@Twinstaiye Congrats for the good work done. I thank God for the good things He has done. Evry new child carries a blessing to the family, I wish your family divine favor, joy, peace and break-throughs. @Olofofo Thanks for the info on key maker, but I was refering to FTA related key maker. I don't know if you have seen the file I loaded to the groups ( I think it's named all loaders), it has the key maker too. @Enitan Roger that, I was thought of inviting Adewest down Ghana, just that circumstances have changed this plan, however at a due time I may get any of them here ( i.e. if no headway is made). @Salamander Pls. expect my call soon. Was Ghana TV's appearance on sirius a flash - it lasted less than a day. @All Pls. those with the group access should verify what the file named fix can do. want to know if it can really do the fix (esp. those with fried decoder) i think there are degrees of "the" fry. |

@chuks My sincere condolence at this time of grief. Be strong and let your heart take courage as God has given you His strength and is with you. @captain Thanks for your cover. @George D, Enitan & all Thanks for your concern about the gold coast brothers. We are doing well but for "some" of us some contributions to the forum can be intensified after we have experienced new things or made discoveries helpful to other members of the forum. This may seem like, then less activities of FTA - no. Still in the FTA spirit, there is a great interest in what enitan calls the software of FTA (SoFTA) and I am behind him in spirit even if no physical contributions can be made. Enitan, I just loaded a file to the G-group, I want you to make an assessment to find out if can help fix those fried recievers of other members. I have not done any search on it yet. The other folder is just the loader for most strong receivers. @all what is a key maker and what does it do. my name is Sathob |

enitan2002:Man don't get me wrong. I am not saying some of mytv channels with V pol. If that's what my post means then let's all get it right for last time. I have Mytv Africa channel with two pols on different frequencies, my tv Africa (H) and my tv Africa (V). the patch only open Mytv Africa (V) and won't open my tv Africa (H). No other channel is opened, save urself the stress. my name is sathob. |
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Official Thread of Free-to- Air Satellite TV [part 3] by sathob(m): 9:17pm On Mar 14, 2009 |
@enitan I think you don't need to be confussed because the patch is working perfectly well. it's only when salamander wasn't sure whether it is compatible with his 4620 receiver that raised the issue of frying his decoder. The other issue is that whilst i have 2 signals for mytv all with green but different polarization, the patch opened with the signal with V pol and refused to open that of H pol. enitan2002:there is no way salamander will give that receiver out. it's not easy to come by one even the faulty one. one installer would release his to me for an exchange with 4663x, later he "swerved" me. |
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Official Thread of Free-to- Air Satellite TV [part 3] by sathob(m): 7:23pm On Mar 14, 2009 |
@Salamander u 've got to get a new phone a.s.a.p if not how can i get through with those infos anyway, i think that u should add 4660 pvr series to ur budget. u know how i am bent on getting 4620 if u wouldn't mind sell that to me make a top up and get a new one . And i don't think 4620 has usb for upgrade so it means we get the rs232 cable and a loader even if it can work with the patch. |

@Ecowas4all My physical lnb skew is like stretching ur arm torwards / facing the dish with ur palm facing the ground and the back of ur palm facing the sky just like the F-connector terminal on the lnb facing the ground. |
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Official Thread of Free-to- Air Satellite TV [part 3] by sathob(m): 11:56am On Mar 14, 2009 |
Ecowas4All: Interesting! It's only mytv that opens all others r off and it only opened mytv with V pol. mytv signal with H pol won't show. mystlcal pot belly? mmm! i don't see it that way but if u stop jogging it may be worse. |
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Official Thread of Free-to- Air Satellite TV [part 3] by sathob(m): 9:28am On Mar 14, 2009 |
@Ecowas4all This is what I experienced after I loaded the patch on a 4653x receiver; all mytv signal with H pol. won't open even after entering the code 6**9, but all mytv signals with V pol opened. I hope u get the pic with the H & V pol. You know, after you do auto scan u can have a channel repeating itself more than once with different frequencies and polarizations (H or V). |

Hi! great works and exhibition of FTA knowledge. It appears I have been in hibernation by posting here in the thread. I have to welcome myself to season 3. the level is getting higher (i.e if u ain't do anything 1.8m motorised installation and above, one's experience and contributions r limited). @all newbies there are 2 kinds of husbands in FTA, those who want to satisfy their cravings (just looking for codes to open scrambled channels, not wanting to work towards the success of the marriage, etc) and the true husbands married to FTA with their hearts, doing everything possible to make the relationship work; sacrficing their all to keep this thread alive. Just prove urself and don't attack anyone or get flared up b'cos of google group. |

@Badaru1 Jaeh! So ibi now that thing land, I thought it had lost it's way. Anyway, peace. @Salamander & Ecowas4All Men, I am in the system. I live among you like the wind . It's unfortunate I couldn't make it to your end last Sunday. There was so much trafic on my way because of the thanksgiving rally held at Lapaz. And the sad thing was that I had joined a Lapaz bound vehicle to your end the said date, it was late upon my arrival at Lapaz that I had to call it off. But I blame myself somehow for choosing a bad position for that 68E installation. A plantation, 20 meters away in the path of the signal messed me up. Upon changing the location I had green. Thanks for the support. I will "land" you some calls soon. Bless I |

@Captainus You can let the guys at the machine shop fabricate one for you (two u shapes with a welded bar with drilled holes attached to one end - the two u shapes holds together with a bolt and nut). it's quiet simple, it can make a firm hold on the prime focus scalar. @Ecowas Done. Respect |
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Official Thread of Free To Air Satellite TV (Part 2) by sathob(m): 1:31pm On Jan 08, 2009 |
@Captainus Ok! I hear you. I am waiting now for hon. Ecowas4all @Enitan Seen! I have my reservations to that. Forget not, we live in the region where a common thyristor is not known as an electronic component to the dealers/business people in electronic component shops. This is left for those with good electronic (design and servicing) engineering background. @Olofofo Thanks so much for yesterday, I have located the place. It's close to where I work. I will give you a call later. Respect |
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Official Thread of Free To Air Satellite TV (Part 2) by sathob(m): 10:54am On Jan 08, 2009 |
@Mr. Gem I side with you on the issue of servicing receivers and lnb. I think with your background in electronics, get your self the service engineers pocket book. it is a good guide. Aslo get this book on fundamentals of dvd player, it has comprehensive topic areas on mpeg2 and other coding and decoding methods, lenses and power supply which is similar to that of the receivers. About LNB servicing, well I tried to open one of my ku LNBs and found out it's not easy to access the circuitry unlike C-band LNBs. Respect |
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Official Thread of Free To Air Satellite TV (Part 2) by sathob(m): 10:44am On Jan 08, 2009 |
adewest: @Adewest Thanks for the reply. Light metal cast surfacing, are you refering to light steel sheet? Yes, C120 is ku but 0.3db. I called the shop in u.k and enquired from them about titanium 0.2db too, they recommended C120 for prime focus instead of titanium 0.2db. the later was designed for offset, but for the design, titanium 0.2db will be the best/preferable. Sharp 0.3dB white-case LNB, I understand is very good for fringe area reception. Please visit this site http://www.satellitesuperstore.co.uk/universallnb.htm Respect @Ecowas4all I am making a request for digisat LNB, it is 1500 Naira, if I am not mistaking. Would you like to get one for yourself? Respect |
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Official Thread of Free To Air Satellite TV (Part 2) by sathob(m): 3:17pm On Jan 07, 2009 |
@Olofofo I called you several times yesterday but no answer, I guessed you were busy. Digisat LNB, how much will it cost me to purchase and then sending by courier DHL or through the post as a registered parcel from your end to Ghana? |
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Official Thread of Free To Air Satellite TV (Part 2) by sathob(m): 3:05pm On Jan 07, 2009 |
@Adewest Our conversation still holds. I am getting the stuffs one after the other; thus the 2.4m Eurostar pan dish especially. The quotation I had from one dealer, to me, was too high GH₵300 which is about 30K (if I am not wrong). What do you think of this, converting a mesh dish to solid pan, I have access to aluminium sheet used for pan dish and the tools for fixing them up? Abi ibi precision that matters here? The focal length of the mesh is accurately calculated already and all I am doing here is to put the aluminium sheet in place of the mesh. I also want to know what you think of the Inverto C120 lnb in respect of fringe area reception? SATHOB |

@Ecowas4all Happy new year. I dey ooo, following this thread daily but can't contribute much,I did not take ur number the last time we met at Abdulai's place. However, I am getting myself ready to join the league of big dishes to hunt some European birds. I have secured one fuji lnb with the help of Salamander, I plan to secure some other lnbs for experimental purpose, like digisat, titanium gold 0.2db, c120 and sharp 0.3db used for fringe area reception. I am also looking forward to acquirng a solid pan dish but all may not be done overnight - ibi small small. But for now I need an old or used mesh dish without the net / mesh for transfromation my way in obedience to the known scientific principles. I really applaude your effort for the fibre mould stuff. It's a good idea to write down all our goals for FTA 2009, then we can track our progress. I hope to join you in the next meeting. @tox me too I like them Echo&Abra card well well but for the reasons listed above. @all Happy new year |

@Olofofo Thanks for the job done on George's pictures. @George_D I did not finish my post when I had to run out of my office for something else. you might as well use Stretch/skew options next next. Type the percentage reduction you want in the Horizontal and Vertical columns. Thanks |
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Official Thread of Free To Air Satellite TV (Part 2) by sathob(m): 6:30pm On Dec 16, 2008 |
@George_D Bros I see ur pix sizes are quite big. You may edit them with the software that come with windows operating system called PAINT. Just right click on your picture and select edit (if you have more than only paint you will have options to choose from), it will take you to PAINT platform. In the paint window, click on image and in the dropdown menu choose attributes and make your editing or resizing there. For now the width of your compass picture is 17 inches and the height is 12.5 it's very big. |

@all I congratulate man Adewest for being who he is. I am so much impressed at post so far from other members of the thread after toxnaija's confirmation of adewest's setup. Thanks to you man Toxnaija. @Adewest "We" have had the oportunity to work on a 5m fibre dish once and the "green" never surfaced. We definately will need tips from you. And with ref. to this linkwww.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-182209.32.html#msg2940128 we can arrange for that. |

@all I believe this piece will answer the question of why we insert dielectric into the LNB to view some channels on satellite. Ref. to Newnes Service Engineer’s Pocket book page 187 subtopic The polarizer, it states “Circular polarization may be converted into the linear form by inserting a block of dielectric material into the waveguide to act as a depolarizer. The piece below gives a detailed explanation to the issue of dielectric use. Linear Polarization The signals transmitted by satellites such as EUTELSAT, Astra, PAS 4, Arabsat 1 D, INTELSAT (Ku band only) and AsiaSat are sent by an antenna aboard the satellite that positions the microwave energy in either a relatively vertical (straight up and down) or horizontal (lying flat) polarization. For best reception of these signals, the pick up probe at the back of the waveguide must be oriented in the same plane, horizontal or vertical, as that of the desired satellite transponder. If the orientation of this pick up probe is not exactly matched to the satellite transponder's polarization, some of the signal will be lost. When a feedhorn has been adjusted for best reception of a horizontally polarized transponder, the overlapping vertically polarized transponders cannot be seen. If the feedhorn inadvertently is set somewhere between vertical and horizontal polarization, more than one TV channel can be seen at the same time, an unsatisfying viewing experience at best. A slight adjustment of polarity is usually necessary when you switch from bird to bird. The amount of variance from satellite to satellite is referred to as the polarization skew. Circular Polarization C band satellites such as the INTELSAT (C band only), Arabsat 1 C, Gorizont and Express spacecraft use an alternate polarization format known as circular polarization. For the best possible reception of circularly polarized satellite transmissions, you will need to use a feedhorn that has been constructed to receive these signals. Instead of beaming the microwave energy along a linear plane, whether vertical or horizontal, circular polarization is transmitted in a helical rotating pattern, with right hand circular rotating in a clockwise direction as seen from the satellite, and left hand circular signals rotating in a counterclockwise direction. Although standard linear feedhorns can still pick up any circular polarized signal, half of the available signal power will be lost. There are several manufacturers that offer special feedhorns that can receive both the linear and circular polarization formats. Many linearly polarized feedhorns also can be modified to receive circularly polarized signals with the addition of a rectangular insert made from a dielectric material such as Teflon.
