The best post I have seen on NL today. I have made these same points previously in order to assist these people get their Biafra but I guess they are not serious. Nowhere in any part of the world is a referendum given like that especially to a group who have no mandate, no plans, no structure, no tested ideas.

If anyone is shortsighted, it is Nigerians and their wish to hold on to the "British invented fraud" called Nigeria.We are talkng about ECOWAS and West Africa here not the EU or Europe. While it is true that ECOWAS members have a vote on who joins the group, nobody has unilateral veto powers. Article 9 of the ECOWAS charter which deals with decision making States:

"Unless otherwise provided in this Treaty or in a Protocol decisions of the Authority shall be adopted, depending on the subject matter under consideration by unanimity, consensus or, by a two-thirds majority of the Member States"

Biafra will need only two-thirds of the vote to join ECOWAS. Besides Nigeria, I don't think there will be any other country opposed to Biafra joining. Nigeria can opt out of ECOWAS a if not happy. You mentioned the Scottish referendum. Isn't it Ironic that Britain that created Nigeria gave one of its constituent parts a referendum last year, but when Biafrans ask for a referendum as a peaceful way to resolve the Biafran issue, you Nigerians will start shouting

If you look at the top of the Nigerian passport, you will see "ECOWAS" embossed on it. What this means is that any of the 15 member nation in the ECOWAS sub-region can travel, live and work in each other's countries, including Nigeria, without the need for visa or work permit. Biafra will apply to join ECOWAS and that application is likely to be accepted since Biafra is in West Africa and used to be a member under Nigeria. When Biafra joins ECOWAS, they will be free to travel to any part of Nigeria, live and work without any work permit unless Nigeria pulls out of ECOWAS.
