Politics / Summary Of Gov. Wike's Broadcast On Lockdown Suspension. by sarris(m): 8:13am On May 27, 2020
A STATE-WIDE BROADCAST BY HIS EXCELLENCY, NYESOM EZENWO WIKE, GOVERNOR OF RIVERS STATE ON TUESDAY MAY 26, 2020.

My Dear Good People of Rivers State,

2. In the last two months we have implemented several calculated measures in response to the outbreak of the coronavirus in our State.

3. Some of these measures were severe, but necessary, including the total lockdown of Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas, which are, without doubt, the social and economic never-centres of our State.

4. Arguably, these measures and your sacrifices have enabled us so far, to contain and limit the spread of this virus to 4 out of the 23 local government areas of the State.

5. Also, the pattern of infection remains predictable, as there is yet, any evidence of serious community transmission, although this cannot be ruled out with the increasing number of positive cases; the majority of which, are connected with contacts with oil company workers who imported the disease into the State.

6. And so, while we should all still be concerned, since our set goals in the battle against the virus are not yet achieved, there is no need to fear.

7. We are totally in control, working hard every day and believing that the worst will soon be behind us.

8. In continuation of our struggle against the spread of covid-19 in our State, we had planned to resume the total lockdown on Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas from Wednesday 27th May 2020.

9. However, after a comprehensive review of the measures we have taken and further considerations placed before us by well-meaning members of the public, the State Security Council has decided to cancel the proposed lockdown on Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas of the State.

10. In essence, no part of Rivers State is or will be under any lockdown from this moment and this will be so, except where it becomes necessary again.

11. As we all know, the regular washing of hands, religious wearing of face masks, keeping effective physical and social distance of between 1.5 to 2 meters from other people, completely avoiding touching of faces with unwashed hands, and cleaning of surfaces we regularly touch have been identified as some of the most effective measures against contracting this virus in the absence of vaccine.

12. These are not difficult measures that should warrant any excuses for negligence, non or ineffective compliance.

13. Consequently, we wish to re-enforce our decision on the continuous implementation of the following measures throughout the State to mitigate the spread of this virus:

(i) All land borders, including all exit and entry routes into Rivers State shall remain closed to human and vehicular traffic, except those on essential services and duly exempted.

(ii) All residents must wear face masks or covering into any public space, including our roads, banks, shopping malls, shops, hotels and in any lawful social gathering.

(iii) The State task force and the security agencies have been directed to arrest and summarily prosecute any person seen on our streets or any other public place without wearing face masks.

(iv) All banks, motor parks, hotels, restaurants, shops, business centres, shopping malls, and offices must maintain social distancing and enforce the wearing of face masks in their premises.

(v) The State task force and security agencies have been directed to seal up, prosecute and confiscate to the State any bank, shopping mall, restaurant, shop, business place or office that fails to enforce social distancing and the wearing of face masks in its premises.

(vi) In addition to providing daily guest list to the Police and the Department of State Security, hoteliers must not host large gatherings, including parties and receptions. Defaulting hotels will be sealed-up and the owners summarily prosecuted.

(vii) All bars, beer palours, or drinking joints, night-clubs, viewing centres, open markets and cinemas shall remain closed until further notice;

(viii) Oil mill market in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area shall remain closed until further notice;

(ix) Oginigba Slaughter market in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area shall similarly remain closed until further notice.

(x) Mbiama market in Ahoada West Local Government Area shall also remain closed until further notice;

(xi) All public weddings, burials and large social gatherings shall remain banned.

(xii) Churches and other religious gatherings should continue to comply with the existing advisory on social distancing, initiate temperature checks and enforce the wearing of face masks during their activities;

(xiii) Dealers in Ikoku Spare Parts markets are warned for the last time to stop converting public roads to mechanic workshops or risk final closure.

(xiv) Similarly, no mechanic workshop should be found along Ikwerre road as Government will prosecute defaulters and confiscate any vehicle being repaired on any public road.

(xv) Private and commercial vehicles, including tricycles must continue to limit their passengers to the number earlier established and enforce the wearing of face masks by all passengers. Defaulters will be prosecuted and their vehicles confiscated by the Task force.

14. We have taken these measures at in the best interest of our State, to protect our lives, businesses, and jobs as well as, to prevent our troubled economy from suffering irreparable damage.

15. This also means that, residents now bear much greater responsibility to stop and prevent our State from suffering the exponential and potentially devasting spread of the virus being experienced across the country.

16. As I have stated earlier, there is nothing to worry about the increasing number of positive cases as such is not unexpected in the light of the intensification of contact- tracing and increased testing of suspected cases.

17. As 60% of the positive cases recorded in the State are connected with oil company workers, we have initiated a meeting with all the major oil companies to work out strategies on how we can stop this trend and stop the risk this category of workers now pose to the State.

18. Furthermore, Government is investigating the rumored or suspected outbreak of the virus at Bonny Island.

19. Our team of medical personnel led by the Commissioner for Health has visited Bonny Island and collected samples from suspected cases for analysis and immediate intervention should the results indicate the outbreak of the virus in the area.

20. Finally, our intelligence has intercepted a clandestine plan by some criminal elements led by Bobosky to cause security breaches in the State by instigating violence and burning down churches in Khana, Eleme, Gokana, Tai and Oyigbo Local Government Areas of the State.

21. We want to assure all residents that the State Government is fully ready and prepared to deal with the situation and continue to guarantee the protection of lives and property throughout the State.

22. We implore all residents to be vigilant and report all suspicious characters and movements in their neighbourhoods to security agencies.

23. As a further security measure, we have decided to impose a nighttime curfew on all the 23 Local Government Areas of the State from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting from the 2nd of June 2020 until further notice.

24. Leaders and vigilante groups in our communities are to work with the security agencies to enforce the curfew in their localities and arrest and prosecute anyone that violates the curfew order.

25. As a government, we are doing our best and will continue to spare no efforts to protect our State and advance the best interest of our people. Nothing can scare, deter or derail us from this path.

26. And so, we urge our people to stop the fake news on social media; stop the baseless bickering, the needless blame game, and the seditious rumours that does no good to our image or provide any solution to the common challenges that we face.

27. Rather, we should all come together, put our fate in our own hands and work for the common good of all, whether as individuals, families or as communities.

28. This is the only way to spare our State, our people and our economy from the devastating effects of the corona pandemic at this time.

29. We cannot stop appreciating our health workers who have continued to put their lives at risk in the forefront of this battle so the rest of us can be safe and secure. We cannot thank you enough. Only God can reward you in his fulness.

30. We call on all residents to continue to support the Government and pray for God’s gracious intervention in the affairs of the State.

31. Thank you and God bless you all.
Politics / Where Did We Go Wrong? by sarris(m): 4:20pm On May 14, 2020
This question has been on my mind over and over again; where did we as a nation got it wrong, till we have degenerated to this abysmal state. Look at the invitation, this was when Nigeria was highly respected in the world, our leaders were held in high esteem. How did we get to this point?

Politics / Re: Opinion: Nigerian Values – Food For Thought By Ndidi Uwechue by sarris(m): 7:15am On Apr 21, 2020
Funny as it is, unfortunately that is the sad truth; But it is deliberate. D Politicians knows what they are doing, keep the people poor and make them look for food continually, with that they will not ask for good governance. Of course who will ask for quality education, good health care system, constant power, standard road network when he is hungry..........He will ask for food as priority. Reason why the North with all the years in power is still the poverty capital of the world.

Another sad truth l have come to notice is that the politicians(Apc, Pdp, apga, etc) are united in stealing our resources and keep the people in poverty while the people are divided in defending them, fighting for them and even killing for them, Shame.

The politicians (Apc, Pdp, apga, upp, youth party etc) are not interested in developing this country, the power to grow and develop this country lies in our hands (The Citizens) and if you are serious for this joke of a country to develop you should be calling for a total review of the system, not 2023 election, not presidency being zoned to a particular area. Only when the system is reviewed and restructured for deliberate growth and development are we going to progress as a nation. With this current structure, even if you bring European, American and Arab leaders to come and run this country they will fail. The country is structured to fail. Since 1960, No light, no water, no standard road, unemployment, poor health facility, insecurity; Don't deceive yourself that is the design.

When election comes Politicians buy you food and promise you Heaven on Earth because they know you are hungry, they know they are not going there to make any change, They re going to steal because the system has been designed to make it very easy for them to steal. So goes the cycle on and on and on. Nigerian Youths wise up and rise up to save this country. Stay safe and safe life.

Politics / 2016 Budget Has Not Being Padded Says Lai Mohammed. by sarris(m): 4:22pm On Feb 20, 2016
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said on Saturday said that the 2016 budget was not padded because the total figure voted for all ministries had not exceeded N6.08 trillion.

Briefing newsmen in Lagos, he said: “The total for every ministry has remained exactly the same as what was submitted to the National Assembly.

“A lot has been said about the budget. Let make clear that nobody can ever accuse this government of padding any budget.

“The total of all ministries put together has not exceeded N6.08 trillion that was submitted. It is factually incorrect to say that the budget was padded.

“This is the first time in the history of this country that a government will embark what is called zero based budget.

“Before now, the budget system was what was called an enveloped system. In an envelope system, there is no justification as to why we need N30 billion for a structure.”

“This year, we decide that every ministry must have a zero based budget. In other word, you must justify and explain why you need N100 billion.

“This is very good system, the soft ware for it was also very different. The personnel were not used to it,” he said.

“Now, in the process we got to National Assembly. What the ministers do is to have a broad overview of the budget. The template used by the Budget Office is uniform for all ministers.”

The minister also said exports, balance of trade, Gross Domestic Product were responsible for currency appreciation and depreciation.

“Before now we use to sell crude for about 100 dollar per barrel which means if we produce two million barrels per day, you have something in the region of 200 million dollar less the expenditure of production and others.

“But today for the same two million barrels, you have less than 60 million dollar less the cost of production.”

“Clearly if your major source of exchange is crude and it has gone down from 100 per cent, you have lost 70 per cent of your source.

“Secondly, if your balance of trade is surplus, in other word, if you export more than you import, then you are going to have less money to settle other countries.

“What the government is doing is to ensure that the little resources we have are properly managed. Part of decision we took was Treasury Single Account.

“Others include blocking all sort form of corruption and diversify economy so that we can get foreign exchange for other sources,” he said.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Wow Job After A Big Disapointment. by sarris(m): 1:52pm On Nov 05, 2015

My heart is filled with joy.

Don't know were to start from.
We Nairalanders especially know what it is to get a CAREER job these days.

After years of thinking, wishing and hoping, I got a job about 4months ago in lagos.

I happily relocated from warri to Lagos in order to start the job.

Sadly, not upto 4 months, I lost the job for strange reasons I just could not understand. The HR started giving me motivational talks that "not that i'm not capable but they have reasons to reduce staff strength... bla bla bla".

It was a fair enough job and I had to start from square 1.

I was just thinking why would God grant me a job and I happily announced it to everyone, relocated to far Lagos and just to loose the job within 2 months.

In all these, God was preparing a plate of fries rice and salad for me.

About 3weeks ago, I posted on nairaland that I was at an interview in VI and that I needed some likes for goodluck.

Today, I just got a new job as an Officer 1 in a leading company in Nigeria at VI.

I know as a lot of Job testimonies are trailing on Nairaland, yours will certainly be next.

Job testimonies will begin to occupy front page even more than celebrity stories.

Thanks to NL for all beautiful interview tips. They were exceptional helpful.

One guy posted something on Interview tips about a month ago, and it was a blessing to me.

#MyJoyIsFull. So shall yours too be full in Jesus Name.
Congrats man,this will be permanent.

I feel no sorrow or pitance for whoever concocted this delirious lie. When the President will shock you, your eyes will become as dry as the desert. You are speculating about the names you would like to see on the list, instead of the names PMB will want to see on the list. Only a fool, will look at the recent events that happened, in terms of appointments, and still bring forth this trash as fact. Whoever thought up this fictitious and highly unrealistic list must be a very bad gambler. None, of this names will find their way on the real list. I repeat, not one name will be on the official list. Bunch of nincompoops.
If only u read d national dailies it would hv been better putting up an argument with u.
Romance / Re: I Don't Want To Regret My Decision And Miss Out On What Is For Me. Pls Advice by sarris(m): 8:16am On Sep 06, 2015
Bonita101n2:
I was formerly engaged to a very nice guy who luckily for me was very rich and also got a very good job while we were dating in an oil firm. Unfortunately it did not work out due to external factors (folks). After healing and all, I started to open up again and have and still meeting a lot of men, both rich and not so rich, bad and good etc.

My problem here is that maybe having dated someone that was very rich and also having met and meeting still very rich guy, I'm finding it difficult settling for less. I met this wonderful guy who I'm also attracted to but he is not very rich. Meanwhile, I do have another suitor or two who are extremely rich but I'm not so attracted to them and I know marriage, that attraction is important.

I really like this guy but then again, I start battling with the fact he is not so rich as the previous and the others and what people might say in me settling for less. Even one time he visited, while I was trying to talk to my brother about him, before I could finish, my brother had already said who is this guy that does not seem like he's rich.

It's now making have conflicting feelings and thoughts and I don't want to miss out on a good person but what if I force and maybe get attracted to those other rich suitors but my mind is more on the not so rich.

Please advise sincerely and judging. Thank you.
Who exactly re u getting married to d man or his money?
