Kobojunkie:Madam let me add to ur post as a professional earning living from the construction industry in Nigeria. We mostly use bitumen felt plus asphalt in the construction of over 90% of roads in Nigeria. These materials i mentioned are enemies with water that's y u see that most road construction projects are usually hurriedly done during the dry season as no meaningful construction can be made in rainy season. However ma, there's a way the use of the materials can still do more if the right content and ADEQUATE mixture are done. But u know corruption is our bane in Nigeria. A contractor that will do the job must have used half of the quoted price to settle the Government that gave out the brief and would be left with little to do the job. A wise contractor is in business to make profit, hence he does a mediocre job. After 3-5 months of construction. pot holes are becoming feasible. Point corruption+government+contractor Government can also help reduce the problems of bad roads through improvement of Drainage channeling. Like i said above, water and road material used here are enemies. If the volume of water on the roads are reduced, then roads may last longer than it does last presently. Point 2 Government Lastly, alternative road construction material is what we professional call interlocking stones/pave locking stones. These might be expensive but its a french of water. The more water gets into it, its gets more compacted. We use it here in Nigeria but not as we use felt and asphalt MHumble suggestion |
190:Akamu and whitish substance |
Lagosboy:Double GBAM for u. some roads in Lagos are an eye sore. My abode isn't far from Adelabu in Surulere. Pot holes have spoilt my car countless times. Pitiful our action Governor is from my Constituency. SMH. I don't know how pure water nylon or refused will cause bad roads. We aren't talking flooding here but roads. This overzealous bigot have derailed this thread enough attempting a rebuttal to what is indefensible. SMH for some people |
M M M:Bhusayor |
Fhemmmy:I wouldn't be harsh on u cos u are one of the few pple i admire on this site. Bur sir, throwing nylon, paper garbages etc is one of the problems but just a very minute/small fraction of the problem. The larger bulk stops on the govts table. This thread is to discuss the bad roads which is not the fault of the citizens of Lagos that the roads keeps getting destroyed few months after resurfacing. its got nothing to do with nylon, refuse etc. Tell government contractors to use the best materials in resurfacing the roads for it to stand the true test of time |
ifyalways:You people should have ur facts b4 posting or supporting whatever trash the government says at most times. Nigerians have hardly enjoyed any 'real' dividend of Democracy or let me say any real dividend from their Natural resources or from the government. I say it Boldly that apart from the Likes of papa Jakande and partially Fashola all the past rulers of Lagos state are thieves and criminals including Oyinlola, Marwa, Tinubu etc The problem has always been with us but if any of the past government in Lagos had tried to emulate/did half of what fashola is trying to do now, Lagos would have become a 'real' MEGA city and the drainage challenges would have been reduced to its barest minimum. Yes its true that many 'Nigerians' block drainages with refuse. In fact i witnessed one my self, BUT to be realistic, that is just about 20-30% of the problems. The drainage system in Lagos was poorly constructed and needs to be reconstructed and PROPERLY channeled. Most of it were constructed way back b4 the population grew to about 18million. Now its needs to be reconstructed and properly channeled. In VI for instance there are drainages but no place for the water to be channeled to whenever it rains. This i witnessed on Sunday in popular areas such as Adeola odeku, Silver bird galleria side up to mint, federal palace hotel and NTA all in ahmadu bello way, to where we have Eko hotel at Adetokunbo Ademola street. This things cant be done by the citizens except by the government. I am in the building and construction industry here in Lagos, what ever i post is a fact and not some meaningless and senseless conjectures to aimlessly defend/rebuke the government |
If anyone choose to go, fine by me. The post wasn't mine but that of ogaga4luv. It was brought out to clarify something and i haven't told u guys im returning to my old ways. I am now born again. ![]() |
upendo 98:Its no longer called 'JAMB' its now called 'UTME' JAMB= Joint Admission and Matriculation Board. Its an examination body that determines who goes into a tertiary institution upon graduating from High school. i.e After High school, you will write a JAMB exam for University, Polytechnic and Monotechnic, once u pass and meet the 'cut-off' mark, u are on your way to any of the tertiary institutions within the 36 states in Nigeria and FCT. No aspiring full time student can gain admission without being certified by JAMB. Now its called UTME= Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. The difference between UTME and JAMB is that, JAMB is splitted into 3 but UTME is a combined examination Platform, Additional info. I did JAMB in 1998. Pls tell no 1 i said so ![]() |
