PoliticsRe: Fayemi At 56: Roles He Played In Ekiti And National Politics by SandraJane: 7:52am On Feb 02, 2021
sojiboy:
Fayemi at 56... Courageous Warrior who chooses his battles carefully
Little wonder Yoruba says, Moja Mosa la un mo akinkanju, Akinkanju to ba Moja, ti o Send Prayer Request Mosa, iru won lo un bo'Ogun lo (literally, a warrior chooses his battle wisely).

He fought for almost three years before retrieving the mandate freely given to him by Ekiti Kete and was sworn in as Governor on Oct 16, 2010. His days in office throughout the constitutionally approved 4years of stay in office didn't come without different challenges; but he selected his battles and conquered whichever he set out for. Most notable of the battles is his re-election in 2014, where he accepted electoral results and concede defeat to former Governor Ayodele Peter Fayose, despite having the knowledge of the electoral fraud perpetrated without recourse to war in the state.

He left Ekiti State only to be saddled with the management of the presidential primary election of the APC as Chairman and the shadow election which was free and fair produced Buhari as the party’s flag bearer. This didn't come without a fight - for him to compromise electoral results for the then moneybags in APC but his discipline and determination to be an unbiased umpire, carved a niche for him as the very first Nigerian who conducted presidential primaries without rancor within the party. Erelu's husband, Fayemi, came out triumphantly as he was celebrated across the globe for the exceptional record making and breaking. Despite the efforts of powers that be to exempt him from the 2015 Buhari presidential campaign committee, Buhari insisted on Fayemi's inclusion in the campaign team, which made JKF the head of the Strategic and Planning Team of the campaign committee.

Did I forget to tell you that Fayemi was favourably positioned to run as Buhari’s running mate, there was a campaign of calumny against Fayemi by a group led by a notorious Ado man, where he used his pseudo-journo skills to downplay the popularity of Ilufemiloye in Ekiti and Southwest as a whole, but after a very deep negotiation, Fayemi who knew when to and not to Send Prayer Request fight, gave in to even lesser opinion not because he wasn't eminently qualified but saw the battle to wrestle power from the then Pdp led Govt more important than anything agreed to let go.

After the NOW CALLED ABUJA BOYS, where denied the Vice Presidential ticket, Osinbajo was brought in. This didn't come as easy as thought, because the Abuja boys also fought many underground battles to deny THE CAPO Dei Capi of the same Ticket; but for the bigger war ahead against PDP, they conceded the ticket to him but not to his person. Still Fayemi was in the Strategic and Planning Committee of the election, which President Goodluck Jonathan will never forget anytime soon.

After Buhari's victory in the 2015 election, the battle of who becomes what started and either by choice or by force, Fayemi was the centre of the noise especially from the southwest and Ekiti in particular. Different political names sprang up to be appointed as Minister from the state when Fayemi a former Gov, Chairman Apc presidential primary election and Chairman strategic and planning committee was tactically downplayed by Judas and Spoilers of the State but Buhari being so sure of the stuff the war expert (JKF) is capable of, against all odds appointed Fayemi as Minister for Mines & Steels. Did the Battle end there? NO, did Fayemi despite all the challenges fight back? NO, he conserved his energy for bigger battles; little wonder he won the Ekiti 2018 Apc primary election effortlessly despite being the last contestant to show interest in less than 3 months of the said election. After the primaries, the Chief Strategist made peace with his co-contestants in less than 15 days and got set to wrestle power from the PDP in the State, and the rest is story today. Fayemi was sworn in for the second time as the 3rd democratically elected Governor on the 16th of Oct 2018.

The battle didnt end there, as the legal battle between him and Eleka of PDP lasted for a while. That of Engr. Segun Oni didn't conquer him; local and national politics got his name in almost every politics (local, regional and national). The contest for Nigerian Governors Forum came; Fayemi won the contest unchallenged, as Mallam El-Rufai of Kaduna, who happens to be his close friend stepped down to make Fayemi the NGF Chairman.

The agitation for the creation of Southwest Security Network codenamed "Amotekun" was a fight of point of duty after the NGF Election, where Fayemi talked tough, challenged the presidency and the Nigeria Police Force on the need to protect our region. He didn't shy away from the fact that he had northern friends who saw the creation of Amotekun as a threat to their kinsmen in the southwest, as much as nothing will kill the lofty dream of Amotekun. Fayemi thus reassured the safety of law abiding citizens irrespective of the tribe, colour, language or even nationality. Akeredolu despite preparing to slug out his second term ambition as Ondo state Govenor, gave all his best; likewise Makinde the only PDP governor in southwest.

Fayemi as a warrior took the battle ground to Ondo state where his long time friend Akeredolu contested his second term, despite all threats from opposition both within and outside APC family, Fayemi with the support of other of his APC colleagues and the overwhelming votes of the masses, secured victory for Aketi as second term Govenor of the Sunshine state. I deliberately skipped the APC Party Chairmanship, as though Oshiomole keeps fingering Fayemi as one of the Governors who wanted him to fall, Fayemi had severally denied his involvement in Oshiomole's plight, but for the fact that Oshiomole lost out and he claimed Fayemi is the arrowhead, shall we not call him a warrior?

Fayemi was among many, who fought for Nigeria's democracy through the creation of "Radio Kudirat" to amplify the voice of the voiceless, and many of these stories are flying around the internet, but my concentration is the latest.

At 56, Fayemi has fought battles selectively and you will agree with me that his name has been dragged into the 2023 Presidential election by many political analysts as he is seen to be qualified for the number one political office of the country. As much as I am not in any position to determine whether he should contest or not, since the world has seen the potential in him, I will advise the governor of Ekiti State with the popular German writer- Bertolt Brecht's quote, which says "If you fight, you might win; if you don’t, you have already lost." But the, the victory of Progressives in the Ekiti 2022 elections will determine how easy 2023 pendulum will swing in favour of Dr. John Kayode Fayemi.

PoliticsObasanjo: With State Police, Amotekun Won’t Be Necessary by SandraJane(op): 6:56am On Feb 02, 2021
FORMER President Olusegun Obasanjo has thrown his weight behind the call for state police, saying the country is ripe for such a change.

While insisting that there were different views on restructuring, he said there was the need for devolution of powers, responsibilities and resources to allow for healthy competition among states.

Obasanjo spoke on Sunday during a virtual interview hosted by a historian and columnist, Toyin Falola.

The former president had rejected calls for state police, saying it was not right for the country.

He was quoted to have said such would take the country back to the 1950s.

However, during the interview, Obasanjo supported a statement credited to the Governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku, that the country would know no peace until it instituted state police.

“Why can’t we now have state police? I have been to a country like Colombia, in the last five years, at least a dozen times. They did exactly what we did. They moved from local and state police to national police. But now, they have gone back to state police or provincial police. Why can’t we do that? If we do that, there will be no need for Amotekun.

“The Federal Government can have mobile police and station them in strategic places, and only deploy when the state governor requires for it,” Obasanjo added.

He also queried the involvement of the Federal Government in secondary schools and agriculture, saying such responsibilities should be given to states.

Senate panel considering state police

Meanwhile, the Senate Committee on Constitution Review is considering the bill sponsored by a former deputy president of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, as part of the amendments to the 1999 Constitution.

The Media Adviser to the former DSP, Uche Anichukwu, confirmed to our correspondent on Monday that Ekweremadu’s bill on state police was among the proposals being considered by the Senate panel.

He said, “The former DSP, who is also playing a major role in the Senate Constitution Review Committee actually sponsored a bill on state police. His bill and others are being considered by the committee at the moment.”

CrimeTricycle Rider Commits Suicide On Football Pitch In Lagos by SandraJane(op): 6:44am On Feb 02, 2021
A widow, Nike Adekola, is yet to recover from the shock of losing her husband, Suleman, who reportedly committed suicide by drinking a local insecticide in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Suleman, a tricycle operator, rode his tricycle to a football pitch on Abaranje Road in Ikotun, where he allegedly consumed the substance.

A few minutes after drinking the chemical, the 45-year-old was said to have died in his tricycle.

Passersby, including residents, were said to have raised the alarm after seeing Suleman motionless in his vehicle.

His friend, Mutiu Olayiwola, who spoke to PUNCH Metro, said people alerted the police after the corpse was found.

He said, “We have been friends for over 28 years. I was at home when I received a call from his colleagues that he had committed suicide. How his colleagues got to know was that when people saw his body inside his tricycle parked on the football pitch, they went to the tricycle operators’ park to inform them that one of their colleagues had died.

“His colleagues rushed to the football pitch, saw his corpse in his tricycle and also confirmed that he was attached to their park.

“It is surprising that he committed suicide. He never complained that he was going through any challenges. In fact, one of our brothers saw him around 5pm on that day and they had a brief chat; he never complained of anything and that is why we are surprised.”

The deceased’s wife, Nike, while lamenting the circumstances surrounding the death, said her two children had stopped schooling due to the incident.

She said, “Everything is still confusing to me. I saw his dead body. I also saw the bottle of the insecticide he consumed. He drank half of the content of the bottle, covered the remaining and dropped it. I don’t know why he took his life.

“We have two children who have stopped schooling after he died; people who have been paying us condolence visits are the ones giving us money to feed. We want Nigerians to come to our aid.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said no mark of violence was found on the corpse.

Adejobi said, “On January 18, 2021, around 11.31pm, one Abdullahi Ajayi, came to the station and reported that he received a call that one Suleman Adekola, 45, committed suicide by taking an insecticide while sitting in a tricycle near a football field along Abaranje Road in Ikotun. We visited the scene of the incident and observed no mark of violence on his body. Investigation is in progress.”

CrimeAngela Ozioko: Goddy Nnadi Brought SARS Who Shot My Son by SandraJane(op): 6:43am On Dec 16, 2020
A woman, Mrs Angela Ozioko, on Tuesday told the Enugu State Police Brutality and Extra-judicial Killings Panel how ex-state commissioner of finance, Goddy Nnadi, brought men of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad and shot her son, Emeka Ozioko, during a church ceremony and took away his body since December 4, 2011.

Ozioko told the panel that she had been crying for the past nine years over the disappearance of her son.

She said she visited many police stations and SARS office to look for her son, adding that none of the police formations had any record of her son’s arrest.

She urged the panel to unravel the mystery behind Emeka’s disappearance, adding that if he has been killed, those involved should be held to account.

She said “ Emeka Ozioko who was shot on December 4, 2011, around 3:30pm at Ohum Orba in the Udenu Local Government by operatives of the disbanded SARS, who took him away.

“Since then I have not seen him and none of police formation accepted that they know anything about his case. We went to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Enugu; we went to the office of the disbanded SARS, we went to Udenu Police Division and all of them refused us from entering their premises. They said they did not have any case like that in their stations.

“The day my son was shot was a big day in Ohum Orba because the indigenes of Orba who were appointed to different positions in the state by the then governor were celebrated. Only one Mass was celebrated at Patrick’s Catholic Church, Ohum Orba.”

She said although she was not at the church service, her son and husband was at the mass, before Emeka was called out on the telephone, shot and taken away by SARS men brought by Nnadi, who was among those being recognised.

“Around 7pm, my elder son called from where he was staying and told me that Emeka’s mobile phone was switched off. He told me to make enquires because people called him that the SARS men shot Emeka. We made enquiries and one man told my husband that my son was shot.

“Three days later, they brought youths that were equally arrested to court. They called their names but my son’s name wasn’t in the charge sheet and his name was not mentioned among those that were at large.

“I want to know whether my son who was shot in presences of many people and taken away for nine years now committed any offence by for coming to the celebration his community organised for its sons.

“”In 2017, after those that were arrested at that ceremony were released by the state government, we petitioned the Inspector-General of Police. Some policemen came from Abuja, took our statement and went back to Abuja. They invited him (Nnadi) to Abuja and afterwards our lawyer stopped answering our calls.”

Ex-commissioner demands N1b for son’s death

Similarly, a former Commissioner for Agriculture in Edo State, Dr Johnson Erimafa, asked the Edo panel to compel the police to pay him N1bn for the killing of his son a by a cop in 2003.

Erimafa, a retired Mathematics lecturer at the Ambrose Alli University, told the panel that his son, Paul Erimafa,18, was murdered by a happy-trigger police sergeant, Kalijaye, when he was on his way to watch the Big Brother Africa in a cyber cafe close to his house.

“The police abducted him at 8.30pm until 3am when they shot him dead in the front of the front of the house of the then Justice Constance Momoh. They said he a suspect. He was alone, he had no knife or gun but they killed him in the presence of the security details of the then Chief Justice

“I learnt that the boy struggled with him and raised the alarm which drew the attention of the security details that were at the CJ’s house. As my son started talking to the security details, Kalijaye, shot his legs.

“The policeman went to invite other members of his patrol team. He killed him when he came back with his team and found out that he was still alive.”

He said though no amount of money could compensate for the loss of his son, which eventually led to his wife divorcing him, the panel should order the government to pay him N1bn to assuage his pain.

CelebritiesI Have No Plan To Remarry - Angela Okorie by SandraJane(op): 4:06am On Dec 05, 2020
Actress and singer, Angela Okorie, has said she does not intend to get married again.

Recall that some months ago, there had been rumours that she was engaged to a young lover. But it turned out that the pictures that went viral then were from a music video for her new song, ‘Baby Chu Chu’. In an Instagram Live session with her fans, the mother of one stated that she was scared of entering into matrimony with another man. She said, “I’m so scared about marriage right now because I have once tasted it and I know what it feels like. I do not want to get myself into any marriage, then get divorced again. Nobody plans to get married and divorce their spouse but issues happen― lies and things one is not ready for. Nobody would want to leave a peaceful marriage but once it is not peaceful, one wouldn’t want to stay there. I wouldn’t advise anyone to be in an abusive marriage or a marriage that is not helping one’s mental status.”

Contrary to what some may have thought, the actress of Ebonyi State origins maintained that her first marriage was not abusive. She said,

“The man I got married to was not a bad man. He was a very nice guy with a good heart. But, he had his own problems that he needed to fix. It is not only about being nice; there are many things that come with marriage. One just has to marry one’s best friend; somebody one could tell everything. I don’t know how to hide things and I would not want to get married to a man I wouldn’t be able to talk to; or a man that would criticise my dressing. He should understand that I am a celebrity and that the person he is married to is outspoken. The best decision is for anybody to get married to a spouse who loves one, one’s kid, one’s job, and is always praying for one to get to the next level. Some people could be very possessive.

They could tell you their family is a royal one and because of that, they limit the types of role you could play in movies. You cannot marry a career woman and keep her in the house. If you want to get married to someone, you should love what they do and invest in it.

If you invest in your spouse and show them a lot of love, I don’t think any woman would cheat on such a man, except the stupid ones. I never cheated on my man though I meet different men and they ask me out every time.”
