Maduawuchukwu:

What OBJ did to the north was a patriotic duty. Breaking the evil yoke a part of a country has over another is good but revenue is a different matter most especially in a country where the ruling elite killed all the other regions means of livelihood just cause of oil fixation. If Nigeria must remain one country the issue of revenue must be sorted out neatly so that each part has something to hold on to. You can pontificate as much as you want but you know that there is not suppose to be a massive difference in economic well being between different parts of a country so the revenue issue must be done carefully with support of most of the country. Even if GEJ increased Niger-Delta revenue via constitutional provision providing for 13% and above another president could return it backwards to 13% because no law regulates it. So the issue is not that simple.

ToMAYto.......toMAHto.... if you can't see the hypocrisy in calling breaking the "Northern Yoke" patriotic and getting angry with Buhari's because he is prioritising Northern issues.... then we will be at this for a while.

As for GEJ and derivation, my point (made in my first post) remains it is a red herring.

What the real people in his region want is to feel development and it is not the absence of money that is depriving them of this, but the greed and wastefulness of their ruling elite which he is well aware of.

Did you even read the whole post at all?

Goodluck's submission is on true fiscal federalism and NOT derivation. The 2104 confab agreed on fiscal federalism, in which states are allowed to harness resources to their individual benefits. It also removed certain items from the exclusive list, paving the way for the removal of federal bureaucratic bottlenecks from states, allowing each to develop what it has it's own way.

It seems you are the one struggling to comprehend.
True fiscal federalism as you put it will involve resource control (and derivation) as the theory is each state should have full control on taxing economic activity the way they deem fit and remit part to the FG instead of the way it is where the FG remits to them.

Anyway he clearly talks about the fact that Wike would not have achieved what he did without derivation and I 100% agree with him as it seems only Lagos can develop without handouts from the sea.

Maduawuchukwu:

Actually he might have been able to do something but you know that no good leader takes decisions without a major part of his people being at his back most especially for a major decision that involves revenue. If he had done it unilaterally; that is even if he had the power, he would have been a Niger-Delta president and not a Nigerian president. A resolution reached by the conference would have been better as it would have come from delegates who represented all parts of the country. And that is the difference between pple like Obj or GEJ then Buhari. Why the first two acted like Nigerian presidents the latter acts like a northern president.

I understand where you are coming from but what you don't realise was that OBJ, despite being roundly rejected by us in the West addressed our most poignant issue early in his first term, by crippling the ability of the North to rule us against our will using their favourite tool, the Army. This was no mean feat and is the single most important reason Yorubas supported him enmasse in 2004. He restructured the Nigerian power landscape and his original backers only realised it when it was too late to stop him!

The reason why I am pointing this out to you is to show that sometimes being motivated by sectional goals can actually be something that enriches all of us (Yoruba, Ijaw, Igbo etc) and being motivated by nothing (i.e. GEJ) can be a far worse alternative.

I put it to you that regional resource control would actually help the 5 other regions of Nigeria more in the long run because they would all be forced to sit up and face life the way it actually is. I mean would Northerners self inflict so much harm on their region if they knew their was no oil money to rebuild it? Would they allow Fulani herdsmen to destroy farms if they knew these crops will finance their budgets? Would we Yoruba continue with states like Ekiti that are not viable?

A president of the North that wants to kill Boko haram, bring back chibok girls and fight corruption is fine with me for now as long as he allows my Lagos to keep developing at its pace.

Eventually if his onesideness is not addressed, I will move on to the next local champion that will give me what I believe is important for my region and hopefully my country to move on.

At least he took a bold step to do

What bold step? So by simply discussing a matter, one takes a bold step? Ok, I have decided I will one day knock Mayweather out..... abi I have taken my bold step!!

A reminder to you revisionist, his failure of a national conference agreed to leave derivation the way they met it, but they did leave it to him to take an actual bold step if he wanted it changed:

Derivation: Confab stands on 13%, pushes increase to Jonathan
POSTED BY EMMANUEL LEKE ON JULY 14, 2014 IN FEATURED , NATIONAL CONFERENCE |
LEAVE A RESPONSE

Speaking on the position of the Consensus Group, the Chairman of Conference, retired Justice Idris Kutigi, said President Jonathan should set up technical committee to decide on the appropriate percentage for oil producing states and areas destroyed by insurgency in the country

After a five-hour closed doors meeting by the Consensus Group of the National Conference, delegates agreed to maintain the 13 per cent status quo on derivation.
They however proposed that President Goodluck Jonathan should set up a Technical Committee to decide on the appropriate percentage for oil producing states and areas destroyed by insurgency in the country.

This position of the Confab falls short of the expectations of the South South that the region would at least get a five percent increase in derivation from the present 13 per cent.
They have been agitating for an increase to at least 18 per cent.
The Eagle Online recalls that it was a battle between the South and the North on whether to increase the derivation or not, a development which forced the conference to adjourned abruptly twice.
Speaking on the position of the Consensus Group, the Chairman of Conference, retired Justice Idris Kutigi, said President Jonathan should set up technical committee to decide on the appropriate percentage for oil producing states and areas destroyed by insurgency in the country.
After the pronouncement of the Consensus Group’s resolution by Kutigi, delegates expressed divergent views on the position.
A South South activist, Ann Kio Briggs, expressed dissatisfaction with resolution of the Conference.
Briggs said it failed to address the problem of the Niger Delta people who have been clamouring for an increase in derivation to oil producing states.
Also, a former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba, said a technical committee will in the best position to determine the exact percentage of derivation that will go to oil producing states in the country.
Osoba added that the recommendations of the conference, if implemented, will go along way in developing the country.
http://theeagleonline.com.ng/derivation-confab-stands-on-13-pushes-increase-to-jonathan/

I don't think I need to go on about what the bold step should have been. He had almost a year to make sure he left a legacy for his kith and kin.

Pavarottii:

Why can't buhari implement it?
Why should he? What was wrong with Jonathan's hand? Or did the people in the North tell you derivation was one of the reasons they were screaming Sai Buhari?
If I recollect, their problems were Boko Haram and recovering from the self inflicted havoc in their region. In my opinion Buhari has addressed this in 2 years far better than Jonathan addressed any of his kinsmen issues.

Let's call a spade a spade and never use the word "bold" and "Jonathan" in the same sentence.

This man's and his followers stupidity knows no bounds.

I mean how can it be now that he has left the centre that he knows it is important for fiscal federalism??

Did this son of the creeks not know that the kinsmen he appointed to NDDC were doing nothing? Or is he saying they wanted to work but he gave them no money to work ?? Or did he need the northerners permission to sack his own kinsmen??

I never knew this useless ExPresident and Arsene Wenger have so much in common- when it is to late they shift goalposts and blame everyone for their failures except themselves!!

Don't worry GEJ, fiscally liberated Wike will come and tar the road leading to your village for you... don't go and beg that small boy Dickson who you installed and is now doing big boy for you. Mumu.

Anyway, I say this to you, the ANGER I saw from the LIBYANS beating and torturing him was REAL; which kind of reminded me of the JUBILATION and SHEER ECSTACY I saw displayed in Lagos when a certain DICTATOR, died in 1997.

It did not and still does not matter to us that Abacha kept the Naira stable at N40 =$1 for 5 years under the lowest oil prices; we still thank Baba God for delivering us from the psychopath, and no revisionism will ever change that.

Input it to you that you will soon see another outpouring of celebration again in the continent when that old shameless he-goat named Mugabe bites the dust..... you can then bring up a new post on how he single handedly won independence for them and bla bla bla...NONSENSE !!!!!!

For those against this mindset, would you allow an absent father take glory for your achievements in life? Nigeria was absent in this young man's life.

Let's calm down with all these Nigeria disowned him comments...... the truth is yes he is British born and yes Britain as a country has contributed to his success far more than Nigeria has.... but he has at least 75℅ Nigerian blood running in him and more importantly he is 100% proud of that fact.

Like a true African child, he always praises his family for all the support they gave him and even points to the fact that the tough love and a short stint in boarding school in Nigeria really shaped him.

So being Nigerian is a very important part of him (look at his arm) and his display of rare humility in his trade, a trait so culturally admired and treasured by we his kinsmen, can only make us identify with him more.

Captain Chinyere Kalu, first female pilot in Nigeria. The specifics of "commercial airline" was included to correct the erroneous info in the article that she was the first female fighter pilot. Nigerian airways was a commercial airline but not the only commercial airline. So just because Hadiza was the first female pilot to fly a Nigerian airways plane doesn't mean she was the first female to fly a plane in Nigeria. Do you understand now? Hadiza was still student in school when Captain Chinyere Kalu had been flying planes as a licensed commercial pilot.

Oga you are the one who needs to calm down and eat humble pie.

You keep stating she was the first commercial pilot and you have provided no evidence to prove so.

Everything so far states she was the first female in the country to qualify as a pilot and fly a plane, that does not in anyway make her the first female commercial pilot.

Just like cars on the road, licenses differ. Because I ride an okada on the road does not mean I can drive a car. Because I drive a car on the road does not mean I have the right, licence or experience to drive a BRT or Dangote truck.

In most English Speaking countries a commercial plane remain flights available to the general public to get them from A to Z. They are a generally a minimum size. Private jets and cargo jets are not commercial planes.

I have a feeling you know this but you insist your erroneous assertion to be proved right at all cost.

Like I said, the birthdate is a problem

http://www.nationalmirroronline.net/new/captain-chinyere-o-kalu-nigerias-first-female-pilot/

This suggests she got her flying license in 1978 and spent most of her career teaching.

This would thus not stop Hadiza from being the first commercial pilot in the 80's.

One example is Nameless from Kenya, he
released a Hit single in Kenya called Sinzia in

Central Africa & some parts of Southern Africa but
lo and behold it didnt even smell the shores of
Nigeria. Another example is d rampaging girl-

the African music scene in 2004 with their Hit
single ''Hitaji'' which ruled airwaves in East
Africa, Central Africa & Southern Africa. Though
some Nigerian radio stations played the song, it
didnt record any commercial success like it did in
other African countries. They released another
song in 2009 ''Where You Are'' ft Radio & Weasle
& it was a massive hit across Africa, it was also
number 2 on MTV Base African charts for weeks.
It was even played on MTV Europe. The farthest
they broke into West Africa was Ghana but never
Nigeria. There are other Hit songs by artistes
from East Africa that recorded so much success
around Africa but they did not make any impact in
Nigeria. Hit songs like Gold Digger by Jackie
Chandiru from Uganda, Siamini by TID from

etc.... I happen to know about these songs cos

origin & i research very well too. Language is
neva a barrier to me. So my question is ''What do
u think is limiting these good African artistes from
breaking into the lucrative Nigerian music
market''? Is it language barrier, finances or what?
From what i discovered, artistes from East African
countries & Africa in general believes dat to break
into Mainstream Music in Africa, u have to
conquer Nigeria first which is true... So
nairalanders, spill ur opinions. Its all welcomed

The picture below is the Blu 3 girls from Uganda.

Also the fact that in those climes, naija music rules the airwaves shows their artist need to improve like the South Africans have.

A Blackman is just generally attracted to good sound, it's like a moth to a flame.( btw who remembers Chapelle's skit on what makes good sound to whites and blacks? one of the funniest and truest skits ever!)

The picture below is the Blu 3 girls from Uganda.

Very poor analysis, you should have asked the real question you wanted to which is "why do East African pop artistes fail to chart in Nigeria" and the simple answer to that is they are not very good.

I base my answer on the fact that good music has always been appreciated in this country, no matter where the owner is from. Highlife mainly from outside Nigeria (Ghana) ruled pre independence. Shortly after our local folk artistes improved and they ruled the airwaves till the early 80s. From then on, like the rest of the black world, we were enraptured by the great sound of black America. In the 90s our local artist refused to improve or tried too closely to mimic hip hop, RnB and reggae dancehall that ruled that era. But by the late 90s when the quality of makosa was too good we were swept of our feet and danced to songs we never knew the meaning of. It continued like that till the early 2000s when our naija hip hop artists improved their game, localised their sounds and now they are the bee's knees everywhere.

The Blackman and especially Nigerians appreciate good music no matter the language barrier- this evidenced by the fact that in a country of 200 languages, everyone still dances to the Yoruba influenced hip hop sound though they don't understand the language. Phyno's track was the biggest last year and it's not because we are all Igbo or Christian- it's simply a hot song! When it comes to football and music, Nigerians stop seeing tribe.

The honest truth is if your East African friends improve their game, we will listen to them just like the way we still play the really good south African dance acts/ folk music and Ghana has secretly invaded our airwaves again using our son as their General! it's so funny isn't it.

Now you all want to change the story and paint your Moronic hero in Otuoke a hater of corruption! Why did he not sack Yakubu when a whole CBN governor told him 20billion was missing! Do we really have to bring out the articles where your President said that was not possible and Yakubu sided with him.

You are all just a lazy hopeless bunch. Imagine, you always say Lai Mohammed speaks for APC and Lai=APC, yet the meanderings of some nameless youth wing from southern Kaduna now represent APC fighting for Yakubu shey- God will continue to confuse all of you and keep allowing you all to expose your ignorance like Nnamdi Kanu's wife who claimed Oliver Cromwell brought democracy to England!! Bunch of illiterates!

Politics / Re: Reno Omokri Reacts To Andrew Yakubu Loot by samstradam: 10:09pm On Feb 11, 2017
This Reno is becoming a bloody nuisance with his army of lazy idiots who take his every word as gospel.

GEJ did not fire him for corruption and I challenge anyone to bring out a story that confirms this. The only person in his regime that could have been said to have lost their job due to corruption was Stella Oduah- and she was never charged or investigated by the EFCC.

When a President takes stealing seriously he ensures prosecution - this can be seen by what happened to all the service chiefs, Dasuki, Supreme Court Judges and useless permanent secretaries this government has relieved and are currently dealing with.

Yes, as long as the likes of Babchir Lawal stay in government they remain a huge stain on Buhari's anti corruption fight, but it is at least a fight! Unlike what we witnessed from the idiot of Otuoke who allowed everyone to loot our limited resources without a struggle or consequence in mind.
