Crime / Femi Salau, BDC Operators Arrested Over ₦1.868 Billion Scam by SandraJane: 6:53am On Aug 13, 2021
A suspected hacker, Femi Salau, has been arrested by the police Special Fraud Unit in Lagos State for allegedly hacking into the system of a first generation bank to defraud it of about N1.868bn.

Two Bureau De Change operators, who allegedly acted as Salau’s accomplices to perpetrate the fraud, were also nabbed.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Salau was arrested for allegedly using a software to create fictitious credits totalling N1,868,900,000, which he deposited into the accounts of some of the affected bank’s customers.

The spokesman for the SFU, Eyitayo Johnson, said in a statement on Thursday that Salau successfully made debits amounting to N417,542,000 through Internet banking transfers to other banks.

He stated that the affected bank petitioned the unit and its operatives contacted the Central Bank of Nigeria and Deposit Money Banks, whose customers were beneficiaries of the fraudulent funds, and they were able to recover a substantial amount.

He said, “Operatives of the Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi, Lagos, have arrested one Femi Salau, the kingpin of a syndicate that specialises in hacking into the servers of banks and corporate agencies.

“The hacker, who displayed exemplary mastery of the cyber environment, was arrested after he hacked into the Flex-Cube Universal Banking System of a first generation bank.

“Using application software, he created fictitious credits totalling N1,868,900,000 on the accounts of three of the bank’s customers and successfully consummated debits amounting to N417,542,000 through Internet banking transfers to other banks

“The unit, while acting swiftly on a petition from the bank, contacted the Central Bank of Nigeria and Deposit Money Banks, whose customers were beneficiaries of the fraudulent funds, and was able to salvage a substantial amount.”

Johnson stated that items recovered from Salau included Apple laptop and iPhone, adding that he and the BDC operators, who laundered the money, would be charged as soon as investigation was concluded.

Explaining how the suspects were arrested, Johnson said, “We had been on the trail of the hacker (Salau) for a while; he travelled out of the country; so, we placed him under watch and picked him up from the airport.

“The Commissioner of Police in charge of the unit, Anderson Bankole, arrested one of the BDCs operators in a bank in Abuja when he went for the IGP’s conference. The other BDC operator was arrested in Lagos.

“The hacker (Salau) was the last person we arrested, because the way we conduct our investigation is from the bottom up.”

“Consequently, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the unit scheduled a meeting with the Chief Compliance Officers and Heads of Technology/Information Security Department of banks with a view to brainstorming on the loopholes exploited by this suspect and how to counter similar hacks for the benefit of both the police and the banking sector of our economy,” Johnson added.

Crime / Adamawa: 42-Year-Old Man Arrested For Defiling 7-Year-Old Girl by SandraJane: 7:13am On Aug 12, 2021
A 42-year-old man in Adamawa State, Ibrahim Bello, has been nabbed for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old neighbour.

Ibrahim allegedly lured the girl to his room at a compound in Saminaka, a community in Yola South Local Government Area, after she left her parents’ apartment to attend Quranic classes.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Suleiman Nguroje, who disclosed the development to DAILY POST on Wednesday morning, said the suspect fled after the incident but was rounded up in the night of Monday, August 9.

Explaining what the police had established on the case through investigation, the PPRO said the seven-year-old girl had left the house with her younger brother for their Quranic school last Saturday, August 7, only for Ibrahim to call the girl into his room.

The girl remained in Ibrahim’s room until the brother returned from the school and the mother asked of his sister and had to raise an alarm when the boy told her that his sister did not go with him.

According to the PPRO, it was when the mother raised an alarm that the girl came out of Ibrahim’s room, after which Ibrahim fled the neighbourhood.

“The suspect went into hiding but our men kept vigil until Ibrahim returned to his house in the night of Monday with intention of disappearing again the following morning, but our men who had been watching out for him, arrested him,” Nguroje explained.

The PPRO said neighbourhood rape has remained common and parents need to beware of men that their daughters call uncle.

A source, who spoke with both the suspect and the victim, said the man denied having carnal knowledge of the girl, and that the mother is framing him for the offence.

The source however faulted the defence, saying the girl disclosed that the man had done the same thing to her before.

The source added that the man is a father of four children whose wife ran from him after it was found out that he got his own sister pregnant.

Celebrities / Between Sex Therapist Angela Nwosu , Pastor Adeboye And Bishop Oyedepo by SandraJane: 7:03am On May 11, 2021
“If heaven is where Pastor Adeboye , David Oyedepo will go after death, I don’t want to make heaven” – Angela Nwosu

Popular Facebook influencer, Angela Nwosu has shocked her fans in a new post as she disclosed that she doesn’t want to make heaven if the likes of pastor Adeboye, Kumuiyi, and other religious leaders will be going to heaven after death.

She has claimed that heaven will be a boring and unbearable place to be in. This is because they are fake and extortionists in heaven.

Here’s what she wrote;

“I don’t want to make heaven!

If heaven is where Pastor Adeboye, Kumuyi, David Oyedepo and all other religious leaders and people will go to after death, then I reject it with every fibre of my being. Heaven will sure be a very boring and unbearable place to be in, full of fake people and extortionists and heartless people. I want to be where Fela is and would be happy to see Davido, Wizkid, Tekno, etc, join me there.

The thing about me is I don’t ever want to be like you. You don’t believe that you can live the way that I do. Seriously, you act like life’s a recital from the bible and once you reach the end you won’t know where the time goes. I’m living through my flows so please enjoy the show. No Jesus above tells me how to live my life, I do this for me, am not ashamed, I do not hide. I already have a God that turns me on with reckless abandon. He’s the God that I see and believe in and his name is Emeka.

So Save your prayers for your mothers, I’m doing fine, the last thing on my mind is the afterlife. The time is now, I live in the moment. I only think with logic, so keep your bleeping preaching, pity and emotions. I can never be broken even if I’m lost in the ocean, I still won’t give a Bleep where I’m supposedly going, ighotago? For real, I don’t want to spend eternity with any of you. Death is the only thing promised to us at birth. Save your ‘may God have mercy on you’ for your sisters that are doing abortions, for your brothers raping kids, for small girls with big God knacking other women’s husbands, for your pastors and your village people

There’s no time to waste once you enter this World, If you ask me, there is no afterlife and when I die, I will be satisfied with who I am and what I leave behind!

Udo.

Health / Girl Dies After Mother Absconded With N3m Donated For Her Brain Surgery by SandraJane: 12:14pm On Apr 14, 2021
3-year-old girl dies after mother absconded with N3m donated for her brain surgery

A 3-year-old girl who was battling with brain tumour has reportedly died after her mother allegedly absconded with N3m donated for her surgery.

Nuhu Fulani kwajafa, the National Coordinator of Global initiative for Peace, Love and Care, GIPLC, revealed this in a Facebook post.

According to Nuhu, the little girl needed N3m for her brain surgery and a well meaning individual offered to donate the money. However, he requested to transfer it to the mother’s bank account because he didn’t trust the NG0 in charge of the little girl’s case.

Unfortunately, the mother chose the money over her child’s life as she ran away with the donated funds. Nuhu revealed that the girl, identified as Ada, died on Tuesday April 13.

He wrote on Facebook,

“Last month we had a case of a 3yr old girl with a brain tumor who needed N3m for surgery. A donor insisted on paying the money to the account of the mother, stating that he’s not comfortable with NGOs. We initially wanted him to pay directly to the hospital, but that was not possible because 80% of the medical materials needed for the surgery has to be bought outside the hospital. Eventually, the donor credited the mother’s account, and the mother absconded with the N3m. Sadly, the child died this morning. Rest In Peace Ada”.

I used to hawk bread to raise my school fees - Actress Abiola Adebayo says as she shares her grass to grace story

Shared with Caption ...

This picture reminded me of my humble beginning
I hawked different things on the street but was more popular with bread cos that was the last thing I hawked as a young adult seeking for admission into Uni, it was a tough one, I know a few people can attest to that here.

I lost 4 different admissions because I couldn’t afford to pay, it took me about 7 years to finally got into Uni but today, I’m not just a graduate but a masters degree holder.
It wasn’t easy but in all, I never stop loving God and hoping and of a truth, God has been very good to me
I am not there yet but I am definitely not where I used to be.

The reason for my epistle is to encourage someone, please don’t give up on your dreams, no matter what life throws at you, you’re going through those challenges for a purpose, just keep praying, put God first, be diligent, keep working harder, get better at whatever you do on a daily basis and stay focus......your light will soon shine.

Crime / LASTMA, Police Personnel Knock Out Driver’s Teeth In Brutal Attack by SandraJane: 6:46am On Apr 13, 2021
A driver, Michael James, is still in pain after six officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and men of the Lagos State Police Command allegedly brutalised him during an arrest for a traffic offence he described as illegal on Lateef Jakande Road in the Ikeja Local Government Area of the state.

PUNCH Metro gathered from James that the officials, while enforcing his arrest, were assisted by two hoodlums, and two of his teeth were knocked out and his gum ripped off, while they were trying to dispossess him of his vehicle.

James said the policemen and LASTMA officials released him and handed his vehicle to him after realising that he was bleeding profusely, adding that he had spent over N80,000 on medical expenses.

He stated, “I was on my way to our factory on Adeniyi Jones to convey nylon for my boss, but as I drove through Lateef Jakande Road, three officials of LASTMA, two other guys and three armed policemen suddenly stopped me. I asked what I had done and they said I drove against the traffic. I became surprised because I was the only person they stopped as other vehicles driving on the same lane were not stopped. I had been plying that route since 2001 and no one had ever stopped me for driving against the traffic.

“I was still explaining to them when one of them attempted to forcefully remove the vehicle’s key; I pleaded with them but they overpowered me and pushed me out of the vehicle. I held one of them firmly and we both landed on the ground and the LASTMA officials seized the opportunity to drive my vehicle away. The remaining officials and policemen started beating me, while I was on the ground and in the process, they knocked out two of my teeth and my gum was affected.

“When they saw that I was bleeding heavily, they stopped beating me and ordered me to enter the commercial bus they were using to operate and drove me down to Anthony bus stop, where my vehicle was parked. When we got there, they said I should bring my phone, but I told them that I would not release my phone to them unless they killed me.

“I called my boss, who connected me with an official, who intervened and after realising that the road where I was accosted was not one-way, they were instructed to release my vehicle.”

James, however, said a few days after he was assaulted, he wore a face mask, drove on the same road and saw one of the LASTMA officials, who assaulted him, adding that he knew he was brutalised unjustly when he asked the official if he was driving against the traffic and he said no.

He stated, “I went straight to see a dentist to treat me because two of my teeth had been removed and my gum was also affected. I have been in severe pain since the assault; in fact, my teeth were stitched to my gum and they removed again. After some days, I drove on the same road and luckily I saw one of the LASTMA officials, who assaulted me.

“He could not recognise me because I wore a face mask; I asked if the road was one-way and he said it wasn’t. I used that opportunity to snap his picture without his knowledge. I recognise all those involved in the illegal duty and I showed my boss when we visited the LASTMA head office in Oshodi. I have spent over N80,000 on treatment and I am still not fine. I want them prosecuted. The incident happened on March 24, 2021.”

When contacted, the spokesman for LASTMA, Olumide Filade, said, “An investigation will be conducted on it and anybody found culpable will face disciplinary action. The victim should also visit our office to make an official complaint.”

Politics / Two Bullets Extracted From Oba Adetutu Ajayi's Body by SandraJane: 6:03am On Apr 12, 2021
A commissioner in Ekiti State House of Assembly Commission and an indigene of Ewu Ekiti in the Ilejemeje Local Government Area of the state, Segun Erinle, said on Sunday that the tension in the community following the shooting by bandits on Friday of the monarch, Oba Adetutu Ajayi, had gone down.

Erinle, who was at the monarch’s bedside, said the return of calm to the community followed information that Oba Ajayi was recovering in the hospital, where he was rushed to for medical attention.

Masked gunmen had on Friday attacked the monarch along the Ayetoro Ekiti-Ewu Road by firing at his vehicle and in the process injured the traditional ruler.

The former House of Assembly member said, “The Elewu is responding to treatment. He is feeling better. Bullets have been extracted, we thank God. Two bullets were extracted from Kabiyesi’s body.

“The tension in the community has gone down. We have calmed the people down. The police and operatives of the Amotekun Corps have been around and have been patrolling the town. Everything is calm now. Moreover that the Kabiyesi is getting better.”

Erinle added, “According to information and what Kabiyesi told me, he was returning from Ayetoro Ekiti to Ewu, where he went to buy something. Many times, he prefers to go himself by way of driving as a form of exercise. On his way back, he said he met the masked criminals at a spot, where the road was bad, and they started shooting.

“So, he stopped and they told him that they would kill him. They took his phones and money, which was about N100,000, and in the process, Kabiyesi just drove off. That was how he managed to escape from them. But they rained bullets on his car as he drove off.

“I still charge the police and other security agencies to try their best to arrest the culprits and as well increase the security outreach in all our towns and villages in the state, especially those of us that are near the border towns.”

The state Commissioner for Information, Akin Omole, who decried the attack on the traditional ruler, said the government was bothered by the incident, but gave an assurance that the appropriate agencies of government handling the matter would follow it to a logical conclusion.

Omole said, “We are bothered as a government. The police have been informed and they have swung into action. This is a criminal case. When things border on criminal or security matter, it is the security agencies that are directly in charge. Ours is to give support to them to do their job.

“We are already in the process of making sure that such things do not happen again. It is prevention that is important. We know that security issues are a challenge in Nigeria, so, we are taking the necessary steps.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, said the command was making efforts to arrest the culprits, adding that no arrest had been made so far.

Efforts to nab the attackers, he said, included “combing of the bushes and forests in the community and indeed the state by police personnel in collaboration with the personnel of the Amotekun Corps and local hunters.”

Abutu, who said the intention of the criminals would be unravelled as soon as an arrest was made, added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Tunde Mobayo, had urged citizens to be security conscious and promptly report any untoward incident or happening observed in their locality to the police.

Religion / Catholic Church In Yola Built A Mosque For Muslims - Bishop Mamza by SandraJane: 10:21am On Apr 11, 2021
Why Yola Catholic church built mosque for Muslim IDPs – Bishop Mamza

In this interview with HINDI LIVINUS, fiery Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Yola, Revd. Fr. Stephen Mamza, speaks on the state of the nation.

You are approaching your 25th year espiscopal ordination, as a Catholic Priest, 10 out of which you are celebrating as a Bishop. How has it been?

Well, thanks be to God that I have had the opportunity of serving in the church for 25 years. The Lord has been sustaining me. He has been very gracious to me. It has not been by my own strength or by my own power, but by the power of God that has been doing everything I did. I can say nothing but thanks to God.

You would be inaugurating an 86-unit housing estate built for the victims of insurgency to commemorate your 25th anniversary as a priest. Why is this important to you?

As you know, since 2014 the Catholic Diocese of Yola, has been involved in taking care of displaced victims of insurgency – those displaced from southern Borno and also northern Adamawa, who ran into Yola for refuge. So, the church opened its doors so that these people can put up. At a certain stage we had over 3,000 people living on our church premises. Most of them returned to their original homes after the military reclaimed their homes. But again, there are those who still face threat of insurgency, especially those living at the border of Sambisa forest and cannot go back to their homes because of the activities of Boko Haram since 2014. These people have been at the camp that we set up for IDPs at St. Theresa Cathedral. So, we thought of what we could do to improve their living standards. Because we were becoming weary of taking care of them and even for our donors fatigue was setting in. And the IDP themselves were getting tired of staying in the camp – it is not easy for anyone to live for seven years in a small tent in a camp with children. So, I thought of building a place where the IDPs could be resettled. And thanks be to God, through the support of Mesio in Germany, we started last year in January the construction of 86 units of houses to be built for the 86 families still in our camp. On the housing estate, we built a church and a mosque and a school for the IDPs, which will soon be inaugurated. Already some of the IDPs have been moved into the estate.

You have faced criticism from your fellow Christians for building a mosque for Muslim IDPs. How did you handle the opposition?

In the first place, when we played host to these IDPs, we did not discriminate against any one of them. We didn’t ask what religion the IDPs belong to; we didn’t ask for their church denomination; we just treated them as human beings who are in need of help, irrespective of their religion, denomination or tribe. Majority of the IDPs who thronged our camp were Christians but there was also a large number of Muslims among them. And if we were able to build houses for all of them, and also built a church for the Christians among them, then it is only a matter of justice and fairness that we also provide a space of worship for the few Muslims among them. There are about 10 to 12 Muslim families in the camp. I just felt that since we didn’t leave out the Muslims while providing food for the Christians or leave the Muslims out while building houses for the Christians, it is only just that we also build a mosque for the Muslims as we built a church for Christians. It is not something that is commonly done; it is not something that we have heard of being done, especially in our country, Nigeria, where everybody is conscious about their own religion.

What do your parishioners think about it?

Even from within, people did not see it as a good gesture, at all. But it is normal; I can also understand them. Some of them even pointed out that the Boko Haram insurgents are Muslims and they have caused a lot of the havoc for us; they ask, “Why should we even go ahead and build a mosque for them?” But I say, “Well, not all the Muslims are Boko Haram (members), not all of them (Muslims) are evil. Those that I know, that we have been living together and taking care of them for the past seven years, I know them to be good. So, there should be no reason why I should discriminate against them. I think that is the reason we built the mosque. People even ask, “Why should you, a Christian, build a mosque?” And my response to them is that, “I am a Christian, a pastor, a bishop and a priest, I shouldn’t deny anybody their right to worship.” I think that is the clear message I actually want to pass across. Religion is a matter of choice. One can choose to practise this religion today, and can equally choose to practise another religion tomorrow. People should not be compelled into the practice of any particular religion against their will. If as a Christian you decide to change to Islam, that’s your own choice, you should be allowed to do so.

Also, if as a Muslim you decide that Christianity is better for you, you should be allowed to practise the faith of your choice. Nobody should be threatened or forced. If a Christian chooses to become a Muslim, that Christian shouldn’t be threatened. Same way, if a Muslim decides to become a Christian, that Muslim shouldn’t be threatened. That is what freedom of worship guarantees under our constitution, since it is a secular state that allows and tolerates freedom of worship.

What is your thought on the hijab crisis in Kwara State?

The root cause of the crisis in Kwara State is no other person than the state governor. If the governor had intervened right at the onset of the crisis, perhaps we wouldn’t witness the crisis, but he didn’t. He was quiet. He didn’t say anything, and later he ordered the schools reopened without addressing the concerns agitating the owners of the mission schools. The governor did not handle the hijab matter in a mature manner. Should anything happen in Kwara, he should be held responsible, because he has shown bad leadership.

If you actually look at the happenings in Kwara critically, you will see that the Christians in Kwara State, for quite a very long time, have been marginalised. And it is not only in Kwara State; it is the same in a lot of places, particularly in the North, where generally Christians are marginalised. That is what we are talking about; there should be freedom of religion. Let it be that as people are free to join any political party, so they should be free to join any religion that they love. It should be a matter of choice. No one should compel you and people should not use government resources to promote their religion, which is what is happening in Kwara State, just as in many states in the North, where governors use public funds to promote their religion, while other religions are neglected. There are so many places where it is almost impossible to get land to build a church, not to even to talk of getting a Certificate of Occupancy. So, there is serious, marginalisation taking place in Nigeria on the basis of religion.

As a priest have you been worried about the separatist agitations as well as insecurity in the country?

I am always worried because I don’t know where we are heading to. I will continue to be worried until we get solutions to the problems that we face. Our political leaders don’t seem to care; they don’t seem to be bothered, they are only concerned about their political careers. Despite the level of insecurity that is plaguing the country, the political class appears to be mute, their only concern is 2023 elections. Their concern is not about human lives, people being abducted, the mass killings take place or the destruction of properties. They don’t even bother, they are fixated on 2023.

In your Easter homily last year, you accused the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), of sleeping on duty as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. Will you say you have been vindicated by the state of security in the country?

Everybody knows we are in a country that seems as if it has no leadership. This is the feeling that everyone has and I am not saying these things because Buhari is the person in power. I would say the same thing if it is someone else and things are like this. It is my duty as a priest, a prophet to make sure that the truth is spoken to power. If we don’t do it, what then is our work as priests and shepherds of God’s people? So, as long as the government does not do the right thing, and does not provide good governance that we are expecting, we will continue to ask questions. The questions we have been asking are yet to be answered, particularly by this administration which promised security. The first thing that this administration promised people when they came on board was the issue of security. The President was even very specific; he promised that by the end of that year that he came into office Boko Haram would be a thing of the past. But look at where we have found ourselves now. Everybody, including those in the present administration, knows and would admit the fact that the country has never found itself in a worse security situation in the history of Nigeria as we have now found ourselves now. It’s even worse than the Civil War because during the Civil War not everywhere in the country was affected. There were places that did not experience the war and, as such, were safe. But now, you hear of Boko Haram, you hear of bandits, you hear of killer Fulani herdsmen and other criminal groups, we never heard of before now. The home state of the President Katsina, is now one of the most insecure states in the country. So, what has the President got to say? Because before he came on board there was no issue of banditry in either Katsina or Zamfara State. Things have never been this bad. If you look at the whole of northern Nigeria, you will realise that insecurity in the North-West is now far worse than what is being experienced in the North-East. We know the North-East is faced with the challenge of insurgency, but it is not as bad as what’s happening in the North-West now.

Do you think that Buhari will be leaving Nigeria in 2023 worse than he met it 2015 in terms of security?

Who knows whether Nigeria will still be in existence by 2023? Who knows who will be around in 2023? I don’t know if I will be here (in 2023). I don’t know if Buhari will be there. Even those politicians who are agitating, how sure are they that they are going to be there in 2023. What we are experiencing now is even worse than the Civil War experience. Look at what happened in Ebonyi, the killings by Fulani herdsmen. Can we say we have a government in power and this is happening? There is no single day in this country that you will not hear of mass killings or mass abduction of people. I believe the government knows the root causes of all these things and they also know the solutions but the question is: why are they not fixing things? The simple reason is government has interest in everything that is happening. And inasmuch as the government has interest in what is happening, then government will not have the will to stop it. Something must be wrong somewhere.

What can Christian leaders do?

Christian leaders can try their best, in the little way they can, wherever they find themselves. A drop of water in the ocean is more important than no drop at all. My usual advice for Christian leaders is: whatever you are doing wherever you are, give it your best. Even if everybody is bad, and things are falling apart, don’t give up. Put in your best and continue to do the right thing, wherever you find yourself.

Politics / Court Dismisses Case Against CBN’s Directives On Bank Charges by SandraJane: 7:47am On Feb 10, 2021
The Central Bank of Nigeria on Tuesday, said the Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital, dismissed a suit instituted by a legal practitioner, Olumide Babalola, challenging the CBN policy on current account maintenance fee contained in the guide to the charges by banks and other financial institutions of January 2020.

It disclosed this in a statement titled, ‘Court dismisses case against CBN’s directives on bank charges’.

The CBN stated that, “Babalola had instituted the action in the name of his law firm, Babalola LP, in which he contended that the policy and guidelines of the CBN violated his fundamental human rights.

“The CBN, through its counsel, Adeleke Agbola, of Cheakley Chambers, however challenged the suit on the ground that the plaintiff lacked the legal capacity to institute the suit on a policy that affects the public.

“In his notice of preliminary objection to the suit, Agbola had contended that the plaintiff failed to show that the CBN acted in bad faith or breached any law by issuing the guidelines.”

It stated that the trial judge, Justice Shittu Abubakar, after careful analysis of the case, on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, dismissed the suit in its entirety for lacking in merit and upheld the preliminary objection.

According to the statement, the court held that guidelines issued by the CBN, authorising deduction of current account maintenance charges was lawful and within the statutory powers of CBN.

The court also concurred with the argument canvassed by the CBN counsel that the plaintiff had not shown that the CBN breached any known law by issuing the guidelines, it stated.

It noted that Abubakar also held that the plaintiff/applicant ought to have negotiated with his bank, Access Bank Plc for a reduction of his charges instead of dragging the CBN to court.

Crime / Man Arraigned For Alleged Rice Fraud In Osun by SandraJane: 7:06am On Feb 10, 2021
The police on Tuesday arraigned a 45-year-old man, Olanrewaju Elijah before an Osun Magistrate’s court in Osogbo over a N2,031,000 rice scam.

Elijah, according to the charge sheet obtained by DAILY POST fraudulently obtained the sum of N2,031,000 from one Mrs. Kadirat Akande under pretence of supplying her seventy three bags of rice.

The defendant was brought a two-count charge bordering on fraud and stealing.

Police prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Idoko John told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence between the months of September and October 2016 at Osogbo.

The prosecutor said the alleged offence contravened sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code cap 34. Vol.II Laws of Osun State 2002.

In his plea, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him.

The defense Counsel, Mrs. B.Y Dada prayed the court to admit the defendant to bail in a most liberal term, adding that the defendant will provide a reliable and credible surety if he was admitted to bail.

Mrs. Dada noted that peace meeting is currently going on between the two parties.

She said she is confident that the complainant will be refunded and assured the court that reasonable amount from the money will be brought to the court on the next adjourned date.

However, the bail application by the defence counsel was opposed by the prosecutor who argued that the accused has been on the run since he committed the alleged offence but he was tracked through his phone.

The prosecutor added that the police made a lot of efforts in tracking him and releasing him on bail will jeopardize the effort of the police.

According to him, justice would not prevail if he was admitted to bail. Anambra 360 Reports

ASP Idoko said the defendant promised the complainant to get her rice from a company in Nasarawa state but nothing came out of it since 2016 till date.

In his ruling, Magistrate Isola Omisade admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1,000,000 and 2 sureties.

The case was adjourned till March 8, 2021 for reports of settlement.

Politics / Sunday Igboho Must Operate Within The Law - Tunde Bakare by SandraJane: 12:28pm On Feb 04, 2021
Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church in Lagos, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has said that popular Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo, well known as Sunday Igboho must act within the ambits of the law to avert inter-tribal crisis in the country.

Bakare, who said he planned to meet with Igboho very soon, stressed that indiscriminate violence was not the way to handle the current herdsmen crisis rocking parts of the country.

“Igboho looks like a man who wants to fight for his people because they were murdered and raped but he must operate within the ambits of the law.

“Indiscriminate violence is an ill-wind that will blow no one any good and remember before you attack the Fulani in the South-West, there are Yorubas and other ethnic nationalities living in their own communities too and if they open fire on them, it will be so indiscriminate and we must avert it.

“It is an ill-wind and we must avert it before it gets out of hands,” the cleric said on Thursday while featuring on Arise TV’s The Morning Show monitored by The PUNCH.

Bakare further said that the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, as well as other monarchs and leaders of thought in Yorubaland must be respected.

The PUNCH had reported Wednesday that Igboho said the Ooni disappointed the Yoruba people when he visited the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), of recent over the herdsmen crisis rocking the South-West region.

The activist, who issued a seven-day quit notice to herdsmen accused of sundry crimes in the Ibarapa area of Oyo State and enforced same, said Oba Ogunwusi failed to convey the pains and displeasure of the Yoruba people to the President during the visit.

Hours later, Igboho, however, begged for forgiveness from the the monarch whom he described as a father.

Commenting on the matter on Thursday, Bakare said, “I am glad that he has apologised. The ancient stool of Ile-Ife, the Ooni of Ife must be respected and all Obas should be respected and no one should drag them or their names in the mud.

“One of the things that men of goodwill needs to do is that we can see that what is causing this is leadership deficit in almost all over the country, South-West inclusive, we have to avoid all reckless rhetorics, we are not barbarics, we must not allow those things to be in the front of the burner at all.”

The cleric called for end to open grazing in order to stop the Fulani herdsmen and farmer clashes rocking parts of the country.

Politics / I’m Not Surprised By My Removal - Sacked Borno Commissioner by SandraJane: 6:42am On Feb 03, 2021
A former Borno State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Salisu Kwaya-Bura, who was sacked on Tuesday, has said his sacking was not politically motivated.

Kwaya-Bura’s sacking was earlier announced in a statement by the Special Adviser on Public Relations and Strategy, Malam Isa Gusau.

It reads partly, “The Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has relieved the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Salihu Kwayabura, of his position.”

Gusau had said the directive was part of necessary measures to reposition the ministry of health and named Prof. Isa Marte, as replacement.

But Kwaya-Bura, who spoke to journalists later said, “Contrary to speculations that my appointment was terminated due to political reasons, this is not true.

“The decision did not come to me as a surprise because I did not appoint myself in the first place and I believe that someone else has the right to be appointed by the governor as he pleases.

“I do not believe that this is political or anything to do with my role in the COVID-19 team as being speculated because I am a professional medical personnel and I will continue to play vital role in the administration of good health in Borno State,” he added.

Politics / Re: Adamu Remains In Office As Buhari Delays Appointment Of New IGP by SandraJane: 7:54am On Feb 02, 2021
Mayng01:
I knew it, bubu is a curse on this nation. By the time he is ready to replace him, it would make no difference anymore, as he did in the military cos shekau is now bringing the fight to them, Urgent Prayer Request even at their camps and baracks and they are hitting the army hard with casualties. Adamu has failed to tackle banditry & kidnappings as well, by the time he is ready to replace him, Urgent Prayer Request things would have got out of hand. Very slow in responding to critical & National emergency issues. May God deliver us from a tyrannical ethnic bigot. Spit!!!
