This week, it's Reforming the Unreformable by Okonjo Iweala. Local titles are quite popular with Nigerians. http://www./Reforming-the-Unreformable%3A-Lessons-from-Nigeria-33525.html |

Yes, post a title here and www. will try to get it for you. Also talk about what's trending and what you're currently reading. Did you know that Chinua Achebe's "There was a country" and Okonjo Iweala's "Reforming the unreformable" have been best sellers this month? Why? |
Education / Re: Give An Advice To This Confused University Student by Sammy107d(m): 1:13am On Oct 29, 2012 |
Please invest special effort into improving your quality of writing. Reading good literature should help, not these nigerian authors of 'ten ways to get handsome' self-help(?) titles. Chimamanda's writing style is fluid and easy to learn.... I would have scolded a secondary school child if he'd written this. |
Career / Re: The Importance Of A Laptopto A College Student? by Sammy107d(m): 4:56pm On Oct 28, 2012 |
My brother, doesn't matter if you're a French student. Where I studied (and it really doesn't matter), going without a computer would have equalled failing myself. I did Finance and Acctn, yet I churned out at least 10,000 words of literature and presentations weekly. All lectures were accessible online, and I'm many cases, assignments were to be submitted online with midnight deadlines. Many of my textbooks were electronic as well. Spent 50percent of study-time either researching online or communicating with profs or students. Also took notes in class by typing them in directly, cos I couldn't have possibly written enough. Can't count the number of skype group meeting and iterations of copy and paste. I would be incapable at work now without the daily use of software, primarily excel (trust me, most people who think they know excel or computers, even many giving training, don't know jack). Even if you can do goal-seeks and concatenate, run office macros and churn out charts in seconds, you're still likely less than intermediate. I think intelligence is more about knowing what you don't know than knowing what you know. Its that way that you can know your limits and abilities, and take opportunities. I'm telling you that you're an undergraduate fresher; its unlikely that you don't have an employable knowledge of the computer, and obsolete and frustratingly slow cyber cafe computers can't do any good. Not enough that your the guy they call at home when they see the blue screen of death. Also, if a college student can't control his gaming habits and regulate movie time, he's not ready for college. Besides, I would have been miserable if I couldn't take a break after hours of study and run some episodes of House or tracks of coldplay on my bed at 2am. Get a decent computer, one that's very good and can last four years. On graduation, you'll smile, give it a final kiss as it gives up on you, and toss it in the garbage like everyone else. |

You all are right. Customer service/communication is critical. I really believe we'll see more and more improvements. Glad you got your refund Papa giddy. I hope they apologised profusely. The opportunities Jumia promises is profound... @Pufectskin: I can't finger a reasonable point in your statement. |

Trubrotha, I understand. Personally, I'm against rights infringement, and if you have a legitimate claim, you should go for it. I'm just against the default, ninja-assassin stance many people assume when they see any form of innovation. Unless one is truly an aggrieved customer, no reason to cry wolf. I've had my order delivered, and I know of many others like me. It's a bit hasty to conclude that it's my job to market Rocket, as I wish any sort of high-quality, innovative start-up good luck. |

TruBrotha: Well tell your self that. Don't make me post email communications okay? Just stick to your Job of online marketing and mind what you post and respond to or you would create something bigger than you can handle. Hey it's your legal adventure. If publicising e-mail communications out of emotions will strengthen your case, well, open an 'exposing kasuwa' thread.. Others, I hope you are receiving your orders. You have a right to quality service. Jumia will potentially revolutionise Africa, and we should all embrace anything like it. |

TruBrotha: Guys, It must be flattering to think they changed names because of you. If you know Rocket Internet and the Jumia brand, you'll know that a trivial trademark claim isn't enough to instigate a major strategic move like a rebranding and integration with several African ventures (www.jumia.com).. I'm sure Amazon, Pepsico, Rocket Internet etc deal with several trademark claims every time. 1 Like |

blank: I don't know how to edit out my personal details if not i would have uploaded a screenshot of the "my order" page. I placed the order 29th of June 2012. I am not saying they are a fraudulent company. My grouse is their shoddy service and nonchalant attitude. Ok. 29th of June is a little over 6 weeks ago. If I may ask, when did you receive your order, and which city did you have it delivered to? |
Business / Re: Online Shop, Kasuwa Rebrands To Jumia by Sammy107d(m): 5:49am On Aug 17, 2012 |
azpekuliar: Mine's a positive one. I 'tested' first, by ordering for some comestics from Ebay through them and they arrived within 3 weeks. Overall I was quite satisfied with the quality of service I got. I'd still be patronising them. Ordering my LG 47WL5600 Infinia HDTV through them. I'm not sure you can channel orders from other websites through Jumia. You can't order things from Ebay and have Jumia deliver. Or maybe you meant that you saw a similar product on Jumia. If it took three weeks to deliver, you shouldn't be happy with that. |

Thousands of satisfied customers will keep returning to Jumia. For those screaming fraud, visit their conspicuous office in Lagos and ask a question. It's your money. Fortunately for Africa, Jumia has come to stay. Typical of nairaland to cry wolf and 'de-crypt' senselessly. |
Business / Re: Online Shop, Kasuwa Rebrands To Jumia by Sammy107d(m): 10:15pm On Aug 16, 2012 |
Very interesting allegations there. I find it amusing though, that Kasuwa only launched just a few days over 2 months ago, and it's book library came up much later than the launch date. Kasuwa has been offering free delivery. I don't see anyone complaining about a charge, so there's no deception there. And DHL? Hmm.. You seem convinced though, and if indeed your order was just delivered last week or a week before, as you claim, then you have good reason to be aggrieved. |

Business / Re: Online Shop, Kasuwa Rebrands To Jumia by Sammy107d(m): 7:47pm On Aug 16, 2012 |
People telling tales of 2month old orders. Very funny. Facts: Jumia will not delay a delivery for two months. It is virtually impossible. Jumia didn't even have a books category two months ago. If your order is delayed past the maximum delivery time promised, call customer care. If you're still not satisfied, or if the occasion for the 'gift'-giving has passed, simply cancel your order. If your product is faulty, invoke the Jumia warranty. It's very simple. The need to rebrand was borne out of incredible growth, not a slowdown. Jumia nigeria is now part of an international brand just like Jumia Egypt etc., all under the Rocket internet umbrella. That means more liberty to diversify product offerings and expand across other African countries. At 1.8million visits within three months and 20,000 visitors daily, there's no better sign of growth. |

I can't help but wonder if going for the 'Ed' degrees was a deliberate move. That'll provide a little context regarding your goals. As an aside, I am dis-inclined to think that the generic 'Trainee Officer' is a title of any value, and I can only imagine the lack of responsibilities on that job. 2 Likes |
