Nigeria sprinter Divine Oduduru has been placed on a six-year ban after he was found guilty by the World Athletics Disciplinary Tribunal set up to investigate allegations of two potential Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs) by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).

The tribunal’s ruling which was exclusively obtained by Bold Sports, showed that Oduduru was found guilty of possession (Rule 2.6 of the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules; ADR) and/or use or attempted use of multiple Prohibited Substances (Rule 2.2 ADR).

Oduduru, in the judgement dated September 18, which was signed by Anna Bordiugova, was linked with fellow Nigerian Blessing Okagbare who was banned for 11 years for use of prohibited substance.

While Oduduru didn’t test positive for any banned substance, he was alleged to have been implicated in a WhatsApp message between Okagbare and her supplier, Eric Lira, where Okagbare mentioned “Divine” and “we” while discussing.

According to the panel, the following conversation between Okagbare and Lira took place:

BO: Good morning Eric. Any update on the stuff I asked for?

EL: Good morning love… the tb 500 with you igf1 and gonatropina is a good combination to

increase strength and oxygen levels

EL: That’s also with hgh and epo

BO: Cool. So, [how] much of each do me and divine need?

EL: I have to review the cycle to see how much you need

BO: Please eric. The ea[r]lier the better

A complaint signed by FBI Special Agent Serkes further revealed that an unnamed individual who Oduduru had asked to help move some of his belongings in his Florida apartement while away for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on July 12, 2021, reported that he found some prohibited substances, same as linked with Okagbare.

The FBI agent’s complaint submitted to the tribunal was:

“a. On or about July 12 and 13, 2021, Individual-1, at the request of Athlete-2, who was then outside of the United States, entered a residence in the vicinity of Jacksonville, Florida (the “Residence”), where Athlete-2 had recently resided. Individual-1 intended to gather Athlete2’s belongings and to transfer those belongings to a near-by storage facility. At the time that Individual-1 entered the Residence, Athlete-1 was abroad, training for the then-upcoming Tokyo Olympics.

b. Inside the residence, Individual-1 found and photographed packages and vials that appeared to be various performance enhancing drugs, including drugs on the Prohibited List described above. Individual-1 subsequently provided those photographs to the FBI. For example:

(i) Individual-1 provided photographs of a United States Postal Service parcel from “Eric Lira/ [redacted street address] / El Paso, TX” (the “El Paso Address”) with a particular telephone number for Lira (the “Lira Number”). The same parcel was addressed to Athlete-1 at an address other than the address of the Residence.

(ii) Individual-1 also provided photographs of the content of that parcel, which was a single box containing a drug appearing to have been manufactured by a Mexico-based pharmaceutical company. The box was labeled: “Xerendip® Somatropina,” and, in Spanish, “injectable.” From my review of publicly available sources of information regarding the content and effect of various drugs, I have learned that somatropin (or, in Spanish, “somatropina”) is a human growth hormone, which, as noted above, is among the prohibited substances on the Prohibited List.

(Subsequent to July 13, 2021, I obtained the same box of Xerendip from the storage locker into which Individual-1 moved this drug and other items, having obtained consent to enter the storage facility. Upon inspection of the box itself, I have noted that the box indicates, in Spanish, that the drug is to be administered only as prescribed by a physician (“Dosis: Lo que el médico señale.”). I also received from the same storage locker a used box of a Mexico-manufactured, injectable erythropoietin drug, Alveritin. The box, which originally contained six vials of that substance, was found containing only one remaining vial. As described in more detail below, both the photographs of these categories of drugs provided by Individual-1 and the drugs that I obtained subsequent to July 13, 2021, are drugs of the same categories discussed in the course of communications between Eric Lira, the defendant, and Athlete-1).

(iii) Individual-1 also provided a photograph of a small, clear, sealable bag containing three vials of white powder. The bag was labeled “IGF [illegible] R3.” From my experience in this case and from my conversations with other FBI agents working on separate investigations of performance enhancing substances, I know that “IGF” is an abbreviation for “insulin growth factor.” Among the substances on the Prohibited List is “Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1) and its analogues. (iv) Individual-1 further provided a photograph of a box of 100 hypodermic needles, insulin injection needles, and various other drugs including A) a separate box of somatropin, also from what appears to have been a Mexico- or Central American pharmaceutical company, bearing the brand name “Humatrope;” and B) a box labeled as containing a “prefilled syringe” holding 5 ml of “recombinant human erythropoistin injection.” This final drug’s box included a symbol representing that it is a prescription drug, i.e., “Rx.””

Oduduru who was represented by his lawyer, Chinedu Udora, however denied having knowledge of the prohibited substances reportedly found in his house. According to him, he had no possession of any of such in his appartement when he left for Europe to prepare for the Olympics on July 3, 2021.

He also said the person he asked to move his belongings from his appartement never mentioned finding any prohibited substance in his apartment even though they maintained phone communications. He also denied being the one mentioned in the WhatsApp chats between Okagbare and Lira, saying he was unaware of that any conversation of such took place.

Oduduru further held that through the period the conversation between Okagbare and Lira held in 2019 to 2021 when the substances were reportedly found in his apartment to February 2023 when he was provisionally suspended, he was tested numerous times and returned negative. He alleged a gang-up to implicate him.

The tribunal however dismissed his defense, finding him guilty of violating rules 2.6 and 2.2 of the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules. He was subsequently banned for six years from February 6, 2023.

The ruling read, “The Athlete has committed ADRVs under Rules 2.6 and 2.2 ADR. The violations shall be considered together as one single first violation.

“A period of Ineligibility of six (6) years is imposed by the Panel upon the Athlete commencing on the date of the Decision. The period of Provisional Suspension imposed on the Athlete from 9 February 2023 until the date of the decision shall be credited against the total period of Ineligibility.

“The Athlete’s results from 12 July 2021 until the date that the Provisional Suspension was imposed, on 9 February 2023, shall be disqualified with all resulting consequences including the forfeiture of any titles, awards, medals, points and prize and appearance money.”

He was also ordered to pay World Athletics $3,000 “as contribution towards the legal fees and other expenses incurred in connection with these proceedings”.

Politics / APC Moves Presidential Primaries To June 6-7 by sammietos(m): 9:21pm On May 27, 2022
The All Progressives Congress has moved its presidential primary election to June 6 and 7.

The party reached the decision after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) bowed to pressured by political parties to extend the dates for primary elections.

INEC in a statement on Friday, extended the dates for primaries by six days.

WesternPost had earlier exclusively reported that the party was planning on postponing the presidential primaries.

WesternPost learnt the postponement was one of the issues discussed during a meeting APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu; INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmud Yakubu; and Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha had with President Muhammadu Buhari.

The planned postponement was exemplified in the delay in the commencement of activities towards the APC convention is already causing apprehension in Abuja.

This was the second time APC was shifting the dates for the presidential primaries after initially moving it from the first scheduled date of May 31 and June 1.

Politics / APC Governors Meet Buhari, Reject Consensus, Seek Indirect Primaries by sammietos(m): 11:11pm On Apr 19, 2022
Governors elected on the platform of All Progressives Congress met with President Muhammadu Buhari earlier today ahead of the meeting of National Executive Committee meeting of the party slated for Wednesday in Abuja.

This is just as the National Working Committee of the party led by Senator Abdullahi Adamu also met today to prepare agenda for the NEC meeting that will be attended by all Governors, members of the National Assembly, former Governors, State Chairmen, and other relevant party stakeholders.

WesternPost gathered that the NWC has already adopted the indirect form of primaries for electing its presidential candidate and other flagbearers for various offices in the 2023 general elections.

The NWC decision was taken by the National Working Committee of the party at their meeting on Tuesday in Abuja.

A source within the NWC told WesternPost that they decided to go against the consensus arrangement that was used to pick the party leaders at the convention last month, asking all aspirants to test their popularity in the field.

There had been speculations that the party will adopt a consensus arrangement to choose its presidential candidate just like it did during last party convention where most party positions were filled through consensus.

Some of the presidential aspirants who are posturing as the anointed candidate of President Buhari have been canvassing for the use of consensus arrangement using their foot soldiers to push the agenda.

Politics / 10 Tinubu’s Political Associates Who Once Fell Out With Him, Later Reconciled 1 by sammietos(m): 12:20pm On Apr 18, 2022
Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, recently launched verbal attacks at his political benefactor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, over their support of different aspirants at the Osun All Progressives Congress, APC.

Western Post however reported that Aregbesola who has been Tinubu’s associate for over two decades before the disagreement is trying to retrace his steps and mend fences with his boss.

In this report, OKUNADE ADEKUNLE writes on ten political associates of Tinubu who had once erred but later returned to him for forgiveness

1. Otunba Femi Pedro

Pedro, a former banker, served as Lagos State deputy governor from 2003 till May 10 2007, when he was impeached by the House of Assembly for gross misconduct. Prior to his impeachment saga, Pedro enjoyed smooth and cordial relationship with his boss and benefactor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, whom he served under for four years.

The relationship between Tinubu and Pedro turned sour when the latter showed interest in succeeding his boss after 2007, which many analysts believed Tinubu was not comfortable with. At that time, Tinubu had begun to gravitate towards Babatunde Raji Fashola as the campaign season drew closer.

This angered Pedro who left the Action Congress, AC, to join the Labour Party, where he declared for the governorship seat December 13, 2006. On January 30, 2007, Pedro named a University lecturer, Oluranti Adebule, as his running mate for the April 19 elections. Pedro however lost at the general elections to Fashola.

Pedro again vied for the state’s number 1 seat in 2010, when with support and goodwill from the party’s hierarchy in Abuja, but lost the party’s ticket for the 2011 governorship election to Dr. Ade Dosunmu.

Reconciliation moves

After losing the 2007 and 2011 governorship elections, Pedro in 2013 initiated reconciliation moves to settle with his former boss and benefactor, Tinubu. It was also learnt that Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, played a key role in reconciling the duo as he publicly and privately encouraged the reconciliation moves after Tinubu had graced the wedding ceremony of Pedro’s son in 2012, which was the first time they had been publicly seen together since 2006.

In December 2013, Pedro was said to have held a secret meeting with Tinubu, the then Rivers State Governor and current Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and the former interim National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande, to finalise his move to APC. Within a matter of days, Pedro released a statement confirming his move to the APC and rejoining Tinubu’s political dynasty.

On December 31, 2015, the Lagos State House of Assembly invalidated Pedro’s 2007 impeachment by way of a resolution passed by the majority of its members so that he could enjoy all the paraphernalia of a deputy governor of the state.

2. Sen. Seye Ogunlewe
Ogunlewe was elected Senator on the platform of Alliance for Democracy (AD) in 1999, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, before defecting to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP ). At this time, Tinubu was governor of the state and they both had robust and friendly political relationship before the sudden feud. Ogunlewe later became the Minister of Works (July 2003 to March 2006) during the second term of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Ogunlewe/Tinubu feud

The failure of Tinubu to support the 2003 re-election bid of Ogunlewe and his strong ties with the then aggrieved Afenifere leaders were said to have caused the feud between the duo as Tinubu was rooting for the then Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Olorunnimbe Mamora, to replace Ogunlewe at the senate. This made Ogunlewe to defect to the PDP to actualise his second term bid but could not succeed as he lost to Mamora at the general elections.

While as works minister, Ogunlewe renewed his battle with Tinubu which also often led to clashes between agents of the Federal Ministry of Works and officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, over control of federal roads. The dispute between the duo was also said to have cost Ogunlewe’s son, Moyo (current Chairman of Kosofe LG) his dream to represent Kosofe constituency 1 at the Lagos State House of Assembly twice.

Reconciliation moves

The process of reconciliation between the duo was not publicly but privately as Ogunlewe was said to have met with Tinubu quietly after he could not resolve his dispute with his former political patron, Chief Bode George, the then Deputy National Chairman of the PDP.

3. Sen. Musiliu Obanikoro
Obanikoro served as commissioner for home affairs in 1999-2003 under the first administration of Bola Tinubu before being elected as Senator between 2003-2007. While serving as commissioner, Obanikoro played key political role in the Tinubu Dynasty and this earned him the senatorial ticket of the AD to represent Lagos Central. He was perceived to be the right-hand man of Tinubu and his point-man in Lagos Central not until political feud broke out between the duo over succession.

The Senator who had begun to show interest in the governorship race immediately he resumed the Senate, was said to have been building political structures across Lagos, a move Tinubu was reportedly not comfortable with because of his strong interest in Fashola. Although, Obanikoro after observing that he could not get the governorship ticket of the Action Congress (AC) quickly defected to the PDP to realise his dream. He was controversially handed the ticket of the PDP in 2007, but lost at the poll to Tinubu’s candidate.

Reconciliation moves

Obanikoro’s reconciliation moves were both secretly and publicly with funfair where he was openly handed over the flag of the APC by the then State Chairman, Chief Henry Ajomale, on November 2017.

Little wonder that Obanikoro – who openly cast aspersions on Tinubu and heavily deployed federal might during elections against the ruling APC in Lagos – could openly on the day of his return to the party in his speech say that “At this stage of my life, it is important for me to return to my original base and be part of the giant strides that has been achieved in Lagos State, which would not have been possible, but for the wisdom and sagacity of the architect of our modern democracy, my indefatigable Oga, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

“Politics is based and premised on ideologies and powered by interests. I am a progressive and my inalienable conviction about leadership is the need to identify with the yearnings of my people. I am a very proud son of Lagos and I will always do my best to support and fortify any efforts, social, economic or political directed at repositioning my home state for more development and prosperity.

“My political voyage started from this association and I am proud to have learnt under our great leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. The late Chief Obafemi Awolowo is the greatest politician of all time and I make bold to say that the greatest politician of our time is Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Today, with thousands of my followers, I rededicate myself to the progress and prosperity of Lagos.”

Ever since his return, Obanikoro has continued to enjoy the benefits of being a member of Tinubu’s political dynasty as his son was elected on the platform of the party in 2019 to represent Eti-Osa federal constituency.

4. Sen. Tokunbo Afikuyomi
Afikuyomi like Ogunlewe was elected into the Senate at the beginning of the fourth republic in 1999 to represent Lagos Central Senatorial District under the platform of Alliance for Democracy (AD) and also sought re-election and won in 2003. Afikuyomi who had strong political tie with Tinubu since the days of National Democractic Coalition (NADECO), played a key role in Tinubu’s exoneration during the Chicago State University certificate scandal that nearly consumed Tinubu in 2002 when Afikuyomi admitted that he mistakenly filled the INEC nomination form for Tinubu.

Things fell apart between the duo in 2007 when Afikuyomi expressed his intention to succeed Tinubu after the expiration of his tenure as governor. He actively campaigned across the wards and local governments for the governorship ticket and reached out to stakeholders in the AC with the believe that he would be handed the party ticket but Tinubu went for different choice.

This angered Afikuyomi and at the late hour defected to the All Nigerians Peoples Party (ANPP) to contest the governorship election in 2007. An interesting thing about his political move at that time, was his quick manoeuvre to the AC a day to the election in April and thereafter served as the party’s state agent at INEC.

Reconciliation moves

Like Ogunlewe, Afikuyomi secretly and quietly returned to the Tinubu political dynasty after serious negotiation for relevance in Fashola’s administration. Afikuyomi was later appointed Commissioner for Tourism and Intergovernmental Relations in the first term of Fashola, an appointment many analysts believed he negotiated for to step down from the governorship race at twilight of the general elections.

One can argue that Afikuyomi joined the league of Tinubu’s strong loyalists who betrayed him at a time they ought not to because of the strategic roles they played in the build-up to the enthronement of civil rule in 1999.

Since he had been forgiven by Tinubu, Afikuyomi has been appointed to supervise party activities including chairing the Lagos APC Local government Election Committee in 2017.

Currently, it was rumoured that he is contesting for APC National Vice Chairman (South).

5. Chief Mrs Oluremi Adiukwu
Adiukwu served as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs between 2003 and 2005 during the second term of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, becoming the first female ever to serve in that capacity. Before her appointment as commissioner and joining the AD, Adikwu had aspired to be Lagos governor in 2003 under the PDP.

In 2005, when Tinubu rejiged his cabinet, Adiukwu was moved to Ministry of Commerce and Industries before she ran into trouble with her boss because of her interest to succeed him at Alausa Round House.

As expected and being a grassroots politician from Oshodi/Isolo local government, Adikwu was able to mobilise strongly for the actualisation of her dream but could not outshine her boss who had anointed his then Chief of Staff, Fashola, to take over from him in 2007. She angrily left the AC to contest in Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) but lost to Fashola at the general elections and thereafter joined the PDP till 2018 when she returned to the APC and the Tinubu dynasty.

Reconciliation moves

One major move she made to reconcile with Tinubu was to lobby the then Governor of Osun state and current Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. A close source who was privy to her return to the APC, said that Aregbesola played a key role in her return to the Tinubu political family in 2018. The source further disclosed that Adiukwu had to convincingly assure Aregbesola of winning Oshodi/Isolo for the APC in the 2019 general elections, a promise she fulfilled because before then, the PDP won all general elections in the local government in 2015.

Like Obanikoro, Adiukwu was welcomed back to the Tinubu political family elegantly and with funfair at the APC state secretariat in Acme, Ikeja. In her speech on the day of her return to the APC, Adiukwu said her coming to APC was motivated by the development the party had brought to the state and the positive politics of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, national leader of the party.

Since then, Adiukwu had been exerting influence on the party politics of Oshodi/Isolo and playing key role in determining who gets what and how in Oshodi/Isolo APC.

Religion / Backlash Greets Sterling Bank’s ‘like Agege Bread, He Rose’ Easter Message by sammietos(m): 12:13pm On Apr 18, 2022
Sterling Banks Easter message to its customers has continued to receive backlash across social media over the bank’s comparison on the resurrection of Jesus with Agege bread.

In a message to its customers Sunday morning, Sterling Bank wrote “Like Agege Bread, He Rose”.

Agege bread, is a popular bread in Nigeria, known for its soft, stretchy and chewy texture.

People who have however commented, described the message from Sterling Bank as blasphemous.

“Imagine this blasphemous message from Sterling Bank to customers on Easter day which was retracted cos of outbursts. This is distasteful & an outright mockery of our risen Lord – Jesus Christ the saviour of the world. It is reprehensible and condemnable in every sense of the word,” Dr Amala Odita tweeted.

Dear @Sterling_Bankng, it is very insensitive to compare the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ to Agege Bread. You won’t dare this with Islam. Withdraw that message now and apologize,” @RokamoBet also tweeted.

@yourOracle also tweeted, “I’m not one of those overly religious peeps here but I think this Easter message from Sterling Bank is quite insensitive and should be deleted and an apology sent to those who care.”

What is this religious discrimination done by @Sterling_Bankng This is shameful. All Christians deserve a public unreserved Apology. What non-sense! Can you try this with Islam, without all your buildings razed down and sanction from the government,” @Dannyleads1 also tweeted.

An attempt by the bank to apologise for its actions also got further backlash.

“Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. We humbly celebrate His resurrection, the defeat of death and the hope of salvation,” the bank tweeted, accompanied with another image.

According to Nigerians who commented, the apology looked like a justification for the action.

“Seriously? Let him who has not sinned cast the first stone? And this is suppossed to be some kind of apology ? Who approves these things,” @Oyonyowa1 tweeted.

While @DavidObasa added, “Don’t you have controls around your Corporate Communications? Do messages get out to the public without checks? Is everyone in top management unable to understand the rippling effect of both your message and the ‘apology’ (which sounds more like a justification of wrongdoing)?”

“That line ‘Let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone’ wasn’t necessary. It made nonsense of your apology, @garcity also added.

Politics / Why Saraki Is Leading Consensus Arrangement In PDP – Spokesman by sammietos(m): 11:20am On Apr 18, 2022
The Campaign Organisation of Senator Bukola Saraki has given reasons why the former Senate President is leading the campaign for consensus Presidential candidate in Peoples Democratic Party.

Mr. Yusuf Olaniyonu, Media Adviser to Saraki in a press interview noted that the desire of his boss to see that PDP has a manageable field of contestants to save the party from potential post-primary acrimony is the main reason his boss is criss-crossing the country to sell his idea among Presidential aspirants and key party stakeholders.

Olaniyonu described Saraki as a party man who will do everything possible to make sure PDP succeeds in the bid to take over the national government in the coming 2023 elections.

Senator Saraki in company of Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, former Managing Director of FSB International Bank, Mohammed Hayatudeen have been visiting PDP controlled states and other party leaders to canvas for adoption of a consensus Presidential candidate for the main opposition party.

While speaking on the objective of the efforts of Saraki and others to ensure PDP picks its presidential candidate through consensus, Olaniyonu said Saraki was not asking for all aspirants to step down but for the number of aspirants in PDP to be pruned down. As at the last count, 17 aspirants have picked presidential nomination forms in PDP.

Olaniyonu said: “He is a party man to the core. Any decision taken by the party on these two issues will be okay by him. The fact that he and some others are canvassing consensus candidacy, we have to put it in context. We are not saying consensus candidate means only one person will be presented at the primary.

“All we’re simply saying is that, reduce the number to a manageably low rate. Now 17 people have taken forms. The date of picking forms has not closed. More people will still pick. But you see, any serious party that wants to win an election cannot go to the primary with 17 aspirants. You cannot. It will be difficult for the party to handle. It will make the convention very complex. What we have started canvassing is to reduce the number to a manageable extent.

“Create a situation where the aspirants of their own volition can discuss among themselves, persuade each other, some step down for the other so that the number is tremendously reduced.

“So, that is the purpose of this. You can see, when the APC (All Progressives Congress) was an opposition party in 2015 and was serious about defeating the incumbent, it had so many people who were interested in the Presidency, but essentially, only five people got to the ballot at the Lagos convention.

“That was what helped them to manage the process effectively. Now, we’re looking at 17 people who have picked forms. The number may go on to 20 because the sale of forms has not closed.

“So, what they’re simply saying is that, reduce the number. Look for four serious aspirants. Let the aspirants meet of their own volition without anybody compelling them to debate among themselves. And say, let’s start the process. Let’s show a good example. Let’s show people that even in Nigeria that you struggle; you need consensus building. In a country that has these kinds of problems, you need bridge-building. You need people to agree among themselves and put the interest of the nation and the interest of the party above personal ambition.

“So, they said, let us show good examples. So, three of them started; two governors and a former Senate president. Because of the good initiative that they started; one other person joined them; a former MD (managing director) of a leading bank. So, they are four now. They are saying that we are ready to produce only one among us and the three of us are ready to support one person. That’s in the first instance.

“They now said, once we have started, let us encourage others. And that’s how you see them taking their message of building consensus and meeting ground of unity and cooperation; extending it to others. They’ve seen all the 11 governors.”

“Apart from that, they’ve also gone to see top stakeholders of the party. That’s driving the message. Now, they’re even saying that probably next week they want to have a meeting with other aspirants from other zones; to encourage them to also have the same arrangement of working together to reduce the number.

“Their own initiative is sparking a strong discussion in the South, where you see the South-East aspirants; Anyim, Peter Obi, Ohuabunwa and Anakwenze. So, you see, if they are successful, we may end up having three or four aspirants going to the primary. So that is the purpose of all they’re doing. Their own consensus is not about imposing one person or shutting down the ambition of another person.”

Politics / Ondo Govt, PDP Trade Words Over Akeredolu’s Wife Senatorial Ambition In Imo by sammietos(m): 11:11am On Apr 18, 2022
The Ondo State government and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state are locked in a war of words over the decision of the wife of the governor, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu to contest for a senate seat in her home state, Imo.

In a statement by its state Publicity Secretary, Kennedy Peretei, the PDP accused Mrs Akeredolu of using the state’s money to finance her political aspirations in Imo State.

According to the opposition party, the Ondo State first lady has taken all the people of the state should enjoy to her home state to boost her aspirations.

“Last week, Betty Akeredolu officially joined the Senatorial race for Imo East under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“In her address to journalists in Owerri, Mrs Akeredolu said, ‘I am vying for the Senate of Imo East to change the narrative about Owerri Zone. Yes, l am married to the Governor of Ondo State but that shouldn’t deprive me of the right to seek to represent Imo East, which is my maiden Senatorial District. I am proud to come from Emeabiam in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State. Our biggest challenges are roads and hospitals but l am happy that l have been able to attract a 10.5km of roads to Emeabiam at the cost of N16bn. I am grateful to the NDDC… l know my going to Senate will attract huge development for the people of Imo State’.

“Few questions immediately come to mind. Was Betty trying to brag about her status of being a Governor’s wife or trying to reconnect with her roots as being part of the Emeabiam community? Has she ever been involved in development activities or politics of Imo State before her husband became Governor? How many of such NDDC Projects has she influenced to Ondo State?

“Betty’s Senatorial aspiration has been clinically conceptualised immediately after Akeredolu was sworn in as Governor. The first sign was that, some of the Free School Shuttle buses bought by the Dr. Olusegun Mimiko government for easy movement of school children were sighted in Owerri. Of the over 95 buses, not more than 20 are parked at the premises of the Ministry of Works at various levels of decay. The Ondo State government has not told the people the whereabout of the remaining buses. If the government says it has no money to run the buses, one will expect to see the buses on ground. The missing buses may have been used to oil the ‘back to my roots’ project,” the opposition party said.

The PDP added that Mrs Akeredolu who has been a recipient of many chieftaincy titles in Imo State has continued to run the state dry in exchange for those titles.

“There is none of these ceremonies that did not cost Ondo State Tax Payers huge resources that could be channelled to the welfare of the people. If you have received any such traditional title in Nigeria before, you will appreciate what is at stake here,” part of the statement read.

Responding however, Debo Akinbami, Special Assistant to the Governor of Ondo State on New Media & Archives (office of the first lady), said Mrs Akeredolu is an accomplished professional and has what it takes to aspire for any political position in the country.

He also said the Ondo first lady would continue to attract projects to her people in Imo not minding what anybody would continue to say.

“Being part of the specious allegations conjured by the Peoples Democratic Party through its sickly publicity secretary, it is alleged that the Free School Shuttle buses procured by the administration of Dr. Olusegun Mimiko were sighted in Owerri, a subtle but silly euphemism for supposing that the buses are being used in Owerri to expedite the political ambition of Mrs Akeredolu, who is from Imo State. Whereas, matter-of-factly, not a single one of the contentious shuttle buses is in any part of Owerri.

“For the records, however, Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu facilitated the construction of a 10.5km road project for her immediate constituency at the cost of N1.6bn, as against the barefaced falsity of the pathological liars to the extent that the road is being constructed at the cost of N16bn. Meanwhile, the road project in question is being sponsored by NDDC, of which Imo is a stout part. It is not the first of time she would assist her constituents, particularly in private capacity and she will continue to do so without apologies to pretenders who expect her to hate her people the way they hate theirs.

“While we sympathise with the opposition who is already used to idlers as First Ladies and so finding the clout of the incumbent to contend with, it must be stressed that Mrs Akeredolu who is contesting to represent the Owerri Zone at the National A ssembly is an accomplished professional who having reached the peak of her career at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, retired and since been contributing to helping and healing humanity in various ways, hence she has the requisite contents, contacts and wherewithal to win election and do well as a Senator.

“It is not only deceitful and hypocritical for the downing opposition to have given the false impression that the First Lady is relying on the Ondo State exchequer to fund her political ambition, it also shows the extent of certain desperate sadists to stain the immaculate standing of Mrs Akeredolu,” Akinbami said.

sammietos:
Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, Sunday evening, returned to the country from his annual leave, amidst rumours of his hospitalisation.

Governor Akeredolu shared a video of himself arriving at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja being received by some aides.

Among those seen receiving the governor was his Special Adviser on Public and Intergovernmental Relations, Bunmi Ademosun.

News had surfaced online about Akeredolu’s health, suggesting his was being hospitalised, while others claimed he was close to death.

Sahara Reporters had reported on April 7 that Akeredolu was flown out sick to a Germany hospital where he was hospitalised and receiving treatment.

This was quickly debunked by hie media team, who said he was only outside the country to observe the first leg of his annual leave.

In a statement he signed, Akeredolu’s Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde, said the reports were being sponsored to discredit the governor.

According to him, contrary to the report, the governor attended the annual Investment Meeting in the United Emirates between March 28 to 31 before proceeding on his annual leave.

While the rumour was yet to die, blogger Gistlover posted on April 16 that Governor Akeredolu was being treated of prostate cancer and was on live support, with rumours that he had died.

To debunk the rumours, the governor’s media team again posted videos of Akeredolu singing and talking with a friend online.

With Governor Akeredolu back in the country, it puts to an end speculation surrounding his health.

Politics / BREAKING: Akeredolu's Oil And Gas Aide, Enikuomehin, Resigns Amid Cabinet Rumble by sammietos(m): 1:50pm On Dec 03, 2018
Enikuomehin, the Senior Special Assistant on Oil and Gas to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, has resigned his position.

Enikuomehin resigned his position in a letter dated November 30, 2018, signed and addressed to the Governor.

SaharaReporters obtained the copy of the resignation letter, which was routed through the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

In the letter, Enikuomehin did not state the reason for his resignation, but our correspondent learnt that his resignation may be connected to the crisis rocking Akeredolu's cabinet.

Efforts to reach Enikuomehin for comments proved abortive, as all his phone lines were switched off as of press time.

However, a source close to him confirmed hthe resignation to SaharaReporters, saying: "Yes, he has resigned and the resignation letter is not fake. It is real and that is his signature.

"There are many issues going on in this government that people don't know. You are a journalist and I know you should have your nose, ears and eyes in the goverment of Akeredolu who has turned his cabinet into a family business.

"His wife (Betty-Akeredolu) and son have taken over almost everything in the state. All the contracts are now being awarded either to his wife, son and even in-laws. Mostly in the OSOPADEC office, the Governor's wife and son are in charge of all the contracts. They do not allow the people in the ministries or parastatals of the government to carry out their work.

"If there is any project or contract in the state, you wil see the Governor's wife and his son coming in through their pseudo companies to collect the contracts.

"They are the only ones milking the state and the Governor cannot say anything. Even the commissioners cannot talk, because the SAs under them are loyalists of Mr. Governor.

"This is not how to run a government. Akeredolu doesn't know how to run government and let me tell you that Enikuomehin's resignation is just the latest to come in this cabinet."

Politics / REVEALED: Akeredolu Spent Only 4 Days In Ondo State In June 2018 by sammietos(m): 5:27pm On Jul 05, 2018
REVEALED: Akeredolu spent only 4 days in Ondo state in June 2018

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu spent only four days out of a possible 30 in the state in June 2018, SUNSHINE HERALD can confirm.

Checks by our reporter showed that the governor was either in Abuja or Lagos for most part of the month.

With him playing a major role in the just concluded National Convention of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Akeredolu was in Abuja for the planning.

The governor, SUNSHINE HERALD also learnt travelled to China within the month to meet with investors.

Akeredolu started the month on the 1st of June with a solidarity welcome for former Minister of Mines and Steel Development and governorship candidate of the APC in the July 14, 2018 election in Ekiti, Kayode Fayemi at the Akure airport.

After receiving Fayemi at the airport, Akeredolu with a number of his cabinet members joined a convoy to Ado Ekiti, a trip which turned bloody, after a mobile policeman on illegal duty fired shots which hit the DG of Fayemi's campaign organisation, Opeyemi Bamidele.

His first engagement for the month was the state executive council held in Monday, June 4, 2018, where the state government approved the appointment of new paramount rulers for Arogbo-Ijaw and Ajue communities.

The governor was said to have travelled to Abuja immediately after the state exco meeting.

Although SUNSHINE HERALD could not ascertain his date of departure, a source within government circle told our reporter on June 8 that Governor Akeredolu was in China on an investment drive.

He wasn't seen in the public again until June 12, where he in the company of other state governors attended the ceremony organised by the federal government to honour the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola and other pro-democracy activists.

This made the governor to miss a state-organised event in Akure to commemorate June 12.

Akeredolu resumed work for the second time in the month on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, where he hosted the management team of African Development Bank, ADB in his office in Akure.

The governor later in the day celebrated the daily breaking of Ramadan, Iftar with Muslim faithful at the International Event Centre, The Dome in Akure.

As usual, Akeredolu travelled out of the state the next day, but returned to receive the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo who was attending the 80th birthday of the Chairman of Toyota Nigeria, and Proprietor of Elizade Motors, Chief Michael Adeojo.

The governor also joined the vice president to meet with Christian leaders in the state.

Akeredolu was in Igede-Ekiti, Ekiti state, on Saturday, June 16 to join the campaign train of Kayode Fayemi, before receiving party leaders across the nation on Monday, June 18 for the flag-off rally of Fayemi.

He received the Vice President on Tuesday, June 19, where they all proceeded to Ado Ekiti for APC rally.

The governor again joined the vp to meet with traditional rulers in Ekiti state the next day.

He immediately travelled to Abuja to prepare for the national convention of the APC as a member of the convention planning committee.

The national convention of the party held on Saturday, June 23, 2018.

While in Abuja, Governor Akeredolu had a dinner meeting with the US Ambassador to Nigeria, W. Stuart Symington and the United Mission team on Sunday, June 24, at the Ondo House.

Governor Akeredolu's last appearance in Ondo state was on Wednesday, June 27, when he visited the site of fire outbreak at the popular business center, Adjacent the Deji of Akure palace, six days after the incident.

The governor thereafter met with workers in the state under the aegis of Joint Negotiating Committee, JNC which had given the state government an ultimatum to meet its demands or face industrial action.

The governor was seen by our reporter leaving Akure immediately after the meeting.

He was again only seen in the public on Friday, June 29 at the funeral of the first female chartered accountant in sub-Saharan Africa and the second female President of ICAN, Chief Mrs Olutoyin Olusola Olakunrin at St Paul’s Church, Anglican Communion, Breadfruit in Lagos.

Speaking with SUNSHINE HERALD, on the implication of Akeredolu's frequent trips outside the state, a public affairs analyst, Barrister Yemi Adetoyinbo condemned the governor's continous absence from the state.

"If the information is true, it only goes to the fact that we should elect leaders that will be accountable to the electorates that elected them. We should elect leaders that will live by the oath of office they took. The governor of Ondo state, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, ordinarily should respect the oath of office he took, including full residence in Ondo state.

"The governor of Ondo state should be able to stay at home and work, more so, he is a new governor that has just spent over one year in office. He is a governor that should give his dividends of democracy, if it is true that the people of Ondo state massively voted for him, that he won 12 out of the 18 local governments in the state which is not a joke.

"As a governor, he should stay in the state and be at home with the yearnings and aspirations of the people. He should be able to address squarely the welfare of the people of Ondo state, more so there are challenges in the state, and at the same time, we have not seen dividends of democracy from the government. His one year plus has not delivered the dividends of democracy, and this may largely account for what we are saying now, that the governor has not been at home with the people.

"We cannot be having an absentee governor in a state with many challenges, so the governor should be called to order, and I'm advising him to stay at home and do the job. Gone are the days when governors will say they are gallivanting around the globe attracting investments when there is non," he said.

Efforts to speak with Segun Ajiboye, the Chief Press Secretary, CPS to Governor Akeredolu proved abortive, as he did not pick multiple calls to his phone.

He also has not replied a text message sent by our reporter as at the time of filing this report.

Thanks you have been able to break it down to the minutest detail. I hope I can keep in touch with you as I continue the process?

Once again, thanks.

femi312:
imperiouxx and oludare01 might able to give you more insight on clinical chemistry schools after you have put in some work. However, this website is a good place to start to give you a general application and funding information, http://graddecision.org/ So step 1) Decide on the course you want to study 2) Search for schools using a)
www.msinus.com (b) www.gradschools.com c) www.google.com (you can just type 'msc in bla bla in the us in google' d) www.usnews.com e)
www.4icu.org . 3) check up the website of the schools you find, to see the requirements. most schools will require GRE and some will require both gre and toefl . 4) Register for standardize exam and take it. You can register for gre as soon as you are ready and prepared to take the exam. Its done online at www.ets.org. You can also get all the information you need about the exam on the website. You will get adequate materials to prepare for the exam in this dropbox https://www.dropbox.com/sh/t9ot6d07hp1lkm7/AADL_dTihjEvNBRCBsmAcoXja?dl=0

As for the Tuition, if you have good profile (GRE, GPA, Toefl), SOP and LOR; US schools do offer assistanship to graduate students. This can either be Research Assistant, Teaching Assistant or Administrative Assistant. Depending on the school, if you get an assistantship, your Tuition will be waived and you will also be paid a monthly stipend that can take care of your living expenses. One advice, once you shortlist schools, send emails to the grad cord of the schools and ask specific questions relating to that course and funding opportunities, be very explicit. With your first class, you have a VERY good chance of getting a full assistantantship in a good school. Just make sure you ace your GRE, > 315 is a very good score to complement your GPA

Lastly, there are basically 2 admission session in the US, Spring (Jan) and Fall (August). Schools admit more students in Fall, so Its advisable you plan towards Fall 2019. If you plan to resume in fall 2019, make sure you submit all your application documents before ending of Dec 2018. If you don't give it a trial, you will never know. Always do your part, with that your don't get to regret later. Above all, if you believe in God,pray to him.

I still want to further in Biochemistry. Clinical Biochemistry to be precise.

femi312:
First, what course do you intend to study? Scholarships are not that common for graduate studies. What is common is assistantships where you work for a prof as a TA or Ra and your tuition is waived with monthly stipend to take care of your living expenses.

Crime / Herdsmen/ Farmer Clash In Akure by sammietos(m): 9:21pm On Feb 13, 2018
Normalcy has returned to the Akure South Local Government Secretariat after an earlier clash between herdsmen and a farmer.

An eyewitness who spoke with SUNSHINE HERALD said the trouble started when herdsmen grazed their cattle into the vegetable farm of a farmer who is a staff of the local government.

Reports say the farmer’s attempt to caution the herdsmen for destroying his farm resulted in a reprisal attack by other herdsmen in the area, who created a scene at the council secretariat.

The tension caused by the clash made all members of staff of the area council desert their offices in fear.

However, normalcy has returned after men of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC led by the Ondo State Police Commissioner, Gbenga Adeyanju and Pedro Ideba, the Civil Defence boss came around to quell the altercation.

When SUNSHINE HERALD visited the secretariat, men of the Nigeria Police Force and Nigeria Army were seen stationed at strategic positions to prevent further breakdown of law and order.

Speaking with SUNSHINE HERALD, Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Femi Joseph allayed the fears of members of the public on the attack.

Corroborating the earlier report by the eyewitness who spoke with our reporter, the police image maker said it was just a “minor clash” between the herdsmen and the farmer who was preventing the cows from eating his vegetable.

“The farmer had his farm behind the Akure South local government secretariat, and when the herders were bringing their cows, the man prevented them from eating his vegetable. As he was trying to struggle with the herder to dispossess him of his machete, the machete injured one of the herders.

“This angered the herders, and they pursued the man, and the man ran into the secretariat, and everybody came out. That attracted a lot of people.

“The CP (Commissioner of Police) then went there, and we doused the tension and calmed everybody. Normalcy has returned now, and there is no cause for alarm.

Joseph also said the police has arrested two of the herdsmen.

Efforts to speak to the Caretaker Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Mrs. Margaret Atere proved abortive, as her number was switched off when our reporter called her.

Workers in the local council are however apprehensive and afraid, asking for more protection.

Some of the workers who spoke with SUNSHINE HERALD said they are afraid the herdsmen might come back to attack them.

They further said they would not return to work until their security was guaranteed.

Crime / See How MTN Staff Collects Money Before Allowing People Collect Npower Laptop by sammietos(m): 11:54pm On Oct 27, 2017
At the Akure Npower device collection centre, Babatunde Alao investigates the delay and bribery that played out before devices are collected.

Inside the hot sun, people stood disarrayed and disorganized, sweating, as those who could find no strength to stand again, found a harbor to take refuge.

It was the MTN connect office along Oba Adesida road, Akure and they were Npower beneficiaries who came to collect devices distributed by the empowerment scheme.

I had sighted a friend who is a beneficiary.

Altogether, there are two collection points in Ondo State both of which are MTN offices; Ondo and Akure offices.

From afar, one could sense that the process lacks organization, which was what aroused inquisition.

As I tried to maneuver my way through the crowd who had defiled the sun, on that Tuesday afternoon, there came voices that were obviously angry. From one end rose a voice, “we have been here as early as 4.am and some are paying money to go inside.”

In a bid to debunk the voice, I took some steps further into the crowd as I heard another voice, “that guy, he collects money,” pointing to a relatively young dark man about six feet tall having a yellow t-shirt bearing logo of MTN.

Another voice came out; he will make up to N100.000 in a day.

To confirm my curiosity, I set out the following day, 25th October as early as possible. My intent was to confirm or debunk what had been said about the collection process.

I took a cue from the lamentation of one of the beneficiaries who, despite being at the centre around 5 a.m. the previous day, struggled to register his name on number 109.

I arrived at the centre 6:30 a.m. and I was already beaten to first arrival by persons who woke the morning before I did.

While the office was still locked and with no staff at sight yet, I stepped forward to register my name into a list that was supposed to determine who goes in first according to our time of arrival.

1-77 was filled up and I registered number 78 as Adeola Tunji.

A message was sent the previous day giving people the day to come collect the device, reason why the crowd had not been much like previous days.

As I moved around, I overheard some women discussing a re-cap of how the waiting period had been.

“When I came here yesterday by this time, it was the crowd that was much that made them say we should go and come back until some people went to the Bank of Industry office to protest,” said one of the women.

Asked if people paid, she said, “that was last week, people were paying. It depends on how you play your card.”

Another woman who was carrying a child complained, “I’ve been coming since Monday, the person I stayed with came here around 5 a.m and he registered as number 158 on the list. I got here today around six, I register as number 48.”

She narrated further, “after they noticed that the crowd was much, they now said it was not available that people should go. So some people went to the Bank of Industry to protest.”

The morning was becoming clearer and I was getting closer.

A young man who sat close by confirmed to me that some of the staff were collecting money.

“Some of the workers are doing it, they are collecting money but when I collected mine I didn’t give them money o.”

According to him, he collected his device on Monday. He later narrated that the demand for the money was not open but privately.

“If you come and you know you cannot bear the crowd, you can go and see one of them.”

The collection process has been a slow one that discourages men from waiting.

“Don’t they want to release the device,” I asked and he replied, “they will release it but only want to make money from it. Some of their guys are doing it.”

“Did you mean the security men”, I probed further. “I don’t know o but the security man could be doing his too,” he answered.

A step further, I ran into a familiar young man who had come to get his device.

After a few pleasantries, he narrated the even that played out the previous day as I opened up a discussion.

“I heard yesterday was even more hectic,” I started.

“I was here yesterday, In fact, we went to protest at Bank of Industry. It was after we came back that a handful of us received.”

“They didn’t send a message they ought to have sent to us before until we had gone to protest. After we protested, they started sending the message,” he said.

“I even heard some of the staff are collecting money,” I broke in abruptly. “Yes, now, they are using the means to collect money,” he replied.

He continued, “The message should have indicated the day each person will come for the device but the whole process has not been organized.”

While we waited for the arrival of designated personnel to continue the distribution process, the crowd was growing bigger yet not as big as the previous days.

The process could have been a less stressful one but according to a young man, “they want to be doing their own work. They want to distribute twenty or thirty in a day so that it will not disturb their work.”

Why they do that? He explained, “the whole thing is for them to make some money. If people are much and are lobbying to go on time, they will settle them,” he said.

A tally serves as an entrance ticket but one tally could carry more weight than the other.

Some few minutes before nine, some of the workers were arriving already.

A little more patience will pay off, I had thought.

At the sight of one of the security men, I approached him, discussing how he could help to get me into the office. He assured me to remain calm and that would be possible as soon as the workers are around and the office is opened.

All the while, my mind was on “that guy” whom I was told the previous day “collects money” so I could understand when the security man gave his assurance.

The Npower scheme was launched by the Federal government over a year ago.

The main policy thrust of the program is the development of large-scale skills by addressing the challenge of youth unemployment.

The platform was designed for youths between the ages of 18 and 35.

Currently, the scheme has over 200,000 beneficiaries that cut across the 36 states of the federation.

The anchor program includes Npower Agro; Npower Tax; Npower Build; Npower Creative; Npower Health; Npower Teach and Npower Tech.

Another member of staff of the MTN Connect office (the guy we have all been waiting for) arrived without announcement. After spending few minutes inside the office, he came out with a list as he majestically made some steps towards his car while ‘lobbyists’ were looking for the slightest opportunity to speak with him.

His first statement, “I no dey come outside today o na inside office I wan work throughout (I am not coming outside today, I will be working from inside the office).

“So I cannot have connection with anybody. Until you come inside before you see me. I need a rest”

A man pleaded for his attention, “just few minutes of your time sir,” as he beckoned on the man who will fix his tire.

I had joined the few persons pacing to and fro around him just to get his attention and steal a few minutes of ‘negotiation’ with him.

Taking up the chance that stood before me, I took an approach towards him as I asked, “oga, how e dey be?” (how are you sir?).

His response was a concise question indicating we didn’t have enough talking time, “which one you wan collect?” (Which device do you want to collect?).

“Samsung,” I replied.

“Your money na N2,000″ (you will pay N2,000), he whispered as he avoided an eye contact.

“Oya come write your name here,” (come and put down your name here), pointing at the back page of a handbill where I entered my new name, Adeolu Tunji as number 18.

He instructed further, “Wait I want to give you something.”

The “something” was a yellow tally that reads, “Npower queue tally. Signed: MTN connect store, Akure.” While 055 was boldly inscribed on it.

Trying to be sure of how much time I would wait, I enquired, “How many minutes before it’s done?”

“This is the first list we’d attend to,” he assured me.

We had the deal sealed by his car. He closed his car as he walked briskly to the side entrance of the building.

I thought I could plead with him to collect a lesser amount but he was obviously not in for any further negotiation as he demanded, “oya now where’s your money?”

After doing the needful, I made my way back to the frontage.

I quickly ran so fast to catch up with him with a question, “oga, if I get other people nko?”

“Ehn, you let me know. Let me give you my number: zero nine zero…”, up to the last digit.

“Your name sir?”

“Joseph,” as he opened the door and entered the office.

It was some few minutes before 9 o’clock, he probably had made much money and if he continues would make more.

I calmly waited for my name to be called.

Nursing mothers and pregnant women were priorities while others were to be called in fives.

It suddenly dawned on me that it was the list in which I had my name on number 78 that was used.

The lack of organization in the process was enough to discourage people of early collection.

Breach of Agreement.

“Hello! Hello!! Hello!!!” it was I on the phone trying to be sure my receiver was clear on the other side. I called the number Joseph had given to me. It was picked and hanged up as I tried to explain to him he was supposed to call my name on the list.

I called again but his line was now busy.

Just beside me was a young man who also had an “arrangement” with Joseph but the line was busy as he made several attempts to reach him on phone.

“The guy f**k up”, he said as he hissed.

The collection process includes that beneficiaries present their BVN and pen before they get the device.

The distribution does not involve payment of money by the beneficiaries or collection of money by the distributing agency but this seems to have been flaunted here.

Daily post reported that the scheme encouraged beneficiaries to report “anyone who tries to take advantage” of them during the process.

According to the Manager of the Akure MTN office, Mrs. Rhoda, the process started over two weeks and was supposed to last nine days but obviously exceeded the stipulated time.

The manager who was contacted on phone by SUNSHINE HERALD denied knowledge of any bribery in the device collection process.

“Ma, are you aware some of your staff collect money from people before they gain entrance into the building? I asked.

She answered, “am not aware of that.”

As I demanded more information, she rebuffed, “As a journalist you would not expect me to start giving you information on phone. I don’t know who you are.”

Also contacted on phone was the Coordinator of Npower in Ondo State, Barr. Sola Ajisafe.

After several attempts trying to get through to him paid off, he also denied knowledge of the allegation even despite investigation revealing such.

“I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know” was his response.

He further explains, “Am not involved in the distribution. It’s a direct relationship between MTN and Npower office in Abuja.”

Crime / PHOTOS: How Air Peace Officials Stole Airline’s Money At Akure Airport by sammietos(m): 2:48pm On Oct 26, 2017
More facts have emerged on how members of staff of Air Peace airline allegedly stole money in the airline’s office at the Akure Domestic Airport.

SUNSHINE HERALD had earlier reported yesterday that thieves broke into the airline’s office Sunday night and carted away a vault containing money said to be proceeds from tickets sold for flights on Friday and Sunday.

Early Thursday morning, men of the Aviation Security at the Akure Airport noticed some suspicious movements by one of the staff of the airline by name Moses Oseni.

Oseni was said to have made a contact with an Okada man who came to pick him at the terminal area of the airport, after which he proceeded towards the gate with a sack in his hands.

While at the gate, security men who had been tipped off, asked for the contents of the sack, which he failed to reply.

Upon search, it was discovered that the sack contained huge amount of money, which made them detain him and call the Oba-Ile division of the Nigeria Police who came to arrest him.

Upon arrest, Oseni confessed to the crime, he also confessed not being the only one involved in the crime.

His arrest led to the discovery of a location inside the bush in the airport premises where the vault containing the money was found.

As witnessed by SUNSHINE HERALD, it was jubilation galore at the airport, as members of staff thanked God for bringing to the public the culprits.

A member of staff who spoke with SUNSHINE HERALD on the condition of anonymity said the discovery of the money and vault was a victory for the members of staff of FAAN in the airport.

“We are happy the thieves have been caught,” he said.

“These Air Peace people have been accusing us (Airport staff) of being the ones who stole their money.

“Their management from Lagos had even asked that their members of staff arrested be released, stating that this was disturbing their operations.

Politics / If You Are Not At Work For A Day, You Lose The Salary For That Month -akeredolu by sammietos(m): 5:19pm On Oct 25, 2017
The governor of Ondo state, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on Tuesday said his administration will henceforth not tolerate frivolities from workers and political appointees in the state.

Governor Akeredolu made this known during the inauguration of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) at the Cocoa conference hall in the governor’s office.

He said; “We will soon get a state where anybody that works for you must clock in and clock out. The moment you are not at work a day, you will lose the salary for that month.

“We are starting soon, from the local government service to the core civil service and the political appointees.

“If you don’t clock in and clock out at the time you are to do, you will not receive salary.”

The governor said renovation works will start very soon on all dilapidated structures in all public schools in the state.

“We don’t intend to build mega schools, build the schools you can afford, money will come to you, so that there will be to spend.

“If I send someone to you that you should give him work, if he is not capable, please don’t give such person work. We are not saying our politicians should not have work to do, give them but make sure they do the work given.

“There are many people I am knowing for the first time who are on the board, this shows that this appointment is not about Aketi. The expectation of our people is so high.

“I want SUBEB to hit the ground running. Madam chairman, I leave SUBEB in your hands. We have entrusted a lot to you, in spite of opposition. We will remain resolute and focused, we will not be deterred by issues.

“Our dear state earned an enviable reputation as the bastion of intellection in the past. This glory was not a product of happenstance, our forbears worked assiduously to achieve greatness. The development of the society was anchored on a steady and clear-headed principle of applying knowledge to solve socio-economic problems.

“Aspirations towards the attainment of lofty objectives were not mere expressions of capricious preferences. The founding fathers of this land toiled ceaselessly to make us prosper. The acquisition of knowledge was considered basic. They were convinced of its value. Education defines the quality of human existence. The training of human being is for the benefit of the society.

“Those who preceded us appreciated this fact. Consequently, it was not uncommon to witness the proliferation of community schools established through direct labour and contributions of people who had come to terms with the reality of happenings in a modern world. Such was the spirit which propelled the society towards self-sufficiency and prosperity.

“Our land became a reference point for the best of values because of our undying belief in education. Agriculture blossomed, extension services yielded bountiful harvests.”

In her remarks, the chairperson of SUBEB, Mrs. Oladunni Odu thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in them and assured of their commitment to executing his administration’s vision.

“We are highly privileged. It is your prerogative to appoint whoever you want to work with you.

“We members of SUBEB say thank you sir. We are saying we have 100% loyalty to you and committed to the service of Ondo state.

“Basic education is like building a house, and we must have a solid foundation for education in Ondo state.”

The newly inaugurated SUBEB members are; Princess Oladunni Odu, chairperson, Princess Olufunmilayo Brown, Full Time Member I, Mr. Tayo Isaac Fayanju, Full Time Member II. Ex-officio members include Augustine Oloruntogbe, North, Adebiyi Ayinuola, Central and Adenikinju George from the South. Other board members are Alhaji Owolaja Abimbola A, Comrade Victor Oladele Amoko and Mrs Ronke Ojo.

Also inaugurated as Education Secretaries are Mr. J. M Oredola (Ose), Mr. Ajibola Adegoroye (Owo), Mr. Femi Kure (Akoko South East), Mr. Akogun Olugbenga Omole (Akoko South West), Mr. Oyeniyi Oseni (Akoko North East), Mrs Folakemi Ogunsile (Akoko North West), Mr Isaac Adu (Akure South).

Suspected robbers on Sunday night stormed the Akure domestic airport in Ondo state, stealing a huge amount of money at the Akure office of Air peace Airline.

An employee of the airline who spoke to SUNSHINE HERALD on condition of anonymity said they were shocked when they resumed on Monday and discovered that the office had been burgled, with a vault containing millions of naira carted away.

SUNSHINE HERALD further gathered that the hoodlums gained access to the airport through the bush surrounding the airport.

Investigation showed that the money was proceed from the sale of tickets between Friday and Sunday.

“It has never happened before, even two people can’t carry the safe (vault) where the money was kept.

“We are still in shock, how the robbers could have been able to operate freely without challenge with the number of security men at the Airport”, she said.

The incident was thereafter reported at the Oba-Ile Police station, after which some arrests were made.

Ondo state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Femi Joseph who confirmed the incident to SUNSHINE HERALD said contrary to public opinion, the incident was a mere case of burglary and not an armed robbery incident as is being speculated.

“We got the report that some hoodlums burgled into the Air peace airline office in Akure.

“It was a constructive break-in, maybe burglary. They just stole some money there.

“It was very constructive because there was no particular break-in.

“We have commenced investigation, and some suspects are helping us in our investigation.

Politics / I Support Restructuring, I Can’t Remarry My Wife From Biafra - Akeredolu by sammietos(m): 8:47pm On May 30, 2017
The Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, on Monday, re-echoed his long time support for restructuring the country for her to survive her current challenges.

While urging the people to have a rethink and re-dedicate themselves to nation building, the Governor advised the youth to actively participate in governance .

Mr. Akeredolu spoke in Akure at the celebration of this year’s democracy day held at the international event center.

According to the Governor, he was against succession as being agitated in some quarters as he can’t afford to remarry his wife, Mrs Betty from another country.

He said: “I am an advocate of restructuring. I have no option because I can’t go back to remarry my wife from other country.

“Democracy for me is the ability to cope with divergent views. Democracy is for development but we can’t say we have not benefited from military.”

Delivering the Democracy Day lecture in entitled; ‘Democracy and Development in Nigeria: Issues, Challenges and the Way Forward’, A human right lawyer and activist, Dr Tunji Abayomi faulted the current constitution being in place in the country, saying it is against the well being of the people.

He said it was the constitution that should give rise to any government as against what was being witnessed in the country ,where the government at various levels gave the constitution.

He said constitution was an agreement by the people on how they want to be governed.

While saying democracy requires exposing the people to choosing their leaders and also the need for responsible law for national development, the foremost lawyer said the people should be ready to fight for their right.

The former governorship aspirant in the state, further explained that the bane of the country’s democracy has been the abject poverty in the land, the menace of corruption and the unjust distribution of the national wealth.

The APC chieftain noted that democracy is never a finished project, rather it is always revolving.

Abayomi urged the National Assembly to enact laws that would enable the people to have their constitution, while also saying constitutional democracy should be freely negotiated by the people.

Ondo Students give state government, management, ASUU 14 days ultimatum to end strike

The Students’ Union of the Adekunle Ajasin University, AAUA has issued a 14 day ultimatum to the Ondo state government, the institution’s management and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU to end the 2 months old strike in the school or be ready to see the students take their destinies into their own hands.

In a statement signed by the President of the Student Union, Adegbola Odunyemi and obtained by SUNSHINE HERALD, the union reiterated that industrial action in embarked upon by ASUU in the institution is destroying the future of the over 15000 students.

Citing the examples of the 500 level law students who are preparing for their Law School and the final year students who are meant to write their final examination September, 2016, the students body noted that their destines have been held down.

The statement reads in part: “It is a popular saying that our life ends when we decide to keep silent on issues affecting us. The two months old ASUU strike has done more harm than good to our students particular the 500l Law students preparing for their Law school and the final year students who were supposed to write their last examination by September. Destinies has been held down due to this protracted strike and as a result of that we the Students of Adekunle Ajasin University are very sick and tired of this strike and can no longer condone it.”

“In view of this salient point we are giving the members of ASUU, the university management and the state government 14 DAYS ultimatum to reach a compromise of which by virtues of this press statement after the expiration of this 14 DAYS ultimatum, the Students will have to take destiny into their own hands and take the centre stage.”

Politics / Ondo 2016: APC Ward Chairmen Endorse ‘tinubu’s Candidate’ Segun Abraham by sammietos(m): 1:10am On Aug 17, 2016
Akure – Tuesday, August 16, 2016 marked a significant leap in Olusegun Abraham’s bid to become the governor of Ondo state as the Conference of Ward Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress, APC from the 203 political wards in state declared their support for him in the party’s primaries and by extension the governorship election.

Their position was made known at a public declaration held at a popular hotel situated in Akure, the state capital.

The Chairman of the Conference, James Kolawole who addressed the press on the behalf of his other colleagues after the public declaration, noted that they all decided to pitch their tent with Abraham and give him their support as a result of the leader qualities they have seen in him.

He also disclosed that they all believe Abraham judging by his entrepreneurial skills has the capacity to resuscitate the dwindling economy of the state.

Kolawole further noted that Abraham has been a foundational member of the APC right from the Alliance for Democracy, AD days, while noting that his candidature is already recognized by the party’s national leaders.

The conference of the ward chairmen of the party according to him, decided to follow the footpath of their national leaders by declaring their support for Mr. Abraham because of his “unflinching personality.”

“We the conference of ward chairmen in the 203 wards are declaring our stance today to support the candidacy of Mr. Olusegun Abraham as we head to the primary election of our great party.

“We are in support of the aspirant (Olusegun Abraham) that has been identified to have the most fitting capacities to overcome the economic challenges in Ondo state,” he said.

On the issue of imposition of candidates as alleged by some members of the party, the Conference chairman noted that no one from any quarter imposed anybody on them, while further stressing that the conduct of the primary election would be guided by the party’s constitution.

“The position of the national leadership of the party is an informed one, not an imposition as wrongly branded by some aggrieved few within the state’s party structure”

Sports / Ameobi Wants To Represent Nigeria At The World Cup by sammietos(m): 7:10pm On Jul 15, 2013
Newcastle striker Sola Ameobi has stated his desire to represent the Super Eagles at the 2014 World Cup scheduled to take place in Brazil.

Ameobi who has a single cap for Nigeria in the friendly game against Venezuela in Miami, November 2011 missed the last African Cup of Nations in South Africa due to a clause in his Newcastle contract which stopped him.

With the clause removed, Ameobi has shown his readiness to play again for Nigeri, with coach Stephen Keshi also making known his intention to hand him an invitation to the squad.

"It would be incredible for me to represent Nigeria again. And to help them qualify for the World Cup would make it extra special,"

"I've got to get into this incredibly talented team, make sure I give my best, show my experience and make a significant contribution," he said.

"I made my (Nigeria) debut at 31, now here I am and hopefully my experience will enable me to develop at this level.

"Every player is looking to play at the World Cup. I think we've got every chance of qualifying - but we must fight and earn the right to be there, he said"

With the Super Eagles slated to play the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the Nelson Mandela Challenge on 14 August in Durban, there is a great opportunity for Ameobi to make a return, before Nigeria play Malawi in the World Cup qualifier in September.

Coach Keshi will release his team list for the South Africa game this week.
