2. ORBITS While referring to the Sun and the Moon in the Qur'an, it is emphasized that each moves in a definite orbit. "It is He Who created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. They swim along, each in an orbit. " (The Quran, 21:33) It is mentioned in another verse, too, that the Sun is not static but moves in a definite orbit: "And the sun runs to its resting place. That is the decree of the Almighty, the All-Knowing. " (The Qur'an, 37:38) These facts communicated in the Qur'an have been discovered by astronomical observations in our age. According to the calculations of experts on astronomy, the Sun is traveling at the enormous speed of 720,000 kilometers an hour in the direction of the star Vega in a particular orbit called the Solar Apex. This means that the sun travels roughly 17,280,000 kilometers a day. Along with the Sun, and all planets and satellites within the gravitational system of the Sun also travel the same distance. In addition, all the stars in the universe are in a similar planned motion. That the entire universe is full of paths and orbits such as this one, is written in 1 Like

Islam for Muslims / Re: Arabic, A Superior Language??? by Saksreal(f): 11:05am On Feb 26, 2013 |
Understanding the arabic Language does not mean one understands the Quran. The majority of the people assume that if one understands the Arabic language, it means he is capable of understanding the Qur'an. They are also quick to dismiss anyone who has a point to make about the Quran's verses, if they are not an Arab or do not speak Arabic. A consistent feature of these sorts of people is that they themselves know little about the Qur'an because they never attempt to research the Qur'an directly. This is because of an intentionally induced inferiority complex of not knowing Arabic which gives them the excuses they need to stay distant from the Qur'an, as well as due to some other vain excuses. They never attempt to understand the verses of the Qur'an themselves. All of their views on the Qur'an are formed entirely by following other people and texts written by those whose trust they assume. They have only read the Qur'an's verses in text books in the context created by their trusted writers, or otherwise read the Arabic verses in ritualistic recitation, or in prayer without understanding them. Sometimes, he feels he has done enough by reading the translation of the few verses he recites frequently in prayer. As stated above, their excuse is that the Qur’an is not in their language and only an Arab or an Arabic speaker can understand the verses. The truth is however far from their mistaken beliefs. A believer can understand the Qur'an and live by it even while possessing little or no Arabic knowledge. History is witness to many people who are proficient in the Arabic language, yet made very twisted and perverted interpretations of the Qur'an, all while they are accepted to be well skilled by the majority. The majority being the group we have identified above. These interpreters of the Qur'an consider themselves Muslims, yet made countless erroneous interpretations - even while knowing Arabic. This begs the question, does knowing Arabic mean one can understand the Qur’an? The disbelievers of Makkah were expert in the language of the Qur'an, but they did not understand many of the concepts and similitudes of the Qur'an. They thus rejected it as being words of a madman. What one needs to comprehend is that understanding the Qur'an means to understand correctly what is being told in the verses, the concepts, lessons, signs, admonitions metaphors and imagery. All of these aspects of the Qur'an hold true regardless of the language used. When one does not understand the Qur'an, that is, makes erroneous interpretations, he is incapable of understanding these lessons, admonitions and true purposes of the verses. One may even be in possession of great Arabic skills, yet be incapable of understanding the verses due to his or her lack of comprehension of what is being told in the verses. We can compare this with the following scenario. Imagine you are explaining a concept to someone in perfect English. The person you are explaining to can also understand English perfectly. However, due to a lack of comprehension on their part, that person fails to understand what you are explaining to them despite your perfect explanations in English and their ability to understand the language. Likewise, the same can be said about the Qur'an. Even an expert Arabic speaker may well be incapable of understanding and interpreting the verses correctly as a direct result of that missing comprehension. This comprehension is given by Allah to whoever He pleases. A verse identifies this: "...But the disbelievers say, 'what does Allah mean by such a similitude?' Through it, Allah misguides many and He also guides many. But He misguides only the rebels." (Qur'an 2:26) The comprehension we have mentioned is actually a gift from Allah to His sincere believers only. A believer who does not know Arabic may be endowed with this ability to understand the Qur'an. When the verses of the Qur'an are explained to him by another true believer in his language, he grasps them correctly, even though he does not know Arabic. And it is probable that a person fluent in Arabic could not understand the same verses correctly even in his own language. Skill in the Arabic language did not afford him the true interpretations of Allah’s verses, and so he remained bereft of Allah’s guidance. Another person who is a more sincere believer could understand the verses, even though he did not speak the language of the Qur'an. Allah explains this 'veiling of perception' in a verse: "When you recite the Qur'an, we place an invisible barrier between you and those who do not believe in the life to come. We have put covers on their hearts that prevents them from understanding it, and heaviness in their ears." (Qur'an 17:45-46) That is why a true believer can live by the Qur'an without knowing Arabic. It is true that a non-Arabic speaking believer will need to overcome the obstacle of language, but with his sincerity and motivation, he overcomes them without difficulty. Today, there are many translations of the Qur'an available in almost any language. It is possible to draw a fairly accurate understanding of the Qur'an by studying different translations. In conclusion, people who speak Arabic do not automatically posses the comprehension to understand the meanings of the Verses of the Qur’an. The comprehension is given by Allah to whom He wills regardless of ones language. All people who consider themselves Muslim must not hide behind excuses from gaining a first- hand understanding of the Book revealed by Allah, which is a guide, mercy and cure for them if they only make the effort to understand it themselves. Allah has held everyone responsible for adhering to the Qur'an, regardless of their spoken languages. Reference; www.Quranicpath.com |
Islam for Muslims / Arabic, A Superior Language??? by Saksreal(f): 10:55am On Feb 26, 2013 |
I followed Justaqad's thread, www.nairaland.com/1184712/losing-identity-arabs .Even without making a comment, i totally agree with him. Just yesternite, i had a discussion with a friend concerning the use of arabic by Nigerian muslims. I told him i dropped out of quranic school simply because i felt it was a waste of time. Nigerian arabic schools only teach arabic and not the understanding of the holy Quran. I also asked, why do muslims pray in Arabic? and why do most preachers preach in arabic. His reply: Arabic is the language of the holy Quran and thereafter should be used for everything in Islam. He supported his claim with a simple quranic verse, Quran 12:2 " We have sent it down as an arabic Quran so that you people may understand/ use reason". Does this verse indicate superiority of the arabic language?? Did a little reseach. The Quran is sent as a guidance to mankind. The language of scriptures as and when they are sent down to different generation and region is in the language of the messenger and the people who are immediately around him. Quran 14:4, "We have not sent any messenger except with the language if his people so he can make things clear to them. Allah misguides anyone he wills and guides anyone he wills. He is the almighty, the all wise. Thus for those caught in the disbelief at the prophet's time, it was a great blessing that Allah sent a magnificient scripture in their language which they could understand and use their reasoning over. Quran 65:11, "A messenger, reciting Allah's clear verses to you to bring those who believe out of the darkness into the light. Whoever believes in Allah and acts righteously , we will admit him into gardens". The verses on sending the Quran should be perceived in this light. Had the quran been in a foreign language, it would not be possible for the speakers of the language who received it or the messenger, to take its message to the world. In other words, although the Quranic message is for the world, this verse is more specifically addressed to those who understood the language (..."so that you may understand" ) ...emphasising on appreciating what would have happened had it been in a language other than their tongue. This is proved in the following verse; "So We have revealed an Arabic Quran to you, in order that you may warn the capital city and all who live nearby..." (Qur'an 42:7) "We have made the Qur'an easy in your language so that they may take heed it." (Qur'an 44:58) "If We had made it a foreign Quran, they would have said, ‘If only its verses were clear! What? Foreign speech to an Arab?’ Say, ‘It is guidance and healing for those who have faith, but the ears of the disbelievers are heavy, they are blind to it, it is as if they are being called from a distant place.’ (Qur'an 41:44) So when Allah says: "We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur'an so you people may understand / reason" (Qur'an 12:2) We can clearly see it is in reference to the above verses - to the blessing that Allah revealed clear wisdom and guidance in a language they can understand and be able to reason over (Arabic). Therefore, Verse 12:2 (and 43:3) are not classing the Arabic language as being linguistically superior to other languages of the world, nor do they mean to indicate any intrinsic linguistic qualities of the Arabic language over others as being the motivational factor in its choice. Yet, it is wrongly taught in great many literature that the Arabic language has been divinely shown or praised in the Qur'an for its qualities - which is followed on by other exaggerated claims like it being the language of Paradise etc. A misunderstanding of 41:44 "If We had made it a foreign Quran, they would have said, ‘If only its verses were clear! What? Foreign speech to an Arab?’ Say, ‘It is guidance and healing for those who have faith, but the ears of the disbelievers are heavy, they are blind to it, it is as if they are being called from a distant place.’ (Qur'an 41:44) This verse is in reference to the immediate people who heard the Qur'an, describing the scenario had they heard the Qur'an in a foreign language. Some people assume it is in reference to all people, thus they think the portion: "...they would have said, ‘If only its verses were clear (literally 'detailed / explained ْﺖَﻠِّﺼُﻓ)!' ...is an exclamation from all people of all languages. In other words, they are saying, if the Qur'an was non-Arabic, then a speaker of that language reading the Qur'an in his language would complain that the Qur'an was not detailed enough because it was not in the Arabic language. This is a highly unfeasible and unrealistic understanding because why would a man reading the Qur'an in his language make such a claim? Consider a parallel scenario where you are reading a very enjoyable book in English, what are the chances of you wanting the book in, say, Chinese, given: 1) You are reading, enjoying and understanding an eloquent Book. 2) Nothing is lacking in this language to not be able to describe any ideas. 3) You have no knowledge of the foreign language to even compare (assuming you do not speak Chinese!) No doubt, such an explanation is completely irrational. Their intention behind this understanding is to explain 12:2 and 43:3 as references to Arabic as a linguistically superior language, which is as we have seen, something the verse is not trying to indicate. |

"And i will pray the Father, and he shall give you Another comforter, that he may abide with you forever". Here is the Quranic verse you asked for. Quran 61:6 " And remember, Jesus, the son of Mary said, O children of Israel, I am the messenger of Allah sent to you, confirming the law which came before me and giving glad tidings of a messenger to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmed". Relate this with my previous post |

pointblank 321: Looking at Deuteronomy 18:18 once again. It said a prophet like Moses from among their brothers. Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) is from among the bethren of Moses(Pbuh). Arabs are bethren of jews. Only Muhammad falls in this category. Who is the comforter? John 16:7, "Nevertheless i tell you the truth; it is expedient for you that i go away; for if i go not away, the comforter will not come unto you; but if i depart, I will send him unto you". Ahmed or Muhammad meaning "the one who praises" or "the praised one" is almost a translation of the greek word Pericletos. In the Gospel of jOhn 14:16, 15:26, 16:7.The word "Comforter" is used in the English translation for the greek word Paracletos which means advocate or a king friend rather than a comforter. *Paracletos is the warped reading of Periclytos*. Jesus actually prophesised Ahmed by name. Even the greek word "Paraclete" refers to the prophet who is a mercy for all creatures. You said the Comforter refers to the Holy Spirit. You fail to realise that the prophecy stated clearly that only if Jesus(pbuh) departs will the comforter come. The bible states that the hOly spirit was already present on earth before and during the time of Jesus(pbuh), in the womb of Elizabeth and again when Jesus(pbuh) was being baptised etc. Hence this prophecy refers to none other than the prophet Muhammad(Pbuh). John 16:12-14 " i have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Albeit when he, the spirit of Truth IS TO COME, he will guide you unto all truth; for he shall not speak of himself but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak; And he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me" The spirit of truth refers to none other than Prophet Muhammad(Pbuh). |

pointblank 321:Sorry for the other time. Looking at the bible, they have been prophesised. Dueteronomy 18:15 " The lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers, it is him you shall listen to" Deuteronomy 18:18 " I will raise up for them a.prophet like you from their brothers. And i will put my words in his mouth and he shall speak to them all that i command him" ....Remember this was God talking to Moses Isiah 29:12 " And when they give the book to one who cannot read saying, 'Read this', he says, 'I cannot read'. ... In the Quran, when Angel Gabriel commanded Muhammad(pbuh) by saying Iqra-Read, he replied,'I am not Learned. These are some of the prophecies from the bible of Prophet Muhammad's coming. None of the prophet in the bible falls under this since they were descendants of Isaac while Muhammad(Pbuh) is from their brothers, a descendant of Ishmael. Check the book of John, he was called the Spirit of Truth while Jesus also called him " The Comforter" 1 Like |
