@ Ikengawo

You are obviously a confused and a troubled soul and have cooked up silly statistics to flatter your ego.
News flash; no one here is fooled or as confused as yourself. So crawl back into the hole you came from. Come back here when you have got something sensible to write.

Something's gotta be wrong with you people. You just clicked reply to hurl insults at the man without reason and substance. What gratification do you derive from unshaky self-hate. So cos Ikengawo's statistics are positive, he must have pulled them out of nostrils undecided

Ghana is just a few hrs away. Y'all can easily go and eat from their lush pastures.

I think the idea of voice voting in the Legislative and senate houses is entirely uncivil. How can you confine the fate of an entire nation on indeterminable volumes of "I's" and "Nays"?

Negro_Ntns:

I respect minds that ask the right questions.  Great question Sam!

There are two military forces in Haiti - US military and Israeli Defense Force.

Why are they there?  I raised points on this in another thread.

Here is what we need to have in the back of our minds and this is scary.

1. US and Isreal in a mock exercise for an infiltration into Iran to possibly topple regime.

2.  A forward thinking and precedence for how rescue and recovery will be done in future in poor countries.  I say poor countries because I don't expect Brazil or India or China allowing US and IDF access onto their soil to aid victims of tragedy. It is a way of telling the word and those countries in Africa that when catastrophy hits your nation we will bring our militaries on your soil to rescue your people because you can't do it on your own.

Again, good question!

Same military force. One just speaks better english.

@Sammy107_d

Note: Photo numbering is top to bottom as you scroll down.

1) Photographs 1-5: Is that green but narrow stretch of land a public park? If so, what is it called?

2) Photograph 10: The green area by the waterfront. Is that a public park? Do you know if there are plans to keep that area an open space?

3) Would you know if Lagos has public parks similar to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, or Central Park in New York?

4) Are there even public parks in Lagos? I don’t mean small public gardens such as the Muri Okunola “park” on VI.

Pic 1-5 is not a public park. I'll like to believe that the area is swampy, and can't be built upon.

The large opened space by the waterfront doesn't look like a park to me, more like a station for local fishermen. The little, well manicured,  rectangle by the highway looks like a recreational spot though.

There are quite a number of parks in Lagos, and many are springing up (definitely not central park scale. baby steps). This video summarizes all I know about Lagos' greening programme.

Nigeria to help quake-hit Haiti

Vice President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday expressed condolences to President René Préval and the people of Haiti over the devastating earthquake in the country’s capital, Port-au-Prince.

In a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice-President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ima Niboro, Jonathan expressed Nigeria’s sympathy with Haiti, noting that Nigerians shared in the grief of their Haitian brothers and sisters.

He said the international community can count on Nigeria’s support on the rebuilding of Haiti.

Also Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Alhaji Jibril Maigari yesterday said Nigeria will donate food items and other relief materials to the people of Haiti who were hit by earthquake.

Maigari told the BBC Hausa service that no Nigerian died in the disaster, adding that the country has been assured by the United Nations that all the 120 Nigerian Police officers serving in the UN peacekeeping mission in Haiti are safe.

Also in a statement issued in Abuja, he said the ministry has been in touch with Nigeria High Commissioner to Jamaica Mr Peter Oyedele who was in Haiti to monitor the situation and confirmed that no Nigerian died in the unfortunate incident.

The minister said Nigeria commiserates with the people of Haiti over the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that claimed over a thousand lives and rendered thousands homeless.

"The Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria expresses its condolences to the President and People of Haiti on the devastating earthquake," the minister said in a statement issued in Abuja.

Meanwhile, the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), the World Food Program (WFP) and other United Nations bodies are monitoring the distribution of food and other relief materials to Haitians after the country was devastated earthquake on Tuesday.

FAO said it is "closely monitoring the situation on ground to get a clearer picture on the immediate impacts of food security and food production" as they deal with emergency food aid and nutrition.

Senate to probe NTA’s black out on Yar’Adua’s debate

The Senate yesterday vowed to investigate the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) for failing to beam live its debate on the health status of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. Chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and Media Senator Ayogu Eze who stated this at a press conference said the Senate made arrangement for the live coverage of the debate on the motion which was considered important to the nation.

Daily Sun, however, gathered that the management of the Federal Government controlled television network received a counter directive from above not to beam the Senate debate live to avoid some comments that may not be palatable to the Presidency.

However, Senator Eze who is also the Spokesman of the Senate stressed that the refusal of the management of the NTA to provide live coverage for the Senate debate was a deliberate attempt to frustrate an independent arm of government saying that the legislature is not part of the executive arm of government.

According to Senator Eze; “I want to let all Nigerians know that this morning we were billed to beam the debate and all other things that happened live in the chamber and we had informed NTA accordingly and the NTA management refused to bring their live cameras and l belief it was an attempt to frustrate the efforts of the Senate to brief the people of Nigerians live so that we can see what we are talking about,” he alleged.

Senator Eze further said that he personally spoke with the Director General of NTA Mallam Usman Magawata on Monday who gave him the assurance that he was going to send his team for the live coverage of the debate for the interest of Nigerians only to renege on Tuesday morning.
“l think he owes it a duty to the people of Nigeria to tell them about this sabotage to frustrate an arm of government .
This is what we have been talking about that the legislature is the whipping boy of Nigerian democracy because it is the youngest arm and therefore people can conspire and do whatever they like. I think it was in a very bad taste for NTA management under the directive of whoever to do what they did today because that station is run with money contributed with Nigerian people,” Senator Eze enthused.

The Senate spokesman also said that giving the fact that the NTA management appear before the National Assembly for budget on yearly basis, it therefore has no reason whatsoever not to avail its services to Nigerian people who indeed own the station.
In the words of Senator Eze; “If you gag the Senate, you have already gag the representative of the people. This is very serious and I want the people of this country to appreciate how serious the situation is and to understand that this indeed an attempt to subvert the will of the people of Nigerian and we are going to do everything within our power as an independent arm of this democracy to resist and investigate and get to the root of this matter and make sure that this type of the misdemeanor would not happen next time.”

I do agree with you but the number of people gaining from the mal-union are the kind of influence they wield will make breaking up a far cry. Face it, no one likes Nigeria, even the citizens, Most people pretend to love Nigeria as they are stuck with it and have no other option.

I was in church some weeks ago and a Nigerian was giving a testimony of how he has now acquired the citizenship of a European country and everyone was cheering and some even looking green with envy.

If you think I am wrong, if you have the options of 2 passports, American and Nigerian, which one will you go for? That will tell you how much you love this failed state called Nigeria.

I'll go for the Nigerian passport 'cos I'm not American. But of course you wouldn't believe that.
