Five reasons why Flying Eagles will prevail against Germany U20

Abuja - After relinquishing their unbeaten run to Brazil at the on-going FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand, Nigeria's Flying Eagles found themselves in a tight corner and suddenly it seems the promising lads are being written off.
Manu Garba's team went back to the drawing board and recorded impressive victories against North Korea and Hungary to set-up a mouthwatering second round tie with Germany.
The critics have advised the Flying Eagles to start booking their flight back home, but football is played on the pitch and not with mouth.
Nigeria will battle Germany in the round of 16 for a place in the quarter finals at the on Thursday.
Here is why we believe the reigning Orange African Youth Championship winners have plenty of reasons to believe and scale through.

1. Taiwo Awoniyi

The Imperial Academy striker may not have found target in the opening two games, but that did not stop him from giving his best in the match against Hungary and he bagged a brace. He was a key component in the Flying Eagles team that conquered Africa. Awoniyi is an asset any club in Europe would covet. His form will be crucial for the Flying Eagles to zoom past the Germans.

2. Less Pressure

Manu's boys were on a roller coaster before the World Cup started and now the pressure on them had reduced since the loss to Brazil. Now that pundits have ruled them out of reckoning, they will need to get the goals that routinely brings result. The weight of expectation is now off their shoulders and the Flying Eagles will be expected to use their skills to their advantage, easing the psychological pressure on them.

3. Sharp Wingers

it’s no longer news that the Flying Eagles have some of the best wingers around in the tournament. The likes of Godwin Saviour, Bernard Bulbwa and Moses Simon can't be deemed as pushovers in terms of destroying the opposition with their deft touches. The world saw the quality of Godwin and Bulbwa in the Group matches, but another explosion in the team is Simon.

4. Flying Eagles' Technical Crew

Much has been made of Manu Garba and his backroom staff. Garba and his backroom staff are hardly novices. They know what it takes to thrive under pressure. They will scale through the hurdle. The great character and much like recent turnaround, can serve as a confidence booster to them.

5. We Defeated German Sides in Warm Up Games

Another advantage that will work in Flying Eagles' favour is for the fact that they thrashed German sides in friendly games. They U23 sides of Nurnberg, Hoffenheim and Freiburg were on the receiving of thrashing from the Nigeria U20 side. They boys already know what to expect from the U20 side of Germany.

HealthDoctors Remove 420 Kidney Stones In Man's Stomach Due Tofu Diet by samueld0(op): 7:19pm On Jun 09, 2015
Abuja - Doctors in China removed 420 kidney stones inside a 55-year-old man's stomach due to his tofu diet, MirrorUK reported.
It is alleged that the man had complained of pain from his stomach but could not source what the problem was until he had surgery of which doctors discovered the kidney stones.

The man's diet consisted of a large amount of high protein tofu and was not consuming any water. His body could not excrete the food as there was insufficient water intake.
He now keeps the stones as a souvenir to remind himself to drink water.

PoliticsBuhari Reacts To Emergence Of Speaker, Senate President by samueld0(op): 6:33pm On Jun 09, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari has said that though he would have preferred that the process of electing the leaders as initiated and concluded by the All Progressives Congress (APC) had been followed, he was ready to work with the leadership of the National Assembly that emerged on Tuesday.

In his reaction to the election of Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara as the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively, President Buhari said that “a constitutional process has somewhat occurred”.

Buhari’s position which was conveyed in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adeshina reiterated that his earlier statement that he had no preferred candidates in the election of the President of Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives still stands.

MOHAMMADU BUHARI

The statement reads:
“President Muhammadu Buhari has noted the outcome of the just-concluded election of leaders of the National Assembly.
“A statement issued by the Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) said the president would rather that the process of electing the leaders as initiated and concluded by the All Progressives Congress (APC) had been followed. Nonetheless the President took the view that a constitutional process has somewhat occurred.

“President Buhari had said in an earlier statement that he did not have any preferred candidate for the Senate and the House of Representatives, and that he was willing to work with whoever the lawmakers elected. That sentiment still stands.
“Though he would have preferred the new leaders to have emerged through the process established by the party”.

Adesina stressed that the stability of our constitutional order and overall interest of the common man were uppermost on the President’s mind, as far as the National Assembly elections were concerned.

The President called on all the elected representatives of the people to focus on the enormous task of bringing enduring positive change to the lives of Nigerians.

PoliticsAregbesola Dares SDP To Publish His Assets by samueld0(op): 8:40am On Jun 09, 2015
OSOGBO—Osun State governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola has dared the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in the state to go ahead and make public his assets.

Aregbosola
The party had said that the governor should declare his assets publicly without delay or it will be forced to publish what it knows about his alleged massive wealth.
SDP described Aregbesola’s defence on how he spent several billions of the state funds as a mere rhetoric, laughable and inconsistent going by the facts in its possession.
The SDP said it has conducted its private investigations and discovered how the governor allegedly acquired enormous assets in the last four years in a state where millions are living in abject poverty.
The Chairman of the party, Mr. Ademola Ishola in his speech during the party’s Performance Assessment meeting held in Osogbo at the weekend to deliberate on how SDP performed in the last National Election said what his party uncovered about Aregbesola’s wealth would stun Nigerians.
But Aregbesola in a statement by Semiu Okanlawon, Director, Bureau of Communication and Strategy, Office of the Governor, Osogbo, stated that SDP was looking for things to hold on to ”so as to be relevant”.
The statement read in part: “Our attention has been drawn to a statement said to have been issued by the Social Democratic Party in Osun where it asked the Governor of Osun Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola to publicly declare his assets.
“The SDP is obviously looking for things to hold on to in order to be relevant for the party was not the one that asked Aregbesola to fulfil the constitutional duty of declaring his assets before and after his first term”.
“The SDP and it’s leaders cer

PoliticsG7: France, Canada, Germany Back Buhari On Fight Against Boko Haram by samueld0(op): 6:02pm On Jun 08, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday in Elmau at the G-7 summit, Germany,  reaffirmed his administration’s total commitment to ending Boko Haram’s insurgency in the shortest time possible. This is containded in a news release issued by the Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to the President, Malam Garba Shehu.

Germany 7: President Muhammadu Buhari in a group picture at the Munich residence. In the picture are Prime Minister Haile Mariam Desalgn of Ethiopia, President Macky Sall of Senegal, President Ellen Sirleaf of Liberia, Secretary General of the UN, Mr. Ban ki Moon, Minister-President of the State of Bavaria, Mr Horst Seehofer, Chairperson AU commission, Mrs Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, President of World Bank, Dr. Jim Yong Kim and others.
The release said Buhari made the pledge at a meeting with President Francois Hollande of France after his participation in Monday’s G-7 Outreach Programme. According to the release, Buhari said that Nigeria will welcome greater support and cooperation from France and other friendly nations for its ongoing efforts to overcome Boko Haram and restore normalcy to areas affected by the group’s atrocities.
The President said at the G-7 that his administration was already taking concrete action to build a more efficient and effective coalition of Nigeria and neighbouring countries against Boko Haram. Nigeria, he said, would appreciate more intelligence on the terrorist group’s links with ISIS, movements, training and its sources of arms and ammunition.
This, according to him, is to facilitate the perfection of fresh tactics and strategies being evolved to overcome terrorism and insurgency in the country and its sub-region. Buhari reiterated at the G-7 that there was absolutely no link between religion and the atrocities of Boko Haram.
“There is clearly no religious basis for the actions of the group. “Their atrocities show that members of the group either do not know God at all or they don’t believe in Him,” Buhari said.
In his remarks, President Hollande commended President Buhari’s concerted efforts to galvanize Nigeria’s armed forces, security agencies and neighouring countries for more decisive action to eradicate Boko Haram. The French leader assured Buhari at the G-7 that France would give Nigeria and its coalition partners greater support against terrorism and insecurity, including military and intelligence cooperation.
He said the support was to help them to overcome the security challenge posed by Boko Haram and its global terrorist allies as quickly as possible. He also called for greater bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and France in other areas including trade, economic and cultural relations.
The release added that Buhari also received similar pledges of enhanced support from Prime Minister Stephen Harper of Canada and Chancellor Angela Merkel who he also conferred with before departing from the venue of the G-7 2015 Summit. The President is due back in Abuja early Tuesday.

Flying Eagles coach confident ahead Germany tie

Wellington - Nigeria U20 head coach Manu Garba believes his side are more than capable of beating Germany to book a place in the last-eight of the U20 World Cup in New Zealand.
After losing their opening game of the tournament to Brazil, the Flying Eagles bounced back superbly with wins over North Korea and Hungary to qualify for the knockout stage of the competition where they will face in-form Germany.
The German side is unbeaten so far in the competition and has scored 16 goals in their three games, but Garba is not intimidated by their European opponents.
Also read: Manu Garba admits his team is yet to hit top form
"If you want to be champions, you have to be ready for any team. So, we are prepared for Germany or any other team because we want to win this World Cup," he told African Football.
"The most important thing right now is that after losing to Brazil, we have come back to qualify for the next round of the tournament.
"Overall, it was a good game for us. We knew Hungary will try to use the wings and pull out their balls from there, but we stopped them from playing.
"I would probably have been happier had we scored more goals."
