The General Overseer of the Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel in Maryland, USA, Pastor Isaac Oyedepo, has announced Cancellation of church services for this weekend.

The decision was reached following the spread of COVID-19, also known as Coronavirus in most parts of US.

Oyedepo made the announcement on Facebook, adding that the decision is in line with the state of emergency declared by Governor Logan of Maryland.

“We will not be holding Sunday Services this weekend @winnerschapelmd,” he announced.

“However, we are all encouraged to join a live broadcast streamed from our website and YouTube page. We are already victorious. #MDOnFire #RevivalFlames #NoFearHere.

“Although we are God’s children, we are still housed in a physical body. The health and safety of everyone who walks through our doors are of priority to us at Winners Chapel, Maryland @winnerschapelmaryland.

“We have kept up with the latest news update on the Coronavirus (COVID-19), and in response to the state of emergency declared by Governor Logan of Maryland, our public attendance services this weekend in church have been cancelled.

“We shall continue to keep close tabs with the news and reports from the CDC and local health authorities to know when it is safe to resume services in church.

“On account of this development, we encourage everyone to watch our live services this Sunday at 9 am. Remember that all things are working together for good for those that love the Lord.

“Please keep keeping everyone in prayer, our great nation as well as our world at large. There is power in prayer and the effectual fervent prayer of the righteous availeth much.”

PoliticsEmir Of Daura, Residents Hold Special Prayer Against Coronavirus by sarrki(op): 7:17pm On Mar 21, 2020
The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouq on Saturday led residents of Daura town in a special prayer against the new, deadly coronavirus pandemic.

The 84-year-old Emir, during the prayer session held at the foreground of his palace, asked residents to see the horrific virus as a test from the Almighty Allah and intensify prayers against the outbreak, along with other untimely death-related diseases.

The Emir, while describing the outbreak as deadliest than Boko Haram, believes that if it persists, in the next two months everyone will find his way into begging.

He, however, directed all Qur’anic school teachers and clerics of all sects to immediately shut down their respective centers in strict compliance with the state government’s policy.

“It’s unfortunate that Saudi authority has suspended both lesser and annual hajj pilgrimage in fear of the outbreak,” Umar added.

Nigeria currently has 12 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus which has infected more than 250,000 people across the world and killed over 10,000.

I do agree with ohaneze it’s fishy

Having said that,

People may be sick with the virus for 1 to 14 days before developing symptoms. The most common symptoms of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) are fever, tiredness, and dry cough. Most people (about 80%) recover from the disease without needing special treatment.
More rarely, the disease can be serious and even fatal. Older people, and people with other medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease), may be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill.
People may experience:
cough
fever
tiredness
difficulty breathing (severe cases)

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has called Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuayi, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a septuagenarian who tested negative to the dreaded Coronavirus.

Shocked by the woman’s death, a lady who claimed to be the daughter accused the Enugu University Teaching Hospital, ESUTH, of negligence. She also accused the Enugu State government of unpreparedness for the virus, despite the fact that the outbreak was reported in December.

The OYC in a statement signed by the National President, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and the General Secretary, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, said: “Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi should investigate the death of a 70 year old woman suspected of having the dreaded Coronavirus irrespective of the accusations of the family that the woman died due to negligence of Enugu Government.

We are confident that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi will respond to this matter and condole the family for the loss

“We also call on the South East governors to shut down public places especially where there are crowd of more than 30 persons as a precautionary measures to curb the spread of Coronavirus in the South East, as many

people are set to return home from abroad during the Easter festive season. There’s an urgent need to put measures to protect our citizens.

“The OYC commends the Federal Government for the precautionary measures taken so far, especially in the areas of closing of borders, shutting down all Federal Government schools and colleges, including the Mallam Aminu Kano Int’l Airport, Akanu Ibiam Int’l Airport Enugu and PH Int’l Airport.

The imposed travel ban on 13 countries with high cases of Coronavirus is highly commendable. The Federal Government should also provide preventive measures at all motor parks, as there are poor preventive measures in all the motor parks across the country

Some hospitals in Lagos state have been receiving patients suffering from chloroquine poisoning, according to Gboyega Akosile, chief press secretary to the governor.

Quoting Oreoluwa Finnih, senior special assistant to the governor on health, Akosile warned people against massive consumption of chloroquine as a measure to fight coronavirus.

The demand for chloroquine, an oral artemisinin-based monotherapies (oAMTs) for malaria treatment, soared a few hours after President Donald Trump said the drug had been approved to treat COVID-19.

But Stephen Hahn, commissioner of the US Food and Drug Administration, contradicted the American president, saying the agency was still working to examine all possibilities.

TheCable had reported how residents trooped to pharmaceutical stores across Lagos and Abuja on Thursday evening to purchase the drug.

In a tweet on Friday, Akosile warned people against harming themselves through the indiscriminate use of the drug.

“Hospitals now receiving patients suffering from Chloroquine Poisoning, says Gov @jidesanwoolu’s SSA on Health, Dr @Oreoluwa_Finnih. She urged people against massive consumption of Chloroquine as a measure to fight #Coronavirus,” he tweeted.

Earlier, health experts had dismissed speculations that the drug could be used in fighting the virus.

Drama as Appeal Court reinstates Ifeanyi Ubah as senator
Published March 20, 2020

Kamarudeen Ogundele, Abuja

The Court of Appeal, Abuja, on Thursday voided the order of an Abuja High Court which sacked Ifeanyi Ubah, as the senator representing Anambra South.

A three-man panel of Justices of the appellate court held that the judgment delivered by Justice Bello Kawu of a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory was a nullity because the suit was unlawfully instituted.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared Ubah, the candidate of the Young Progressive Party, as winner of the February 23, 2019, Anambra South Senatorial election.

His election was also upheld by the Anambra State National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal and the Court of Appeal.

However, Justice Bello Kawu, while delivering a judgment on April 11, 2019, in a suit filed by one Anani Chuka, nullified Ubah’s election for allegedly submitting a forged National Examination Council certificate to INEC.

After sacking Ubah, the court ordered INEC to withdraw his certificate of return and issue a fresh one to Dr Obinna Uzoh of the Peoples Democratic Party, who came second in the election.

Justice Kawu on January 17, 2020 also refused Ubah’s application seeking to set aside the judgment because he was denied fair hearing.

Dissatisfied, Ubah on March 6, 2020 through his lead lawyer, Dr Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), approached the Court of Appeal to set aside the judgment because the originating summons was incompetent.

In the unanimous judgment read by Justice Stephen Adah, the court held that its findings revealed that the originating summons that led to Ubah’s sack was not signed by any legal practitioner.

There was however a mild drama after the judgment as some policemen stormed the court premises to arrest a lawyer identified to be Uzoh’s son.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Lagos state chapter has stated the level of coronavirus infection in the nation does not yet warrant ban on religious gathering and activities.

It however said religious organisation, especially churches and mosques, must take proactive measures to safeguard members from infection.

It also urged governments to stop at nothing to secure the borders and contain the pandemic in the nation.

Chairman Lagos CAN, Apostle Alexander Bamgbola, told reporters on Wednesday that Nigeria must do everything to win the war against the virus.

He said: “The Federal Government must further secure our borders. Many nations are doing this very seriously now. We must also act now as a nation.

“Our nation cannot afford to welcome or accommodate coronavirus in our land. God forbid it in Jesus name. “

On suggestions that religious gatherings should be banned like in some European nations, Bamgbola said: “We have not got to that point and we believe we won’t get there.

“We are watching the situation very closely to know what we must do. God has kept it away from us because we cannot contain the pandemic here.

“We believe we will never get to the point of having to ban all services and churches will be grounded.”

He called on churches to observe precautions and safety measures so that worshippers are not exposed to the virus.

On the gas explosion at Abule Ado on Sunday, Bamgbola sympathised with victims and affected.

He asked churches and good-spirited Christians to support the N2b Disaster Relief Fund initiated by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

“We strongly appeal to all the ministries and churches in Lagos state to contribute generously to this fund. No contribution will be too small.

“We encourage you to please send your cash contributions directly to the acoounts of the fund as indicated by our dear Governor.
