PoliticsTrump Accused Me Of Killing Christians In Nigeria-buhari by sarrki(op): 11:35pm On Sep 08, 2020
TRUMP ACCUSED ME OF KILLING CHRISTIANS IN NIGERIA BUT I TOLD HIM FARMERS-HERDERS’ CLASH WAS CULTURAL, NOT ETHNIC OR RELIGIOUS — BUHARI
For the first time since he met the United States President Donald Trump in Washington in April 2018, President Muhammadu Buhari disclosed Monday that Trump unequivocally accused him of killing Christians in Nigeria.

However, he said he defended himself, telling Trump that the conflict between farmers and herders in Nigeria was caused by cultural matters and not dictated by ethnic or religious factors.

Buhari, who said he was put on the spot by Trump when he was alone with him, alleging that he (Buhari) was slaughtering Christians in Nigeria, added that the question startled him but he put his emotion under control.

The president, who made the disclosure when he deviated from his closing speech at the end of a two-day ministerial retreat in the Presidential Villa, said he was the only African leader from less developed countries that was invited by Trump at the time.

He asked his cabinet members how they would feel if they were the ones put on the spot and confronted with such a grave allegation, disclosing that he further told Trump that the conflicts were caused by successive leaders of the country who tampered with established grazing routes.

According to him, only Nigerian leaders in the First Republic kept grazing routes while subsequent ones encroached on them, adding that the crisis was older than him and much more than Trump whom he said he was still older than.

“I believe I was about the only African among the less developed countries the President of United States invited, and when I was in his office, only myself and himself. Only God is my witness. He looked at me in the face. He said ‘why are you killing Christians?’

“I wonder if you were the person how you will react. I hope what I was feeling inside did not betray my emotion. So, I told him that the problem between the cattle rearers and stagnant farmers I know is older than me, not to talk of him (Trump). I think I am a couple of years older than him.

“With climate change and population growth and the culture of the cattle rearers, if you have 50 cows and they eat grass, any route to your water point, they will follow it, it doesn’t matter whose farm it was.

“The first republic set of leadership was the most responsible leadership we ever had. I asked the minister of agriculture to get a gazette of the early 60s which delineated the cattle routes where they used meagre resources then to put earth dams, wind mills even sanitary department.

“So, any cattle rearer that allowed his cattle to go to somebody’s farm is arrested, taken before the court, the farmer is called to submit his bill and if he can’t pay, the cattle are sold, but subsequent leaders, VVIPs (very very important persons) they encroached on the cattle routes, they took over the cattle rearing areas.

“So, I tried and explained to him this has got nothing to do with ethnicity or religion. It is a cultural thing which the respective leadership was failing the nation,” he said.

Buhari also spoke about his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the promises it made to Nigerians when it was campaigning for election, pleading with the elite to be fair in their assessment of his government.

He asked them to reflect on the state of infrastructure and the price of crude oil per barrel in the international market before he came to power and what it was when he took over government activities.

He told members of his government to implore their friends to reflect on what his government has achieved, saying he’s doing his best with the two chances that God has given him to be in power.

He said: “The next problem I want to tell you is how we found ourselves when I say us I mean members of the APC, when we promised three things, security, economy and fighting corruption. We repeated the same thing last year.

“But I want the Nigeria elite please encourage us and judge us fairly when we came. Between 1999 and 2014, I will like you to please check the average (crude oil) production was 2.1m barrels per day, the average cost was $100 per barrel.

“When we came it collapse to $37 to $38 per barrel and the militants were unleashed on the administration, the production went down.

“I want you to please reflect what was the condition of the infrastructure then in spite the earnings, the roads, there was no power and up to now there is no power. Where did the money go?

“So, please encourage your friends the elite to reflect on what this administration has done, what APC has done and what we have achieved. Well I am doing my best, God has given me two chances.”

PoliticsEx Wife Of Amazon Ceo Mackenzie Scott Has Become The World's Richest Woman by sarrki(op): 6:49am On Sep 03, 2020
New York (CNN Business)MacKenzie Scott — philanthropist, author and ex-wife of Amazon (AMZN) CEO Jeff Bezos — is now the wealthiest woman in the world.

Scott's net worth is now $68 billion, propelling her past L'Oréal heiress Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, according to Bloomberg's Billionaire index.
Scott received a quarter of Bezos' Amazon shares in the couple's divorce settlement in 2019. That equated to a 4% stake that was worth more than $35 billion at the time.
She is now the 12th wealthiest person in the world.
In July, Scott announced that she had already donated nearly $1.7 billion to 116 organizations that included four historically Black colleges and universities. She described the organizations as focusing on one of nine "areas of need" ranging from racial equity to climate change.
Last year, Scott also signed onto the Giving Pledge initiative, founded by Warren Buffett and Bill and Melinda Gates. The initiative encourages the world's richest people to dedicate a majority of their wealth to charitable causes.

Bezos, the world's richest man, hasn't signed the pledge, according to a list of signatories.
Amazon's stock jumped roughly 28% over the last three months, and is up more than 90% so far this year, according to data from Refinitiv. The soar in shares increased the wealth of Bezos to over $200 billion.

Scott's bump up in wealth follows a surge in tech stock gains, which has led to other billionaire ranking shake ups at the top.
Earlier this week, Elon Musk surpassed Mark Zuckerberg to become the third richest person in the world. Tesla saw a 12% stock gain after Tesla's 5-1 stock split on Monday

Ndigbo demand more as Enugu airport comes alive

Nwodo extols Ugwuanyi’s leadership qualities as state clocks 29

Excitement and gratitude filled the air yesterday as the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, was reopened for commercial flight, exactly one year and six days after it was closed for major rehabilitation and runway expansion.

Although the loud drumming from several musical and cultural troupes as well as the long wait for the ceremony underscored how much the people valued the re-opening, leaders insist that the rehabilitation was not enough to assuage the over 50 years marginalisation and injustice against Ndigbo.

For them, more infrastructure in the zone, the presidency of Igbo extraction, and restructuring of the country will help in wiping away cries of marginalisation by the people.

Indeed the large turn-out of Igbo leaders, including four governors of the South East, Ohanaeze Ndigbo led by the President General, Nnia Nwodo; traditional rulers led by their chairman, Igwe Alfred Achebe; religious leaders led by Archbishop Christopher Ede; National Assembly members, serving ministers and the academia among others demonstrated the unity of purpose in the clamour for an international airport in the zone.

But the Federal Government stated that it was poised to do more, stressing that the timely completion of the airport, even with the ravaging coronavirus disease, was a demonstration of its commitment to ensure equity and return the country on the path of economic development.

Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, who also announced the immediate resumption of local and international flights on September 5, stated that N1 billion had been released for ongoing renovation work at the terminal buildings of the local and international wings.

The runway was expanded to three kilometres to accommodate bigger aircraft.

He stated that the airport was closed on August 24 last year due to its dilapidated state, adding that the extended runway came with a taxiway, car park, fencing, terminal building rehabilitation, instrument landing facilities, Communication VSat, New DHF radio and airfield lightning for night operation, among others.

“With these achieved, we will now focus on delivering the terminal and cargo buildings while ensuring that we give this place the best in line with international best standards,” he added.

Sirika, who was full of gratitude to President Muhammad Buhari for the timely release of N10 billion special grant for the project, said that several challenges like lack of bitumen, drainages, lockdown as well as the sale of the construction company PW were faced during the rehabilitation work.

Meanwhile, Governor Ugwuanyi, at the weekend, joined leaders and members of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, at their secretariat in Enugu to commemorate the 29th anniversary of the state’s creation.

At the occasion, Nwodo, extolled Ugwuanyi’s exemplary leadership qualities.

He described the governor as a leader, who does not promote division among the political class and beyond.

He used the opportunity to highlight other remarkable achievements of Ugwuanyi’s administration with the state’s lean resources.

“There is no other state in the country that has paid December salary two times (13th month) except Enugu. We have noticed with admiration the emphasis of your capital development. I noticed the number of primary and secondary schools in all the councils renovated every year under your administration. What progresses the world today is education. I noticed the number of general hospitals and health centres springing up in the rural areas,” he said

Considering the disaffection of a section of the south-east with the Buhari administration and juxtaposing that with those who have been operational in their dissent against the administration, is it not logical that the opposition secure the fort of varied voices by working to extirpate these gag bills?
OpinionNigeria Published 4 hours ago on August 30, 2020 By OpinionNigeria Fredrick Nwabufo
The so-called Igbo struggle is an enterprise. Individuals from the south-east, who find themselves in position of political influence, hawk the ‘’Igbo agitation’’ as merchandise in self-seeking ventures. These politicians pursue personal gains robed in the collective agenda. And this is largely because of the people who have become addlepated by barbiturated sentiments, conspiracy theories, and nerve-raising nothings.

There are 15 lawmakers from the south-east at the senate and more of this number at the house of representatives, but no single region-centred legislation has reached fruition. In March 2020, these lawmakers in league with their colleagues approved the $22.7 billion loan request of President Muhammadu Buhari unfettered.

But a week after some public-spirited Nigerians raised the alarm that the south-east was excluded in the projects the loan was meant for, these lawmakers in caucuses retreated to playing to the gallery and lacquering their action. They resumed the accustomed showmanship and grandstanding in the face of an obvious fait accompli. Nothing happened afterwards.

Also, most of the lawmakers from the south-east are members of the opposition — the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) — but clearly, they have failed in providing leadership in opposition. Some contentious bills were passed right under the stoned watch of these lawmakers. Currently, there are two anti-citizen bills – on hate speech and social media. But these lawmakers do not think they are worth advocating over. These are bills targeted at garrisoning the civic space, the media and the populace.

Considering the disaffection of a section of the south-east with the Buhari administration and juxtaposing that with those who have been operational in their dissent against the administration, is it not logical that the opposition secure the fort of varied voices by working to extirpate these gag bills?

Perhaps, the bills when passed will put a hedge around them – to protect them from minatory probes by their constituents whom they have been remiss in representing. The legislation serves them.

There is now an exhumation of the interred National Water Resources Bill which reposes control of the country’s water resources – both over and underground – in the executive, and which requires Nigerians to get a licence before drilling a borehole (in a nation that cannot provide pipe-borne water for citizens). This legislation, with implications of slavish proportions, is already at an advanced stage at the house of representatives – where there are lawmakers from the south-east — which will be maximally impacted by this bill when passed. This is where Igbo political leaders, particularly those in the national assembly, should be leading the charge. Whatever development we want in the south-east must proceed from the law; so, change must begin from parliament.

Why have I zeroed in on lawmakers from the south-east? Well, because they are the representatives of the people of the region and they form a bulk of the opposition in the legislature. Naturally, they should wear the shoes of the commoner in the region and feel his pain. They should be the voice of the region. They should be in the vanguard of whatever the people are agitating for provided it is within the remit of the constitution. I have no doubt that whatever they set to achieve for the region in parliament, regional and national consciences will be mobilised in support as long as the agenda is not jaundiced.

But these politicians have commoditised the Igbo interest, blaring hot air on issues affecting the region. They know the people are very emotive and unthinking, so they flagellate the usual marginalisation slant and other conspiracy theories to thrust themselves into public consciousness. And they remain there by constantly reinventing the wheel and stroking the people sore with sentimental nothings.

Some unarmed young men were mowed down by guilty bullets in Enugu a few days ago. Though the DSS said two of its operatives were killed in an encounter with some Biafra agitators. This incident, no doubt, deserves a thorough investigation and the culprits punished at the end of a credible hearing. We cannot keep losing citizens to summary executions. I believe this is a matter on which the voice of lawmakers from the south-east should be loudest. They should not only speak up when it is politically convenient to do so.

I have been threatened by these agitators, but I strongly believe it is against natural propriety if my voice is muted out of grudge on this case. Every Nigerian deserves to live; even if there is an offence, the law must take its course. Summary executions are a reprise of the military era; they have no place in a democracy.

Really, the biggest adversary of the Igbo is not the Hausa, the Yoruba or the Fulani, but fiendish leaders of the ethnic group who secrete their interest in the ‘’Igbo agenda’’; who pit the people against their neighbours and other groups, and who flagellate ethnic emotions for insular ends.
