PoliticsSell Helicopter To Pay Workers, PDP Tells Aregbesola by samueld0(op): 4:28pm On Jun 07, 2015
Peoples Democratic Party has advised Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, to sell the helicopter purchased for security surveillance and stop “wasteful spending” in order to raise money to pay salaries of workers in the state.
The Director of Media and Strategy of the PDP in Osun State, Mr. Diran Odeyemi, gave this advice in a statement made available to our correspondent in Osoogbo on Sunday.
The statement read, “The PDP is urging  the government to sell the helicopter Governor Aregbesola said was procured for the state and he should stop frivolous trips to Cuba.
“What  this administration told us was that the helicopter was to be used for surveillance, but we have since discovered that the machine is only serving the traveling needs of Mr. Aregbesola and his family. This remains one draining pipe that must be blocked.
“The governor and his aides should also forthwith stop traveling in chartered aircraft around the world. If President Muhammadu Buhari could be traveling on British Airways, even when aircrafts in Presidential fleet are available, there is need for Governor Aregbesola to borrow a leaf.”
The opposition party  also accused the governor of  wasting the the state’s resources on politics and arming of a group of youth he called “State Boys.”
The PDP called on the new members of the Osun State House of Assembly not to turn themselves to rubber stamp of the executive arm of the government.
According to the party, the people of the state now place their hope on the lawmakers to check the ‘excesses of the governor’  in the interest of the masses.
The statement read further, “It is also fresh in our minds, the huge amount Ogbeni Aregbesola expended on the last Ekiti governorship poll, Lagos governorship poll, and the Presidential project of the All Progressive Congress, APC.
“Also, a group of miscreants called ‘State Boys’ are being illegal armed and financed by government to unleash terror on many indigenes of the state by the ruling party.
“All these actions and many other wasteful spending led us to where we are now, which if they could be reversed, could bring financial reserves for the state.
“But if Ogbeni Aregbesola will not treat this advise with disdain, and henceforth, begin to act as governor of all, we believe at least, he will be able to pay few months of the backlog of salaries owed workers and retirees.”
However, the governor described the suggestions and  allegations from the opposition party as infantile.
Speaking through a statement issued by his media aide, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, Aregbesola said the PDP was just seeking cheap publicity with their suggestions and spurious allegations.
The statement read, “It is disheartening this is how degenerate PDP has become in their thinking process. They screamed ignorantly about two years ago that Osun procured a helicopter with a sum of N8 billion. We had asked them to find out the cost of a Boeing plane let alone a helicopter which was only leased and it was to beef up the Osun Swift Action Squad for its aerial surveilance. This was clear to all in the state that the helicopter was procured as part of the Rauf Aregbesola administration’s comprehensive security measures to drive criminals far away from the state.
“For the PDP in its narrow thinking to tell us to sell the helicopter is a sign of intellectual laziness. The allegations that Aregbesola uses the helicopter for his personal use lack any evidence.
“It is obvious the PDP, after it has reached its final bus stop of defeat rigmarole, as typified by the Supreme Court decision of May 27, is merely looking for something to keep it relevant.
“The people of Osun need adequate security which PDP failed to provide throughout Nigeria in its 16 years of misrule. The People of Osun require good governance which the PDP could not give  them. I therefore advise that shameful lies such as those Odeyemi cooked up again and threw to the media would not help the party. They would help sink it deeper.”

Op, as someone into football blogging, i will say that your match preview sucks. A little research could have helped. *at the Taranki stadium* not inside. Anyway, my money is on Nigeria to win the tournament. That could be possible if they qualify out of the group. The lads from Hungary are no minnows but i expect the likes of iheanacho to make a mincemeat of them. I'm not raising my hopes though, cause this Nigerian teams know how to throw the spanner into their works when it matters most.
Thanks man. I will make Use of your advise and correction neXt time

The coach doesn't know anything abt the Brazilian team? Where did u get that from? Didn't they take part in South American qualifiers? Are those clips nt available? Not that he didnt know d Brazilians, he underated them.

C, the problem with this team is that Manu Garba is confused on how to manage the "big" players in the team.
After the Europe based boys arrived the team did nt play any friendlies. That squad against Brazil was like a gamble. For eg the team typically plays 4-5-1 bt jst to accommodate success and Awoniyi he played 4-4-2 thereby depleting the midfield. Iheanacho and Yahaya have been away from d team for some time, these are more like forwards bt d coach played them in thé mid field. The formation practically turned out to be 4-2-4 cos Nacho and Yahaya were making several attempts at goal without falling back to support the 2 Ifeanyis in d midfield. The Brazilians exploited our lean mid field and that gave them d edge.

U can see in d game against Korea the coach fell back to his traditional 4-5-1 & didnt start Nacho & Yahaya. In addition we played with two blocking 4 i.e Idowu and Ifeanyi.

Now when we were already 3-0 up he brought in Yahaya and Success jst to c if he can build on the 4-4-2 he attempted against Brazil.
Your points are noted sir. But note- I didn't say that Coach Garba dosn't watch their clip at the south America qualifire, am sure he did. But the Brazilina team that played at the south American Qualifire is totaly deferent from this ones, remember the coach was sacked 2 months before the turnament and the current one was appointed. The formal Brazil team that was condemed becouse of their defenssive style of play at the South America qualifire turnament. Manu Played all is attacks thinking the Brazilians would want to play their previous defensive style, but unfurtunatly they saw another deferent team on the field.

Maybe but Isaac Success deserve to start ahead of Awoniyi........Akinjide Idowu is doing good Job in that mildfield,he is better than the injured Ifeanyi matthew.
The double pivots of Idowu and Mathew will be beter

Mathew can assist and score long range shots from outside the Box like Lampard he is also good at counter attack long balls, but Ifeanyi Ifeanyi is not good at that

I am nt saying this Flying Eagles team is not good. What i have been saying is they are over hyped. The thread u quoted from was created abt 2-3months ago and i was only highlighting the posibble inclusions into the AYC Flying Eagles.

And yes i have been following the WYC since 1985.
If you have been following this set of Under 20 team right from the super six turnament you will know they were not overhyped as you claim. What went wrong in our game against brazil was That the team don't know anything about the Brazilian team (the coach's foult) but they know much about us, the Brazilian game plan was unexpected by our team so it was a suprise for them.
But now as you can see the coach has learn his mistakes and you can see the result against Korea, the guyz are just geting beter, I hope you will see the beter side this team against Hungary.

Do u know that Siasia's boys played better than these Manu's boys? Not bc they lost to Brazil. I followed the Siasia's boys from AYC to WYC and i have been following these Manu's boys too.

Eg remember when Mikel was U20? Which of the current U20 midfielders passes the ball like Mikel?

Compare our defence: Mustapha Vs Taye Taiwo, Apam vs Ndidi, Adeleye vs Bello, Chinwo vs Mohammed.

Midfield: Keita vs Ifeanyi, Mikel vs Mathew

The only area this current flying Eagles are more gifted than Siasia's team is the attack. Eg comparing: Ogbuike, Abwo, Okoronkwo, Promise Vs Success, Awoniyi, Iheanacho, Yahaya, Bulbwa etc.

Plus Siasia's boys drew 0-0 with Brazil while Manu's boys lost 2-4 to same Brazil.

Personally I am yet to see this Manu's Flying Eagles as being better than Siasia's Flying Eagles.
Don't gudge this boy with just Brazil's Game

Statement of Military’s Response To Amnesty International Report
The Defence Headquarters has noted with dismay the gruesome allegations made by the Amnesty International against some senior military officers serving and retired of the Nigerian Armed Forces. It is unfortunate that all effort made in the allegation was geared towards continuation of blackmail against the military hierarchy in which the organisation had embarked upon as far back as the inception of military’s action against terrorist in the North East.
The officers mentioned in the report have no reason, whatsoever, to indulge in the allegation made against them. It is unfortunate that the organisation just went out to gather names of specified senior officers, in a calculated attempt to rubbish their reputation as well as the image of the military. The action, no doubt, depicts more of a premeditated indictment aimed at discrediting the country for whatever purpose.
Each of the previous allegations had been thoroughly responded to and cleared in the public and officially. The title down to the body of the allegation smacks of the extreme bias, which is disturbing coming from an otherwise reputable organisation that is expected to be Just and fair to all. Unfortunately in this case, has taken a premeditated position, which is far from noble.

Bodies of some terrorists killed in battle
It is curious that a body that has never been able to seriously condemn terror in Nigeria now claims to have done an extensive research with the aim of discrediting the nation’s effort at curtailing terror.
It is clear that Amnesty International (AI) becomes more active in presenting distractive allegations whenever the terrorists are losing ground in the battle. It is very unfortunate that Amnesty International has used this report to further confirm its questionable interest in the counter-terrorism effort in Nigeria.
It will be recalled that the Joint Investigation Team was set up by the Defence Headquarters as part and parcel of efforts to ensure that no detainee suffer unjustly. The detention facilities were thrown open for visits and inspections by independent bodies such as International Committee of the Red Cross and other reputable international organisations and personalities.
Amnesty International is advised to stop playing the role of an irritant coming up loudly only when the terrorists are losing out and remaining silent or complacent whenever the terrorist heightens its atrocities. It is unfair to persist in effort to discredit Nigerian military by seeking all avenues to stigmatise individual officers of the nation’s military purely to satisfy an agenda against the security agencies and image of Nigeria before the international community.
The Nigerian Armed Forces is quite conscious of the fact that the operation has prompted the need to save citizens from abuse of their rights by mindless terrorists. Accordingly, the forces have continued to state and restate its commitment to the rights of Nigerians and all its citizens while prosecuting its anti-terrorism campaign. It is very unfortunate that Amnesty International has chosen to ignore all the responses and clarifications provided to its enquires by the authorities.
It is unfair to rely on records or reports provided by certain disgruntled elements or faceless collaborators who have axe to grind with the system as evidence against officers who have been conscientiously doing their duty to defend the nation and her citizens.
For avoidance of doubt, the Nigerian military does not encourage or condone abuse of human rights neither will any proven case be left unpunished. The kind of impunity being alleged by Amnesty International has no place in the Nigerian military. Every officer in the field is responsible for his action and is duly held accountable. So far, no allegation has been sufficiently proved against those whom Amnesty International is so desperate to convict.
The statistics are largely spurious or manipulated to satisfy a clandestine motive. Indeed, the loud publicity given to these damning allegations suggests an intention to blackmail the military and particular senior officers rather than a sincere advise to the government. This cruel tendency is not new, despite the timing.
The Nigerian military therefore rejects the biased and concocted report provided by Amnesty International. Additional definite response will be provided subsequently as deemed necessary.
