The speaker of osun state house of assembly Honorable Najeem Salaam, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to bail out states that are unable to pay their workers’ salaries and pensions.

The Speaker said this on Friday in a statement issued by his media aide, Mr. Goke Butika, to congratulate the President and his Vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo ( SAN).

He said the bailout would allow the masses at the grassroots to feel the impact of the new government.

The Speaker said many states had not been paying their workers regularly due to the drastic reduction in their allocations because of the drop in the oil price, adding that the states needed the Federal Government’s assistance to solve the problem.

The statement read, “The fixing of Nigeria should begin with the bailing out of the states that could not pay salaries so that people at the grassroots can have a sigh of relief.

“It will go a long way for the Buhari presidency to have a consultative meeting with all governors and listen to them with a view to developing a road map that would facilitate mutual solutions to the challenges facing the states.”

Salaam also urged governors irrespective of their political parties to key into the programmes of the new President.

He expressed satisfaction with Buhari’s inaugural speech, noting that the speech touched all spheres of governance and was loaded with hope.

Manchester City starlet Kelechi Iheanacho gave by far the most serious warning to Brazil ahead of an U20 World Cup showdown on Monday after he fired a hat-trick in Thursday’s training.

Iheanacho, playing behind strikers Taiwo Awoniyi and Isaac Success, opened scoring for what looked like the starting XI for Monday’s showdown against Brazil with a superb, left-footed, half-volleyed goal from the top of the box.

“It was pure magic!” saluted NFF executive committee member Ahmed Yusuf ‘Fresh’, who watched the training.

“What a goal! Iheanacho is something special,” praised Fernando Zurro, who came down to do special interviews with the team for FIFA TV.

Rivers State governor, Chibuike Amaechi said his party, All Progressives Congress, APC, will get justice and retrieve the River State’s governorship mandate from his successor, Nyesom Wike at the election tribunal.

Amaechi made the remarks at a special thanksgiving service to mark his 50th birthday organised by his friends at Corpus Christi Cathedral in Port Harcourt on Wednesday while responding to an appeal from the Catholic Bishop of Port Harcourt Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Camillus Etukudor  to settle  the row between him and Wike.
The Catholic Bishop had congratulated the governor- elect, Wike, for his electoral victory and urged both former politicians to settle their differences.
He said: “As for the outgoing governor and the in-coming governor, I urge them to work together so that there will be peace. We need peace in Rivers State.
“There can be no reconciliation without forgiveness. There will be no peace without reconciliation. So, it is time for the out-going governor and the in-coming governor to reconcile so that peace will return to Rivers State.
“No matter their differences they should reconcile in the interest of peace.”
But Amaechi insisted that justice must be seen to have been done before he can think of forgiving and settling with Wike, who was his former Chief of Staff, Government House, from 2007 to 2011.
Wike, who Governor Amaechi recommended for a ministerial appointment was later appointed Minister of State for Education, a position from which he resigned to contest for the governorship of the state.
Amaechi said: “My Lordship talked about forgiveness. In the Catholic Church, you don’t oppose the views of your bishop. His words represent an order. If you oppose him you may be barred from taking Holy Communion.
“You are not a true Catholic if you don’t receive the Holy Communion. But Your Lordship, the same Catholic doctrine also states that justice comes before forgiveness.”
He added: “All those that were killed during the last general elections must get justice. Their families must get justice. Our party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, must get justice first at the petition election tribunal. Our mandate must be retrieved at the tribunal.
“I am surprised that My Lordship congratulated Wike here today. I am using this opportunity to call on the Church to join the APC in praying to God so that we can reclaim our mandate. Reclaiming our mandate at the petition election tribunal will represent a measure of justice. We must seek justice before reconciliation.
In attendance at the event were APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun; Governor Adams Oshiomole of Edo State; former governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi; former governor of Rivers State, Chief Rufus Ada-George; Alabo Graham-Douglas; retired Adolphous Justice Karibi- Whyte, Senator Ararume, among others.

Manu: Iheanacho, Success And Simon Are Too Important To Be Dropped

Flying Eagles coach Manu Garba has allayed fears that Kelechi Iheanacho, Isaac Success and Moses Simon would be found wanting at the FIFA U20 World Cup after they all failed to make the team’s training camp in Germany.

All three players were busy with their respective clubs, hence their failure to make the Germany training camp, but made the final list of 21 and Manu has explained why he included all three players in his team despite his earlier stance that he won’t include players that didn’t make the Germany training camp.

“I said that because the players who have been training with us understand our philosophy and have undergone all the trainings, but you can’t take away anything from Success, who is playing for a club like Granada and he is injury free and doing well.

“Moses is the most important player at Belgian club Gent. Kelechi has been on superb form. He is one player who can be relied upon if he is free of injury and I believe he has recovered from that injury.

“I believe their inclusion in the team will go a long way in adding more strength to the team,” he said.

Manu went on to state that he has no fears whatsoever, explaining that they already understand the team’s philosophy, but adds that none of them have an automatic starting berth.

“I don’t have any fear because these players have been with us. Even Moses Simon was with us in the early part of the U17 team before he went on to play for the U20 team. He may not know our philosophy, but for Kelechi and Success, they know how we play right from the U17s. Kelechi even played the qualifiers.

“But we are also not saying these players will come in automatically to the first team, they will be coming in gradually for them to find a synergy with the other players.

Missing MR JOSEPH's updates

The duo of Gent’s Moses Simon and Granada's Isaac Success are in danger of missing Nigeria's opening game of the World Youth Championship owing to visa issues.

Both players sent their passport to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for a New Zealand visa to be issued to them in Abuja but they received their passport yesterday without the visa in them.

Kelechi Iheanacho of Manchester City is already in the team hotel in New Plymouth as he came in ahead of the travelling contingent from Germany.

On Success and Simon the NFF have expedited action on their case and the duo are set to be offered visas which will only be ready on Thursday at the earliest. With Nigeria scheduled to play her first game of the tournament on the 1st of June (next Monday) the duo are in a race to be available for the Brazil game.

A top source in the team made this known to SL10.ng and even though, according to him, Success and Moses are pivotal to the team they are confident of getting a result against Brazil in their opening game as the players on ground are good enough to execute the game.

Nigeria is still looking for its first win over Brazil at the U20 level and they are hopes that the Manu Garba lead team will break the jinx.

The All Progressives Congress  in Ekiti State has challenged Governor Ayodele Fayose to explain‎ how hoodlums could break the security checkpoints in Ado-Ekiti to burn down Oja Oba, the largest market in the town, the night he imposed a curfew.
The party wondered why the arson took place despite the presence of hundreds of security agents deployed in the state capital to maintain vigil to ward off criminal activities
 
The state Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, in a statement on Monday said the puzzle must be resolved against insinuations that the arson had the imprints of government-sponsored sabotage.
 
“We want to know how the heart of town where the market is located and which was bombarded by hundreds of armed security agents‎ to maintain law and order, could be attacked at midnight razing that magnificent market without the security agents raising a finger.
“More shocking is the scale of damage done to the market, which suggests that the operation was not carried out in a hurry and could not have been carried out by a single person,” he said.
 
Olatubosun said it was suspicious that streetlights along major roads leading to the market went off as early as 8pm that night. 
“We have noticed that whenever streetlights go off early like that, an untoward event would follow just as it happened when the APC secretariat at Ajilosun was attacked by suspected hoodlums from the government house. 
“The inability of the Fayose administration to service the streetlights on major roads in the capital is a deliberate ploy to create a conducive atmosphere for government sponsored hoodlums to operate.”
The party sympathised with hapless market men and women who lost goods worth millions of Naira in the inferno as well as other ethnic groups who lost valuables in the market.  

Fayose in his reaction through his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, said he was “not prepared to respond to every senseless outburst of Ekiti APC.
“Doing so is to descend to their level of mediocrity and joblessness. We are much concerned with providing good governance to Ekiti people. This is our focus.
“How can we be responding to utterances of idle minds who don’t have any job to do except to want to cause distraction with lies. Let them go and assist their brother governors in other states grappling with problem of workers strike over months of unpaid salaries.”
