PoliticsObama To Meet Buhari, Shuns Philippines President by sayyid(op): 9:22am On Sep 18, 2016
United States President, Barack Obama, will meet President Muhammadu Buhari on the sidelines of the annual United Nations General Assembly gathering this week.
Obama will discuss with Buhari on US support for security and economic challenges in the country, as well the government’s efforts to defeat Boko Haram.
Nigeria and the US have pending agreement over the sale of US military equipment, especially attack helicopters to fight the insurgents.
White House Deputy National Security Adviser, Ben Rhodes, added that Obama would hold separate sessions with Iraqi Prime Minister, Haider Al-Abadi; and Colombian President, Juan Manuel Santos.
Rhodes, however, said that Obama will not meet Philippines President, Rodrigo Duterte, who recently insulted the US President.
The White House cancelled a meeting with Duterte during Obama’s recent trip to Laos for a regional summit after Duterte insulted him.
Duterte, who also slammed the UN and threatened to quit the world body after it criticised killings in its war on drugs, has not been scheduled to attend the General Assembly meeting.
Duterte turned down a meeting with UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, at the Laos summit.
Meanwhile, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Mr Femi Adesina, said in a statement that Buhari would deliver Nigeria’s statement at the opening of the general debate of the Assembly on “The Sustainable Development Goals: A Universal Push to Transform Our World.”
Adesina stated that the President would also attend a high-level summit to be hosted by the UN, on “large movements of refugees and migrants.”
He said, “The summit, which is the first of its kind, is expected to come up with a blueprint for a better international response to enhance the protection of migrants and refugees.’’

Foreign AffairsHillary Clinton Started The ‘birther Movement’ – Trump by sayyid(op): 9:21am On Sep 17, 2016
After years of fuelling conspiracy theories, Republican White House nominee Donald Trump admitted Friday that President Barack Obama is an American as he tried to neutralise damaging charges of racism.
But he also stepped up attacks against his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, accusing her of initiating the doubts about Obama and later raising the spectre of violence against her again.
In a much-hyped televised event, Trump gave a lengthy plug for his new Washington hotel before acknowledging that “President Barack Obama was born in the United States, period.”
The mogul-turned-politico pointedly did not apologise, nor did he walk back similarly baseless claims that Obama – whose father was a Kenyan Muslim – founded the violent Islamic State group.
Instead, he tried to pin blame for “birtherism” on his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, whom he accused, without evidence, of starting the movement that questions Obama’s nationality and right to be president.
“Her campaign of 2008 started the birther controversy. I finished it. I finished it. You know what I mean,” Trump said.
The celebrity TV star has questioned Obama’s US citizenship — a legal prerequisite for becoming president — since at least 2011.
The White House has long viewed Trump’s claims as a racist attempt to delegitimise the president.
The charges also served to launch Trump’s political career, propelling him onto the national stage and winning him fans on the far right.
But five years on, now in a tight presidential election race, Trump’s position has become a liability, repulsing black, Hispanic and moderate voters whose support he needs to win the Oval Office.
The controversy reignited Thursday when Trump again demurred on Obama’s citizenship, forcing his campaign into damage control.
– Threat of violence –
Trump’s Democratic rival Hillary Clinton jumped on the statement as more evidence that Trump is unfit to be president.
“For five years, he has led the birther movement to delegitimise our first black president,” she said. “His campaign was founded on this outrageous lie. There is no erasing it in history.”
“He’s feeding into the worst impulses, the bigotry and bias that lurks in our country,” she added.
Trump went on the attack again later in the day at a Miami rally, where he entered as the epic theme from the musical “Les Miserables” rang out, a reference to Clinton’s recent remarks in which she called “half” of Trump backers “deplorable.”
At the Florida event the bombastic billionaire suggested Clinton’s Secret Service guards voluntarily disarm and “see what happens to her.”
Members of Clinton’s government-appointed guard detail should abandon their weapons because she wants to “destroy your Second Amendment,” he said, referring to the US Constitution’s clause that enshrines the rights of Americans to bear arms.
“I think that her bodyguards should drop all weapons,” the real estate billionaire told a cheering rally. “Take their guns away. She doesn’t want guns. Take them. Let’s see what happens to her… It will be very dangerous.”
Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook condemned Trump’s remarks, saying they “should be out of bounds for a presidential candidate.”
CNN and other major TV stations did not broadcast Trump’s rally as they often do, suggesting the US media is heeding widespread criticism that it devotes too much attention to the Republican candidate.
– ‘Bigotry and bias’ –
First Lady Michelle Obama also criticised Trump during her 2016 campaign debut Friday, saying the choice for voters is “excruciatingly clear” between Clinton and a candidate who “traffics in prejudice, fear and lies.”
She said her husband had answered slanders through legislative achievements and “by going high when they go low,” as she encouraged supporters to go to the polls.
The latest opinion surveys indicate a tight race, although Clinton retains a notable lead in vital battleground states.
Asked in the Oval Office about the renewed birther controversy Friday, President Obama gave the question short shrift, making a dig at the US media and its obsessive coverage of Trump.
“I am shocked that a question like that would come up at a time when we have so many other things to do,” he said, before adding: “Well, I am not that shocked.”
“I was pretty confident about where I was born. My hope would be that the presidential election reflects more serious issues than that.”
Obama produced his birth certificate in 2011 — showing he was born at the Kapiolani Medical Center in Hawaii on August 4, 1961 — to put an end to the allegations.
Appearing at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shortly after, he publicly ridiculed Trump, who was in the audience.
“No one is prouder to put this birth certificate matter to rest than The Donald,” Obama said.
“And that’s because he can finally get back to focusing on the issues that matter, like, did we fake the moon landing? What really happened in Roswell? And where are Biggie and Tupac?

what i will just say is that if you believe eating it is bad or a sin that's your own believe we don't have to say some sort of rubbish about someone's religion. and for those of you saying they call the names of idol's on it don't you eat suya? most of the killed cows You use your money to buy in the market do you know whether it's a Muslim or a Christian that kills it? talk less of knowing what they mention on it before slaughtering it. the meat you eat in canteen do you know who kills it.
we don't need to start calling ourselves names because of this kind of issue. You shouldn't say because you believe in something and because of that you are the only one that is on the right path.
May God guide us all to the right path

PoliticsPDP Bombs Buhari, Kemi Adeosun Again Over Recession by sayyid(op): 1:59pm On Sep 02, 2016
– PDP has attacked the President Muhammadu Buhari administration and the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun over claims that it will focus on two policies to remove Nigeria from recession
– PDP said it believes a recession is not reversed by diversification
– The party reiterate that this government is out of depth and is incapable of reversing the economic recession into which they have plunged our nation
Can President Buhari solve Nigeria’s economic problems?
Nigeria’s opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has attacked the President Muhammadu Buhari administration and the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun over claims that it will focus on two policies to remove Nigeria from recession – fiscal discipline & diversification.
PDP said it believes a recession is not reversed by diversification.
“A recession is reversed by implementing a stimulus package designed to cut taxes, reduce the cost of doing business & boost spending on infrastructure & other critical sectors of the economy,” the party said in a statement signed by Deji Adeyanju, its New media director.
The party added that; “Available data shows that the Buhari administration has spent a meagre 19% of the allocation for CAPEX in #Budget2016. This sort of spending will not make any sort of impact on the economy.
“Assuming but not conceding that Mrs Adeosun is right, the challenge is the past 15 months show that despite the glib talk the Buhari administration is doing neither.
“For instance, despite claims of weeding out ghost workers from the payroll & reducing the civil service wage bill, Nigeria’s wage bill increased from N1.65tr in 2014 to N1.83tr and N1.71tr in 2015 & 2016 respectively.”
“These figures represent a combined total increase of N240bn from the wage bill in 2014.
“Two days ago, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) released its economic report for Q2 2016 which showed that the FG incurred a N1.09tr deficit for the quarter. This deficit was 96% higher than theN555.49b allowed.
“Total expenditure for this period stood at N1.76 trillion, surpassing the provisional quarterly budget estimate by 12.8%, representing a 58.1% increase of the Q1 expenditure.
“These figures show an abject lack of fiscal discipline in the management of the Nation’s finances by the Buhari administration,”
the party said.
PDP said the diversification claim by the Buhari government is absent as the GDP figures released by the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed that the Buhari administration is doing significant harm to non-oil sectors of the economy.
“Non oil GDP contracted by -0.38% in Q2 2016 from -0.18% in Q1 2016 and 3.46% in Q2 2015. Furthermore, CBN figures show that non-oil export fell by 43.2% to $576.97m in Q2 2016. As the data shows, even sectors that experienced growth in Q2 have slowed considerably compared to Q1 2016 & Q2 2015.
“As these figures show, the Buhari administration is just paying lip service to the issue of diversification & is in fact worsening the non-oil sectors of the economy.
These figures also show that Mrs. Adeosun’s comments about fiscal discipline & diversification are empty rhetoric.
PDP reiterate that this government is out of depth and is incapable of reversing the economic recession into which they have plunged our nation.
Recall that PDP had described the comment by the minister of finance, Kemi Adeosun as highly intensive and out of line.
In a statement made available to our reporter, PDP said Contrary to her belief, “recession” is not just a word, It’s a horrible reality for millions of Nigerians who face increasing difficulty in putting food on the table & meeting basic everyday financial obligations.
