Forty-three deregistered political parties in Ondo State, under the auspices of Emerging Political Platform (EPP), on Monday collapsed their structures into the All Progressives Congress (APC) and declared their supports for the re-election of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN.

EPP, with over 8000 Executives members from unit, ward , local goverment and State levels and over 100,000 members across the 18 local government areas, officially joined the APC at a seminar tagged "Voters Cultivation For Election Success", held in Akure, the state capital.

The group, led by Prince Biyi Poroye, was received into the party by the State APC Chairman, Engr. Adetimehin, who handed over the new intakes to the leader of the party and Governorof the state, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN.

Poroye, who was the State factional Chairman of the PDP during the Ahmed Makarfi and Ali Sheriff leadership tussle, said they were the original third force that worked to unseat Akeredolu before joining the APC.

While describing EPP members as committed followers, Poroye said the group have vowed to mobilise and deliver over 100,000 votes for Akeredolu in the October 10, 2020 governorship poll.

According to him, "before resolving to join APC, we the 43 deregistered political parties have taken our time to access other candidates contesting against Governor Akeredolu, and after our thorough research, Akeredolu remains the best among them.

"We are orphans, we need a father to father us, and Akeredolu has shown to us that APC remains the best platform that can lead our followers to the promise land."

The APC state chairman, Adetimehin, lauded the decision of EPP to collapse their structure into the APC, assuring them that they would never regret joining the party.

Adetimehin said as at today, Akeredolu remains the only governor in the history of the state, apart from Ajasin, that has attracted industries into the State.

"Apart from Ajasin, our dear state has never had a governor that have the intention to either built or attract industries into the state. Akeredolu has followed the path of Ajasin and with this intention, he is reducing the rate of unemployment in the state," the state chairman said.

Governor Akeredolu, who said he was fulfilled, described the group as an important cell that is needed in the APC, adding that it must not be destroyed.

The Governor said he is aware of the potentials in the EPP, and assured that the group would be engaged before and during the election.

"We have accepted you wholeheartedly. We are now one in APC. Poroye and his group will be useful to us because we know your capabilities.

"Although EPP has joined APC, but the group remains a cell that must not be destroyed. This is an important cell that we need in the APC and there must be a way to maintain this cell," Akeredolu stated.

The Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, on Monday expressed optimism that he would win the October 10 governorship election in the state.

The governor stated this shortly after meeting with the All Progressives Congress (APC) Election Appeal Committee at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

He advised his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenger, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, to focus on an issue-based campaign without resorting to violence.

Akeredolu said: “Jegede is my friend. We are colleagues and both members of inner bar, I don’t have anything against him and I just pray that our campaign should be issue-based without violence.

“I know that he (Jegede) knows that it will not be easy for him. Yes, it may not be easy for me to win, but by God’s grace, I am going to win.

“I can assure you that as it was in the beginning, so it shall be now and forever more. We will win this election by the grace of God.”

The governor said the defection of his deputy, Mr. Agboola Ajayi, to the PDP would not affect his chances at the poll.

He added: “For me, the deputy leaving the APC to return to the PDP is a good riddance to bad rubbish.

“We thought we could accommodate him in the APC, but since he returned to where he truly belonged, it is all well and good. I always wish people the best I can.

“From what I have been told, he has lost the ticket and I pray he won’t jump to another party. But if he does, all well and good.

“However, for his own sake and as a big brother, I will advise him to stay with Jegede and support him very well.”

The governor also shrugged off his estranged deputy’s claim that he helped him win the 2016 governorship election in the state.

“Let him help Jegede to win this time around and that will confirm that he is popular.

“What I know is that he is of no importance, he has no hold on any local government. I can assure you that when the election comes, I will defeat him in his local government and he will never recover from it.

“Let me advise him again to stay with Jegede and let us see what happens”, Akeredolu concluded.

The Governor and his wife have been married for 39 years and their union is still this adorable, but most youths of nowadays can't even stay married for 5years without getting a divorce. Our generation has a lot of fixing up to do.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has tacitly endorsed the reelection bid of Ondo State governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredeolu, keeping mum on his Edo state counterpart, Godwin Obaseki.

Speaking to newsmen after several hours meeting with the APC Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja on Monday, Oshiomhole noted that even though the electorate have become more sophisticated, Governor Akeredeolu has done well in Ondo that the party does not entertain any fear about him.

While commenting on the contentious mode of primaries for the Edo governorship election, he quipped that the national leadership of the party is yet to officially receive formal complaint from Governor Obaseki rejecting the proposed primaries.

Apparantly commenting on the reelection bid of the governors, Oshiomhole said: “You know that Governors are assets to our party and once a candidate emerged we all work and ensure that we do our best to persuade the people in the respective States to favour us with their votes.


“I am sure that by the special grace of God, the Ondo Governor is here, he did well and electorate are more sophisticated now so we have no fear about that. Obaseki is not here but issues of primaries are well spelt out in our constitution and we are following it as strictly as possible. So nothing to worry about at all,” he noted.

Asked if the party leadership will reconsider the mode of primaries following complaints from the Edo governor, he replied: “You are speculating, I don’t have any letter or document to that effect. These are very formal matters. So stop spreading rumours that the governor is against the primaries.”

He insisted that the party will go ahead with direct primaries, adding that apart from releasing the guidelines, the party has also notified INEC on the date for the primaries.

“We are honoured to host APC governors to discuss as we have always dosne internal issues of the party which are basically to exploit ways and means of strengthening the party and ensuring that we continued to remain the most favoured party in Nigeria.

“We and a very helpful conversation, you know it is one APC, there are no two APC, so interacting and interfacing with our Governors is something that is part of our tradition, it is not something we are just invented and today discussion was particularly helpful.

“So, we are very grateful to the chairman and members of the Progressive Governors Forum who have come all the way. What binds us together is so strong that coronavirus can not out asunder. I was particularly excited.

“We have since published our time table because under the law we are required to give INEC at least 21 days notice to monitor our primaries and to State the mode of our primaries and of course NWC had approved direct primaries for Edo. That of Ondo has not been discussed because that will come much later, because Edo will come about three weeks before Ondo.

“We have commenced the sale of forms, I think as of last Friday to my knowledge three people had picked the forms. I think by today more people have picked the forms. So we’re selling forms to all those who wish to buy based on the guidelines and of course as the Chairman of the Progressive Governors rightly said, we have ensured in our letter to INEC and even this morning we had a virtual meeting with INEC leadership we will conduct primaries taking into account the protocols on Covid-19 by the PTF and NCDC. I think everything has been going fine,” he assured.


In his own comment, PGF chairman, Atiku Bagudu, said that the meeting became necessary to resolve many outstanding issues since the resolution of the crisis that almost consumed the party.

“Let me join the national chairman, Comrade Oshiomhole in saying that the meeting between the national leadership of our party with the PGF was to discuss issues that have piled up especially between March 14 when the forum last met and agreed to meet with the National Working Committee (NWC) under the able leadership of Comrade Oshiomhole to discuss issues of interest to our party.

“Within the intervening period, many things have happened. We had a virtual conference where we commiserated with Mr President because of the challenges caused by the COVID-19 situation. We also undertook that the delegation will visit Lagos to express sympathies with the Lagos people and our colleague for the able leadership provided by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and also meet with our national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to discuss on the development in the polity particularly as affects our party.

“So, yes, a delegation was in Lagos. This meeting was not a continuation of that meeting. This a meeting with the national leadership of our party to discuss issues between the Governor’s Forum and party leadership that will lead to the progress of our party.

“On Edo, Ondo elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rolled out a time table and the national chairman is in a better position to speak on that,” he said.

In attendance include Bagudu, Plateau governor, Simon Lalong, Lagos state, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Gombe state, Mohammed Inuwa, Kano state, Umur Ganduje, their Ondo state counterpart, Oluwarotimi Akeredeolu among others.

The Flyover, which was Christened "Redemption Bridge" and commissioned by President Buhari earlier this year, has no doubt improved the look of the ancient town.
