Politics › Igbo Presidency In 2023 Dicey – APGA Chairman by sarrki(op): 7:49am On Mar 01, 2019 |
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Dr Victor Oye, has said going by the pattern of voting in the Saturday’s presidential poll in the South-East, the possibility of the Igbo producing the President of the country in 2023 is dicey. The South-East geopolitical zone voted overwhelmingly for the Peoples Democratic Party in the election. Speaking at a press conference on Thursday in Amawbia, near Awka, the Anambra State capital, Oye blamed the Igbo for always putting their “eggs in one basket.” He said the Igbo should stop playing politics of emotions and face what he called the “reality of the country’s monolithic political structure.” He said, “For me, I believe the Igbo play more of politics of emotion than politics of pragmatism. They are not realistic; they always pander to emotionalism. “Everything to them is all about a particular interest. Once they make up their mind to go towards a particular direction, that is where a sizeable number of them will go. “So, I’m not optimistic about 2023 Igbo presidency going by what has happened now.” He said the Igbo should come together as a people to discuss their common interest. He added, “Their common problem is unity. They cannot always come together and they are easily swayed by extraneous things as demonstrated in the last two elections of 2015 and 2019. “Igbo should realign themselves and re-determine the options before them. From what happened last Saturday, the Igbo people worked as a team; but in the end, they lost. They won the battle and lost the war. “ They asserted themselves, showing they can make things happen. It shows that if they pool their resources together and work under one political party, they will make more foray. “Ndigbo need to play at the national level and not ethnocentric regional politics, knowing that Nigeria is a monolithic political structure.” https://punchng.com/igbo-presidency-in-2023-dicey-apga-chairman/ |

Mynd44: Simple answer.
As much as they like APC and Atiku was not a viable option, President Buhari didn't do enough as president to deserve the type of support he got in 2015.
He did not do enough to justify the sacrifices made for him.
He didn't meet a lot of people's expectation
He might not have totally failed but his performance isn't high up there either.
We want to sit here and ask why people didn't turn up and turn out for a president who was slow to act on a lot of issues? Seriously?
The people saw that and that made them decide to either not vote or not vote for him. What the president should do instead of you asking why SW leaders didn't mobilize people is to look at where he is lacking and take action. I agree with your submission Baba was slow in some decision making Especially on National issues Also he should rejigig his security apparatus to give it a National outlook He should be bold and apt in his decision making Keeping quiet makes him weak |

0 1' FEATURED Presidential election, grand theft of people’s will – Atiku Published February 27, 2019 Tobi Aworinde, Abuja The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, has called the just concluded presidential elections a grand theft of the will of Nigerians. Abubakar, who spoke during a World Press Conference at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, on Wednesday, noted that democracy was a government of the people by the people only when the people’s choice prevailed. He said, “That did not happen on Saturday, February 23, 2019. On election day, we saw the implementation of grand theft of the people’s will. “In Akwa Ibom, for instance, the results showed a statistical impossibility of a 62 per cent drop in voter numbers from the 2015 elections, even where voter registration and PVC collection rates were much higher than in 2015. This is where voter suppression took place. “Our party made these observations and complaints before the elections that there were plans to implement voter suppression on PDP or opposition strongholds and voter increase in APC strongholds https://punchng.com/presidential-election-a-grand-theft-of-peoples-will-atiku/ |
